Plateia Los Angeles Reviews
Came for pre-graduation meal. It was an awkward time - 3:30pm. We had the lounge menu. Decent selection of meals (salad, hamburgers, pizzas) and good selection of drinks and cocktails. Attentive service. If you can, sit on the patio when the weather is nice. We sat indoors, and it was quiet and good for conversation. Made the reservation in advance, but there were open indoor tables when we arrived. Located on the campus of UCLA, across from Ackerman Union.
I have been coming to Plateia for almost 3 years now, I love their food. The ambience is great so is the service, Celestino and Dalia have been my/our server for a number of times - great shout out to him! For the longest time my favorite has been the Harissa Lamb Pita with Reggiano fries - 5 star each time. But today I tried the local fish sandwich with rockfish, mind blown! Fyi, thats how our plates look after we're done ... EVERYTIME We walk across campus once every few weeks to grab a quick lunch here, the staff are super accommodating and nice.
Fantastic restaurant. The food and drink are all excellent. The service is super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend if you are visiting UCLA. However, make sure you reserve a table in advance. It is very popular, and well justified. By the way, they do not accept tips.
The wife had something to do up near UCLA so she invited me to lunch at Plateia in the Luskin Conference Center. We had tried to get in for lunch previously but there was always something going on or the restaurant was closed for one reason or another. This time, however, seeing as how it was summer vacation for UCLA, we were able to get a reservation easily. The Luskin Center is at the northernmost point of Westwood Boulevard. To park, you have to go in right in front of the center and down the ramp. They do not validate but it is an expensive restaurant in any case so the parking charge is just another drop in the bucket. The restaurant is quite pleasant. Floor-to-ceiling windows that open to some tables on the patio. Our day there was sunny but a little too warm to sit in the sun. Although we originally requested a table on the patio, all the tables with umbrellas were taken and we felt it would be too warm to sit and enjoy our meal. We requested a table inside and got one right next to a door that was open. It was a good choice. The wife ordered a chicken sandwich with a side salad and I had a pizza margherita. Sorry, we were too hungry to take pictures at the beginning of the meal but we did get to that before we left. The pizza was great. The crust was crispy but not dry and the pizza had just the right amount of tomato sauce and cheese. I was very pleased with it. The wife's sandwich was also very good, she claimed, and it looked good, too. However, if you can call this a complaint, the meal was too big. If you've got an appetite, this place is great. For us, we had lunch tomorrow, also. The service was excellent. The servers and other staff attend UCLA in their hospitality track. I guess there is nothing better for learning than doing. These people did very well, we were extremely satisfied. When we got the check, we were a bit perplexed. The credit card slip matched the original check but there was no place to add a tip. Then my wife started reading a bit more about the restaurant and found out that it is a "no tipping" environment. My wife and I have lived in Europe, so we were both used to the no-tipping rule but it is quite scarce in the USA. So we signed the slip, took the boxed food with us and enjoyed the stroll back to the car. Bottom line: a little bit pricier than your standard lunch but the service was good and the no-tipping rule was a nice surprise. In today's world, I like this way of doing business better than underpaying the staff and hoping that the customers will make up the difference. Just as in Europe, pay them a living wage and most will provide good service. Also, we would have no qualms about going back, providing we can get a reservation.
I would say this is the BEST dining place during pandemic. They really have thought through about how to keep customers and their staff safe. For example, one person is deligated to serve only and the other picks up used items so things don't cross contaminate. Their protocols to serve food and water, and the thoughtful ways to pay bill and order food made me feel really safe. Highly recommend!!! Kids friendly. Call ahead to make reservation.
The outdoors is absolutely a beautiful experience. Olive tree shades, fountain sounds, herbal scent. The food was amazing, I had the octopus and prawn linguini.
The food and the atmosphere is surprisingly good! We will definitely come back again ! I found a lot people complaining about their service, but I think it’s great! The waiter and waitress are are very friendly and helpful!
Situated in the heart of UCLA in their conference center is Plateia. I was genuinely surprised with this place as the food was delicious (and reasonably priced), service was quick and the hotel/restaurant itself was very nice. We ordered the avocado chicken sandwich and the margherita pizza which I highly recommend.
Dined twice here, once Lunch, once Breakfast, good experiences with both. Plateia encapsulates that Californian Mediterranian food experience. Extremely fresh food and ingredients, sophisticated and leave you feeling a little brainy. Sure, the prices are a tad upscale, however, they are in line with the area and the ambiance. Plus there is no need to tip as it is a no-tip establishment. The building Plateia is housed in is also a conference center. Keep that in mind, particularly around events or peak academic times, and consider a reservation. Both times I dined was walk-in though. Bread is free for lunch but toast is not free during breakfast. The toast came with two little spreads, one bitter orange marmalade, one grape jelly. Meal will range between $15-20 for breakfast, $20-31 for lunch and $30-45 for dinner. These ranges include a drink and no more. There are, of course, more expensive options if you choose to splurge.
While visiting colleges in SoCal with my daughter, we made the Luskin our home base for a week. We ate at the Plateia for breakfast and dinner everyday while we were there. Originally, this wasn't our plan as we hoped to explore the various restaurants around Westwood. But the food was so outstanding and the staff so friendly and helpful, that we just decided to eat there everyday. Did I mention the staff? Wow, they were so incredibly friendly that my daughter was almost in tears on our last day. A special shoutout to Maria S. A very special lady with a bigger than life smile and down to earth attitude. Others including Ariel, Betty and Adrienne were also wonderful. It's true that the staff is not allowed to accept tips, but that in no way prevents them from providing outstanding service. Favorite entrees included The Burger (which I ate everyday while there), their various pizzas, Reggiano fries, gelatos and their yummy tiramisu. I (we) highly recommend this wonderful gem if you are looking for great meal with a wonderful atmosphere and a terrific staff.

This was the best experience I have ever had. If I was living around here and not for travel I would eat here everyday. From the hostess to the dishwashers the experience was fantastic. The dishes were so clean I could see my reflection in them, and the people god the people so nice. Never seen so much effort in the quality of niceness/dishes. Don't get me started on the food it was to good to not eat, so good you could lick that plate clean. Everyone that work there NEEDS a raise. Thank you for the experience and the time 100000/10 I would recommend

Great lunch visit, it was a bit hot but the servers brought in umbrellas near the end of our meal for a great concluding meal surprise to cool us off. Food was GREAT,I got the chicken piccatta, was superb with yummy tomato risotto. Solid A all around! A bit loud, but I admit Im picky about noise most others probably would find no issue in full disclosure.
3.5 but I’m rounding up because the atmosphere outside is really nice and you don’t have to tip. We have tried many dishes most of them are pretty good but not exceptional. You don’t have to go out of your way to visit but if you are around UCLA it’s definitely a good spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Pretty solid restaurant located in the UCLA conference center/hotel. I ate here several times during my stay at the UCLA hotel. Most of my meals were really good but some were just okay (my steak was very over cooked). The service was hit or miss especially if you got table but all the bartenders were fantastic!
Very pleasant environment. Staff are friendly. Delicious pizza, well-made cocktails. I ordered Verdura Pizza and the Barcelona drink and I loved both of them. This is a gratuity free restaurant.

Excellent ambience. Good food but few vegetarian choices that are healthy (low carb, high protein) - rather surprising for a place linked to UCLA Health and academic excellence. Service a bit slow.

Update on July 19: had a good breakfast here. I forgot I came here before, but the breakfast is good! The food quality was ok. If it is just me want to find a place to eat, I may not choose here.
nice atmosphere! and the risotto was fine, nothing special, but the service is little off and it seems a bit unprofessional or untrained…. but not a bad place to come to!

I found the dinner menu very limited. We ordered the autumn salad and a margherita pizza. The salad was good but the pizza was just a cheese pizza with some basil pieces—no mozzarella or tomato slices. Very disappointing!

The food, what tiny bit you receive, is tasty, albeit they get almost every order wrong. There is no tipping so service is terrible; there is absolutely NO incentive for staff to seat you, hustle, remember that you've asked for coffee 4 times ... they'll tell you they're full in the middle of the day when there are 4 people in the restaurant "we don't have enough staff" The bar closes @ 9:30, their drinks are expensive, and mostly ice .. The atmosphere is excellent; beautiful garden to sit in and there's no other food around so when you're at the hotel .. your stuck. Update: they served me pink eggs, almost no filling to the omelette, they ran out of salt!!

The food is mid and very overpriced. The staff are nice and atmosphere is pleasant. Parking is also a hassle. If the food were better I would return.
