I love Caprock Cafe. It's worth it just for the queso. Pro tip: dip your twisted taters in the queso. The chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were as awesome as ever. Caprock is a Lubbock staple. The waitstaff is super friendly and knowledgeable. It's the place to be for a hungover Saturday afternoon before you take on another Lubbock day!

Yep, the highest review done in Lubbock to date! Great spot! Perfect queso with just the right amount of heat and side salad arrived with blue cheese crumbles atop the dressing, HEAVEN! The Queso burger, just might be the best burger this reviewer has tasted! Perfectly cooked, juicy, messy and DELICIOUS, with a side of tasty onion rings. Mashed potatoes were spot on and chicken fried steak, not a bad bet. Amanda was exactly what one would want in a server in this 'come as you are' establishment, genuine, informative and seasoned! If I lived in Lubbock, I imagine this would be my go to place! ABSOLUTELY, go to Caprock Cafe! You can thank me later!!!

Fun atmosphere and good food. This is not the place to go if you want a quiet dinner or to have a calm discussion while eating. But it would be great for a larger group or to watch sports. We went on a Wednesday night, so I'd assume weekends are even louder. The menu is massive, and to be honest, it was hard just picking one item to eat. I had the green chili chicken fried steak, and it was fantastic. It was tender and had a great flavor. My wife had the green chili enchiladas and said they were good, but not as good as an authentic Mexican food restaurant. The drink menu is expansive as well, with several standards and a few different concoctions. I plan on stopping in again next time I'm out this way for work.

Still the same great place that it was back during undergrad over 20 years ago. There are a lot of good reasons it’s still around while a lot of other places have shut down. Recommend the queso burger and fries, plus a schooner of Shiner to wash it down.

Everything was great. The food was delicious, the staff was very nice, our waitress was sweet, attentive and just pleasant. We sat outside and it was a very unique seating area, very inviting and something different. We will definitely be back.

The service was great here and the food was just as good. You definitely get a large portion and everything came out fresh and delicious. The appetizers are huge so make sure you come with an empty stomach. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and it was tasty.

Went in on a whim and had a great experience!! Drinks were cold and served as well as refilled quickly. Waitress had several suggestions both food and drinks… I told her to “just bring me something good” and man did she!! The green chili chicken sandwich!! Absolutely amazing!! Good service and amazing food. Everything from chicken wings to everything nachos to Ribeye tips and broccoli in a protein bowl has been worth ordering again. The burgers are great and Do NOT sleep on the jalapeño sourdough buns. All around great local place.

Enjoyed the cold beer and the low carb power bowl. The patio was really nice, even at 6pm.

Stopped in for a late lunch. We ordered the supreme Texas sized nachos and there was more than plenty for 2 to share. What a fun and funky pub in Lubbock., we were highly impressed and satisfied on our overnight pass through town heading back to VA. An AWESOME selection of food, and their drafts are served ice cold in schooner goblets...YASSSS! There are a lot of restaurants in Lubbock that could be good, but are not. Mainly because the girls waiting on you act like you owe them something. That's not Caprock Cafe. The girls in this place look you in the eye when they're talking to you. They know how to smile at the man while taking his order. They work their butts off to make sure your eating experience is stellar! And the food's pretty good too. Thank God somebody's got it right. I won't eat anywhere else!

Well my daughter recommended this. Her boyfriend had graduated last Saturday and we were all hungry and she chose cat Rock, one of her favorite places. She recommended it highly. There were 12 of us. They seen her just immediately served us immediately and did not miss a beat. It was very warm and nice to be there with my family, watching television, watching all of their friends graduate and enjoying some of their local Hangouts with them. Nice and fun. Clean area and get to watch some college basketball as well. All around good time and helpful and honest to people

We had lots of down and dirty with a large party for a graduation meal! The food took a while, but we were a big party, and our drinks were kept full. The down and dirty mozzarella sticks and the queso were highlights of the meal. The down and dirty chicken tenders were good but the breading was a bit much for me. I did have a side salad which was a nice size portion and a fresh addition to a mostly fried food selection. It’s a fav of our recent college grads and some place we’ll look forward to visiting in the future.

If you are looking at this review before coming here, then this is the place to definitely try when staying away from the typical chain restaurant. The staff and the manager were so welcoming and friendly. The whole place is eye-catching as well as perfectly arranged. We sat on the outside entrance because of the beautiful day outside, and the atmosphere was so inviting, they played great music fit for the place. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries, and my wife had the green chile cheese burger with fries. I ordered the prime rib rare, and it came medium, but believe me, the taste of the sandwich was extraordinary perfectly tasty. Add a couple of drops of Tabasco, which made it so irresistibly inviting, so you may opt in to add an extra bit of swiss cheese it would just bring out that busting flavor out. The waffle fries were perfectly cooked, where they were crisp on the outside and so tasty and tender on the inside. My wife's burger was perfect with its sweet, tasting, grilled bun, green chile, and to top it off extra red onion slices a great burger. Our server, Micah, was superbly proficient, professional, friendly, and provided the best of service. We will definitely bring friends and family to this place.

The music was so loud that you had to almost yell to be understood. I gave my order twice and the waitress still got it wrong. I ordered a hickory burger with cheese and got a Double 2/3 cheeseburger. When I told her what was wrong she offered to bring son hickory sauce. I noticed, after I got home, that I was charged extra for the sauce.

There's always something good to eat at Caprock Cafe! I like to try something new nearly every time we go - my husband...not so much. BUT he actually did this time (shocker, I know! 😅). He got the Ribeye Steak Sandwich and ended up eating only about half the bread; he said the steak pieces were "really dadgum good!", which is high praise coming from a man who rarely ever gives compliments. So kudos to the chef! Also, this was the first time we are at this location - we usually go to the one on 82nd. But this original location is even bigger w/a way bigger patio/terrace area and has some really awesome decor (especially the cook Chuck Wagon out front). It's no wonder they have a sign on there telling people "DO NOT CLIMB ON" because, let me tell u...even as a 59 yr old grandma, it was hard not to! So I imagine it's nigh on impossible when there's a rowdy group of gals at the Bachelorette Party drunk on the good Margaritas there!!

Really fun place and I'm not sure many people will agree with me on this one because they were packed and the patrons never stood rolling in. The queso and salsa we a cut above. But everything else was ho-hum. The sides and patties leaves greatly to prepackaged/reheated dishes. Not much in the way of flavor. Decently priced. Staff was friendly but a little distracted. Maybe just too busy. Atmosphere was fun and interesting.

First visit here, it's what I expected it to be! Sports bar and grill! Food was delicious, very reasonable prices, and quick service! Our waitress was great!! When I went it was fairly empty, but there was still a dirty napkin on my seat. That was the only bad thing about the place. It had a nice ambiance, where they played a mix of rock and country music over their speakers. The server was prompt and cheerful, and did their job well while giving me plenty of time and space to enjoy my food. The burger I ordered was juicy and the produce was fresh. The fries were the star, super crispy on the outside while still fluffy on the inside. I would definitely recommend you try this place.

The service by Kaden <sp> was great she was attentive and friendly but gave you have time to enjoy your meal. I had the Green Chili Chicken Fried Steak. The green chili sauce was excellent. The steak appeared to be was prebreaded frozen cutlet. IT was still very good because of the green chili, a combination I would not have thought of but worked well. The pinto beans we good, the potatoes and gravy were excellent, just the right amount of seasoning to smashed (not mashed) potatoes with just enough chunkiness and skin left on to add additional flavor. The atmosphere was spot on, I sat near the bar and it was full but not too noisy. Meal was 4 stars and experience was 5 stars overall about 4.5 stars. Recommendations: If they were to change to a hand breaded tenderized cutlet and adjust their seasoning for the beans (they had jalapeno and bacon in them but the seasoning overpowered their flavor), this meal and experience would be 5 stars.

Update: The burgers 🍔 have become the size of a McDonald's $1 burger. The bun is the same size, but the patty .... ---------------------- Friendly service and good food.

Just driving through Lubbock on our way back to Colorado and found this Cafe. The food was good and plentiful but the best part of the evening was the service. It was a bit chilly under the fans so the hostess and our server very happily moved us to another table. We ordered the Supreme nachos and the Works Grilled Chicken sandwich, which was excellent! Fun atmosphere and will have to come back some time as there were many things on the menu we'd like to try!

Professional and very attentive bartenders. Service was fast. Can be busy at times, but servers don't make you feel that you are rushed to "eat & go". Friendly all around atmosphere.

The food was great. I had the Philly cheese quesadilla, and the wife had grilled chicken. Lindie, our waitress, was super sweet and checked on us numerous times. We sat out in what I would call an Atrium-ish. There are trees in there, and it's a really cool and comfortable atmosphere. I fully recommend you check this place out for yourself. I will be back to try more menu items. P.s. I really liked that flag it was right behind our table.

We visited on a Sunday morning about 11 am - I had a craving for chicken fried steak. Not busy so the music was a little loud, but by the time we left, we hardly noticed it because it was getting pretty busy. Started with chips and salsa/queso - just can't go wrong with that. Chicken fried steak was fork tender, didn't need the knife to cut through it. Waitress was very personable and efficient! Bonus points for refilling my water glass frequently! Great place for burgers and beer.

Caprock Cafe has a cool country sports bar atmosphere with a lot of menu options. The Pecos Queso was really good and had a kick to it, I loved the chilies in it. The garlic broccoli was also very good and flavorful. The meats had good flavor, although I anticipated a little more chicken in the chicken sandwich. It's definitely a place I'd return to. Restaurant is okay. As a bar, it's probably better, but we were there to eat. Plenty of TVs for watching sports. Fun atmosphere. Staff is great. Service was excellent. Queso was good. My only complaint, and it's a big one that will keep us from returning, is the food. I'm sure there are things they do well. It's not fair to paint the entire menu the color of simply what we ordered, but based on what we ate, I wouldn't want to spend what they charge to try other items. I had chicken strips with fries. Simple, right? $16. Airport pricing. The food? The chicken strips were 100% the exact same ones you get at Dairy Queen for $8. I got 3 strips (again, for $16) and fries that were obviously not fresh cut. Sysco freezer fries. They were edible, but for $16 ... My son's chicken sandwich looked like a piece of meat that had been through a hydraulic press (they obviously used cook weights to speed up prep time), and was just a piece of unseasoned chicken on bread. Again, $16. If the prices were $10 - $12 for that quality of food, I'd have peace with that, but what they charge is excessive for the food we were served. 5 of us cost $120+ for dinner, including drinks and tip, and all my wife got was a soup and salad. Everything about our experience for dinner was good, except the food for what we paid. They either need to raise the bar on the food being served, or lower the price. The balance is way off. It costs us less to eat better food at Chili's. 11/26/25 Update: Interesting response from the restaurant below. I appreciate their engagement but have to admit it seems like they missed my point. TVs and sound systems are great, but you're a restaurant. Good food is what people want. You insurance challenges stemming from alcohol sales matter, if I'm there to drink, which we didn't. The ding I gave was for the food ... and only the food. The TV, sound system, bar costs, etc. are irrelevant to that critique. I came for the food, and it was not good. If your food is bad, why would I care about your TV or stereo?

My wife had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and it was good as always. I ordered the ribeye(steak of the day at market price which she said was $22.99). She brought me chicken fried steak with gravy and French fries and Texas toast. I had to tell her it was wrong and she said she grabbed the wrong plate. 15 minutes later she came back with the ribeye(thin cut, not a regular ribeye that has a market price of $14.99/lb) and the same fries and toast that were on the previous plate(you can see the bit of gravy on the fry). The steak was fresh, the fries were fresh from the previous plate. Very disappointed with this visit. They are usually great in all aspects. We will be back, but it won’t be for a while.

Fine enough place if you just want to drink. The food was sub par, almost inedible. Bison burger was chewy. No coffee. The steak sandwich was tough. Appetizers were decent. Service was good, but overall this place is a miss.

Waited 10 minutes. No greeting, no service. Waitress had ONE table she was serving. She said sorry for when she bumped into me as I was leaving.

Service is not good. Our glasses were empty and when we asked a waitress for our waitress, she said that she would find out - when she returned she said that our waitress was on the phone and would be with us when she was off. Very poor service. However, the drinks are good. Definitely try the strawberry daiquiri.

Well i guess the only plus was it was fast. Based on the reviews we decided to try it. I can only say was for the amount we payed and the quality of food it was pretty awful. Everything seemed old and microwaved. I figured it would at least be fresh for the price. When I arrived it wasn't busy but everyone was in the back. Had to flag a random waitress down. Worst part is it instantly made my wife sick.

Service is terrible completely and utterly terrible. Especially when they are slow do not go to this restaurant after a lunch rush you will not be served appropriately. Multiple instances of this happening. Usually get back to work from lunch late so to this. However today was the last straw literally saw my waitress go sit down and start a full on conversation while I’m waiting to place an order. I got up went to the bar asked to pay for my drink a Dr Pepper I took 3 drinks from and left. Not the first time either. Always something wrong at the 34th location. Sad cause the food is really good. Will not be back.

Third worst restaurant experience I’ve had. If I could, I would rate it a negative five. The nachos were the worst I’ve ever had and that’s saying something. Stale chips, the cheese was the prepackaged shredded kind and wasn’t fully melted, giving it a gritty taste, the chicken was flavorless and felt nothing like chicken, the ground beef was too salty and because of how dim the atmosphere was I couldn’t read that the nachos came with jalapeños unless you ask to leave them out. Two family members got the down and dirty chicken strips and relayed they were severely overcooked, lacked flavor and were almost impossible to eat, having a “leather-like consistency”. There was a shrimp in the appetizer sampler, and we were lucky no one was allergic as it blended in with the fried jalapeños and was a nasty surprise. The bathroom smelled horrible and was not the tidiest, and despite there being plenty of tables inside, we were seated outside. Despite our server being wonderful, I will never be eating at a Cap Rock Cafe again and will recommend my friends and family avoid them as well. (We went at about 7pm on a Wednesday, I can’t imagine how bad it gets on a weekend.)

I had a deeply disappointing experience at Cap Rock Café. The management was utterly unprofessional, publicly berating a staff member in front of the entire restaurant, which created an uncomfortable and awkward atmosphere for everyone. The drinks were noticeably watered down, barely resembling what we ordered. The food was equally disappointing—excessively greasy and poorly prepared, leaving us feeling unwell. Overall, the lack of professionalism, subpar drinks, and low-quality food made this a place I’d strongly recommend avoiding.

Went here... it's all hype and paid social media advertising. It's cafeteria style food. Assemble your own burgers with sysco packets and poor veggies to top it. CoVID season, so limited workers. Slow service to be expected. More rich people sticking it to everyday workers
