Bar Juan Diego Mahide Reviews
AMAZING!!! You are right on the beach. Staff has always been pleasant and helpful. Food is right on par. We eat our breakfast there daily every time we visit Rocky Point. Been there a few times during dinner service and the food was excellent. Loves the live music. This is a little hidden gem that you must try when traveling to Rocky Point.
We came here for breakfast, we were very impressed! Staff was very welcoming and friendly, great service and the atmosphere was wonderful. The food was absolutely amazing, not only was it delicious and full of flavor, the plating was beautiful too. This is now our #1 spot to come to!
I was staying next door at the Sonoran Sun resort. Ordered several drinks at the pool bar and they were all horrible. That place is not an all- inclusive but the drinks were very watered-down and tasted horrible. If you walk down to the beach Diegos Tiki bar is next door and is a very short walk. It is located in the Esmeralda resort. The resturant/ bar is very nice and located right on the beach. The staff was great and the drinks were excellent.
Great place, very sophisticated food, as The bone marrow, The stuffed fish (flounder), The octopus, coconut shrimp, all " to die for". And Bernardo, our server, was impeccable, knowledgeable, and Maestro of the Mexican flaming coffee. Great music also, they have 3 bands that perform loveble international songs. Highly recommend the Diego's Tiki bar at Esmeralda beach resort. We ate there 2 nights and will be back for sure. Liviu, Anna Maria & Oltea (Peoria, Az)
The food was delicious and our server had exceptional service! The restaurant is on the beach with a beautiful view. We’ll definitely be back!
We love this place! Right on the water. You feel the ocean breeze and have the ocean waves in background music. The place has a great vibe, feels like you’re in a fancy restaurant in Cabo. There is a playground that my kids love to play on so my husband and I feel like we are on a date night night while the kids play! Bernard was our waiter, amazing service and great guy!
The fish tacos are SO good!! I ate them at least once a day everyday for 5 days. Sergio is the best server ever, he remembered us at the pool after the first day and was always coming back to make sure we didn’t need anything else. If you ever go to Diego’s or stay at Esmerelda, ask for Sergio!
Our first night in RP and it didn’t disappoint. Dinner at Diego’s was outstanding. Six of us ordered something different and we shared as a group. Pasta, seafood, tacos, salad and more. We were surprised at how fresh and delicious everything was. We are going back today for breakfast! Highly recommended Diego’s!
Great food and really good drinks! Their mixologist really knows his stuff. Their drinks are unique and different. They use top tier spirits, ingredients and real fruit. At night they have tiki toeches on and cool lighting all around the bar. It's a total vibe.
Beautiful place right on the beach, wonderful location, water is warm, the bar has a great variety of items from American to Mexican and Italian, the food is very well cooked even if the recipes are not the original, but overall perfect to spend the day
Loved the beachfront location also so close to our resort. Great food and super drinks The prices are comparable to the states. But worth the flavor and ambience
The food and service has always been great. However, there have been several small changes recently and the food is phenomenal!
Atmosphere is fantastic. Service was fast and so friendly (Johnathan). Food was incredible. I couldn't have had a better experience.
Excellent place, beautiful sea views. Service is great, a little pricey for the portions they serve but it is good indeed. Everyone is helpful.
Awesome food right at the beach. Service was great and music set the mood.
Super delicious food. I ordered the sliders and my partner ordered a quesadilla, both very good. The cocktails were also amazing! Love that this place is right on the beach. I have been visiting Puerto Penasco for years and this was my first time visiting this establishment. Our server was wonderful as well. We will definitely come here again during our visit and highly recommend this place!
We visited Diego’s Tiki Bar for the first time and can’t wait to return. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the food truly exceeded our expectations—especially the perfectly cooked octopus, which was the standout dish of the night. Beyond the delicious menu, the ambiance is hard to beat: located next to a resort swimming pool with beautiful beach and ocean views, the setting feels like a vacation within a vacation. Adding to the fun was the live music, which kept the energy high and really set the tone for a memorable evening. We highly recommend Diego’s Tiki Bar for anyone looking to enjoy great food, fantastic service, and a wonderful atmosphere.
A vibrant tiki bar nestled along the stunning coastline of Mexico, framed by palm trees and golden sands. The atmosphere is lively, with colorful and cozy casting a warm glow as the sun sets over the horizon. The bar features an impressive menu of fancy cocktails, each presented with artistic flair, featuring tropical fruits, elaborate garnishes, and eye-catching glassware. Guests sip on vibrant drinks, like vibrant blue ocean waves, or the classic margarita presented in a coconut shell, adorned with orchids and fresh fruit. The culinary highlight is undeniably the mouthwatering carne asada—a perfect blend of marinated skirt steak, grilled to perfection with a smoky char. Served alongside homemade guacamole, made from ripe avocados, lime juice, onions, cilantro, and just the right amount of spice, it offers a fresh, creamy contrast to the savory meat. The combination of stunning ocean views, delectable drinks, and delicious food creates an unforgettable experience at this beachside tiki paradise.
Yummy!!! 😋 great food, great drinks and great service! (with US prices) We went on a Thursday and this place was relaxing, not crowded at all! Great view of the ocean! Just an FYI, if you order food, get ready for flys everywhere. While drinking, no flys. Also the place is kinda off road, it looks like the area is still under construction. Other than that, I highly recommend!
Wonderful sunset spot on Sandy Beach. Great guacamole! Yummy fish tacos. Cold drinks. Great service.
Doesn't get much better than a Watermelon Mojito on the beach!! We also had the club sandwich which was very nice. Perfect proportion! The veiw is amazing and the service was nothing short of a Royals Welcome!! We were treated like The King and Queen of the beach!! We will be going back very soon!!

A lovely open air bar and grill located on Sandy Beach next to the Esmeralda Resort. It's very nice, but the tables and chairs were too close together. It felt crowded and you you hear others conversations without wanting to. We ordered limanada drinks (non alcoholic) and ceviche which was very good. Our bill was $30 so we thought it was a bit pricey. The service was fairly good and the staff courteous. 👍👍👍👍
You can't beat the views, it's right on the beach. It was quiet when I was there but I imagine that it gets hopping as the weather warms. It is a bit expensive so be aware.
Good view, lots of staff present. Onion Rings not in the menu but should be, best we have had in 10 years! Loved the margarita and pina colada but choice of cerveza not my cup of tea, wasn't beer go to Grapes and Barley! We had hamburgers and fries. Fries Little to seasoned and wilted for me but guys liked theirs. Burger and bun were good. Will try something else and order onion rings again for sure. Missed seeing Christian working last night, he got off at 3pm and we went during happy hour. There was a band, nice old music and glad they took breaks so we all could talk but they did sound good and we could hear them with out any issues. Check out this place and follow up with your thoughts
Great spot, found it by accident due to missing a turn and came back to check it out. Beautiful setup with a great atmosphere right on the beach. Drinks are kind of pricey but they were good and had a nice presentation. Didn't try the food but we were given a complimentary sample of the garlic bread with marinara which was great. Definitely recommend checking the place out!
We called ahead and asked if they had 'live music' that night and they said yes. We showed up to no live music, and it's a bit of a way out of town. Prices are high, as it is in the resort area. We just had drinks, three of us, with a total of two beers, 6 shots, and a nicely presented tiki watermelon mojito... 1900 pesos (about $100 USD). Not your typical tiki bar design, more of a beach bar design, but nicely done. Service was good, when glasses were empty, there was already someone on their way to take an additional order.
We had a great time at Diego's! Loved the ocean views, service and food. Nice place to watch the sunset too. Glad we were there for Happy Hour but we still managed to spend $400 on apps and drinks for 6 of us. Watch for the marked entrance to the parking area just after Esmerelda Resort.
Walked in from the beach - no shoes was cool! Unbeatable views of the Sea of Cortez. Nice big g bar and plentiful seating. I had the Eggs Benedict. They used prosciutto instead of Canadian bacon. That changed the taste and texture slightly. Hollandaise sauce was good. Spinach too. Prices a little higher but still not bad. Staff were terrific!
Great place for breakfast in Penasco. Food is always great, although a little spendy and drinks are good. Great atmosphere! Right on the beach.
Super recomendado y muy buen servicio

$20 USD for Penne Arrabbiatta ... simple boiled pasta with red sauce...give me a break!....everything is WAY too expensive ...and flies eveywhere...fly infested...landing on the drinks and food everywhere. yuk! Don't come here.
Beautiful setting, on the beach. The host and servers were very nice BUT the food was bad and way overpriced. Didn't have cocktail, so I can't say much about their quality, but maybe that's a better option to come for a afternoon or sunset cocktail rather than dinner.
Nice location nice view good music. Went there yesterday for dinner. Prices are very high. We ordered a kids burger, was red in the inside they took the burger back and brought out the same one, even after my son took a bite of it. Cross contamination for sure. There were so many flies, I couldn’t even eat my food due to the massive amount of flies. They need something to control that maybe outdoor fans or fans on the table, enough to extend on their tables. The bar —— drinks are extremely high too, 4 shots for $45 and $8.00 beers for Tecate lights. The food was not worth the money. I ordered aguachirles for $28 dollars with about 6 pieces of shrimp.
Prime beachfront location and lovely service. It is not the staff's fault that management raises the prices in the system but doesn't update the menu accordingly. My visitors caught this at 3 out of 5 places visited so you can bet I'll be checking my bill against the menu everywhere in future.
On Dec 19, we started with the coconut shrimp. Excellent. The English breakfast sounded appetizing on the menu. The promise of filet mignon made me ravenous with appetite but unfortunately an order of medium rare turned out to arrive well done. It was like chewing cardboard with no taste whatsoever and the texture left me dismayed. The other steak was also supposed to be medium rare, but turned out well done and tough on the outside, but almost totally raw on the inside. Unfortunate. The chef did make a new one. The two eggs were draped over a slice of sourdough bread were quite lovely in appearance and taste. The first egg was delicious but as I prepared to have the second a fly was skating across the yoke and that ended my appetite for egg. More flies arrived. As for the carrot cake, the presentation was beautiful but looks can be deceiving. The cake itself was dry. Of the entire experience, the shrimp saved the day. The strawberry daiquiri was very good and the refried beans had a nice spicy kick, but not too much. Service was good. The view is of course amazing.
Diego’s Tiki Bar has always been one of our go-to spots every time we visit Rocky Point—we usually come down 2–3 times a year, and for years it was part of our regular rotation. Unfortunately, over the last few visits we’ve noticed it has slowly gone downhill, and after tonight we felt we had to share a review. We ordered the octopus, which came overcooked, smothered in sauce, and they hadn’t even removed the beak. We also ordered a fish dish and The shrimp dish that was stuffed with cheese and bacond. The fish entrée was also overcooked. That’s not what we expect from a place we once considered a favorite. The view is still fantastic, and the atmosphere makes for a great spot to grab a drink, but the food no longer lives up to the standard it once had. Sadly, we’ll likely skip Diego’s for meals on our next trip and just stop by for drinks instead.

The food was sub-par to say the least, and heavily over-priced compared to the local economy. The meat on my hamburger was under-seasoned, the same for carne asada tacos. At breakfast, they passed off sourdough toast with cinnamon as french toast, the Eggs Benedict was made on what tasted like hamburger buns and didn't have enough sauce. The omelette was overcooked and so was the seafood inside. The only good thing was the mixed drinks which were very good. Overall, the kitchen needs a lot of work.
161$ ordered angus cheeseburger med rare. Came in well done , like leather. Server was great, cook is not a chef. We don’t reccomend this place. Will stick with Asadero tacos or Mare Blue. 4 people, so not worth the $$
We Have been wanting to give this place a try our last couple trips but really wished we would have gone down the road to Wrecked. The prices are expensive by US standards. The service was beyond awful. We waited 1 hour 45 minutes for our food. Waiter told us ahead of time the kitchen was slow and it would take about 40 minutes. Every time we asked he said “5 more minutes” like the trick you use on your kids during a road trip. If he would have checked on us we would have ordered lots more drinks during our wait but he just let us sit there. When our food finally did arrive we had no silverware and had to track him down for that. The food was good. Really good. Hence the 2 stars. We were offered a free dessert for our wait but that was not even close to compensating for our experience. We asked to talk to the manager and we’re told he had left for the night. This restaurant just isn’t ready for prime time. I’ll give them a couple years and try again.
If you like watered down Sunny Delight for $14 USD, (aka “Mai Tai” on the menu) this is your spot. Bonus: you can drink all day and never get a hangover or even a buzz. It was my first drink of the day and I was more sober by the end of the drink than I was when I arrived. The setting and view is nice.
Waited over an hour for a “shrimp” quesadilla and three tacos that had maybe 5 tiny shrimps in it. Overall, I think the kitchen is probably understaffed and had slow service. Not worth the money, drinks were overall OK but my strawberry margarita just tasted like syrup. I would not go back to this place.
Mal servicio, bebidas sin sabor, los precios muy altos y la calidad de la comida que ofrecen no es nada bueno

We have been here a few times previously & always really enjoyed our visit, food, drinks & service had always been wonderful which is why we chose to spend our anniversary dinner here along with other people who joined us on this trip. Since we had a group of 12 people total for this special occasion we booked a reservation as to ensure that they were prepared for our large group. We arrived for our reservation only to be told that due to a large group that arrived prior to us for a baby shower celebration that we were looking at aprox 45 minutes before any food orders could be served- this really should have been mentioned at time of booking our reservation but no problem we understood & proceeded to get our drink & meal orders in so that they had them in advance. Drinks eventually came out over 30 minutes later and half were incorrect as well as served to the wrong people in our group- no biggie we personally re-distributed our drinks amongst ourselves to the right people & advised the waitress that a couple drinks weren’t what was ordered thinking she would take them back and bring the correct drinks. She proceeded to leave them at our table & returned with correct ones 20 minutes later. Ultimately it wasn’t 45 minutes for our food but instead ended up being almost 2 hours later, they brought peoples meals out in pieces i.e. baked potato alone then the steak 20 minutes later, everyone was essentially given the wrong orders which we re-distributed amongst ourselves and everyone received food at very separate times meaning by the time everyone received food over half had already finished eating lol One waiter spilled a hot cup of butter on top of my nieces head and face which actually burned her skin and all that was done was a brief oh sorry. Everyone’s food was horrible, the kitchen had literally diced the shrimp orders and mutilated all steak orders in an attempt to cook them faster so that the staff could leave the kitchen to stand at the bar to watch the boxing match that had just started. A couple of us began feeling ill from the food, one meal was so bad it couldn’t be eaten at all & the waitress offered to remake it but by then we didn’t want to wait even longer for it to be remade so she advised she would make sure to take it & remove it from the bill. Upon receiving our bill nothing had been removed and things that were not ordered or received were added on the bill lol. To make matters worse, they called security to our area in an attempt to intimidate us to pay for the items that had never been ordered or received when we were trying to get them to correct the bill. Idk if this poor service & poor food I quality is the new normal for Diegos or if we simply got stuck with a horrible experience as a result of the staff wanting to stop working that evening so they could catch the big boxing fight on the bar screen buttt sadly this last experience was horrible enough that we don’t wish to return to find out. :( I’m sure our not returning won’t make a difference to this establishment but it’s really a bummer that we had this horrible experience on such a special occasion especially at a place that we previously loved going to after discovering it. I truly hope it was a one off situation so that no one else experiences this & at the very least management should really consider having a discussion with wait & kitchen staff regarding these types of issues when it comes to their patrons.
Welp. Here we are. Used to be such a great place. Good drinks, reasonable. But damn. First, food is still ok. But super expensive. But the biggest thing for my husband and I was the alcohol drinks we purchased at the bar. Nothing fancy, just what we usually drink. Def not what we drink. It’s almost as if it wasn’t the real thing. Even the color of the crown royal in the bottle was not the same. We instantly starting feeling crummy after one drink. Just disappointing. We have heard about other places throughout Mexico that “water down” or have illegally made alcohol unfortunately. It’s always been a go to spot for us. But will not be going again. Noticing it more at the resorts vs the local bars in town. Just be aware. It’s happening more and more. We first experienced it in Cabo. This is the first time here.
I really can not see myself willingly returns! It was lunchtime, it was not very busy we told the bartender we were there. We were told to sit on anywhere. For nearly 20 minutes more than 2 waiters continually passed by without even a greating. I thought, that's not very Rocke Point. Orders were finally taken, the food and drinks arrived in fine form. Except I had ordered flour tortillas and not corn, I got corn. Not very good corn tortillas they were tough and dry and tasteless. I mentioned that to the waiter who said maybe next time huh. No Next time
Update 9/28/22 - just reviewed my card statement and they over charged my card by $30!! Wow... I dont belive the good reviews of this restaurant are real folks!!! Pros 1. View is amazing. 2. Bar is clean and looked nice. 3. Drinks were nice, just really pricey... Cons 1. Really expensive!!! Even for US standards. 2. FLIES FLIES FLIES OMG FLIES! 3. Food was decent but nothing special. 4. Service was lacking and we had to flag waiters down to even order drinks and food. I wanted to like this place. Couldnt wait to leave tho and when i got the $140 bill for 6 breakfasts and 3 acholic drinks with well liquor it made me not want to return.
The only thing good about this place is location. The food is terribly over priced and not very good at all. The price is .. well... just stupid. Drinks sucked. It belongs to an all inclusive resort so they provide the very least as possible. We've been to many places here in Puerto Pinasco and this isn't our first time in the area. I'll never go back here simply on principle.
My wife and daughter and i had the worst meal in recent memory here. All 3 items came out cold, and cream sauce on the fish and pulpo tasted burnt. The manager argued with us that the food was warm and there was nothing wrong with it. The manager was exteremly rude, and had no concern about making any thing right. Our server Maddie was great, and the view was great, but the food was absolutely horrible. Avoid this place!
Needs a lot of improvement and access to handicapped people. I would not recommend the food for the price. Spent too much for the quality.
