We went for the summer restaurant week. You get a cold and a hot appetizer, assortment of sushi and a dessert. We opted for the soft shell crab and shabu shabu ramen, both were delicious and served hot out of the kitchen. Sushi is top quality and decadent of course. Hojicha pudding is uniquely toasty and silky. Not all RW deals are worth going, but I’d recommend the selection at sushi taro for the quality and the value of the food.

The wagyu hot pot was incredible — tender, rich, and the broth just made everything come together perfectly. But the sashimi stole the show for me. Freshest fish I’ve had in a long time, every bite was just clean and perfect. Overall a fantastic meal, Sushi Taro never disappoints.

2026年 Osechi bento review: Excellent traditional bento, beautifully prepared with high quality ingredients. 100% worth the price. You can tell a lot of time and effort was spent preparing this bento. I was very very impressed. I will be ordering this every year. どもありがとうございます!

My husband and I have been coming here since 2022 and we have always had 100/10 service and amazing food. Every time we come we are always amazed at all the flavors. The service is so incredibly respectful, they give you amazing recommendations while being observant but not overbearing (which can be a hard line to toe). Our server most recently was Raven and she suggested some amazing sakes, as well as some sushi we wouldn't normally have tried. The hojicha creme brulee and burnt mochi cheese cake were heavenly -- some of the best dessert we have ever had. This is definitely pricey, but we love coming for any special occasion.

Delicious kyoto-style sushi & Japanese food. The nigiri selection was superb, and the quality of fish (both fresh and marinated) is absolutely top notch. We had a chefs tasting menu, and it was an exciting adventure in food, but everything was delicious!

The Kaiseki is without a doubt THE BEST AND MOST bang for your buck! $135/pp and you get a ton of sushi, noodles, lobster croquette! The staff super professional and the flavors authentic. If you are in the DMV area and you need a special date night spot? Pick Sushi Taro, you will not be disappointed.

Had a wonderful dining experience. Staff was knowledgeable and full of suggestions. The toro melts in your mouth. Tender pork belly. Amazing udon and tempura. Great sake and beer selections. Can’t recommend more highly.

Sushi Taro is better than many of the overrated sushi restaurants in D.C. It resembles a traditional Japanese restaurant and offers a fresh, diverse selection of fish imported from Japan. The service was also top-notch. Highly recommended!

Loved this place and the food! It looks super lowkey from the outside, but the simplicity is what makes it so great. I really enjoyed the meal—absolutely delicious. The service was excellent too. Thanks so much for the recommendation! Highly recommend.

Just visited during DC Restaurant Week 2025 and tried the restaurant week menu. It was well worth the price. In short, will definitely return! The appetizer was just okay. The next dishes my friend and I tried were the pork belly and beef sukiyaki pot. They met our expectation but didn’t blow our mind. The pork belly was soft and a bit sweet. The sukiyaki was flavourful with a lot of beef, very good portion. The broth is great though a bit salty. The star was the main dish with 7 pieces of sashimi and half a roll, amazing quality. Generous portion and selection. All pieces were thick cut and very fresh, the rice was of high quality. The ebi and yellowtail were my favorite, light and sweet. The toro was fatty. Even the roll was carefully made. We didn’t expect to be full but was surprised. The hojicha pudding is a signature and it exceeded our expectation. Melt in your mouth with a slight bitter caramel sauce at the end, the pairings were brilliant. The basque cheesecake was creamy and rich.

Awesome food and great service! We came for restaurant week and were stunned at the quality of service. It was an appropriate speed and the food came out fresh. The hot foods were hot, and the sushi was not overhandled. My favorite part of the meal was dessert. The ほうじ茶プリン was divine. Would highly recommend you check out for restaurant week or another omakase experience!

We enjoyed an excellent meal here last night. They have a diverse menu with options for a tasting menu, a la carte sashimi, sushi, small to large savory plates; quite the range. Service was very polished, very knowledgeable and helpful. The ambience was subdued, quiet and intimate. We started with a few small and medium plates we really enjoyed overall: tako karaage (pan fried octopus w/brussel sprouts & okonomi sauce) - superb blend of textures and flavors, from the crisp octopus, tender brussel sprouts, to creamy sauce. Delicious. ebi kurimu korokke (shrimp cream croquette) - our server recommended this one and it was heavenly, robust flavor without every comprising the flavor the shrimp. kuro buta kaku-ni (black pork belly/10hrs braised in sweetened soy) - this was interesting, tender pork belly in a very sweet broth. Not my favorite but good and glad I tried it. We then went onto the main part of the meal, we shared the Taro Sashimi for two. About a dozen types of fish, plus octopus, and clams beautifully presented on a long wooden board. My favorite was the Toro, it was like butter. We ordered another a la carte sashimi of the Toro, it was epic. They also have a large sake menu but basically a non-existent cocktail menu. Excellent restaurant, highly recommend you give it a try.

The service at Sushi Taro was excellent—attentive, professional, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was high quality and beautifully prepared, but the portion sizes felt a bit small for the price point. Overall, a great dining experience, especially for the service and quality, but I wish the servings were a little more generous.

My friends and I came here because of its Michelin Star status and overall we had a good time tasting every dish that we ordered. It was clear that all the dishes were curated very carefully to ensure that every bite was worth it. While I still thought the price was exuberant, the overall experience was good enough for me to recommend this establishment if one is looking for good sushi around the area with little to no budget limitations. The live soft-shell crab tempura looked like it was burnt since it looked so black, but it wasn't the case in reality. Every bite had very potent crab flavor which was pleasantly surprising, even if each small piece was really thin. The dish that had the cooked salmon and salmon roe had very tasty bites, because the salmon had just the right amount of crisp on the outside, good flavor inside, and the koshihikari rice itself was flavorful, too. The urchin sushi pieces had very potent flavor because urchin itself was like that, which testified its authenticity. Pretty much all the other pieces of nigiri, rolls, and sashimi were good, but the dishes that I mentioned were the big highlights. Since the rest of the pieces didn't leave as much impression on me, I think it's fair for me to give this establishment a 4 instead due to its exuberant price. They have various styles of dining, ranging from a la carte to their omakase experience, which my friends had tried before. While I am not an omakase person, I would encourage those that are okay with a fancy experience to give it a try, because the dishes when ordered a la carte were already more than decent.

Sushi Taro used to be considered one of the top Japanese restaurants in the city, but it is not surprising they no longer are on the Michelin guide in 2025. The table service was good, but the rest of the service was mediocre. The food itself does feel overpriced for the quality, only a few select items were notable. Really not a destination for sushi or sashimi. Nothing they are doing terribly wrong per se, just nothing to write home about.

Great menu, and a very calm zen-like interior decor. Love the big windows that overlook the leafy, late summer trees on the street. High quality seafood and sushi

I had the menu tasting, all good till it came the hot pot noodles, so off … shouldn’t be in there, doesn’t go along with the set, that’s why i give them 4 stars, can’t wait to try the omakase there, and hopefully none of that will happen in the omakase… it just kill it, period. Other than that everything was an adventure. Thank you for a good experience.

Sad to edit from 5 to 3 🌟.This year was totally a deception... the quality decreased (no care or thought given to the appetizer and main dish, very lackluster) and the portion is now smaller ( fish on sushi is thinner and the main dishes are so much smaller.) Normally, me and my husband come home very full with their Kaiseki, however this time after finished dinning here we were barely full. I wonder if they changed the chef or the owner. But with 400$ for 2pp is not worth to come back anymore. --------- (My experience at sushi Taro was alway exceptional. The sushi tasting menu was fresh, juicy and filling, impressed with sukiyaki. One of the best sushi restaurant in DC that I will recommend.)

Visited during restaurant week, this used to be one of our favorite Japanese restaurants and since there are more Japanese restaurants where I live, we don't come to DC as often. I have to say I am a bit disappointed with the sushi, I can probably get similar grade sushi at my nearby sushi restaurant. The presentation is underwhelming. I suppose is restaurant week, the affordable menu and so no need to put thoughts into the dish. There is just nothing that jumps out and wow us except for the hoji-cha pudding dessert. Silky smooth and the aroma of the hoji-cha was perfect. I did pairing and the dessert goes well with the green tea plum wine.

First time here, this is one of our seven restaurant week this year. I would put this at the bottom of the list. Wait time is long, food portions are little (I get it, sushi, supposed to be little, but why the long wait time). The table next to us waited about 30 min for their appetizer. Food quality was also poor and boring. The appetizer sashimi, the jelly sauce on the sashimi is way too salty, covers up any taste the sashimi had. Warm dish portion is laughable. For 6 tiny fried shrimp, size of thumbs, we waited 20min. Then, only 2 pieces of the sushi combo are tasty, the others taste like what you can find in a typical supermarket sushi box. The presentation was also not satisfying, 2 pieces' fish are damaged (see image). The desert was ok, but the presentation and the cheap plastic cup does not fit the high price per person of the restaurant. The chopsticks are also not reusable, it s the one-time wooden takeout chopsticks. I don't get the hype for this restaurant.
