Delightful experience at Café Vergara. We ordered Paella (chicken and vegetable) from here for two to share, which we truly enjoyed thoroughly. The flavours were rich and aromatic, this dish is one to definitely try if you come here. Excellent value for for the price charged, the portion was very generous which kept us full for the rest of the day. The staff were all very helpful and attentive. I also ordered the smoked salmon roll as a starter which was very delicious. We also were given fresh bread and extra virgin olive oil with cheese as a complimentary starter/snack. The cafe/restaurant is situated in a lovely location nearby the main attractions of the city. We would recommend for anyone else to try this place to eat🥰🫶🏽🇪🇸

Very pleasant staff, friendly and attentive. The decor was nice and cosy inside the cafe, decorated in an old-style way. We went in for breakfast and enjoyed the set that included serrano ham and tomato with baguette bread, with a coffee. Reasonably priced for the location too.

I had two big slices of tortillas. They were so delicious. The place was clean, pricing was reasonable and the staff was friendly.

Es un restaurante que para estar en el centro de Madrid no es caro y la comida está bien. Los camareros son muy muy amables para lo que necesites. El restaurante es muy bonito y está muy bien decorado. Es algo pequeño pero muy acogedor y chulo. Las mesas no están muy apretadas y eso es un punto muy a favor. El menú cuesta 15,95 euros y entra primer y segundo plato, bebida y postre o café. La única pega que he visto es que los espaguetis a la boloñesa no tienen mucho sabor pero el camarero me atendió súper bien y me puso más salsa. RECOMENDADO

Café / restaurante con una decoración antigua muy bonita enfrente del mismo Teatro Real. El café de tipo arábica y el milhojas buenos (lo único me pareció que para una porción de milhojas tan pequeña, se debería cobrar menos). Me gustó mucho la vitrina junto a la entrada con la gran variedad de tartas. Además tienen churros, tapas, sirven menú del día y a la carta. En resumen: un café con encanto (si no está lleno)

Menú del día a buen precio aunque se recomiendan ciertos platos sobre otros (diferencias notables en la calidad). El solomillo al roquefort tiene muy buen sabor (con patatas) y la ensalada verde, también. Si es para compartir, mejor croquetas que tortilla. De postre, muy recomendable la selección de tartas que incluye tanto la carta como el menú (frutas, red velvet, etc.). Abren desde por la mañana y se puede desayunar al pie del Teatro Real, con una ubicación y decoración inmejorables. Muy buen servicio y terraza (reducida) pero agradable.

Lugar céntrico y acogedor en el que comer menú del día (variado, completo y bien elaborado) sale a un precio más que razonable ( no llega a 19 euros). Se agradecen los manteles y las servilletas de tela. Buen servicio. Puntos negativos: Precio muy elevado del café ( más de 3 euros) y acceso a baños muy incómodo.

Attractive bar offering tourist menu - £18 for 3 courses, bread & a drink. Both had cannelloni for starter - a much larger helping than expected. Very tasty. Only disappointing aspect of the meal was the chips with the main course which were cold. Service was good & ambiance good.

We had the daily menu for 16 euros, in which you get bread, starter, main dish, a drink (including beer, wine and Sangria), and a dessert OR coffee. Generally we had very good experience - the ambiance, the design traditional Spanish design of the restaurant and the service. The food was also good, but not overwhelming - the quality is not the highest, but for justifies the relatively low price. Overall recommended if you want to experience a traditional Spanish cuisine and atmosphere :)

The cake was very delicious, the cappuccino was not really good for my taste (the microfoam was good, but the taste of the coffee was not). If You want to rest in a quiet place in the middle of the rush, it will good enough.

A charming little restaurant very close to the royal palace and next to the opera. There are some tables outside, but I found sitting inside better. The menu of the day (menú del día ) is good value for money: three course meal (starter, main course, desert) plus bread and drink for 14€. I liked the traditional “gazpacho ” cold soup (perfect for a hot day) and the sirloin with roquefourt sauce. The waiters, as in other restaurants I'm Madrid, may understand basic English, but still talk to you in Spanish although you speak to them in English, so be prepared.

Tampoco le puedes pedir peras al olmo. Los chicos carecen de aptitudes culinarias y de cómo servir adecuadamente. Solo necesitan alguien que les ilumine. Sin ánimo de ser pesquilloo, el sándwich noruego tenía dos rodajas de tomate de 1,5cm de espesor. Ojo ahi. Eso sí, te piden disculpas por anticipado, lo cual son conscientes de la situación. Si se llama Café Vergara entiendo que el café es la especialidad de la casa. Sin embargo el café es una catástrofe. Y el roscón que sirven por este tiempo…. es normalito del montón.

Seguramente el peor café que he probado en mucho tiempo, precios ridículamente altos y un servicio nefasto, la primera y última vez que vengo. He tenido que dejar el café entero (4,25€)

Este lugar arruinó mi eurotrip unos días. Su postre estaba echado a perder. Estuve enfermo del estómago por días. Lo que más me enoja es que les informé a los empleados y siguieron teniendo la tarta en la vitrina de postres. La comida si estaba rica, no lo voy a negar y a precio razonable.

Fui a desayunar con la idea de empezar bien el día, pero parece que en Café Vergara tenían otros planes para mí. Pedí un zumo de naranja, un café con leche y una tostada con tomate y jamón york. El camarero, muy amablemente, me informó de que no tenían york, pero sí jamón serrano. “Bueno, qué remedio”, pensé. El zumo fue lo único salvable, porque era recién exprimido y dudo que hubieran tenido tiempo de arruinarlo. Pero aquí empieza la tragedia: la tostada llegó con lo que supuestamente era jamón serrano, pero más que jamón, aquello parecía una losa de sal prensada. Al darle un bocado, mi paladar entró en estado de emergencia: era tan salado que por un momento sentí que me estaba comiendo un bonito crudo recién sacado del mar. Intenté salvar la situación retirando el jamón y quedándome con el pan y el tomate, pero la sorpresa no terminó ahí: el pan estaba duro y seco, digno de haber sido usado en una obra como material de construcción antes de acabar en mi plato. Y para poner la guinda al desastre, el café tenía la misma personalidad que un charco de agua de lluvia. En conclusión, si buscas un desayuno que te haga valorar más la comida de hospital, Café Vergara es el lugar perfecto. ¡Una experiencia irrepetible… porque no pienso repetir!

He tomado hoy un café con leche, bastante normalito, por cierto, y me han cobrado 3,25€. Ahora estoy revisando otras reseñas y aparece la foto de una carta de hace tres días y el precio que pone es 2,60. Una de dos, o me han engañado o la carta está obsoleta. No sé qué pensar, pero el precio del café me ha dejado helada. Soy de Madrid y estoy acostumbrada a que en algunos sitios pidan lo que quieran, pero esto me ha chirriado ya que es un bar sin nada especial.

Voy a Madrid todos los años varias veces y siempre me quedo en un hotel en la plaza de Opera. He bajado varias veces a desayunar a lo largo de los años a esta cafetería y siempre es lo mismo. El sitio precioso, las tartas y bollería de diez. Los camareros de cero. La cafetería con varias mesas sin atender, un camarero en las mesas y cuatro tras el mostrador algunos incluso hablando entre ellos. Se respira un ambiente de tedio, de no quiero hacerte agradable el desayuno tremendo. No estás a gusto. Lo de siempre. Vas porque el producto es magnífico y juras que no vuelves a ir cuando sales por la actitud del personal.

hemos pedido café y nos dieron el café súper caliente, siendo que pedimos templado. le pedís un tipo de leche y te ponen otro, le pides un café y te dan el que quieren! demasiado caro el café para las pocas ganas que le ponen! el café ni siquiera tiene sabor a café, parece agua marrón con leche.

We called in for a quick coffee on the run and regretted the decision. Lovely decor but Americano and coffee with milk were both very weak and expensive for what they were. Milk coffee was particularly bad. $6 AUD a small cup!! Should have gone to Starbucks, also expensive but at least good quality.

This place is a tourist trap! Avoid this place at all cost. The food was nasty; seafood tasted like frozen. Were asked if we wanted bread. Of course yes. Only to find the bread on the bill. First of all, the bread was cardboard hard. The olive oil was not fresh and so was the cheese. Both had rancid taste. The paella was nasty. Was charged more than 4 euros for a bottle of water. This place will charge for water. Shouldve just eaten at McDonalds. Also the moment they say they dont accept AMEX, you know why. Coz AMEX is quick to reverse charges. The 10-20 euro cost per person on google is fake. And so are the high reviews.

Sad to say this cafe barely deserves one star. Biggest issue was uncooked chicken - see photo of pink flesh. (I note that other reviewers have complained about the raw chicken.) Secondly, next to our table sat a couple conducting a live conversation on a smart phone with the volume turned up to max. The waiting staff did not ask them to stop. The mixed tapas at €18+ was mediocre. Better was the steak frites, the soup, and a slice of cake. Not enough though to compensate for the negatives.

It looked classy from outside but the food was horrible, not any effort at all. Plus the worse the waiter gave us complementary bread which I didn’t order and at the end he put it on the bill and when I asked him why, he said you eat it didn’t you? Unprofessional and rip off place taking advantage of the tourists.
