There are places that serve great wine, and then there are places that become part of your story. This wine bar in Madrid is the latter for us. We fell in love here years ago, and every time we return, it feels like coming home. The staff are incredible, but a special thank you goes to Abril, who made us feel like old friends. Her warmth and attention made our visit at the Mercado unforgettable. She gave us the kind of special treatment that turns a great night into a lasting memory. The wine selection is exceptional. For us, it’s more than just a wine bar. It’s where our story began. It is where we will keep coming back, and it is where we will always feel welcome.

I'm surprised with the negative reviews. I had a great time here. I went back three times in three days tasting many different by-the-glass wines: cavas, blancos and tintos. As to be expected, quality is a function of price. I tasted a really excellent Valdeorras Reserva which at €16 is 3 times the cost of their regular tintos (and 3 times the cost of a bottle of Campo Viejo in El Corte Ingles, but I would not touch that) but it was served in a proper bigger glass to savor all its complexities. I couldn't finish a bottle anyway so it was a deal for me. When I went back the next time, I asked for tintos that were similar in quality to the Valdeorras and they recommended me two Ribera del Dueros which were excellent too. Next I asked for their "good" blanco and it was similarly excellent. I'm Asian with an Asian face and I was not discriminated or anything. And yes, you could eat your pintxos on their desk if you asked them.

This is a great bar, inside San Miguel market. The wines are excellent and if you are not sure what you are after, the knowledgable staff will assist. The delightful man who served us also took the time to take a photo of us at the bar with our wine. Also, they had no issue with us eating our pintxos at their bar (ask first) while we enjoyed a glass or two.

Vinos blancos, tintos, cavas y champagne entre 4€ vinos 5€ cavas. Te ofrecen probar varios hasta dar con el que te gusta. Mucha variación, puede ser por copas o botella, a tu gusto. Para aperitivos hay mucha variedad en el mercado de San Miguel que te puedes llevar a la barra, ostras, jamones, quesos encurtidos, bacalao, etc. Muy amable el personal.

Tienen una buena selección de vinos y probablemente sea el mejor sitio del mercado de San Miguel para tomar una copa, sobretodo si estamos hablando de Jerez.

Una experiencia muy grata degustando vinos en este establecimiento. A pesar de la gran afluencia de público, el servicio fue excelente y el ambiente muy agradable. Quiero destacar especialmente a Sara y Abril, que nos atendieron con una sonrisa constante, una amabilidad ejemplar y un positivismo que también otros clientes han resaltado. Nos ofrecieron catar distintos vinos y mostraron una profesionalidad y cercanía que marcan la diferencia. Sin duda, un lugar muy recomendable.

La verdad que el mejor sitio para tomar vinos que he visitado nunca. Una carta como muy pocas he visto con referencias de calidad y un personal encantador que me ha sabido aconsejar según mis gustos. Pasamos por el mercado de San Miguel en nuestra visita a Madrid y por casualidad llegamos a Pickelton & Wine. Pasamos un rato estupendo en el que su camarero Quique nos recomendó diferentes variedades de vino mientras nos explicaba sus diferencias. ¡Volveremos seguro! Hubiéramos agradecido haber tenido algo de aire acondicionado, sobre todo ahora en verano.

Un buen lugar donde hacer una parada en Madrid, tanto locales como foráneos, muy buenos vinos y un excelente y agradable servicio. El chico grandullón fue encantador y dio en la tecla con lo que buscábamos. Precios relativamente baratos, teniendo en cuenta tanto el lugar como la atención.

Buen vino, a veces un poco agobiante el mercado en general porque hay mucha gente pero compensa. El camarero uruguayo nos trató genial, volveremos seguro.

They have a huge selection of wines, and you’d have a difficult time choosing a bad one. Their bottle prices are a bit high, but a better deal than the individual glasses.

It's nice that they let you taste before you buy but I don't think they quite understand what your taste in wine is. Anytime we described what we liked, they gave us something very different ( something okay but not what we were looking for). In our experience, the more experienced the sommelier, the better they can match your taste in wine.

Puesto en el mercado de San Miguel, especializado en vermuts, con una gran variedad, también tienen "sangria lolailo" Para los que le guste el riesgo. Profesionales atentos y simpáticos que te pueden recomendar algo adecuado a tus gustos, a nosotros creo que nos atendió Gerardo, nos dió a probar un par de vermuts según lo que le fuimos comentando y dió en el clavo. Solo pasé a probar un vino luego de un freetour, no elegí bien y compré uno muy dulce, muuuuuy, pero pude haber elegido otro, a simple vista hay una variedad enorme.

Carta de vinos aceptable y buen trato. Para tomar algo y compartir genial, dependiendo de la hora tendrás que tener paciencia, ya que se pone hasta la bandera. Pero recomendable.

Local situado en el mercado de San Miguel y que, actualmente, se encuentra medio en obras. Para llegar a este sitio tendrás que sortear a un montón de turistas haciendo fotos lo que complica la movilidad. El nombre del bar no engaña y está especializado en vinos. Es un pelín caro, supongo que para rentabilizar el coste del local en este mercado y el número de camareros. Supongo que la sensación entre semana será distinta, pero intentar tomar algo en fin de semana es un poco locura. Tienes una enorme variedad de vinos, pero como los humanos somos como borregos acabamos tomando o los que aparecen en el cartel o el que nos recomienda el camarero (son muy amables en el trato).

He ido un par de veces a tomarme unos vinos y para lo que te sirven me resulta algo caro pagar más de 2€ por una copa de vino. Dependiendo de la botella, casi te sale más barato coger una botella. La cerveza está buena y suele estar bien tirada. Suele estar bastante lleno y cambian fácilmente del castellano al inglés dependiendo del cliente. #PartyOnLG

I would strongly recommend to be careful if you're planning to buy wine bottles here. They don't have price tags on the bottles and I can prove that they overprice their wines if you're not familiar with it. I requested one of the employees to show me some labels not so commercial around the world but good enough to cellar for a while. I was sold for 4 bottles paying almost 500 euro. So sad when I found that the cost of this bottles in "El Corte Ingles" was so much lower than 300 euro... I asked for some kind of refund as an abused tourist, but they just would never answer to my request. Good place with terrible policies for making quick money. Watch out! U P D A T E (June 12, 2018) P&W contacted me and apologized for a mistake during my checkout process (they billed as if I drank the bottle there instead of considering “to go”). Further more, they reimbursed for the cost of this mistake AND gifted a couple of bottles as compensation. Didn’t see that coming. Two thumbs up for P&W!

I received incorrect, ill-informed and arrogant advice from this wine stall in San Miguel. I have enjoyed a few wines here before but since Covid this is the first time I've had the time or space to have a chat with the man behind the bar. And I wish I hadn't. He didn't understand the meaning of a 'dry' wine and was incredibly condescending explaining to me that there are 3 types of wine - "red, white and rosé". This is patronising (and also incorrect given wine styles being produced these days *ahem orange wine*). When challenged I was informed within these categories there are only 3 further categorisations: dry, fruity and sweet. Ummm... Fruity as a descriptor isn't mutually exclusive with dry and sweet. Most dry wines are fruity and most sweet wines are too. Such myth-peddling is damaging to the wine trade. Wine should be inclusive, informative and fun in my opinion. Pinkleton's arrogance begs to differ. Incorrect information gives wine consumers the wrong impression and means they stay away from perfectly well made delicious wine. Go to Taberneros instead to get warm friendly wine advice.

I was here specially because of the reviews, and while I was picturing myself the bartender sprayed water on me to move me away. I still ordered a wine glass here which was not at the right temperature red wine. Overall the bartenders sucked! They were not welcoming and I felt unwelcome.

Como conocedor del gremio, 22 años a mis espaldas en el mundo de la hostelería ( 8 años en el mundo del vino) me parece un tanto descabellado cobrar por una copa de VORS de Lustau 25 calas !!!! A ver he pagado 6€ por una copa de Leonor , por cierto, que menos que tuviera su temperatura correcta, pero bueno , a lo que voy , estaba deseando conocer este rincón y no creo que vuelva más . Como recomendación , en un negocio , como este , que menos que se tengan operarios con conocimientos de todo tipo de vinos . Pd : Esa pizarra de Vinos a 4€ , tinto , blanco , etc .. lo que es mercado, supongo que el alquiler es bastante caro .

Horrible service if you want to be ignored … doesn’t seem that they want to serve me but served everyone else who wasn’t coloured the same and spoke Spanish. Even acknowledged and signalled for me that they saw me and will get to me. Had to send my non-Asian friend to get us the wine

I took my family to La Taberna Mr Pinkleton and was disappointed and regret that I did. The staff was abrupt and unfriendly - we were also not allowed to take pics for our travel memories. It was not an enjoyable experience. I see they are now closed. 🤔

Really horrible service from a very unpleasant, arrogant man, who when asked for a menu said "I am the menu". He insisted that none of their wines were "natural", despite us seeing many natural wines in their display. They should really think about hiring staff with proper wine knowledge, who treat their customers with respect instead of contempt.

Unsurprised to read the bad reviews. I had been drinking champagne at one of the other bars and thought I would go for a glass there as they had a larger range. The server was condescending and repeatedly giggled in our faces when I wouldn’t tell her exactly the one of the brand I had mentioned. When I asked what she would recommend, she giggled in our face again. Having had enough, I asked what she was laughing at and she said she needed us to choose as there was a price difference. I assured her we could afford it and again asked what she recommended, she started laughing again. I walked away and bought champagne at another bar. Never experienced bar staff so arrogant.

Siempre que voy al mercado San Miguel, me tomo una copa de champagne en Pinkleton. Estuve hace dos días, después de un largo periodo sin acudir, y que decepción!!! El peor champagne que jamas he tomado. Realmente asqueroso, a tal punto que no pudimos terminar la copa de lo malo que estaba. Ademas, por el módico precio de 12 € la copa. A los amantes del buen champagne francés ni se les ocurra consumirlo en este local. Es inconcebible que Pinkleton, que se dice especializado en vinos y champagne selectos, ofrezca un champagne tan pésimo.
