Food Corner Madison Reviews
I have never uploaded a food photo before because I always thought people who took pictures of their food were a bit silly, but then again, I'd never had Union Corners Tavern's Corn Ribs before and they left me, well...inspired. It might have been the best appetizer I've had in years. Somehow they have quartered the cob lengthwise, added chili butter and lime crema topped with cotija, espelette, and micro greens, which had me wanting to recreate Meg Ryan's diner scene in When Harry Met Sally (I'll have what she's having!). Ask for extra wet wipes because it's wonderfully gooey. Paired with the G.O.A.T. grilled cheese--goat cheese, fig jam, and arugula on sourdough. the sandwich hit the perfect notes of sweet, bitter, creamy, and crunchy. My husband ordered the Chicken Shawarma wrap and raved about his entree too. Union Corners Tavern has a welcoming casual ambience, moderate prices, and free Skee Ball in the game room. We'll be back!
I love the location as it offers a lot of parking options and it is just a little off the beaten path. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server was patient, kind and wasn't afraid to give her opinion on the entrees. We didn't wait long for our meal, and not only did it look good, but it also tasted good. My daughter said it was the best burger she has ever had. (She's 26). We both got the house fries that came with it and to our surprise, they were delicious. Love the skins on the fries and the garlic aioli that came with them. We will definitely be back!
Great place for adults and kids. Corn ribs are a must-order item- so delicious and unique. Service was awesome. Kids enjoyed the game room with free ski-ball. Definitely a good place to go!
This is largely an undiscovered jem. Locally sourced food prepared well. Stopped in on a Saturday night and had an excellent meal. I ordered the BLT. Thick cut bacon on thick toasted bread with a spicy aioli sauce. Fries were also delicious. I'll come back and try some of the other options.
We ordered a reuben and a smash burger. Both sandwiches were very large and delicious. French fries seasoned and hot/fresh. Excellent service. Coffee was delicious! Variety of menu options to choose from. Will most definitely be going back again.
I called to see if they could make a reservation for dinner and the friendly person on the phone said normally they don’t but since it was Valentine’s day they would. I made a reservation for 2. Later that day we invited 2 friends to join us and again when I called to change our reservation they happily accommodated us. We arrived and were seated at a spacious booth. Our server Alexis was wonderful and helped us order cocktails and appetizers. The Dumpling Tacos were a delicious flavor bomb and the Roasted Brussel Sprouts were perfect. Each of our entrees exceeded expectations—2 of us had the duck leg served over risotto which was excellent, a scallop-stuffed whitefish (also great but the scallop was not very discernible), and a braised short rib that was probably the best I’ve ever had. The seasoning and care taken with each dish was perfect (not too much or lacking). We were all too full with smiles on our faces for dessert. The manager Brandon stopped by to check on us and was warm and friendly. I definitely want to return to try more of what is offered on their menu and it’s a great place to bring friends. Atmosphere is very casual decorated with rowing regalia, there is a bar with a TV to watch a game, and a separate game room with Skee-Ball, TV, and a few video games. The standout here is the food—locally sourced, fresh, a cooked with care.
This place is awesome! Super friendly, the burger was insane, ooh and the short rib was so good! Also I was able to crush my brother in some free skee-ball!
Best burger I've had in ages. Delicious drink and cheese curds. Great service. 10/10 recommend. Very happy this tavern is in our neighborhood now!
Incredible food and portion size, thank you for that! Kids had a great time, loved the Mac n Cheese and skee-ball. Cannot wait to return.
Pleasantly surprised! Went here for the first time on a whim. Had the charcuterie board and it was phenomenal! The BLT was loaded with bacon and the fries were perfectly cooked. Husband had the lobster roll and it looked like something from a 5 star restaurant. Finished it all off with some panna cotta for an amazing meal. Don’t sleep on this one.
Excellent, friendly service and incredible food! We ordered the BLT and smash burger and both items were delicious and huge. The BLT has a generous amount of super thick bacon and heirloom tomatoes. Honestly, it's probably the best BLT I've ever had. The cocktail we ordered was also very good and a reasonable price. Looking forward to coming back and trying more items!
We had a great experience! Very nice staff! Amazing brussel sprouts! My husband loved the cheese curds! We would highly recommend it!
We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. The staff made us feel welcome right away and this could quickly become a favorite neighborhood hangout. Chef Jake brings his creative flair to every dish we ordered tonight. Starters were the roasted Brussels sprouts with delicate roasted mushrooms and apple cider reduction. The creamy corn chowder was a standout. A blend of savory cheeses, tender corn and a touch of crisp garnish made a beautiful bowl of warmth on a wintery evening. Our huge sandwiches were beautifully presented as well as perfectly prepared. We felt we were eating at a fine restaurant yet felt comfortably at home in the bar setting. We can’t wait to return to experience more! Bravo UCT staff and chef.
What a nice surprise. The newly redesigned restaurant and bar turned out amazing. Service was top tier. Menu has something for everyone. Great tap beer selection and fun cocktail menu. They added a new game room with skee ball. The owner hopes to start brewing beer again. You should check it out if you haven't yet. If the train is not on, just ask. Fyi...you are supposed to back in to the parking spots.
Food was amazing! We got four sandwiches (BLT, Lobster, Chicken Shawarma, and Smashburger)- our favs were the lobster roll and the smashburger, SO juicy and lobster roll was perfect. Mara, our server, was lovely and very attentive. The bar itself is so cute with the lighting and the drinks were phenomenal (I recommend the fig bees knees). Will def be coming back!
The food was so incredibly delicious. I feel like the atmosphere doesn't align with the caliber of the food necessarily. But honestly I don't really care about that too much. Good food is good food.
We had an absolutely incredible dinner. From start to finish, everything was great. We started with the Spiced Old Fashioned, hands down one of the best I’ve had. The dumpling tacos and street corn were packed with flavor and delicious. For our mains, the lavender & black garlic chicken and braised short rib were both phenomenal. Tender, beautifully seasoned, and clearly made with a lot of care. We finished with the sweet corn ice cream, which was the perfect ending to a flawless meal. What really put the night over the top was the service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Even the chef made a point to check in and ensure everything was perfect, which you don’t see often. Union Corners Tavern delivered a true 10/10 experience. We’ll absolutely be coming back!
This is quickly becoming a go-to spot for me. I've had the reuben and chicken shawarma wrap, and both have had great flavors with good portion sizes for the price. The staff are responsive, quick, and service is friendly. All that along with free skee-ball and plenty of parking make it a must-try spot!
Every single thing I had was amazing. The dumpling tacos got better and better. The lobster roll was fresh tasting. The broccolini had that perfect char taste. The New York sour coctail was so good I had to grab two of them. Im so excited to come back and try the fish fry. But fr try those dumpling tacos. Make a salad with the sauce after 🤤.
Love this new restaurant!! The smash burgers and G.O.A.T. grilled cheese were fresh and delicious!! Best french fries ever!! Make sure to play Skee ball before you leave-so much fun!!
I went to their opening day.. my biggest complaint is I don’t think I’ll be able to stop going. It’s so good! The food, amazing, the service, amazing. Free skee-ball?! Amazing. I highly recommend this new establishment. The lobster roll is next level!
Tried out this new gem for lunch today and I'm so glad I did! Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and great prices! I will most definitely be going back and often! Highly recommend!
The food was great as well as the service. The only downside was there was live music when we went which was very loud. It was only a guy playing guitar, but it’s not a very big place and that’s all you could hear. It made it hard to talk to our friends we were with, it was distracting instead of enjoyable.
I'm split on my thoughts for this more relaxed take from the people of Rare. In more recent Madison fashion, the owners have decided to do an updated version of a tavern with skee-ball available in the back and a more contemporary decor to accommodate all types. The place is a bit on the smaller side with a fast-casual dining area and a cookie-cutter bar. The service was motivated and a pleasure to have, though with the place being new, unfamiliar with the menu. While I was excited for a humbler take on culinary from the people of Rare, the food and drinks felt uninspired and disorganized rather than consolidated. The charcuterie board was so boring, and I just couldn't recommend it. Other appetizers were just alright. The dessert presented as pistachio tiramisu was a mess. The closer to tavern-style plates of sandwiches seems to be a better option from a cohesion standpoint, though the more formal entrees are not necessarily bad. I just wish I got a more interesting portion of protein or accompaniments, rather than a romesco that doesn't stand on its own. I don't think the prices are unfair as long as the food was more impressive, but as it stands, the value isn't quite there. The issue with everything put together is that this place wants to be an elevated tavern, but instead of eclectic pub fare, it feels more like the phoned-in fast-casual options you see everywhere else, and that might be all you need if you're downtown on State St or in some plaza in Middleton with the guaranteed foot traffic, but I don't think it will get people to venture over to the corner of East Wash and Milwaukee as a premier destination either.
Nice place and friendly staff. We were the 2nd or 3rd table there in order to beat the Friday crowd, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I noticed an identical meal go to a table who arrived much later than we did, then a few minutes later those full plates went back into the kitchen. Friends of ours sitting next to them mentioned they brought that table the wrong order. The server mentioned our food would be coming up shortly and thanked us for being patient, while other tables arriving well after us were eating their entrees. Almost half an hour after our appetizer arrived, our entrees came. My kid's mac and cheese was lukewarm and my fish fry (aside from the end piece) and potato pancakes were mostly soggy. Excellent spiced old fashioned, though! Clearly a mixup or process breakdown, but no explanation from the staff even though I'm certain they were aware of the mishap. We'll give them another go, as they've only been open 10 days, but not a memorable birthday meal by any means.
