El Mago de las Fritas Miami Reviews
El Mago de las Fritas is one of those places that immediately makes you feel at home. The service was friendly, warm, and welcoming from the moment I walked in. The frita was absolutely delicious and exactly what you hope for when craving this Cuban classic. The flavors were spot on. I also ordered the ajiaco, a traditional soup packed with different roots, vegetables, and meats. One spoonful instantly brought me back to home in Cuba, comforting, rich, and full of flavor. I also tried the chicharrón. While in the U.S. the term usually refers to the meatier portion of pork belly, in Cuba chicharrón is typically the crispy pork skin. That said, what they served was still fresh, flavorful, and very enjoyable. Overall, a great experience with authentic flavors and welcoming service. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
The best fritas in town. An awesome little Cuban place. Must try these Cuban Fritas they are a great experience. If you never try them, please do so! Not a burger, but a Cuban version of it.
Was welcomed as soon as i came in. I knew what i came for but staff offered to explain fritas and offer suggestions. Food was delicious and absolutely what i needed. The watermelon juice was delicious and my frita w egg was the best ive ever had. Next time, ill try coffee and dessert.
Wonderful Cuban Burger spot! Was recommended by a close friend and it did not disappoint! The malteada shake was deliciously paired with the Fritas Tradicional.
Happy Birthday to El Mago….so many years bringing us and preserving the Cuban flavor!!!
This place is amazing!!! Best pan con bistec and frita in Miami! The servers are very attentive and approachable. Highly recommend this place 😋
IMO the best Cuban Frita Burger in Miami hands down. Just go for the Tradicional Frita, it has every flavor you have been looking for
There are reserved parking spots right in front of the business (I think 3). Parking elsewhere is doable but read the signs carefully. We came on a weekday around noon and were able to be seated right away. Our waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful. The mango smoothie was delicious and the burger was amazing. Next time, I think I would skip the side order of fries and just ordered another burger, which are small but packed with flavor. Their homemade flan (made by El Mago himself) didn’t disappoint! Can’t wait to visit again. Highly recommend!
Wow! Thank you, Andrew Zimmern, for introducing me to El Mago!! What an experience, truly amazing. The 1st thing I saw was a glorious golden pile of the homemade chicharrones. Yes please 🙏 Hard to describe the level of flavor and sheer excellence of this 🙌 Next up a double Frita a Caballo. Perfect patty cooked in tomato sauce and onions. House made papitas and bread create the perfect foil to serve the Frita on. Beer, colada, and flan to round out a transformational dining experience!! Martha is so warm and inviting, and you can see the same qualities and level of service from everyone who works at El Mago. Thank you to all! 👏👏👏
I went on Saturday with my boyfriend who has never tried a frita and my 95 year old grandma. The waitress and even the owners daughter were very sweet . Our waitress was very attentive, I sadly forgot her name but didn’t forget her welcoming smile and the pride that she had to work there. I believe she said she had been working there for 7 years , she made it a point to let us know everything was made there daily . My mamey shake was really good , and the croquettas were amazing , the frita had a gourmet twist to it . We all enjoyed our food but what I loved most was how down to earth and nice everyone was . The owners daughter , even spoke to us , asked us about our experience and she even said a nice comment about us and our grandma. Little places like these , that make you feel like you are visiting family is what makes Miami so special.
The staff was full of love, the food was full of love, now I am full of love. El mago himself thanked us
This is the deal. The best frita place in Miami. 300% authentic, the service was amazing and the price was cheap in mu opinion. Parking is a quiet bit challenge but you can can find something the street behind or front. Definitely I will return.
Excellent service delicious Fritas the hidden gem of miami, you must visit
5 stars just isn't enough! AMAZING food and the staff are so welcoming and accommodating, checking in on you throughout your visit! Can't believe I haven't been here before! DEFINITELY the best fritas in Miami! If you are visiting the area this an absolute gem of a place to eat! Do recommend getting there early as parking is somewhat limited in the area. Will definitely be back on my next visit!
Found this place after a Google review dive for Cuban food and oh wow! The whole family thought it was amazing. Never had a Cuban burger before and so glad we did. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You could tell they were busy but you could also tell that they were used to it and there were no problems with them staying attentive. Will totally come back if back in Miami!
Hands down the best food I’ve ever put in my face! Everyone was so kind and the service was amazing! The cutest little restaurant with a small town family feel. I will drive the 3 hours to eat here again any chance I get!
You must stop here on your way back to the airport. Delicious, fresh, made with love.
Best burger ever. Everything else I’ve had has been really good as well. The first time I came here I ordered a second frita after two bites of my first one. It’s one of my main reasons for going to Miami and is always my first and last stop. I don’t speak Spanish and the waitresses don’t speak English so my order is usually has a minor screw up, but I don’t care. The food is still great.
First time in Miami and we wanted to try some authentic local Cuban cuisine. This was an absolute gem! Only 3 parking spots, so we had to drive around a bit to find a spot, but it was so worth it!! Family restaurant that makes everything fresh and the food was incredibly flavorful and delicious! Lucked out that it was Saturday because the chicharrones are only available then… and they were so, so good! Also had the Frita Tradicional which was also amazing. They are so nice and friendly! Wonderful experience!
This place is a little slice of heaven. The food is prepared fresh right in front of you, the staff are as friendly as can be, and it is so delicious it hurts. The fritas are light and savory, making you want to eat many of them all in a row. Flan and cafe Cubano are exceptional as well. All around a wonderful experience and delicious food for rock-bottom prices.
I was in the area completing a real estate transaction and desired some memorable local cuisine. I never had a frita before this and my life will never be the same because of it. Amazing! I'll make it a point to enjoy this Cuban burger regularly. On top of that, the service was incredible. I was treated in a way that made me feel specialby both the staff and who I believe was an owner. I was given a history on the restaurant, dish, and left with staff waving goodbye while smiling lovingly. I am forever a fan.
My wife and I love this place. Found it quickly on the way to the airport to end our honeymoon. Amazing food. You must try the special sauce too, no clue what's in it, but it surely is special along with everything else they offer. I had the confundida and the wife had the a Caballo, and both were out of this world. The flavor profiles and the textures make one of the best meals we've had. Super laid back atmosphere, amazingly courteous and fast service, this is a must try for Miami if you're looking for amazing food, and amazing service.
Best frita in Miami. Small place with great service and excellent food. Great place to sit down and relax. Most days El Mago is there. He is super and loves making sure you get that special treatment and great quality with superior service. Love seeing a restaurant that the owner is still there. It gives it a special home feeling. For sure would recommend if you havent tried yet.
Family owned and operated. The food was delicious. The service was THE BEST. I had the chicken sandwich and it was amazing. Miss coming here with my parents. It was especially nice to see El Mago sitting at the counter, his daughter elegantly running things behind the counter. Everyone was happy. Thank you!!!
Great food, great place very clean and everyone is very friendly and the food is amazing
This is a famous restaurant in West Miami since the early 1980s, which perfectly represents Cuban cuisine and hospitality. They specialize in the Cuban style burger known as a "frita". A frita is classically made with a beef and pork (chorizo is sometimes used) patty topped with cooked onions and crispy shoestring potatoes, and served on a Cuban bread roll. They serve a few different variations with single, double and triple patties. They also serve various other Cuban staples: pastries, desserts, shakes, and sandwiches. I usually order the double frita with a fried egg on top with swiss cheese and side of french fries. It's a phenomenal burger with a great balance of flavors and textures. The patty is savory and mildly spicy, the swiss cheese is nutty, the fried onions are sweet, the runny egg yolk is silky, and shoestring potatoes add crunch. They serve each burger with a side of garlic aioli which takes the burger and fries to the next level. Although the frita is a relatively simple burger, it's unique blend of delicious flavors is a culinary masterpiece of Cuban cuisine and is rarely found outside of Miami in the United States. The service and hospitality is second to none, and the ladies working the restaurant treat everyone like family. The restaurant and clean and has an old school Miami vibe with the bar counter. Prices are fair and reasonable. El Mago de las Fritas is a local favorite and should be on everyone's list when visiting Miami.
Truly exceptional! I hope this place never changes. A must try if you’re in Miami!
This is definitely old-school 1970's lunch counter style neighborhood spot. Counter stools & tables for about 40 diners. Short menu focused on the famous Cuban-style frita(hamburger-style beef, sausage or chicken). Everybody knows that but the REAL star is the pork chicharones(deep-fried pork belly meat with crispy skin). No sauce just served with a lime wedge! But there's the kicker, it's ONLY available on Saturdays after 12 noon. A medium -sized portion at $6.50 is a steal! I was not impressed with the flan. Super service from your Cuban abuela!
Ok, this may not be the fanciest of locations and the decor is old school, and parking is limited at best, but - and this but is bigger than Kim Kardashian's - the food is amazing and so reasonably priced. I recommend the Frita Cubana Al Caballo with a Batido de Mamey to wash it down. The bun in the Frita was soft and delicious and the batidio was sublime. For those who don't know a Frita is a Cuban burger but the Patty is ground beef, pork, and chorizo with very very thin fries dressing the Patty. Al Caballo means with a fried egg on top of the meat patty. The batidio is a shake made with the fruit Mamey and is delicious and sweet. Perfect counter to the salty of the chorizo Those two items combined came out to $9.75 and worth twice that. Delish. Plus you get that old school Miami vibe. The servers treated me very well and were all over any needs. Always a great experience so check it out if you are from out of town, and if you live here and you have never been.. Then w.t.h. is wrong with you?
The best FRITA in miami. You have to have "El Mago" make you one of his signature sandwiches. All the fritas come with a mountain of homemade shoestring potato curls pilled high on a soft cuban bread roll. The house made hot sauce is for veteran scoville connoisseurs. They also serve cuban comfort food that is just like moms. Don't forget to enjoy with a malted shake!
We ate here 7 years ago and remembered it being wonderful! We had the opportunity to stop in again and it was just as good if not better than last time. We had the frita, tostones, rice and beans and they blessed us with a flan for my birthday. Service was top notch and food was over the top. And as a bonus, the man himself was there and the kids enjoyed taking a picture with him. We can’t wait to go again.
The frita a caballo I had here was one of the best sandwiches I have ever tried in my life. The amount of flavor they were able to achieve was incredible. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and they took the time to explain everything to me and provided me great reccomendations. This is a must visit for anyone who likes sandwiches.
1st time here on recent trip to Miami. WOW! delicious burgers. just amazing flavor. Chicharron was fantastic! I have never had a Cuban burger and loved it so much I had to try to recreate it when I got back to NJ. Kids loved it! so Thanks for the amazing food and inspiration, though mine pales in comparison. Lastly, Thanks for your warmth during our visit. Everyone was so nice and welcoming! Looking forward to next trip back.
I love el mago de las fritas. They never disappoint and every time I go I just end up ordering more and more. A real Cuban staple! Love the history on the walls and always liked seeing el mago himself at the restaurant just enjoying the fruits of his labor. Can’t go wrong with any of the fritas or the shakes.
Service was great, food was amazing! Yes it's a hole-in-the-wall kind of place (snug accommodations), but don't let that dissuade you. The flavors are worth it!
Wow we loved our experience with el mago. You can manufacturer this atmosphere. The people working and eating there were like family. Within minutes of walking in we were joking and having a great time with everyone and we really felt like family. The food was delicious and I can't wait to come back. For those that were there with us you are welcome at our home any time when you visit Utah. Thank you for the great meal and the great evening.
El Mago De Las Fritas is a lesser known classic of Miami-Dade County eating. Simply put, El Mago and his crew create one of the most pleasant dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the top-notch customer service to the mouth watering food, El Mago De Las Fritas knocks it out of the park. During my most recent visit, my group ordered the Chicharrones, Tostones, and the titular Fritas. The Fritas are incredible, and the Chicharrones were addicting. Overall, El Mago De Las Fritas is a most go spot for a great value and an even better restaurant experience.
The frita was amazing ! True Cuban food! We came from Sarasota during HurricaneMilton . We had our dogs with us due to evacuating and they said we could bring them inside ‘. We also had a mamey shake which was so so good! The people there were in my opinion the best I have ever had! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts !
A beautiful place with a warm, smiling, and helpful team. The food is excellent, fresh, and different from what you can find in Miami. You can go there with your eyes closed!
Best authentic home in the wall cuban restaurant!!! The prices are very affordable And the people are super friendly too!! Definitely order the Fritas bc it was so amazing that I ordered 2!!!! (I had to order mine without bread got half reasons. My husband had it with the bread and loved his too)
After watching George Motz Burger Scholar Session, had to try this place. It's just a small place, but amazing Fritas await inside. One word of warning, there's limited parking directly in front. Staff was very friendly, but the star is the Fritas, just so good, never had anything like it. Highly recommend this place!
We stopped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with our first time having Cuban food. The food was amazing! We tried a few different versions of the Frita and they were all delicious! The employees were so friendly and helpful explaining the different options to our party of six.
Had a fantastic meal at El Mago De Las Fritas. We tried the Frita Traditional, Big Magic Frita, Croqueta Sandwich, and the Magic Hot Dog, everything was absolutely delicious. The flan was amazing and a must try. They also have fresh juices, and the mango juice was outstanding, easily the best mango juice I’ve had. Highly recommend this spot for a great meal. We’ll definitely be back. Everyone there was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.
This place was splendid! As soon as we came in, we were warmly welcomed, and the waitress who served us explained to us the contents of each dish of our interest. The food was delicious; not oily at all and the quantity was perfect for moderate eaters! The manager of the store also greeted us and introduced herself as well as the place and its history. Nice ambience and very homely feel. Super chill eatery that I would highly recommend to tourists looking for an authentic food choice.
I went on a father-and-son outing this Saturday and stopped at this restaurant, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and invited to sit anywhere we liked. We chose the counter and immediately felt welcomed. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive. She offered great suggestions and explained the daily specials, and every recommendation was spot on. She took our order perfectly and the food came out quickly, fresh, and excellently prepared. Not only her, but the entire staff was attentive, helpful, and genuinely pleasant. One moment that really stood out was after I finished my meal and ordered a cafecito. I stepped away briefly to wash my hands, and when I returned, she had thoughtfully placed a saucer over my coffee to keep it warm. That level of attention to detail truly impressed me. I also had the chance to speak with the owner, who was just as attentive and kind. I shared how much we enjoyed both the food and the service. The entire experience made us feel like we were eating at our grandparents’ home—full of warmth, happiness, and genuine family-style treatment. Highly recommended.
Came in on a quiet Monday night -- the food was great, but the service was memorably friendly. Our server (and the owner/manager) were really excited to welcome us as first-time guests, walk us through the menu, etc. I really can't stress how friendly and hospitable they are. Will go back next time in Miami!
Ate here a few months ago while killing time waiting to go to the airport and forgot to give them a review. We are from Wisconsin and were told this was the best Cuban food. Server was surprised we knew of the place. Great food and friendly atmosphere. My kids even loved the food. We'll definitely go back when in Miami.
Tonight I stopped by this place, as it has been on my radar for the last two weeks ever since I saw a niche social media post about it. Although the place being empty around 6 PM, do not let that fact fool you! I asked the lovely lady (Adís is her name I believe) if I can order the Big Magic Frita with fries and a mango smoothie( the only one they had at the time). She also convinced me to stay to eat inside since I had the time to. Despite me generally not liking mangoes and Aioli sauce, this establishment made it with pure love to the point where I would give them another try! She also gave me a taste test of another milkshake that they do on certain days and I'm happy to say that it tasted fantastic too! I can't believe that you can still find hidden gems inside Miami, considering the fact that this place has been there for the past 40 years. guaranteed on my next Pay-Day I'll go visit El Mago to try everything else that they offer! Also, thank you El Mago for opening another door in my life to trying Cuban Food!
These just might be the best fritas in Miami. I highly recommend it. The tostones were also excellent. The service was good despite it being super busy when we were there. I will be returning for sure.
Ubicado sobre la calle 8 en Miami, 100% Recomendado, el flan es espectacular ———————————————————————- Excellent restaurant to eat traditional Cuban Fritas, very good service, the owner (the fries magician) is always present and greets you with a friendly smile. and best of all: the food is delicious. Located on 8th Street in Miami, 100% Recommended, the flan is spectacular
Loved the vibe & the food! Server was extremely helpful & gave good recommendations. Order had 1 frita with 3 tostones, 1 frita & croquetas with fries, 1 extra order of croquetas, & 1 Guabanaya shake (opted for water instead of milk) for about $23. The food was definitely worth the price & the experience.
This was a fine frita but let me be clear , it wasn't the best. I wish the patty had a little more flavor, it wasn't overly greasy which was good. But, it didn't have enough of that meat and chorizo flavor. Also, my mamey smoothie was not very good, tasted like table sugar. It seems that the best smoothies now a days are made with the ice cream instead of the real fruit.
It’s been a while since I purchased food from this restaurant, so I was very disappointed with the quality of food and how the prices have gone up and the quality and portion of the food has gone down. I really used to like their fritas and shakes, but now they dont taste good. The shake wasn’t sweet at all and their Frita had no onions no lettuce and tomato and no cheese. I was quite disappointed and I will never return so I do not recommend this place. I’m sure there’s other places that do a better job and have better quality food.
I was genuinely interested in trying this restaurant because the food seems great, but my experience was extremely disappointing. I went to pick up a delivery order and ended up waiting far too long. The order was never completed, and I ultimately had to cancel. It appears they only have one person cooking, which makes it impossible for them to keep up with the demand. If a restaurant does not have the capacity to provide timely service, then it should not offer it until it can operate properly. It is very frustrating to wait so long for an order that never gets done. This place might have good food, but the lack of adequate staffing and organization completely ruins the customer experience.
