Smoke Shack Mammoth Lakes Reviews
The tri-tip sandwich with the two sides, I got potato salad and beans. Pretty tasty! I come here for the downhill mountain biking, and I’m a meat eater. Good tri tip, good portion, cooked right. I gave five stars, but I think they’re still room for some improvement such as more smoked flavor and an option for a spicier barbecue sauce. It should be noted this Location is for to go, and even has what looks like a drive-through. But I parked and walked up to the window, food was ready in about five minutes or less
Wow. I can’t think of a pulled pork sandwich I’ve enjoyed more. The bun was sturdy, toasted and delicious, the barbecue sauce was great, and the pork was high quality. My wife loved her tri-tip sandwich. Excellent lunch stop!
I ate the tri tip with spicy bbq sauce, mac n cheese, and potato salad. The food was awesome. The guy that took the order was very nice and gave us good service and recommended our meal. I dont think i will pass through mammoth again without stopping at this spot. If you havent tried it, your honestly missing out.
Highly recommend! Had the tri tip burrito and homemade milkshake. Everything was delicious, and friendly service too.
I've never had such good sandwiches. We tried the Smoked Tri Tip Sandwich and the Tri Tip Burrito. I might make the trip again just to eat those.
Perfect spot for a quick bite on the way out of Mammoth. Got the smoked tri-tip breakfast burrito with salsa verde and it was so good! Also got a fruit milkshake on a whim and I’m glad that I did. One of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had! Quick and kind service. Ample parking with covered outdoor seating (necessary with the brutal Eastern Sierra sun). I hope this place takes off because it deserves to!
The pulled pork sandwich is delicious, large portion. The service is fast and friendly. Picnic tables to eat outside or take to go. Definitely recommend!
Well, this one gets 4.9 stars for a reason. We ordered the Tri Tip 1 bls, Pull Pork Burrito, and a Cole Slaw. Oh my, delicious, juicy, and layers of layers of different fantastic flavors. And btw, if you visit during winter, you might be able to catch the beautiful sunset color in the sky.
Very reasonably priced for Mammoth and good portions. Good milkshakes and very good food. Could be slow FYI if its not during a busier time where they need more staff but worth the wait
Had the pulled pork burrito and I loved it. Husband had the tri tip and ate it all before I had a taste. He said it was great too.
Seriously one of the best tri-tip sandwiches I’ve ever had. The tri-tip is perfectly tender and they get the bread nicely crisped. You don’t want to miss this spot if you’re in the area.
We love this spot so much. Have to make a stop every time we come to Mammoth!! The most AMAZING, shakes, burritos, mac n’ cheese amongst other great options. Nathaniel is also wonderful…so friendly and helpful and fun to chat with. This is definitely not a spot to miss if you are looking for super tasty, unique, and quick food!
Hit this place up with my two sons after a day of skiing. The server was super friendly and recommended the tri tip sandwich (which all three of us ended up ordering). The meat was AMAZING; get the spicy BBQ sauce. Spoke with "the Cook" briefly. Super friendly guy who smokes the meat himself. Would highly recommend! Worth it!
if you like barbecue, this is a must stop. The rates are really good even for Mammoth and the food was delicious. We had the tri-tip and pulled pork all the cart and was really good. The owner is super friendly and gave my daughter and I really generous portions.
Stopped by this place while charging my car in Mammoth — everything was amazing! The smoked tri-tip was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned — not dry at all. The sauce that came with it made it even better — a perfect match! The Mexican-style pancake (quesadilla) was packed with shredded pork and melted cheese, so tasty and comforting. And the milkshake… sweet but not too much, full of real fruit bits — I loved every sip! 💕 This little mountain town right outside Yosemite is so beautiful — the drive down is full of golden fall leaves and snow-covered peaks. Totally worth the trip, both for the food and the views. 🍂🏔️🚗
Tri-tip is awesome. Little pricey but you are on a mountain! Seating is all outside, probably amazing during summer, little rough in October. But it’s a beautiful area so why not!
Great smoked meat. I like that both had their own flavor and different bbq sauce. We opted out for just meat for two of our servings and the other two were sandwiches, we all were happy with our choices
Amazing tri tip and shake. Was out of mac but owner is super nice and made the shake a large!
Fresh tender perfectly cooked meat and generous portions! The quesadilla was so filling that I saved half of it for a later meal
Amazing tri tip sandwich and yummy potato salad as a side!! The baguette that they use for the sandwich gave the right crunch to every bite and does not feel heavy. My husband got the pulled pork mac and cheese and loved it too. Great spot for lunch after a good hike 😊
Wow, the food was amazing! We had the tri tip sandwich and the Mac n cheese with pulled pork. Both were so flavorful and delicious! The staff was friendly and let us know ahead of time that there were a bunch of orders ahead of us. The wait wasn't too long though, thanks to some friendly conversation with others also waiting for their food. The meal was definitely worth the wait!
Really good BBQ served with a smile. The place is unassuming. Blink and you will miss it. The tri tip sandwich was really good with a tangy BBQ sauce. The pulled pork sandwich was also good. The sides (baked beans and coleslaw) were an added bonus.
Vegan meatball sandwich was freaking amazing. Super friendly staff. Lovely little table to sit at out front

Great BBQ, the pulled pork sandwich and the trios tip burrito were both great. The mac & cheese side was very good, you definitely have to stop here when you’re in town.
I’m from San Diego and Mammoth Smoke Shack has the best Tri Tip Sandwich with the spicy BBQ sauce was fire. The salty Caramel shake was so good too. Love this place and definitely coming here every time I visit mammoth. A must try and eat.
I drove all the way from Lake Tahoe just to try Mammoth Smoke Shack, and it was absolutely worth the trip. I grabbed both the tri tip sandwich and the tri tip burrito—each one was packed with juicy, tender meat and loaded with rich flavor. The sauce was perfect, super flavorful without overpowering the meat. On top of that, the customer service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Easily one of the best stops I’ve made, and I’d 100% come back again.
The burritos and sandwiches are amazing. It literally is a shack so phone in your order and take it back to your place. It’s so good, we took 5 burritos home with us after our ski trip.
We got a tri-tip burritos, pulled pork sandwich and a shake. They were all excellent. It’s just a counter service, so we took them back to the condo for dinner. Great option for a day after skiing when you don’t really want to deal with going out to a restaurant.
Every time we come to Mammoth, stopping at The Smoke Shack is an absolute must. The food is hands down some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had, and there’s truly nothing better than amazing BBQ after a long day on the mountain. The flavors never disappoint, the portions are generous, and it always hits the spot. 10/10!!! a must-eat if you’re up in Mammoth!!
Mark and Harry who run this sick joint are amazing, and the food is wicked good. It matches their hospitality! I am in town for a big Spartan Race weekend and man I’m glad I ended up here. I don’t even have a sweet tooth, but I was craving sweets after my races and man the cookie monster and espresso shakes did not disappoint! Neither did the smoked tri tip burrito and mac n cheese w/ bbq pulled pork. And the homemade potato salad was on point. I highly recommend coming here. Ask Harry for a tourist recommendations and he will hook it up! If I’m in town again, I will 100% be popping by!
Hands down, best food in mammoth! Would even say it’s one of my top 3 bbq spots! I dream of the pulled pork sammy and salted caramel milkshake! The dude who runs this place is super cool too. Everything on the menu is fantastic. Great place to get some smoked meat for an easy dinner! Can’t wait to go back to the mountains for some mammoth smoke shack!

Had the pulled pork sandwich. I’m from the south so I have high standards for BBQ. Pulled pork was tender and juicy, they have a really good bbq sauce. I wasn’t vibing with the sides. I had potato salad and bbq beans. To me they tasted store bought, but that was the only disappointing thing about it. I definitely would eat here again.
I bought the tri-tip burrito. It was good with lots of tri-tip stuffed in it. It really was delicious and didn't hurt my stomach like some places in Mammoth after I ride the mountain bike park all day at the ski area. The price was good for all the meat in it. It just took a little too long to wait for my food. The atmosphere is nice if you look past the busy road. A small cabana for shade and some tables in the sun. I'd recommend it if you like BBQ tri-tip. And there were no fatty prices of meat, just lean beef.
While our visit to Mammoth we visited this place looking at the good reviews it had for shakes and this place didn’t disappoint. We tried the espresso and cookie monster both were amazing but we like espresso more as cookie monster was a little bit sweeter. Will for sure revisit
Decent bbq. Everything else average or below. Pretty inconvenient for an on the go person, expect to wait more than a half hour for a to go box and regular soda can. Seems like a one man show so cant ask for much.
The delicious food sold for a fair price & fair portions mostly make up for the terrible seating options and poor customer service. My group of 5 ordered two quesadillas (choice of red or green salsa), 2 Mac n cheese bowls, and 1 smoked tri tip sandwich. We all REALLY enjoyed our food! If we didn’t finish it there, we took it home for leftovers. We ordered 2 sodas for $2.50 each, and they only have can options. The guy serving us had little to no patience to clarify menu items and made it unnecessarily awkward when he replied “Uhh… I guess?” when I asked if I can add cheese to my tri tip sandwich. Aside from that, there is only one lonely table with an umbrella for shade that only works when the sun is basically at its zenith, since you cannot adjust the height or the angle of the umbrella much… Since the food truck is kinda on the street, you have to walk across a section of road where cars and cyclists drive/ride along. It’s an odd setup, but again the food makes up for all this. If you happen to get a good cashier and get your food to-go, you’ll avoid all my complaints!

I ordered pulled pork sandwich with sides of cole slaw, mac and cheese
On Sunday at around 1:30pm there was no pulled pork available anymore. If there are only two options available (pulled pork or tri-tip) there should be both available - especially at this time of the day. So we had to take the tri-tip sandwich. The sandwich was ok/good. The souce very good but the meat a bit disappointing (not really tender). Coleslaw was also ok. $20 for a sandwich is however overpriced. I had better BBQ sandwiches on our trip for a more reasonable price.
Food was good and had great flavor however, the trintip sandwich I had, the meat was SO tough I could not bite through it. The side were excellent and the bbq sauce on the sandwich was as well. The roll the sandwich was served on was great too...I'd like to go back and try the pulled pork next time
