Spindini Memphis Reviews
I'd walked past Spindini before, while strolling S. Main, but hadn't been in until a recent twist of fate drove us into her capable hands. Pontotoc was closed, Pearl's Oyster House had a kitchen malfunction, and I was taking my two girlfriends out for their birthdays- dinner and Kinky Boots at the Orpheum. Just a 2 block walk from the MLGW parking garage- we popped our heads in on a Sunday night at 5:30, and they had plenty of space for us. The room is long, narrow, and dark, but doesn't feel small. Decor is handmade glass sculpture and lights, very clean and chic. We appreciated a wine list with options, though two of us ordered whisky. Pappy for my friend, and Glenlivet for me both arrived with a huge ice cube inside, hand made with airless ice that doesn't seem to melt. Our server, Josh, brought the calamari with marinara as well as a lemon aioli (to die for), and our crab cakes, loaded with fresh bell peppers, and so fresh they didn't even smell like crab! These are large, sharing portions. For dinner, we all shared the eggplant rollatini (crisp and not greasy but very cheesy) with a rich sweet tomato sauce, lasagna (which we all agreed was too much meat-pork italian sausage and beef- and not enough pasta or sauce), and the white pizza, which was maybe all of our favorite. For dessert we all had a second drink and shared a Manhattan creme brulee', lightly infused with a citrus and bourbon flavor, with cherries baked inside. It was fantastic! Josh, our server took several photos for us and was very professional. Polite, helpful, patient, and quick. I will certainly be back with my husband for another Orpheum date night- in fact, I can't wait!
We attended a company Christmas party here as a private event. Very nice venue, so I imagine it would be no different when open to the public. The staff were all very nice and attentive. The food was delish! The fried ravioli..oh my foodie heaven, was it good! We definitely plan to revisit as regular patrons!
Everything was great. Service, food, atmosphere. Will definitely come back.
Amazing food and friendly service for a price that's totally worth it. Amazing desserts.
The lobster bacon pizza is amazing! Has the perfect amount of heat with the chipotle aioli.
Great food, great entertainment and great service! Eggplant rollitini was phenomenal!
Great dining experience and choice for Valentine's. 💕
My son had his girlfriend surprised birthday / proposal at Spindini. This place is beautiful n romantic. When my son n I checked it out before the big day, I was impress. The manager Mark was very polite, helpful n professional. He informed us where we would be seated for the party n he said kids are welcomed ( but no kids menu is available), no problem they had pizza on the menu that solved that problem. He informed us we would get two waiters of our own. When I say, the whole staff was wonderful, it was above and beyond professional. Mark, even informed my son that they would take the Birthday cake for him if it was delivery early. I really need to say, this spot is really romantic n if u want to make a great gesture with your sweetie ( male or female) this is the spot. They had a live jazz band playing. With good music. Please try this place out. Spindini had a good selection of mix drinks n wine. They also have non-profit alcoholic beverages too. When I say their food was Great - OMG!!! OMG!! OMG!!!, I had the lobster n bacon pizza, my sister had the seared duck, my mom had a dish with different sausages ( I can't remember the name right now). When I tell you I tried everyone dish n was impress that every dish was seasoned n brought to us hot right out the oven and with everyone dish right behind each other. No one had to wait on a dish. When I say, I was impress. It was above n beyond great service. I advise everyone to go n try this place out, I promise it would be worth it. (Please forgive me for not taking pix, this day was busy ).
Natasha was the best waitress ever! Such a fun date night spot in downtown memphis. A swanky electronic jazz performer played while we ate. Fantastic art on the walls and free bread :) Had the lobster and bacon pizza and it was bomb. So bomb. Worth splitting! Five out of five stars!!!
Excellent Italian food and drinks. When I say excellent, I mean great food coupled with an amazing atmosphere. Another great place for date nights. They have wood fired oven pizzas which are my favorite.
Went for dinner before an evening at the Orpheum. Natasha was wonderful and very helpful helping us pick out the perfect Italian red to go with dinner. The ambience was great with a jazz trio playing in the background. We had manicotti and the duck for dinner and both were fabulous! Will definitely be heading back.
We had a great server named Sydney. She was fast with everything the food, drinks, check. She made us feel so welcomed. The atmosphere was was amazing. Certainly will be back for the great service and excellent food.
I had the red snapper. It was very tasty, hot and fresh. The calamari was seasoned and fried well. It comes with marinara sauce and a tarter sauce. No complaints here. If you try it, you won't be disappointed.
We were happy to find a kitchen open late (until 9:30) on a Monday within walking distance of Amtrak at Central Station. Lovely setting, relaxed atmosphere, not busy, friendly and attentive server. Bonus - pizza specials on Monday nights! Two people split one wedge salad (excellent even though it had few tomatoes) and one pizza, and had a very satisfying meal. Thank you!
The King Salmon was fantastic! Dining area has a very relaxed vibe to it with soft music. Menu is very organized and easy to read. Service was out of this world. They have their own parking lot so you don't have to park on the street and you're just a couple blocks from Beale St. 10/10 would recommend to anybody and will definitely be going back when I come back to Memphis!!
This was our first visit to Spindini and we really enjoyed it! We went on a Friday night and got there fairly early (shortly before 6:00) so we were able to be seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! The baked manicotti was very good and everyone else in our party seemed to enjoy their selections as well. It was a little dark/dim in there so it is more of a date restaurant and not so much of a family place. There were some large groups there having holiday parties so it did get a little loud once they all arrived and was difficult to have a conversation in our small group of 4 without feeling like we had to yell. Overall we enjoyed it though and would go back.
The food was great but the fruit flies were a little out of control at the bar.
This is a great place to get a good meal, to see, and be seen. Their Monday night half-off pizza and wine special is a big draw. The Tuscan Butter (ricotta fondue served with focaccia bread) is divinely decadent. They have a few operational issues when you're checking in to be seated, which is the only reason I give it four stars instead of five.
True rating is 3.9. Atmosphere is great. Wine list is not extensive, but it had a few interesting choices in addition to the standards. Food was good. Service was inattentive, and made rookie mistakes. However, that is representative of a new server and shouldn't deter one from patronage.
I ate here about a week ago. I enjoyed the food and it was an elegant setting. When my man and I arrived no one was available to seat us so we just sat ourselves. The waitress was very friendly. The menu is pricey. The drink was good but could have been bigger for the price. Overall I enjoyed my visit and plan to come again.
This place is a bit of a conundrum - great decor, good ambiance, but there's paper on the tables and let's be real, their wine list could use some work for an upper-scale Italian joint. However, on the weekends, there's always an amazing jazz trio playing and they make up for the bad paper covered tables and average menu. I recommend their charcuterie board and the pizzas are where they excel. Their apps are pretty good... Overall 3 stars but 4 stars for their fantastic jazz band.
We've always enjoyed the food here. The ambience is romantic with low lighting, but its also great for after work hangouts. Sometimes the food, although good can be a little bland, just add salt and it will be perfect. The prices are a bit expensive, but won't break the bank. Expect to drop at least a Ben for two with food and drinks, afterall, it is downtown. I'd highly recommend this place. All I can say is lobster pizza!
We enjoyed a quiet Sunday evening dinner, chicken parm was excellent, as was the Caesar salad and cheesecake. The place is kind of eclectic, with paper on the tables and no matching silverware, but the music playlist was a good one and our waitress didn't rush us through the meal.
Visited today for Easter 🐣 dinner. Food is good, we wanted to seat in the patio area like on the sidewalk it was not a good idea, despite the weather was good to seat outside , but the smell of urine was disgusting, I have a very sensitive nose, and with a lot of homeless people living around the area I guess is just like that everywhere you go 🤷🏻♀️. We ended up sitting inside, waitress were very nice and all the staff in general. Food was good. Maybe a good cleaning with a hose and soap might help the smell outside, but I don't think is going to last. Just saying 😌
My 1st time here. It was ok. It didn't amaze my taste buds. Pesto was kinda bland because of not having more sauce. The lasagna wasn't cheesy or seasoned enough for me.
It is a good place to go for a different experience. I think it has slipped in quality and service, but still a good place to have a meal and wine. We went there this past week before the show at the Orpheum. I would not make a trip down town to eat there, but if you are in the area. Good spot
The spaghetti would have been great had it been hot when served. the bread was very crusty, the salad wedge was good but needed to get the brown lettuce off before serving. Shrimp appetizer was great but heavy on spice! It was okay needs to improve for us to return.
This is a small-plate restaurant, however, I don't think they market it. It's semi-expensive and the portions are small. I liked what I ordered and the drinks were good. It's a quiet, low-key, white table-cloth restaurant in the heart of Memphis. It was a convenient walk to the Orpheum.
Eats like Diner Italian, over unexciting, bland. Ambiance isn't even "Italian American", a bit dark. Was disappointed in the stale store baught croutons in the classic ceaser. The menu appears as though they serve classic or traditional dishes... It's not. Bolognese is just a ground beef sauce, could be good for kids. Noodles were a bit overdone. Manicotti was very sweet, both in sauce and meat. Lots of cheese, but if you wanted cheese just get a pizza. Wine list is a bit dull.
We ordered from spindini through door dash last night. When our order arrived we were short one lasagna entree. The lasagna was $18 each. Caesar salad was $9 and we expected a large full sized salad. It was the size of a side salad. I called them and since they were short staffed they could not deliver the other entree. They said they would have door dash refund the missing entree. We likely will not use them again in the future as we feel their food is a bit over priced for what you actually get.
We had a reservation at 9 they close at 10, we got there at 830 and they seated us and we started eating. At 920 the server brought us the check when we asked for a dessert menu she then proceeded to tell us the kitchen had already closed and we would have to come back on another day to get dessert. The food was good but not the best and, the paper on the table was a bad idea it looked tacky. We will not be coming back.
Nasty attitude from our server, average Italian food and a feeling of unorganization from this restaurant made for an underwhelming experience for this out of towner. We grabbed an open bar seat and ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and salad, which were small portioned for the price. The bartender Johnny who waited on us was arguing with fellow employees and mad about something as he was shoving drinks around angrily. Several drinks are spilling into my dinner... no apology or sense of care. We won’t go back.
The food was okay, but so overpriced considering the quantity. I expect an up-market restaurant to serve small portions because the emphasis is on quality and creativity, but neither apply in this case. Also, our party was seated in the bar taking advantage of happy hour drinks. The waitress was very insistent that we be seated in the dining room as soon as possible. When we finally obliged, we were quickly informed that happy hour pricing was no longer valid because we were now seated in the dining room. Happy hour was going on for at least another hour and everyone in our party was convinced we were moved just to increase the size of our bill. We would have been okay with this had we been given an opportunity to consent and had there been a wait, but the restaurant was barely 10% full (if that). I suppose everyone has already learned what we did during our visit. I will not be returning.
I really expected to have a great time and to get a good meal but what we got was not great. The server seemed as if she didn't want to be there. Despite taking notes as we ordered, the waitress kept coming back to ask what we ordered. The bar was out of many brands of what we ordered and the food was sub-par, including the brown lettuce head that was offered as a cobb salad. A manager walked over to check on us but when we responded, she simply walked away without acknowledging the situation. There were 3 couples eating. We won't be back!
The restaurant is very nice looking. We had a reservation for 20 people. The service was horrible. We arrived at 6:15 ordered drinks. Then ordered appetizers it took forever. They came out after 8. Then around 8:30 some of our food came out but not everyone’s. Some of our party didn’t even enjoy their food. We still got charged. When we were leaving around 9 1 persons food still essential out. Very very poor service. I will never go back here again.
First and foremost for a place that requires reservations, it didn’t uphold the that same quality of that type of an establishment. The quality of the food was poor in comparison to the prices. Granted it’s an assumption, but I assume that the food has to be store bought based off of the freezers with frozen food stored at the door upon entry. We also have pork restrictions and was told it couldn’t be substituted due to the entree was pre-made. (We have even ordered yet) The crab cake looked like they were frozen then rolled in crunched golden flakes, the veggies weren’t the worst but it could’ve been better. This was most definitely a bad overpriced experience. Most definitely wouldn’t return. Very TV dinner vibes.
This is the worst “lasagna” I’ve ever had. Just had this food delivered from UberEats. The lasagna, if that’s what you can even call it, is missing tomato sauce, it appears to have been constructed after cooking the ingredients separately, not baked. There is about a table spoon full of ricotta cheese in the whole thing and it doesn’t even taste good. Not only that but it cost $20!!! I don’t understand how this place has as high of a rating as it does.
What can I say this is a disaster and a embarrassment place to eat lunch. The rudeness of the male waiter made us feel like u less we are of Caucasian origin, we will not be greeted or served. Me and my girlfriend went there today for lunch today. And the waiter seen us and didn’t even speak. He just quickly walked to the back kitchen. So I gave him a few minutes. He came back served the two tables who was waiting for food. And then him and the cook walked to the back of the building. Idk if it was a smoke break or they have mushy time breaks. So after waiting for ten minutes we left. I would never ever give this place my money or support as a small business downtown. My next step is to file a complaint on their website and with the BBB.
Seat Yourself - Bad Service - Long Wait for No Food! We walked in and saw very few people in the restaurant but decided to try it out anyways. After standing for 10 minutes with no acknowledgement, we found a table and waiter soon came over for drinks/our order. After ordering 1 pizza and 1 bowl of spaghetti, we waited for 45 minutes with no status that our food was on the way or even coming out soon. We waited enough and decided to pay for the wine at the bar. The manager did not apologize and used the excuse the kitchen was slammed with Uber orders. With being one of the first tables there, I thought they would have their priorities in order. Clearly not! Good luck if you go...
I'm Italian and don't recommend this restaurant at all. Not real Italian food. Raviolis were "fried" ...pizza was burned. Service was terrible! Waiter did not pour the $38 btle wine, did not serve the pizza in our plates, left it all there for us to do it! Did not pickup dishes from entrées. No cappuccino and reg coffee was awfull! brought wrong number of coffees while all other plates were left on the table. Overpriced for what we had. No tips left! Nightmare in Memphis.
Looking at the reviews, this place seems to be hit or miss. Tonight was definitely a miss. Terribly slow service, cold food and I had to go get the silverware myself after requesting some, seeing the server come by twice and not acknowledge us. Tables around us, that were seated before us were waiting until after we left for their food. Unacceptable
Awful experience the hostess Lori had the most unprofessional conduct I had ever experienced. She had the audacity to argue with me as a customer. If I was the owner I would have escorted her off of my promises. She gave false information about them being booked only to observe at least 6 tables opened at the same time within a 2 hr period. Need new staff immediately if they plan to stay an open establishment.
AWFUL!!!! Worst restaurant experience of my life! Spent $120 and salmon was over cooked, Brussels sprouts were hard as a rock, mixed drink was warm, and creme brulee was obviously pre madeand stored in fridge. We drove 3 1/2 hours and looked for an Italian place with creme brulee special. Needless to say it was a complete letdown! Told the waiter very nicely and almost none of the two salmon plates were eaten. He came back to the table and offered a 15% discount. When we got the bill $3.90 was taken off the total of over $105! We will never come back. Food is not the quality they want you to pay for, and management seems uninterested in listening/helping. It ruined our much anticipated special night.
This place use to have great. Not Sure what happened tonight server says never had a table this larger and she was 19. Ordered Tito's and Soda and told no Cheetoes and Soda available. Dinner went south fro. There food never arrived told it went to other table and we should have caught mistrake. Spindini best days are far behind them.
o many better restaurants in South Main. This one is not worth it. We made reservations 2 weeks ago through their website and had an email confirmation. When we arrived on time, we were told by the hostess that they didn't have our reservation down and didn't have a table for us. She suggested we could "just wait for 2 hours until a table was ready or..." We asked to speak to a manager. After 15 minutes, she came by and said they were preparing a table. 45 minutes after we arrived we finally were seated. We waited another 10 for water, 20 for silverware. We barely received an apology. This is the last time we will ever eat here.
Well.....the food was good. We came in to order appetizers. When I walked in, it took 5 minutes before someone greeted me. I finally snagged a seat at the bar. I will say, they were busy, but it probably took another ten minutes for our order to get taken. After placing an order for three appetizers at 645, they finally came out at 735. The food was good, but the service was bad. Be careful if coming here in a peak time.
I won't be back. After adding up my bill i realized that gratuity was added without my knowledge. The waitress ened up making a 30 dollar tip after less than stellar service. I took my friend for her birthday. The decor was nice but the food was lacking. The Caesar salad was served on a tea saucer but flavor was ok. We both ordered the salmon and I was disappointed that it's was a pressed piece of frozen fish. Very thin and very dry. For 26 bucks per dinner, I felt a little cheated. The flavor was good but it was extremely overcooked. The waitress was was sweet but super slow and never bothered to ask how things were or if we were happy. At the end of the night, I realized I could've spent the same amount ($80 + $27 tip) at Itta Bena and had a way better food experience. Read your bill carefully.
The food and wine was delicious as usual. The waitress was a bit odd. She wasn’t familiar with the wine we asked for although we order this wine all the time. She laughed at our wine request and kept saying that she had never heard of it instead of asking a manager. She then went to the bar to tell other waitresses about our request and started to laugh again. When we left, she proceeded to leave the restaurant to go to her car. She then started to yell curse words and other bad things towards our direction then threw up her middle finger. I didn’t get her name but she was a white, kind of chubby girl with blonde hair worn in a bun.
Went in on Saturday night and service was painfully slow. We waited 15-20 minutes to have someone just take our order. We ended up leaving without ordering. Musicians that night were great jazz musicians though.
On Saturday night, two friends and I wanted to have a drink on an outside patio and went to Spindini's and specifically asked them if it was okay if we could just order drinks. The inside of the restaurant was completely empty except for maybe two tables, and there were about ten tables on their patio. They said "yes," and the waitress came over fairly quickly to take our orders. Now, it was 8:10 when she took this order - we were all aware of the time because my friends had told their babysitter they'd be back home at a specific time - and we ordered a single malt scotch, a glass of rose, and my own order, which was initially a shot of Van Winkle. The waitress then informed me that although the menu said a shot was $16, it was actually $98 and so did I still want it. I didn't bother mentioning that it was problematical to give false advertising, nor did I mention that a shot of Pappy's cost $20 at A Second Line. I simply asked if the price listed for a shot of George Handy Sazerac was accurate, and she said it was. So we all ordered, and again, it was 8:10 when she took our order. At 8:30, we still didn't have our drinks, and went over to the waitress to ask if they were coming, and she replied in a rather annoyed tone, "they're on their way." At 8:40, she came back to our table and placed ONE drink down, then explained that "the reason you've been waiting so long is because we're out of the George Handy and the rose." Dumbfounded, my friend then asked for a glass of white wine, and I asked for a bottle of Heineken, as I was admittedly pissed off and I figured Heineken was a safe bet. At 8:55 we STILL didn't have our order of white wine and a Heineken, and my friends had to get back home. So literally, we waited 30 minutes to get ONE of our three drinks, and 45 minutes total before - without the other two drinks - we simply had to leave. While the waitress apologized when taking our payment for our ONE drink, it needs to be noted the managers NEVER came out to apologize - something they really should have done - nor did we get our one drink comped, which - again - we really should have. It was an absolutely unprofessional experience on their part that they treat their customers this way, and for what it's worth, I strongly advise against ever going to this establishment.
