Captain's Tavern Restaurant Miami Reviews
The Captain's Tavern will not disappoint. As an extremely popular restaurant, you will likely wait a bit before being seated, but the selection, quality and preparation are top notch. The wait staff are very friendly, conversational and knowledgeable and can assist you with all questions you may have. You will find the prices to be above average, but you get what you pay for and the daily fresh arrival and filleting of their fish can't be beat. Do not miss an opportunity to dine at this incredible family owned restaurant, you won't regret it! Bon appetit!
The Calamari and the Basalamic Faroe Salmon were both cooked to perfection. The FILET MIGNON was tough to cut and to chew.
Excellent service. Reasonable prices. Good vibes and great food!
I was shocked to see that this place had an average rating of 3.5. I've lived so close to this restaurant and this is my first time here. The interior is absolutely amazing. It transported me back in time to my younger years. I'm not a seafood fan but the family is so I'll take one for the team. The restaurant did not smell like a fish house. The waiter (Anthony) was absolutely great. He was very honest and took his time explaining all the dishes and their accompanying sides. We ordered Churrasco, Trout, Lobster & Oysters. All the food was fresh, delicious and large serving size. We loved the atmosphere and decor. We have to come back for crab season. Well done Captains Tavern!!!! We'll definable be back.
Excellent and elegant venue. Friendly and helpful staff. Tasty food. I will come back.
WOW! The best seafood restaurant in Miami I ever experienced!!! Restaurants like this are extinct in Miami. A typical old-school restaurant that does everything right, from A to Z. Starting with the waiter, Nick. He made us feel like a friend from the moment we arrived. He passionately explained how they do things at Captain, and we were impressed. They serve fresh local seafood, and if they bring something like from Maine, they also assure that the seafood is fresh and rapidly shipped. I have to stress that the PRICES ARE CRAZY ATTRACTIVE for what they offer!!! Even the bottles of wines are super affordable! For appetizers, we had Lobster Nuggets and Stuffed Mushrooms — delicious! The entree we had the 1/2 lb Caribbean Lobster Tail. $34!!!! Insane!!!! It was served deshelled, which is convenient. Also, Nick told us they have a crazy sushi chef who only picks center-cut fish and goes to the market himself and is super passionate about it. So we ordered the Dragon roll, and it was great! It was only $10!!! I still don’t believe it! For the dessert, Nick recommends Bread Pudding w/ Jamaican Rum Sauce… WOW, what a delicious bomb that was! Mouthwatering!!! Last but not least, they make everything in-house, all the way down to the sauces. They also have a seafood market building next by, so that explains everything. Even the bus boys were exceptionally on top of everything. All in all, I am so happy I found a legit seafood restaurant that has quality seafood for an affordable price, plus service that is extinct in Miami and a good atmosphere overall! A MUST WHEN IN MIAMI!!!!!!!!!!
What can I say? Ambience is very nice. A cozy nautic theme setup, with fishtanks all over. Food quality is excelent. One of the best seafood restaurants in South Florida (Considering there are hundreds of them). Staff service is very good, not so quick, but nice and efficient.
The place is good as is the food and customer service. We received our food in a reasonable time and everything was excellent and delicious. I recommend it to share with family or friends. It also has a children's menu. If you are in the Miami area you must visit this place.
👍🏻👍🏻Excellent restaurant so glad we found this place for our Wedding Anniversary. The Main🦞Lobster Special, Seafood Risotto and the Creme brûlée were exquisite. 🤤A must go. Customer service was excellent and ambiance classy. We will be definitely coming back and will recommend this restaurant to our family and friends. 😃
I would highly recommend this place. Food was delivered in a timely manner. The vibe is pretty chill. Be mindful, place was completely full when we went (it was a Tuesday). Since it was just two of us, and we were celebrating our anniversary, we were lucky enough to be seated right away. I had the 8oz lobster tail and it was the best I have had in my entire life. Food was so fresh and you could taste the quality of the meal. I also had sushi, and honestly, best sushi I've had in Miami.
We made reservations for 11 and we were sat right in time. - our server Kevin knew his menu and was really great - and the food was awesome
We went to Captain’s Tavern and it was so good! The sushi was surprisingly good and portions were fresh and large. The salmon sushi was especially delicious! My husband got the blackened hogfish and it was so fresh and tasty. The dessert was a white brownie with ice cream that was enormous! We will be back!
I loved snails and tuna with spice on rice. Great felt like I just won the Super Bowl insane water is great. NICO IS THE GOAT (greatest of all time for you old heads) thank you.
Excellent restaurant and fun bar atmosphere.
My family has eaten here for many years. Great seafood dishes. This year went for Christmas Eve dinner with my family party of 12. Every dish came out on time and was delicious. The server was on it and accommodated all requests. No complaints here
This place was very nice! Me and my husband wanted to try something new and this place was a great addition to our list of seafood restaurants we'll be going to. We both love seafood and this place delivers. I had the stuffed shrimp and he had the Shrimp risotto with mushrooms. Honestly we do not know which we liked more they were equally delicious. The portion sizes are generous and we were full so I am a little sad we didn't get the dessert, but it gives me reason to go back sooner. The atmosphere is very classy and welcoming. The service was on point too.
Such a beautiful experience. First, I have to mention the beautiful entrance door. then, the entrance was organized an enough room to walk in. The atmosphere inside is very calming and friendly. The tables were astonishing and very comfy The food was really amazing and they had a good verity of options. Will definitely go there again.
Captain’s Tavern has been a staple of great seafood in the Miami area for a very long time as well as offering great value in their wine list!
Best seafood i've eaten in years.Tried something new even loved that! What's recommended to me by a family member,Did not let me down .Wow, If only I lived close enough to come here more often, Next time in miami, you can bet I'll be visiting. Thanks again for the great dining folks!
Have been going to Captain's Tavern for years. The food and service were excellent. That is considering it was a very busy Saturday night.
I took my mother in law here this evening and it was our first time there. The food was incredible, I recommend the hog fish grilled and the clams casino for an appetizer. The waitress we had was lovely and very attentive. I will be going back! So glad that I looked up best seafood restaurants in Miami and found this gem.
The food was amazing! We got lucky and there was no wait on a Friday night at 7:30pm. I was happily surprised they served sushi which was good. We had the sushi (captain) and the surf and turf. I will be going back for sure. The only thing I didn't like much is the close proximity to the other tables but a lot of restaurants seem to be doing this.
Best/largest selection of seafood, great friendly service. 6 types of oysters. If you read Hemingway you read about Their oysters. Great escargot with filo pastry. Shrimp is larger in their shrimp cocktail cooked perfect. Sometimes I will have only selection of appetizers. Variety of fresh catch posted by the entrance along with specials. Extensive wine list. Reasonably priced value or nice selection of $100- 200. Romantic, new England/seaside decor. Aquariums throughout adequate lighting so you won't have trouble reading the menu. 40 year favorite never disappointed. My wife always said I have a cloud over my head and I always get the worst meal of the day so 'never disappointed' is saying something. Land lubber menu but why? Also seafood market attached. Another story just as great.
The place is mostly older cliantel. The food is 90 percent of seafood and we'll worth the in price. The service is excellent. For those who remember New England Oyster house it is an upgrade to that restaurant. I could not afford to enjoy it every week but we'll worth those special times and times you want to treat yourself. They have a full bar. Beer, only bottles, and a lot of wine. Enjoy
Great service friendly people awesome place
Excellent meal!!! Tuesday lobster 🦞 night, got an extra lobster with the meal. Black skillet mussels were good but a lil over cooked. Bread pudding for dessert was excellent. Can't wait to go again.
A miami classic. This location has stood the test of time across multiple visits going back over a decade. Might be the best restaurant for fish in Miami which is saying a lot. A+. No notes
Hands down one of our favorite restaurants. Found it about 8 months ago by Google search while in the area looking for seafood. This time we drove down from West Palm Beach and even though we had to settle for take out due to Covid-19...The Captain did not disappoint. The place has a lot of history. There is something to be said about a establishment that's been around for 50+ years. I would highly recommend the JUMBO Caribbean Lobster Tail. I promise you will not be disappointed!
What a fantastic place! Seafood and atmosphere were great, perfect for birthdays or a relaxing night out. We received extremely attentive and friendly service from the staff. Special shout out to Don who went above and beyond coordinating a gifted bottle of wine for us.
Will Tuesdays ever be the same? Probably not after you've had the Tuesday TWO LOBSTERS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE dinner special. Yes. Two lobsters. Not Florida Lobster, either. These lobsters have tails AND claws. The meal comes with a side and loads of butter. As well as a salad to start. Definitely worth it. They also have a steak special on Thursdays. I recommend highly.
Awesome food, I was not hungry at all, I had an assignment in Fort Lauderdale in the afternoon, I purposely did not eat lunch, hoping that on the way back eat with my friends in Captain's Tavern. This was my first time, but my friends go there often. So Tuesday seems to be Lobster night, by 3 pm, I got so hungry that I had to stop at a hoagie place hoping to eat something lite but ended up gulping an 8" sandwich. So you imagine me after that. I am supposed to be at Captain's Tavern at 6pm, made it there a bit late, Diane and Steve was already there, had their drinks wait for me, I was ten mins late, traffic on US 1 (have to blame on something) , anyways I ordered my drink , and we ordered our food, Diane ordered the Lobster Special , I ordered Seafood Medley , Steve ordered Dijon roast snapper, Diane was busy with her lobster so we did not disturb her, Steve and chatted , along with eating what we were served, The food was excellent, I could not eat half as I was full, packed it to go, everyone liked it go, the place is a little tricky to find, ample parking , good service, the place was packed for a Tuesday. Maybe they knew that we were coming...lol...I would go back there.
I highly recommend this place. The food arrived promptly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. It was quite busy when we visited (on a Tuesday). Luckily, as it was just the two of us celebrating our anniversary, we were seated immediately. I ordered the 8oz lobster tail, and it was the best I've ever had. The freshness and quality of the meal were exceptional. I also tried the sushi, and it was honestly the best I've had in Miami.
One of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at in my life. The service was great. The food was out of this world highly recommend it.
Best dining experience we've had in a very long time. Fresh ingredients perfectly prepared. Our waitress was amazing! She treated us like VIPs! Will definitely be back to this gem of a restaurant.
We had an amazing dining experience here thanks to Christine, who was the absolute sweetest. We started with the stone crabs recommended by Christine, which were just what we needed! The grouper was perfectly cooked, and the risotto was great! Everything was timely, food was hot and fresh, service was top notch. Made me feel like a regular my first time.
Been eating here since the 70's. You know you can get the freshest seafood here from lobster, grouper, crab, sushi anything you want. My go to spot when entertaining friends and clients.
Food is amazing. This place has not changed in the years I've been visiting. One of the best fish dishes I've had, locally. Our waiter, Junior, was very accommodating; a true professional at what he does.
This is hands down the best place to get Seafood. Everything they make there is delicious including the steaks. In particular though, there is no place I've ever found that gives you a better piece of fish or better portion. Great selection that has a wide array of styles. Can't go wrong with this one!
Kristina was so sweet, explained the specials, brought our drinks and appetizers promptly. My husband had grouper oscar, I had the shrimp scampi. Exceptional food, excellent service and great atmosphere. We will go back often. A must!
Great food, atmosphere and customer service. The Halibut was cooked to PERFECTION by Chef Dale the broth was to die for it was all so AMAZING. Our server Phil was great and very attentive especially regarding my shellfish allergy. Everything is fresh and just superb. Will be coming back again and again
Our dining experience at Captains Tavern was supreme! Good places like this are hard to come by. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are dining in a real captain's ship. The food is unlike any other seafood place in the area. With fresh ingredients and good recipes this location is a true hidden gem!! 10/10 would definitely recommend.
We had the best experience tonight. The restaurant was completely full. We were given the only empty table. Initially I worried the kitchen would have trouble since they were at full capacity, but it didn’t. Our server, David was the best waiter I really think we’ve had in recent memory, there wasn’t a moment that we waited for anything. It was really remarkable under the circumstances. Great job.
I have been frequenting this restaurant for YEARS. I absolutely love Captain’s Tavern- the food is always impeccable. Apple was our server tonight and she was AMAZING! She was super friendly and professional and made our experience tonight very special. :-)
Its like traveling back in time to 1985. The music, the atmosphere nothing has changed... The food was good the kids meals were a great deal especially if your little ones like fresh fish. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The waitress was very nice, friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience.
We have been coming here for over 25 years. Food quality is consistent, prices are reasonable and service is good to excellent. They have a huge variety & selection of seafood and it is always fresh. Over the years, the portions have incrementally decreased. I don’t mind paying more to get quality. Example: the salads...smaller & dressing is watered down. ***Update: the restaurant updated the inside and it’s nice. They have good COVID protocols in place and I’m happy they finally updated the interior with new paint and other things. They still need to get rid of that old carpet. We did the lobster specials & they were delicious. Our waiter Madison was awesome. Very attentive and friendly. We’ll continue to come here!😃
Excellent seafood. This place has been around forever for a reason. The decor is as old as many of it's regular customers. The Maine lobster deal is great, they have an excellent wine list that is not marked up like crazy and just all around solid seafood.
Huge menu of seafood options well prepared from fresh ingredients. The biggest problem will be deciding what to order from the many items. Our food was excellent and looking around the room other meals appeared to be deliciously prepared and presented. The wine list was equally expansive with many bottles over $100 but look carefully and there are several excellent bottles around the $29 price range tucked in between the pricey bottles. The service was friendly and attentive. Ample free parking. What could be better? Not much. I'll have to come back and try several entrees before I can give it a 5 star rating.
I have been going to this restaurant for 25 years and it really has not changed much in all that time. It needs a make over probably but its still offers fresh, simple, well prepared fish that is really good and not fancy at all. The fish is always high quality and the food is always consistent. You won't go wrong at this place for simply prepared, great seafood with no frills. Even the desserts are great and almost always prepared in house. The place gets packed every night for a reason so go early and get some great seafood and eat with the locals that also have been eating here for years!
Nice ambiance with an extensive menu. Went on a Wednesday night in February and the place was packed. Good food and excellent service. Had the yellowtail snapper imperial and wife had seafood risotto, both were very good. Desserts looked huge and good also although we had no room. Be careful if driving north on route 1 as it is tucked behind an Ethan Allan store.
Nice restaurant, a little underwhelmed by the kids options though. The fish was cooked nicely, but very basic side dishes. It was overall okay, but probably won't be one of my regular restaurants. The seating for large parties is awkward with joint round tables
Food is great. They have some really unique preparations. If I had one complaint, it's this: they should remove about 3 or 4 of the tables in this restaurant. On some typical Miami BS, it's entirely too cramped together. It seems like you couldn't possibly enter or leave your table without touching someone else. I would never set foot in this place after like 6pm because of that.
Pinecrest staple serving seafood, but their steak with super thin onion rings is highly recommended as well. Service is friendly, but can be a bit slow when the place is busy. Portions are large, so keep that in mind if you want to save room for dessert.
Been excited to come to this traditional Miami restaurant. The Hostess, Claudia, was awesome to our group of 7. Our server, Shianne did a good job with our big group. The food was fine; Escargots, Crab-cakes, Stuffed Mushrooms and Raw Oysters are all good. The cocktails are on the weak side; had to ask for Aperol Spritz to have more Aperol and Server made sure Bartender improved the 2nd round. Wine by glass was a good value @$6. The lobsters (stuffed and tail) were fine. The FL Lobster tail @$48 is not a good value and a bit overcooked/dry. The fishes; Branzino and Snapper were fine, as well as Cajun Scallops. Nice but expensive desserts and good Espressos. The group was happy.
A nice restaurant with excellent service. Food was good with three disappointments. The scallops were bay instead of sea scallops. The crab cakes' natural taste was overcome with liberal use of herbs and spices. And lastly the seafood melody was delivered as a stew in a tomato base, instead of an expected platter. We probably should have realized this when we were not asked fried or broiled when ordering. And, I will admit that I moved to Florida from the state known for their crabcakes (Maryland). Price was moderate at around $30 per person. Nuf said
A bit price (Definetly gone up since last time I was here about a year ago) Food is delicious. Salmon is always excellent and a very good sized portion. First time trying the jambalaya and it was really good. Our favorite appetizer is the Calamari Salad. Excellent choice for our anniversary. Give a try, you regret it.
The receptionist didn't show us to our table. She dropped the menu on the table and walked away. We were unsure where we were supposed to be seated, so we simply sat at a vacant table for 2.
Over the years, this has been a very nice place with a well-to-do clientele. The food is perfect. But.. this time the smoked fish dip, which is great, was served in such a small amount... MAYBE a tablespoons worth, for the price, was outrageous. The manager claimed that he has been there for 41 years and this was always the amount served. Nope... I've been going for about 20 years and never have I been served such a small amount. Litterally a tablespoon of dip for $14 is not right.
Food wasnt the best, for my tastes. There was some confusion as to the location of the host stand, as there is one right inside the door, but they are actually on the otherside of the wall. Figured it out after several parties kept walking around. The food was ok, just not anything of the quality i am used to. The bar was busy, but again the cocktails are standard far with mass produced sour mix and mixers.
Overall, the experience was okay. The food is decent and the service is good. If you’re looking for amazing seafood and a great dining experience, this might not do it for you. I’m always open to try a restaurant once. It’s debatable if I’ll return.
LIVING OFF ITS REPUTATION: I will start by saying I have many fond memories of Captain's Tavern from 20+ years ago when I would go on occasion with my grandparents to the 2 for 1 lobster night. We would gorge ourselves on lobsters and build memories I now hold dear. I had the occasion to go recently for a family birthday celebration and I jumped at the chance. While the service is still fantastic and the ambiance as I fondly remember, I found the food lacking. The Stone Crab claw appetizer was good but for $18, I really expected more than 3 small (they called them medium) claws. My $40 Maine lobster was rubbery and a bit dry. (Maybe too long on a steam table or maybe reheated) The rice side dish was okay but forgettable. I did have a couple of my tablemates clams which were good and a fair portion. The desserts were large and delicious. What really floored me, however, was the bill - $200 for two of us. We had a great time and the birthday girl was happy but I really didn't feel the value of the meal warranted the price. Next time I will stick to my earlier memories and skip the Captain. There are better options for a far better price.
We had the rainbow sushi roll(good), stuffed mushrooms (good), coconut shrimp(good), conch fritters (ok but pass) crispy snapper(good), paella(pass), seafood alfredo(pass), an Asian shrimp vegetable dish(it was ok), kids mac n cheese (looks like dried kraft mac). Margarita was alright but husband ordered crown n coke and it was not crown tasted like jack (big difference). Good waitstaff but wouldn't go there again.
Only one of 4 fish dishes was good. Other three were incredibly bland, no seasoning at all. Sauces had no flavor. Fish was cooked properly, just no flavor.
We plan ahead our Saturday early dinner to visit this restaurant after reading a review about a list of the oldest restaurants in Miami, my son and I pick this restaurant, we arrive around 5 pm , the restaurant is pretty dark and the Decor seems stock in time , in a good way , the host was nice a gave us a nice table on the side of the bar , next to a fish tank , and it was a little be of ambiance, it seems to be crowded by loyal costumers and off course, you can perceive how well treated they were, barely hear the music or any laugh, extremely quite, the server Junior were very good and attentive, the food nothing memorable, a woman who seems to be the manager , with a bitter face , was looking to our table all the time then halfway our dessert, they send us the check, half of the restaurant was still empty. I considered really rude, is a place with no interest adding new clients to his price and very rigid atmosphere. If you prefer a relaxing this is not the place.
offers a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for casual dining with family and friends. Known for its hearty seafood dishes and classic American comfort food, this restaurant delivers generous portions and flavorful meals. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure guests feel welcome and well taken care of. Whether you're craving fresh fish, juicy burgers, or tasty appetizers, Captain's Tavern provides a satisfying dining experience at a reasonable price. The cozy interior and nautical-themed decor add to the charm, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal.
This review is based on my personal experience. It may or may not reflect your experience. Got to say, was not expecting a negative review of captains tavern. The place was very highly recommended. First, the service. The service was very good! One of the very first things that happened was some fellow tried to barge in without a mask. The host turned him away. That was good. Everyone else was wearing masks, the staff were all wearing masks. Thank you for that. Next the drinks. I ordered a few specials on the menu including a leche martini. I wound up sending them back. They were not great. Next the appetizer. I ordered rings and things calamari. We ate it only because I had already sent the drinks back. Didn't have much of a taste, the breading was not adhering to the meat, and the meat was wet under the breading. It was not tasty. Next the crabs. I was told these were very good. But I wouldn't get them again. Next was the desert. Yum! The best part of the meal! Key lime pie. Would consider going back just for the key lime pie. Total bill with two drinks, 1 pound crabs, and a single appetizer was 150 after tip.
Not impressed at all, this is my first time to have a seafood risotto with melted cheese, peas and asparagus tips and mushrooms. The atmosphere is more of a cafeteria than anything else.
Not a huge fan. Bartender made our whiskey sour drinks with actual sour mix. 🤢 Took about an hour and a half to get our dinner. Waiter was nice enough. Just nothing about the restraunt wowed you. Hostess acted and looked liked rather be anywhere but there. Never a good first sign when you walk into the restaurant.
My husband and I have dined at this restaurant over many years, and we were always pleased with the food and service. It's been a while since we've been back, since Covid at least. However, on 8/12/23 we were very disappointed. For starters, the Key West conch chowder tasted like canned tomato soup with absolutely no conch in it. The Grouper Oscar - was about 2 oz of fish with about a table spoon or less of lump crab meat. That was very disappointing to say the least. The side of baked potato was served late and was a little bigger that a fingerling potato. The Sea Bass was smothered in butter and the side rice and peas was served separately in a tiny bowl, maybe 3 oz. Definitely was not worth the money. Needless to say, we won't be back. I must add that our server was excellent though.
Meh... This restaurant was highly recommended however missed the mark. The food was bland and very small portions for the price. Service was also ok. The waiter was attentive but did not help letting us know any specials or items that we should try. We were a table of six and while dining they sat a big party behind us and a waiter kept pushing my father in to accommodate the party behind us, not pleasant for my father at all. Will not be returning.
Honestly. Not an impressive restaurant. The king crab was okay. Not the freshest I have had and very small. The sides are horrible. Really horrible. Dry rice. Tiny baked potatoes. My sons dish was horrible. A bunch of semi fresh seafood in a red broth. All the seafood was bland and boiled. The server we had today was beyond terrible. First he brings me regular coke instead of diet. I am a diabetic and tasted the sugar right away. He apologized and brought me diet. Waited for a refill that never came. And then after waiting over 20 minutes for my check, I had to flag down manager to finally be able to escape the bad dining experience.
I have been dining here for over 40 years and never have I left disappointed. On 8/13/24 I visited to celebrate a friends birthday and I invited another friend and his wife who were first timers. I arrived before the rest of my party and the restaurant was pretty empty with a lot of open tables. I asked the hostess for a table for 5 because one of my friends is 6’5” and with all the food on the table it would be a bit cramped. She said no and she gave me a table for 4. When my friend and his wife arrived I again asked her if I could have a table for 5. She said no,”she would be fired”. The 2 five seater tables were never used nor was anyone seated while we we there and we were there for 2 hours. They even broke the table down and removed all the settings. I guess it really isn’t about satisfying the customer. Instead it’s the potential customer that might walk in. Unfortunately, on this night, that customer never came through the door and that’s why I have taken the time to write this review. Our waiter was new but he was nice. We were not advised or the nightly specials. Additionally, I felt he could’ve followed up a bit more. The complete deal breaker for this night was, there was no bread pudding. What a disappointment. I rant and rave about the bread pudding. If I had known I would’ve celebrated elsewhere and came back another night. I live in Broward and don’t mind making the drive down to one of my most favorite restaurants. Oh, I forgot to mention that the ambient temperature was uncomfortable. All these are first for me. I don’t think we got a $400 plus experience.
What a waste of $100. My husband came home with seafood from here and I was excited to try someplace new. So disappointing. This place is down the street and somehow the food still got here cold. The Thai Snapper was full of spines and the shrimp with vegetables tasted like dirty dish water. The lobster bisque was greasy and tasteless. I’m not sure how this restaurant was full considering the quality of the food when you can get better seafood anywhere else.
I have always heard of Captain’s Tavern. But never had the pleasure of dining at the establishment. I know the place has been there forever so it’s not my desire to completely shatter them as a restaurant, however... Let me start by saying the ambiance is nice, rather low key. The decorations are dated, the server was amazing, and the service as a whole was great. On the contrary the food was without doubt the worst I have ever had in my entire life!!!! My wife ordered at my request a pan seared halibut with fennel and asparagus. What she got was what appeared to be a broiled piece of fish lying in a Luke warm bath of some kind of buttery lemon wine sauce. I ordered the smoked fish dip as an appetizer it wasn’t terrible but certainly not anything to write home about, the meal I ate or should say choked down was a filet with Florida lobster tail. The steak was horrifyingly terrible not medium rare as requested more on the medium side, it tasted more like an old bland chunk of cardboard! The lobster tail if I could brag was edible. The best dish we had there was the side of French fries. But reliving the experience and the $200.00 price of the dinner I would of opted to go somewhere else.
Never again. 260.00 for 3 people and I only ate the fries. My family and I went to celebrate my moms’s 70th bday. 4 entrees and not one of them was edible. I’m so disappointed. One the bright side, our server was kind.
We went for my husbands birthday. It was a dead Thursday night at 6 pm! We asked if we could sit in front of the fish tank for my autistic son. And they told they couldn’t accommodate us as it was a table for five and we were only three. I explained my autistic son was fixated and begged and they told me no! There were many other five top tables. We left! Captains Tavern manager and staff shame on you for not helping a family with a child with special needs! Disgusting and disappointing
On Saturday, I decided to treat my family to stone crabs and placed an order for five. I spent $355 on large-sized stone crab claws, along with mustard and cocktail sauces. We enjoyed the crabs earlier this afternoon while celebrating my wife's birthday. However, I was deeply disappointed to discover that many of the claws were not large, as advertised, but small. As you know, large-sized claws come at a premium price, while smaller ones are significantly cheaper (refer to the attached picture). To make matters worse, the claws were not pre-cut for easy consumption. Instead, they mixed claws of various sizes, left them uncut, and carelessly packed them into a plastic bag--all without informing us. This experience has left me frustrated, and I will never purchase from Captain's Tavern again.
We came here on March 7, 2026 to celebrate our son making the honor roll. We used to come here often, which made this visit especially disappointing. Our server appeared much more attentive to nearby regular tables while ours received minimal attention. We waited a very long time for just two dishes (lobster tail and seabass), and a table seated after us was served first. When the food arrived, the lobster tail was dry and overcooked, and the seabass was bland and covered in a watery tomato sauce with overcooked potatoes and poor presentation. Because we had already waited so long, we didn’t want to send the food back and start the wait again. My son ate part of the lobster tail but left some, and I barely ate the seabass. The server even asked if I wanted a box to take it home, which should have made it clear the dish wasn’t enjoyed. When I spoke with someone who presented herself as a “manager”, there was no apology or acknowledgment, just “thanks for the feedback.” Sadly, this experience was nothing like the level of service and quality we had come to expect from this restaurant in the past.
I went to this restaurant because my friend recommended it. I ordered shrimp cocktail, miso soup, Rockefeller oysters, and a snapper. Eating the first few things they brought my main course the snapper and I told him to buy it because I felt weird. I’m not the tree to get sick. The next day I threw up over seven times and what I was throwing up was specifically be the oysters. I had to lay in bed all day and just drink water. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened. Spoke to the manager named Guido, I explained that I couldn’t and was afraid to eat the remaining food due to my experience. After he heard my story, he responded that there’s nothing they could do about it but pay for my medical bill. Be careful at captains tavern. I would have a box place again.
