The Stove Mammoth Lakes Reviews
Came in for breakfast around 11 on a Sunday. 15 min wait. I got skillet and partner got CFS. Highly recommend Bull Mosa (Mimosa with Red Bull) especially since it comes with fresh squeezed oj. Food was great but the service was excellent!
This place is both efficient and tasty. Just as a breakfast place should be. We came here three days in a row and found that they often did better than the wait times quoted. The Stove Special, which combines eggs any style, choice of protein (bacon and ham were standouts), and a choice pancakes, waffle, or French toast is an excellent combo that I wish more places offered. Also the huevos rancheros was delicious with homemade salsa, shredded beef, and a whole green chili.
So glad we stopped here. Cutest little country house antique vibe place. The veggie omelet was delicious with house potatoes. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful with side biscuit for small extra charge. Wait wasn’t too long. Good service just know it’s typically a full house so don’t expect food out in a snap. Definitely check it out.
A comfortable feeling from the moment you walk in, plus the display of their famous home made pies is tempting and impressive. We bought 6 mini pies- to go! For our breakfast we ordered the ‘stove special’ and the 'regular'. The staff was very friendly and welcoming . This was a very good basic 'American' breakfast done very nicely. We enjoyed all of it. Waffles, nice n light. Coffee was good! It was a great way to end our week in Mammoth Lakes. THANK YOU! Definitely returning and recommending. See you next year.
Really good! Not just for mammoth, this is a very good spot for breakfast (and probably for lunch). Service was super fast and friendly, coffee was poured as we sat down and refilled often without asking. Our waitress Courtney was super friendly and on point. Had the prime rib hash which was delicious and a very large portion. My wife had the French toast which was large, fluffy and amazing. This place is a must!!!
Food was excellent. The best way to describe it would be homemade. It didn’t taste like restaurant food at all. Tasted like something your grandma would have made for you growing up. You can’t go wrong eating here.
Always stop at The Stove while in Mammoth. Never disappointed. Family style comfort food with generous portions. Chicken fried steak you can cut with a fork. Best homemade biscuits and best bacon I've ever had at a restaurant. Their cooks really know how to bring it. Fresh made OJ is the bomb! And the staff is always friendly and helpful. Be prepared to wait, tho. It's very popular!
What a wonderful little place! Everything about this place is spot on. The food, the service, the attentiveness, everything. Our food was fresh, and one of the best breakfast places we’ve had yet. The best part of this though was the service. So attentive and caring! If you’re in this area, please give this place a try!
The prime rib hash is a go to at the stove. It's always busy but you get your food quick and it always tastes amazing everytime I've gone there.
One of our favorite breakfast spots in Mammoth. Food is really good and prices reasonable. On the weekends they can get busy so be there before 8am unless you don’t mind waiting.
Fantastic diner food in a historic building. This place serves one of the best breakfasts I have had in CA. I ordered the Sierra Sunrise, which is a skillet of hash browns, ham, onions and peppers, with melted cheese and eggs on top (I recommend a side of sausage gravy to dump on top). Coffee is hot, juice is squeezed fresh and the service is quick and friendly. Get there early to avoid a wait. Food that sticks with you for a long day of driving, hiking or skiing.
Wonderful breakfast - porkchop and eggs for hubby and pancake sandwich for me. So good! You know you are at a great place when the guy at the table next you is a chef at the Westin and comes HERE on his day off! He said the pie was so good he wanted to cry. We left with Two Cutie pies.
Home cooking. We stop for breakfast everytime we're in Mammoth. Biscuits & gravy, pancakes are yummy!
If you’re in town, you have got to grab a bite to eat here. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. The staff is so kind and friendly. I had breakfast here yesterday and a burger today. The Angus Burger is just so perfect. I added sauté mushrooms and thick sliced bacon. This is my new favorite place to gab a burger. 😋
One word: Delicious!!! I can’t remember the last time I had a breakfast as delicious as the one I had here. I never finish my food and I left my plate nearly empty! I ordered the build your own omelette and my oh my soooooo goood!!! The pancakes are also delicious!!!! 10/10 recommend stopping by here for breakfast if you’re in town.
Went on a Wednesday (their sign outside says closed Wednesdays but idk) and it was great! A homey diner where all the servers treat you really well. The food? Well, the portions are large and it's cheap and it fills you up. Besides that though, I'll give it a "hm, not bad". I'd come back here again for some comforting bfast. Food: 6/10 Service: 8/10 Vibes: 6/10 Value: 7/10
I got the French toast and it was everything I wanted it to be. I paid the extra $2 for the real maple syrup, which I recommend. Hot chocolate was also delicious.
The Stove has been serving some of the best breakfast in Mammoth Lakes for years. Their biscuits are soft and flakey and their French toast and pancakes are simply delicious! They have a good breakfast menu with all the staples that you would find in a legitimate diner. So you’ll find whatever you’re craving for breakfast before you hit the slopes or trails. Make sure to order a Bloody Mary, it’s great. The Stove does get pretty busy so make sure you go early.
Really good breakfast, the chicken fried steak was made with a real rib eye steak yummy, the gravy is great and the biscuits with homade jam are well worth it! The prime rib breakfast skillet is awesome the rib was seasoned to perfection great meal!!! Oh and you have to enjoy a glass of fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice its delicious!!! We came up from Las Vegas a place with to many restaurants and this place would hold it's own here!!!! Go you wont be disappointed!!! 😋
A lovely quaint restaurant full of decos and gadgets that embody tradition and its long memory. Service was impeccable and foodwise, wasn’t remarkably tasty or anything like that, but still a decent choice for breakfast / brunch, especially considering all the alternatives around the area. It turned out that the omelette was far better than the famed skillet “Sierra Sunrise” – which was probably just another way of arranging all the ingredients of an omelette, but a poor way, sadly.
This was our families 1st time coming here. The food was fresh and delicious. Our waiter was on point. Definitely will be going back to try different items on the menu. We got there homemade apple pie to bring back to our resort and OMG 😲 😍 it was delicious. We warmed it up in the oven and then put some vanilla ice cream on it. The pie had so much taste to it. Best apple pie we've ever had.
Cute place! With low ceiling and hard wood benches, like a ski cabin. Very popular on a weekday summer morning - good service and delightful menu. Our skillet meals were a good size - not so huge that you couldn't finish them . Chorizo potato skillet was a little dry but nothing salsa can't fix. My son wolfed down the french toast with " house" syrup.
Great and very efficient staff, hearty and comforting portions. Although the place looked busy and packed, wait time was only about 10min even though we were told 20-30, I was hungry and so thankful for that 🙌 my bf got the tuna melt but it was more like cold chunky tuna salad on a toasted bread vs the traditional warm tuna melt and unfortunately his melt came with gritty oversalted fries, he doesn't complain but I saw his face and tried them but it seems like a seldom mistake that sometimes occurs. I had the omelette and potatoes which were all divine. The Mac n cheese was delicious, overall a great experience, can't wait to try more items 🤗
Wonderful breakfast spot with quick and friendly service. All of our food was delicious with the exception of the bacon which was unusually very salty. I had the chorizo scramble myself and it was delightful. Will definitely go back next the I'm in town.
Great place for breakfast. Wide selection of menu items all prepared well and super friendly servers. Haven't tried lunch yet, but hope to.
We absolutely love this place. We always have breakfast here during our Mammoth visits. The service is wonderful. Everyone is very friendly, kind and attentive. There was a total of 7 of us for breakfast. We went on Sunday morning. Our wait was 15 minutes. I ordered the sunrise skillet with a biscuit and it was delicious. The others in our group ordered the breakfast burrito, the stove special, and pancakes. We were all happy with our food and service. We will continue to be customers. The biscuit was amazing, it’s a must have!!!!!
Classic breakfast joint with delicious food. Huge portions (divide the cost by two because you'll be able to skip lunch!). Attentive service and a cozy atmosphere. We were seated immediately and had drinks within 5 minutes. A friend of mine has been coming here for 30+ years, so this place is a traditional for many.
At first my wife and I were a little apprehensive looking at the menu, we went to the stove for breakfast during our anniversary weekend. We usually go for pretty special plates that we don't make at home. We ended up deciding to go to the stove, and we were impressed. Very cool seeing the all the signage celebrating 53 years serving locals and visitors. The food was amazing and the service was immediate. There were gentlemen walking the diner every couple minutes making sure that cups were full (coffee and water). I recommend that if you find yourself in Mammoth lakes, make sure to consider the stove for breakfast.
Wow. Just, Wow! Such amazing food and service. I can’t say enough good things about this place. If you’re looking for the best breakfast in mammoth, this is your place. We had breakfast here twice, and stopped by a 3rd time on our way back home to pick up some mini-pies to take home for us and family. We loved the breakfast so much that we chose this place to go back to on the day of our wedding anniversary. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary with their delicious breakfast. Both times we had: 2 eggs over-hard, 2 turkey sausage patties, crispy bacon, and their house potatoes. The first time we had an English muffin, the second time we had their house salsa and French toast. Both times we had OJ and an Arnold Palmer. The drinks were perfect, with the Arnold Palmer properly made with unsweetened tea. The OJ was spectacular. A perfect blend of tangy and sweet. The bacon was stellar, perfectly thick and crispy but not over-cooked to the point of falling apart. I honestly just sat there for a bit savoring the bacon before eating the rest of the meal. The turkey sausage was wonderfully seasoned and had a great flavor all of its own. The eggs were cooked to perfection, exactly as requested. The English muffin was nicely toasted and buttered, and the jam wasn’t the usual prepackaged jam in little plastic containers. It was served on a plate, not sure if it’s a custom jam they make or what, but it was really good. The cinnamon French toast was great, and the option of having any number of slices we chose was great, this picture shows a single slice. Perfect for sharing without having too much. We chose to upgrade to the real maple syrup, a great choice over the normal maple flavored corn syrup at most restaurants. The real star of the show was their custom potatoes. Not many places do potatoes this style, but they sure nailed it. Just to be clear, these are NOT hash browns, nor are they diced. They are seasoned nicely to have their own flavor, but not so much that it takes away from the potato flavor. And the surprise all-star of this meal was the salsa. It was both delicious and had a surprisingly strong kick to it, that added heat without taking away from flavor. We loved it so much we made room for some of it in our cooler to take home. They really should bottle this salsa and sell it up front like the pies and syrup! As for the pies, they were perfect. We got 2 mini apple and 1 mini cherry. All were excellent, and survived the drive from Mammoth to SoCal quite well. The atmosphere is perfect, down-home country style decor, and the wait staff were all super friendly and very helpful and welcoming. I only wish they were open later in the day for us to have enjoyed them more!
Looking for a breakfast spot in Mammoth Lakes that’ll supercharge your day? Right next to the 250KW Tesla Superchargers, you’ll find a gem that’s as energetic as your EV! Be warned, though—during peak hours, both the parking and the crowd can be tighter than your car's turning radius. But once you're in, it’s smooth sailing! The service is electric, and the food... well, let's just say the portions are large enough to power you through a mountain hike. Oh, and did I mention fresh juices? Because what’s better than charging both yourself and your Tesla at the same time?
Revised, On 7/11/23 Visited today, after getting gutted by the Rainbow Trout at Convict Lake, from 5-9am. I still love The Stove! It's the best breakfast place we've found in Mammoth Lakes. Outside the restaurant is quirky & rustic, with rickety-looking stove sign out front & wooden steps leading inside. Inside continues this theme, with a cast-iron stove greeting you, inside the front door. Antiques & nick nacks from Grandma's home dress up practically every square inch of decorative space inside. The omelettes are killer here, especially The Western Omelette, with everything but the kitchen sink thrown into this 1. I was disappointed with the gravy, that I smothered on my fresh biscuit. Seems different than I remember, with a strange flavor profile. My wife enjoyed her Apricot Preserves on her biscuit. The coffee here is hot & tasty. The employees are constantly brewing it, too. Nearly every time I took my eyes off my whopper of an omelette, someone was constantly making their way by all the booths, refilling anyone's coffee cup, who was running low. Service here was excellent, once again. This place has been quite busy each time we've visited the area, just as it was at 9am, on 7/12/23. Views of the Sierras, from the parking lot here, are spectacular!
We have been to Mammoth a couple of times and this is the first time eating here. There was a lot of people early in the morning. We waiting at least 20 minutes. The place is small, but the food was good. I loved their French toast and their server was really nice. Enjoy my breakfast a lot. They have pie too. We got a cherry and apple. Both were delicious. I can't wait to come back here again.
This place is pretty good, our food came out hot and fresh, our server was nice and I really enjoyed the prime rib french dip w/ zucchini. My boyfriend got the Sierra sunrise skillet and a side of Mac n cheese. Had us full all day ready for our next adventure. Irish coffee is one of my fav so I had to order that and it didn't disappoint. Worth a try :)
I can see why this place is highly recommended. I got the breakfast burrito with prime rib which was enormous but so delicious! I had half for breakfast the next day. I split the French toast with my husband and it was a nice little treat after a long hike. Service was good and food came out quickly. This place is small and has limited parking so I'm sure it gets really busy during peak times.
We love this small, homey restaurant. The food is always good. I especially love the pancakes. The service team is friendly and very efficient. It reminds me of when we used to ski at Mammoth in the 70s and 80s. Like going home.
This is a classic Mammoth place. Great breakfast or lunch. Huge portions, excellent food, great service and a very chill vibe. The perfect place to hit before the slopes.
Best breakfast in town! Brad made us feel right at home, and the service was incredibly welcoming. The food was fresh, the atmosphere was cozy, and it’s clearly a local favorite. We’ll be back!!!
Wonderful home cooking. Really enjoyed my French dip sandwich. Great big portions, country decor, friendly staff. Warm atmosphere and good food I would recommend for any meal. Also stay for the pie it really hits the spot.
Carmen and Freddy are the most amazing servers. I call them friends. Now, let's talk about the amazing food. The breakfasts are truly epic. It is so filling for a great day in Mammoth Lakes!!! The pies too are homemade and mouth watering. Eat here and you will always want to make it a stop when you visit Mammoth.
Went here for breakfast expecting a pretty basic diner meal but wow! Fast, friendly service for starters. We had barely just sat down and we had coffee and water on the table. They have a pretty standard menu but everything was prepared perfectly and served up in generous portions. I would happily return here on my next visit to Mammoth.
There was a wait but it was like a well oiled machine, smooth and fast. The coffee was fresh and yummy. Staff was great with moving around the dining room refilling cups. Portions were nice. The eggs, scrambled perfectly, the bacon was thick and cooked crisp. The French toast was impeccable. Keep up the good work.
We arrived at 7:30 on a Sunday morning to find the place bustling with business, always a good sign! After looking at the menu and reviews I decided I had to try the French toast which I could only describe as amazing. Slightly crispy exterior perfectly cooked interior nothing could Make it any better hands down probably the best French toast I've ever had! My wife got a patty melt and onion rings and while I can't speak for the patty melt gun rings were also amazing and probably some of the best I've ever had. From the staff of front to the waiters and bussers everybody was happy to help and their service was great. Will return anytime I'm in Mammoth.
So I failed to take a picture of my Sierra morning skillet but I have to tell you it was incredible. More importantly the staff there are absolutely awesome people, so much so that even of the food was not awesome i'd go back just to visit. Rare gem with wonderful people. .....oh and the pies are just ridiculous.
This place was great - reasonably priced food, plenty of options, and there's quick service even when they're busy. I got the chicken and waffles special and I really appreciated their homemade Sriracha honey - it was fantastic! Definitely a dish worth trying here. I wish there was less country music, but it's part of the restaurant's theme, so I won't knock them for it.
The breakfast burrito was served piping hot as was the breakfast sandwich. Pancakes were very yummy. Salsa for the burrito was quite good. Would have appreciated a refill on the coffee or at least an ask, but otherwise everything was fine. Worth checking out while in Mammoth.
The Stove is a place that is better in your memory than what it actually is. But it the "Country Cookin" restaurant in town that has been here as long as you, and that is because the food is good (not great), service is quick and portions are large. So what to expect is watered down coffee, large, filling pancakes, large omeletes with potatoes, orange juice from a can, rolls pipping hot served with honey, large booth seating and small tables. Atmosphere has not changed probably since they opened so it is retro now. But if you are going on the slopes and need comfort food, this is the place to go.
We enjoyed our breakfast here towing a trailer there was plenty of parking in the back. The prices were a little on the high side but the quality of food and service was good. Nice colloquial atmosphere
Great place for breakfast! We ordered pancakes and french toast, both were great. Would have liked the french toasts bit more well done though.
Good experience but sadly did not live up to the hype. My food was just way too heavy. I got gravy boat. Husband bad chicken fried steak and it was just ok.
Great hole in the wall breakfast place. I loved the "old school" type of atmosphere and charm. Food was good and worth the visit. This place is probably packed during the busy seasons. We were on a road trip looking for a place near Mammoth for breakfast. It only took 6 minutes to get there from the 395 highway. Definitely a keeper for places to recommend. Would have been 5 stars but there just wasn't enough uniqueness to the food to put it over the top. No complaints at all, but a 5 for me means I need to be really impressed and surprised by the food taste.
Easy parking, rustic country style. Nice looking antique stove at the entrance. You got to see it. Big portions. French toast, Sierra sunrise, chorizo skillet, omelette are all good. Taste like home food. Sausage is salty. I would have given 5 stars but I took one out because I got asked several times for my coffee refill.
This is a very busy and popular and busy brunch place. It is known for their chicken fried steak. It was excellent and crunchy and not overwhelming with the gravy. I had the prime rib hash which was decent with the seasoned hash prime rib bits with potatoes underneath with an egg your style. The staff was very nice and attentive and service was good and the pies looked delicious but I didn't have enough stomach. The atmosphere was lively brunch and the place was bustling. It can be a little cramped but it's cozy and cute.
Stopped by for breakfast and had a great experience. Service was quick, staff was friendly, and the cozy ambiance made it a nice spot to start the day. The food was tasty and satisfying, and they have free parking which is always a plus. It’s located a little away from the main downtown, but definitely worth the short drive.
They have an amazing vegan option: get the veggie burger with no mayo, and replace with cucumber and spinach. I also got fruit and textured vegan protein sauteed (they called it tofu crumble or something but it's TVP). Incredibly tasty 💚 To the owners: I hope you can add the tofu crumble to the menu as I found out it was available only when I asked the server. Label it as textured vegan protein. Vegan / Veg / Vegetarian review 💚☘️
About 30 minutes wait time for a table at 9:30 am. The French toast looked and tasted great, but extremely pricey. Their pies looked appealing, but the price put us off.
The place is a bit small but still very nice. Probably best for smaller groups. The food was delicious and came out very fast . The server was great and attentive. Smile on them the whole time which was nice. The only reason for the 3 stars is the fact that we basically got kicked out because they wanted one of our tables for another group. Wasn't even 10 minutes after finishing our meals. So it wasn't as we were just sitting there for a long time not eating or drinking. Didn't even have the time to process or enjoy another cup of coffee. I've never been rushed out from a place to accommodate another group like that.
We were in town for our near annual trek to the Mammoth Jazz Festival and decided to try a new place for breakfast. It's very noisy but there were families and groups, so the energy was fun The service was friendly and prompt, so I gave an extra star for that, however the food was disappointing and VERY expensive. I ordered the Sierra Sunrise which arrived raw. Literally cold and raw. The cheese never even melted. It also cost $17.50, not the $12.50 on the current menu. My side of bacon was $7.95, not the $4.95 on the current menu. My husband's breakfast wrap (with no sides) was just ok - very dry and it also had an inflated price. We had 2 coffees and an OJ to drink - a standard, diner breakfast for two was a whopping $65 before tip. I'm down for supporting small restaurants and even paying a bit more, especially for a good meal, but I left supremely disappointed in the food and now that I see the regular prices, I'm even more disappointed. I can't recommend this place and can't imagine returning.
Today I have a chance to check “The Stove” and how they cooking. When you get inside you can feel like in grandma’s kitchen, it’s make nice vibe. Concept of this restaurant is really cool, BUT food was not soo good. Food was salty and soo oiled. I don’t like complaining but here probably you can’t eat well. Maybe chef had a bad day or something. Guy with 🧢 didn’t even say hello, nothing, threw menu on table and that’s it. Maybe I will give them another chance, will let you know ✌️ for now only 3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Nothing truly special here. Portions were large but quality was avergae. Pancakes my son has looked soggy not fluffy, my burger was pretty standard, fries not crispy. Service was rushed, they drop your check with your food..I think there are better places to eat but the place was packed. Nothing horrible just nothing special.
It’s really shocking that this dinner gets such good reviews. Youll pay $20 for two eggs, a small amount of potatoes and a cup of coffee. For this price I expected a lot more. Seating is terrible - straight up wood benches. Go to the breakfast club down the street it’s way better.
⭐ 0 Stars if possible! This was the worst service I’ve experienced in a restaurant. The young guy at the front desk had an irresponsible tone and dismissive attitude toward guests. When I arrived, I clearly requested outdoor seating because we had a dog, and was told it would be about a 20-minute wait. After nearly 40 minutes, we were called for indoor seating — not what we requested. Then, after 50 minutes of waiting, two outdoor tables opened up, but the host said they “weren’t clean” and that the busser would clean them “when he can.” They didn’t have any proper system to manage guests — no text alerts, no orderly process — just everyone crammed into the small lobby while the host shouted out names when it was your turn. Completely unorganized, understaffed, and indifferent to customer requests. Feels like a tourist trap with zero regard for hospitality.
My husband and I came here for lunch last weekend when we were in town. I really wish this wasn’t a negative review, but the food just wasn’t good and not at all worth the price. Our bill was a little over $50 and what we ordered was a coffee, a soda and two entrees. I got a very greasy, tough-to-chew country fried steak and my husband had an omelette that had big uncooked chunks of bell peppers and the eggs were watery and not cooked all the way through inside. I asked my husband if he’d like to let the waitress know but we decided against it as they were near closing. We barely ate half of each of our orders. Our waitress was friendly, pleasant and prompt so no issues there.
