Meritage at Callaway Meadows Reviews
I ordered a seafood pasta, which I paired with a crisp white wine. The combination was absolutely delicious! The pasta was perfectly cooked, with a rich, flavorful sauce that perfectly complemented the fresh seafood. The wine was a delightful accompaniment, enhancing the overall experience. Adding to the enjoyment was the breathtaking view, which made the entire dining experience truly memorable. It was a truly satisfying meal that I would highly recommend.
Beautiful views of the vineyard while you dine! We came here with friends and made an early reservation. We were seating right away and the service was quick and the server was very friendly. The food was cooked perfectly; however, you definitely need salt. I ended up trying both types of lamb and each were prepared so differently.
My husband surprised me with a trip to Temecula this past Sunday. Wow, wow, wow! Everything about the vineyard and restaurant is extraordinary. Very romantic vibe and gorgeous views of the hills and vineyards. The food was quite delish and the service was A1! There is a greenhouse and garden on site which explains the freshness and food quality. My husband and I loved their Port as well as their Bella Blanc. One of my new favorite places in California.
The Meritage at Callaway Vineyard & Winery has an excellent menu with a variety of options to choose from. We started with the crab cake appetizer and the Callaway "Special Selection" muscat canelli which our server Don recommended. If you don't enjoy sweet wines, this selection isn't for you. Did I mention that the view overlooking the vineyards was stunning? What's Tuesdays with the tacos? We ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos with a side salad and it paired nicely with our wine choice. Then to top it off, Don came over with a Tiramisu dessert for my birthday which was not requested so I'm grateful for his gesture. Food was excellent with service to match so if you're looking for a good place to eat in Temecula wine country, give Meritage a try. We'll definitely be back.
I absolutely love the pear-flavored rose champagne combined with the curry mussels. The curry jus was delicious and the mussels were covered with shaved coconut. Highly recommended!
I had my sons rehearsal dinner there, June 23 2023. What a great job that your servers did what professionals, including the chef are.The food was fantastic. They told me that the chef had some new items that he was just starting to. try out, the pesto/macaroni , calamari, mixed vegetables, all wonderful, and the chicken breasts were also terrific. I can’t forget the sunset views phenomenal Thank you very much! Randy

What a gem in Temecula! Sierra in the tasting room was fantastic and Ashley at the Meritage restaurant was phenomenal. Great wines, service, and fun!
5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The views here are absolutely amazing — the sunset, the winery, the whole place is simply beautiful. Since dining is outdoors, it was a bit hot, but that’s to be expected. The steaks were overcooked, but overall, the atmosphere, the location, and the service were excellent. Definitely a must-stop if you’re visiting Temecula. Appreciate the great experience!

I wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, it was a hot day, (A Monday afternoon) and the few ceiling fans were not doing a great job of cooling the restaurant. I had the strawberry chicken salad which was delicious, and a glass of sparkling wine that wasn’t very good. The view was somewhat blocked by the wall. The seats were uncomfortable, no cushions. The service was excellent.
I came here for my Father's Day celebration and by this place meets my expectations in scenery, style, and atmosphere. The customer service was very well pleasing and the appetizers were amazing... The crab cakes were awesome and a must have! The plate I had an acquired taste to it so I'll have to try a different dish the next time I go to redeem myself. Other than that the vineyard scenery, the entire place overall is a great spot for a date, get together, business, etc. Great job Meritage!
Pleasantly surprised! Made reservations around sunset and it was worth it!! Food was cooked well and presentation was on point. Money worth spent and wasn't too crazy expensive. Service was excellent and attentive in the right way. It wasn't crowded so probably why it everything was on point. The Lamb Shank was buttery and fall-off-the-bone good. Duck was well-cooked and not over done. Dessert was a great way to end too. Not overly sweet and good composition. Hope it's like this the next time we visit!
We went for Lunch on a Tuesday- Burgers with a view! Relaxing and Quiet. Tasty mustard pulled pork sandwhich and a Burger. Quick service
I definitely enjoyed the tapas and small bites they had. We had the tacos and the salad. Both were well done. I liked the kick of the spices on the tacos. I believe it is a fairly good restaurant considering it is based inside the winery.
FAB-U-LOUS views, delicious food, and the wine paired with it was just right. My only real complaint, was the automatic 18% tip as we were a party of 10, even though our bills were as 5 couples. The waiter would have made more from us individually were it not for this automatic policy.

Had lunch there and the views and seating are so beautiful. We were seated immediately and the staff was so friendly and attentive. The food was just average though. Who doesn't get a charcuterie board with wine? Good variety of meats and cheeses. Hummus was good too. For entrees, the duck leg was dry, the pesto pasta was a bit oily. The presentation of oven roasted chicken made me wish I ordered it although once we tasted it, it was kinda dry. If you do decide to order it, it's a big portion so consider sharing it. It's a great place to have lunch though when wine tasting just for the views.
The ambiance at Meritage is peaceful with a nice view. I think the suggested wine pairing on the menu is spot on. Before I repaint my experience with the main dish, let me say that the Bone Marrow appetizer was one of the best I ever had. Period. About the black cod special and the pork chop though, we were very disappointed. Focusing only on the "proteins" (at least 30$ a piece), and first on the cod: the skin was not very crispy and the meat a bit gluey at the center. I found many bones and the center was not as flaky as expected. The center was of the wrong texture, like melted cheese. About the pork chop, it was well seasoned but unfortunately dry. Everyone understands why this must be a disappointment. Both plates were however well garnished, with fresh vegetables.

Horrible let down after a lovely wine tasting. Oxtail was tough and unseasoned, octupus was tougher than leather shoes. Meatballs were dry. Take the wine tour and do the tasting but save your money and eat in a restaurant that knows how to prepare food and not desecrate it.
We went for a wine tasting and tour and decided to have lunch at their restaurant since the staff member, Dave — who provided the wine tour — recommended it. Unfortunately, the host was very rude and didn’t even say hello or goodbye, especially surprising given that the restaurant wasn’t busy for a Saturday lunch. The waitress and other staff were friendly, but the hostess needs some customer service training. Overall, the food was great, but the service was subpar.

I don't take pleasure in writing a bad review for Callaway, as we're locals that used to like it. However, I think it's necessary so they can hopefully do better. Despite the recent mixed reviews, we decided to take a chance based on our past experience dining there. End result: The food *looks* good, but the flavor doesn't match up to the taste. Bland recipes with bad execution, unfortunately. If you just want a view and a glass of wine, it's great. We asked for an available window table. The hostess told us we couldn't have a window seat because our party of 4 needed to be at least 5 for that table. However, throughout the whole meal, nobody with a party of 5 came and that seat remained empty the whole lunch hour (See empty seating photo.) I ordered a light flatbread as a starter, to test how the food would be. Boy am I glad I got something small. It looked great, but it was seriously the worst flat bread I've ever had! It was as tough as cardboard. I shared a bite with the table and everyone was in disbelief that it was let out of the kitchen. No exaggeration - it was inedible and tough! I had to saw through it with my knife. To their credit, they acknowledged it was bad, took it back and off the bill. My mother ordered the muscles with broth. Even though it looked bright, like it would have flavor, it was very bland with hardly any taste. My father ordered the short ribs with mash. There was so much mash with short ribs that simply tasted like pot roast. Not much flavor at all. Wouldn't you think a short rib dish at a winery would have a nice flavor of... wine? It was blah, average at best. The waiter took the cost of the flat bread and asked if I'd like to order something else. Frankly, when you mess up something so simple, I don't have confidence you can get more complex dishes right. We left our dishes unfinished, didn't order wine as we usually would and left. That was an expensive meal for less than fast food satisfaction. It still has a great view, so if you come by for a glass of wine on the patio, you should be fine. To Callaway management - Please do better. We miss how it used to be.
Excellent ambiance and service but food is disappointing, especially for the price. We got with the beet salad, mushroom appetizer and cheese plate. The beet salad was bland and tasted like water chestnuts instead of beets. Unfortunately, the mushroom appetizer was very bland and had zero flavor. The cheese plate was better but needed fruit to compliment it. Not sure I would recommend if looking for good food.

I've lived here for years and dined at this restaurant many times over the years. It's been awhile and saw a prime rib prix fix special on Friday night. Cool! Made a reservation for hubs and I. When we arrived at 630, restaurant was empty, except for 1 other table. Should have been a sign. We were seated, beautiful view of the vineyard. Our server although very friendly, had no idea about the prime rib special, nor was he knowledgeable about their wines. It's a WINERY, people. Ordered a couple glasses which were corked. I could tell right away the color was off. Let him know, he agreed, yeah that bottles been open for awhile! Asked repeatedly if an end cut was available, had to remind him at least 3-4 times to please check. Manager Sam came over, gave us a great wine recommendation on the house (thank you) and he agreed the original wine we were served was bad, he took one whiff and knew immediately. Brussels sprouts appetizer was very spicy with a Sriracha type sauce. In my opinion, it didn't match the prime rib, but maybe that's just my taste. The courses were all served in a timely manner. When the prime rib arrived (yes we did get one end cut), it was slathered with gravy! What!? I've never seen prime rib with gravy, usually au jus and done horseradish on the side. Huge portion. It was cold. Room temperature, like it had been sitting there on the counter since we arrived. I'm not usually one to send food back but please just warm it. Once I scraped off the gravy it was fine. Little roasted potatoes and asparagus spears that were good. Ordered cheesecake for dessert, tasted like it had been in the refrigerator for weeks. Hostess kept wanting to raise the blinds so the sun was blaring in my eyes, attitude, eyes rolling when I asked her to lower it. It's a sheer shade, we could still see the vineyard view, which is beautiful especially at sunset. This restaurant promotes a fine dining experience. It was not that. It was over $200 which isn't crazy expensive but enough where I should enjoy myself! Oh and by the way, I was up sick all night as soon as we got home. So thanks for that little bonus! Do better.
