The Broken Shaker Miami Reviews
I love this spot in Miami. It’s a very chill bar connected to a hotel, and it also has a pool where you can relax with a drink or head over to the bar. It’s usually pretty busy, and like many places in Miami, the service charge is included.
I went when it was pretty chill and I was solo. I liked it! My drinks were FANTASTIC. Aldo (I think that's the spelling) was my bartender. I sat outside near the pool at a table. Obly wish was that there was a waiter on a Friday night, but I had my seat and no one took it when I went back to the bar. I hear it gets packed after hours which makes sense. People were definitely coming as I was making my exit.
Absolutely loved the ambiance. I absolutely loved the string lights. It really set the mood. Easily my favorite cocktails in Miami. Very smooth with sweet and delicious flavors. I would absolutely want to come back again.
This place is a vibe. Came here for a work celebration and the entire area felt just right. The food was delicious, the bar tender was great, and overall it was a great time. I don't have much to say since ours was private function but I would recommend this to any business that wants a top tier place to have an event in.
This place rocks. Outdoor garden with a pool for the residents of the Hostel/hotel, and a bar with limited indoor seating g. We got several cocktails - but The Luckiest was our favorite . We had the street tacos and fries- both were very tasty . The vibe is great. Highly recommend it.
Drinks are amazing. We have been coming here for 7 years and the menus are inventive and changing. The bartenders Lucas, Juan Jose are fantastic and give great recommendations and service.
We came here for a happy hour after doing a boat party in Miami and had a great time! They have pitchers of cocktails for only $75 which serve up to 6 people (which was an absolute steal) and their French fries with harissa ketchup were AMAZING. It was also super cute all around. I would definitely come back here again!
What a great find. A refreshing change from the too loud, heels and minidress club scene on Collins Ave. Drinks are phenomenal. Crafted with expertise and intention- these are not typical bar drinks. Vibe is casual, colorful and unpretentious. Service is just right, friendly and familiar. Music is the perfect background soundtrack and no need to scream to hold a conversation. Food is solid. Prices appropriate for the level of bar craftsmanship. Seriously recommend. 10/10 would hang out here all night.
Great place for drinks. Quiet, clean, and full of character. The bartenders are very personable and know their craft well. Did not realize there was a broken shaker in Chicago, LA, and New York, but this one is a must go to. Located inside a hostel, it has a great outside component. I opted for the bar. There’s a daily special cocktail and a mix of great drinks. Didn’t get a chance to try the food, next time.
Had a lovely Saturday night here. Loved the atmosphere of eccentric furniture, live DJ, and tropical plants. The carnitas tacos were a smaller portion than expected but really good quality. Also tried the double burger. The ginger tumeric tequila drink was good. Reservations were pretty tight even a week in advance for prime weekend times.
My usual spot here in Miami. Lucas was great at making my favorite, Negronis! The pool area was perfect to hang out after our yoga class! 10/10 recommended for a chill night in the heard of Miami
A great bar with innovative and delicious cocktails. The bar staff are friendly and imaginative and having been there a few time I have yet to be disappointed. Take note this is not a swanky showoff kind of place. If you want a “Fab” place don’t come to this place. This is just a really good cocktail bar. Seating at the bar and outside in the garden is fantastic. Enjoy
Met a group of friends at The Broken Shaker last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Parking anywhere in South Beach is a challenge, so cross your fingers you luck out and grab a spot on the street right out front like we did :) From the outside I was confused because it’s a hotel, but through the lobby and out the back is an incredible courtyard with a nice big pool. The atmosphere was perfect. Chill music and fun mature vibes for all ages to enjoy. We were drawn in by a neon sign reading Eagles Room above the door of what looked like an events space. Inside you’ll find the DJ, bar and private booths for bottle service, dancing and more! It was our first time, but we will certainly be back and I highly recommend for a fun/chill vibe with excellent cocktails that won’t completely break the bank in South Beach 🌞
I accidentally discovered this place. It's the perfect place to end up after a long day at the beach, it's very chill and has good food and surprisingly great music. It's located 1 block from the beach. I'll be coming back here all week. Laid back spot during the day to have your coffee and dip in the pool too!
It’s all about the vibes here. Think hostel meets jungle meets tiki bar all in one. The food is delicious and the ambiance is relaxed. The drinks are inventive and delicious. I had the tequila punch (not typically my thing) and absolutely loved it. This is a place to come hang out and chat with people. Very COVID friendly as most of the Broken Shaker is outside.
This is an awesome hidden gem. It's quirky, it has great vibes and it's a great place to invite friends and truly blow them away with the fun experience. I recentlt noticed they have a nice Karaoke bar in there too! Mostly outdoor setting that feels tropical abd relaxed yet still a night out.
Great little tropical oasis with a very summery vibe. They offer two different drinks at social hour at a reduced price. The ones I tried, also from the regular menu, were really good. The burger and the fries were delicious as well. The patrons are all ages and backgrounds, which makes it more interesting.
Went here for the first time tonight, music and vibes were great. Beautiful atmosphere, service at the bar from Frederico couldn’t have been better, 12/10. Ordered Guac and chips, a burger, and a drink for under $30. Would definitely come back again. My friend and I had the best time here!
Love the vibe at the Broken Shaker in Miami Beach! Such a cool spot with great energy and amazing cocktails. Huge shoutout to Lucas — super friendly and made the experience unforgettable!
If you like the night life with good music, great food, in an outdoor setting at a hostel/hotel environment, then 'Broken Shaker' is for you. I ordered the Shaker Burger (thick!) with fries and a Red Stripe...all worth the price. I couldn't wait to bite into the juicy burger (as you can see, sorry lol) and normally take a photo prior to indulging on a food product for reviewing purposes. The place was clean, fast service, and a lively atmosphere, with hostel patrons at the pool and regular guests at the bar. 'Broken Shaker' is located at the Freehand Hostel (Indian Creek Hotel). Walk through the front entrance and zip along to the seating area where you'll be greeted and seated by friendly staff. I also ordered a 'Scotch of Thrones', which was a mighty choice and belongs on the throne of fine drinks. Plenty of seating available in the dining area and around the pool. Easily accessible by taking the Collins Express trolley to the stop on 27th Street & Collins (in front of Triton Supermarket) and then crossing street, making your way to Freehand Hostel.
Before I came to this place I’ve had heard great things about it, I must say that I was not disappointed the staff was friendly and helpful the ambience is amazing and the Decor makes you feel welcome like in your own private Oasis. They have three different bars with different music choose the one you like the most, but I strongly recommend to seat by the Pool. They have GREAT cocktails and the beers are priced just right we also ordered the Brussel sprouts and the taste was amazing. Definitely coming back. IG @Isaacpaiz
This is a locals' favorite place for a great vibe and amazing drinks! Price point right on target. I tried the burger it was delicious 🤤. The drinks are always amazing! Happy hour punch $6 per drink. I also tried The Smile ( tequila) it will make you SMACK your momma lol 😆🤣. The vibe here is always pleasant. I highly recommend. It's a local 💎 plus excellent customer service 🤩
Super chill vibe, my friends and I loved the pool 😍 personally, I only wished there were more frozen drinks options, and the burgers and tacos were pretty good. We really loved it and will definitely return next time we visit Miami Beach😋 we went at 4pm and stayed until 8pm, super nice staff 💓💓💓
Such a cool place to catch a delicious cocktail and a equally delicious meal. I had the Tropical Orgasm cocktail and the Falafel Burger for dinner. This place was really hopping. The staff was very friendly. If you're in Miami the Broken Shaker is a must try. You won't be disappointed.
This is one of my favorite places in Miami Beach - the setup around the pool, lights and great cocktails make for a very nice ambiance and lounge experience. Before the pandemic they also had a restaurant in the back part of the space, not sure if it's back. The whole place is large enough for you to walk around if you wanted. And I believe sometimes there is a DJ. It's actually in the back of a hostel and you enter through the hostel lobby, which somehow makes it even cooler to me.
The Broken Shaker bar offers a laidback ambiance that sets the perfect tone for a relaxed evening. The happy hour provided a delightful experience with appealing choices, and the service was commendable. Overall, a great spot for those seeking a chill atmosphere with excellent service and a satisfying happy hour.
Went for the Crawfish boil for father's day and had a blast! Of course whenever we go to Miami Beach I have to deal with a form of rudeness and incompetence. This time it was in the form of a waitress that directed me to a hostess that didn't even know what a crawfish boil was let alone a crawfish. I had to repeat myself 4 times and still I don't think she knew what I was referring to. Aside from that-- Once we got settled our experience with the Broken Shaker was great. Our waitress was awesome, and very attentive. The music playing in the background was nostalgic rock and beach vibes. We sat under an umbrella table pool side. We were visited by a chill local green iguana from the garden. We ordered 3 pounds of delicious southern cajun crawfish and 1 pound of vietnamese crawfish. In addition, we ordered cajun southern potato salad and cajun elote. Both were seasoned perfectly and did not last long. Overall, this was a memorable experience at the broken shaker and we will return. We hope they continue to do more events similar to this.
Such a lovely place! Very popular with the Instagram crowd. Cocktails of the day are somewhat of a bargain (this is Miami...) and delicious. Opening times are misleading; they serve drinks before lunch, but the full bar with cocktails is only later in the afternoon. Great place to hang out in.
I don’t normally like pinacolada’s because I despise coconut juice, but this place makes a decent one! Doesn’t tastes milky at all! Came here on a midsummer Friday evening, the vibe was chill, service was good and the ambient music was great for chilling next to the pool with nice cocktails.
Now this place did blew my post-pandemic mind, which isn't that hard after months of self-confinement eating cheese crackers. Two good friends took us there for dinner, and at first I didn't know what to expect from a menu as rootless as a straw stuck in the sand. To my surprise I soon realized the boldness of the chef when playing with traditional dishes, such as steamed mussels or a ceviche, and impregnating them with creativity, spices and generous amounts of citrus. The mushrooms and specially the short ribs are equally mesmerizing. If you like rich deserts, you have to give in to the mighty brownie. The place itself is super cosy and the atmosphere is kinda New-Yorkish, perfect to hangout with friends and have a great time.
Had the rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding here. It was the PERFECT atmosphere for that type of event. Private area, beautifully decorated and excellent food!! Several family members are trying to track down the brand of the jam/preserves that was served with the crackers, they couldn't get enough!!
Shaker bar has one of the best atmospheres I have ever visited for a hotel/bar/restaurant whatever. A great place to chill in Miami. Highly recommend. Thank you hariel for the excellent service
The bar is located in the backyard of the hostel and beside the pool. It has more of a casual and relaxed atmosphere, suitable for group gatherings or events, or even for couples to enjoy their drinks and some peace and quiet. There’s also the Eagle Room that has a DJ and you can enjoy some music and dance by paying a fee. The service can be slow at times, to the point you think they might’ve forgot about you. The drinks are delicious and they definitely hit the spot.
The most unique vibe lately! I have never hit with such a different vibe at a diner in 2021. This place offers very well planned menu of drinks - Ricky Goes to Philly is a "must-try"! I also liked the seating, it's very cultural. Something I didn't like is the food menu choices - it was very less to choose from. Nevertheless, I loved this restaurant and would like a revisit.
Great ambiance, service and food. Better to go later around 730 or later when it’s dark for a better setting. Expected a lot out of the drinks due to the reviews but they were not as good as some other spots we visited. Still enjoyed them. Highly recommend the kimchi chicken sandwich. Cool spot with a different vibe. Setting around the block they are on is a little touchy at night, but might have been due to the construction in the area at the time. Once you’re in then you feel like you’re in a different place
lt;dr: If you’re looking for a good drink and casual atmosphere with friends, Broken Shaker won’t disappoint. Broken Shaker is a solid cocktail place. Hint: order your cocktails „spicy“ if you’re not a sweet person like me. Recommendation: their take on the Margarita is balanced, just enough spice, and overall very yummy. It outshone all other drinks we had. Ambience is typical for Florida: a poolside atmosphere. This pool features a massive disco ball which adds a nice touch. The chairs are a bit worn out (one was broken and replaced instantly). Staff is nice and very quick.
Recently had a solo staycation on south beach and was really looking forward to getting my drink on here without worrying how to get home. I was definitely disappointed to learn that this is more of a “sit and chill” place. Everyone is seated at their own table, like what would be expected at a restaurant, and that’s pretty much where they stay. There was no one mingling, no interactions amongst patrons… at least not around 11 pm on a Saturday. 🤷🏻♀️ The spicy margarita was skipable and the coco puff old fashion would be a great after dinner drink.
Such a cool vibe! Also a fun young crowd and great music. Food was good, drinks OK the automatic grat is lame because then they don’t really try (like at all) Host didn’t smile once and server stood around waiting for payment like he was trying to get rid of you. In sum, cool place to bring your cool friends but from a service industry perspective a C- at best.
A very chill spot. Drinks are very expensive so keep that in mind. But the location itself is a vibe if your with friends or a date.
We were looking for a place that served cocktails before going out to a late night dinner. The Broken Shaker was close to our hotel. Perfect. ATMOSPHERE: They're located on the grounds of the Freehand Miami hotel. It's a very quaint setting reminiscent of an Italian courtyard, full of lush foliage, fountains, sofas, a small pool and lounge chairs. The vibe was relaxing with dim lighting and chill music via garden speakers. Clientele was a mix of ages, all well-behaved. No dress code. BEVERAGE: A glass of Chardonnay and Old Fashioned rang up north of $30 which included an automatic tip. SERVICE: You have to (or we had to, anyway) walk up to the bar to order drinks. I didn't see any servers walking around. If there were any, they were few and far between. FACT: Other locations include Chicago, York and Los Angeles. OVERALL: Not into the club scene and crowds? This place is for you!
Came here solo on a Tuesday evening. Got four items: - Shrimp ceviche (6/10) - Crispy cheese mushroom taco (9.5/10) - Curry shrimp skewer (8/10) - Down the Rabbit Hole cocktail (6/10) Don’t leave without ordering the MUSHROOM TACO!!! That and the crispy fried plantains that came with the ceviche (the ceviche itself was fine, but could’ve used more seasoning/salt). If the fried plantains were offered as a side dish, I would’ve ordered them! I wish the mezcal flavor had come through more. The shrimp skewer definitely tasted like curry and needed slightly more salt. Are four seasoned grilled shrimp worth $14? You decide for yourself.
This is a good place to kick back and have a decent cocktail. Very relaxing atmosphere with a community garden, pool and dimmed lights. My only complaint is we didn’t really receive attentive service and it’s a little awkward to get to seating area. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nightcap or a place to relax.
This bar/outdoor lounge was a nice surprise! The brick patio is mostly covered, there's ample seating, and the atmosphere is lively without being obnoxious (Friday at 730p). The drinks appear to be well made and the bartenders friendly. The patio contains a fountain with single/couple seating, with larger tables around the periphery. There's a strong tropically whimsical vibe (lush vegetation). Just a few steps away is a small pool, seemingly for hotel guests. But it adds to the secluded feel of the place. Definitely recommend for a non-pretentious experience.
Nice place with a selection of cool cocktails We had their house special (it’s was 1/2 price) Also, their falafel sliders are really really good and if you are there , you have to try them. Note: please pay attention as the meter is heavily enforced , I mean , mine expired at 10:59 pm and I got a ticket at 11:02 pm
We visited the joint during happy hours. There were no servers, and we had to line up at the bar to order food. The bartender was very friendly and helped us with our orders. Although the food quality was so-so, but the drink was delicious. I ordered a cocktail, and it was super refreshing.
Ambiente relajado. Fui un jueves, imagino que si hubiese ido viernes o sábado estaría más animado. Pero igual la música muy bien, el lugar ideal para conversar. Cócteles bien
Went on a Wednesday night for cocktails based on the recommendation from Reddit. The ambiance is definitely the highlight of the place but the cocktails just average. Had the Toro Rosso (couldn't taste the watermelon), the Oaxacan Sling Blade (couldn't taste the pomegranate or pineapple), and Down the Rabbit Hole (which was just OK with the ginger). The drinks weren't liquor or flavor forward which, when people recommend a cocktail bar, I expect the drinks to be (one way or the other). We got the guacamole and asked if they could make it spicy, but they said they couldn't which makes me think it's not freshly made (and chips were a bit salty). Overall an OK place for drinks (wouldn't call it a cocktail bar) with great ambiance.
Came here because it was #32 Best Bar in NA 2022… not sure how it made the list. Yeah it’s a cool casual concept for a bar with a yard/pool. But that shouldn’t be enough to make a ranking… The service was non-existent. Two waiters for the huge area is way understaffed - after 15min of waiting I had to go to find a waiter myself. The drinks took 15min to make. The taste of drinks was just ok… had the Reese Old Fashioned and Tropical storm. Would give both 5/10. The atmosphere is cool though for a casual night out. Not a fan of mandatory 20% service surcharge. Despite it being a standard in Miami, unfortunately.
Recently stayed at this hostel and found it to be a great value for money, especially considering its amenities and location. The highlight for me was the pool. However, it's worth noting that the rooms could use a bit more attention to cleanliness as they were quite dusty, and the building itself feels a bit old. That said, the beds were comfortable. Just a 5-minute walk from the beach and close to bus stops, making it super convenient to venture around
It's a small, cozy place.. but the price for an order of fries, 3 tacos , & a small adult drink is extreme. I ordered a simple passion fruit margarita, and my server decided to ring it up his own way. Can get busy, and packed. I went solo and was sat immediately. Groups may have to wait a bit for seating. Overall the food was simple, not worth the ticket price
Let me start off by saying my drink was excellent (the What's up doc cocktail) and the vibes were really cool. I loved the space - it felt like i was in a cool backyard party. The 3 stars is because the service was truly atrocious. We waited 30m to be served, then when we tried to order a second drink later, the server completely forgot about us for a good 45m (we timed it). She made eye contact twice with us and clearly realized she forgot about us, but the drink never came. We decided to leave and asked for the check, which took another 30m. Great drinks but not sure the lack of basic service is worth the visit.
This one is hard to rate for me. It's a shell of the amazing bar & restaurant it used to be. I was so disappointed. (I understand the operators changed last year). If you've been a fan over the last 12 years or so, skip it; you'll be bummed. If it's your first time, it will hit differently. It's still a little unique. The food was basic and pricey but delicious. The bartenders were nice.
Really pretty but everything is super overpriced. Glenfiddich 15 for over 200 bucks is laughable, especially with a liquor store literally across the street. Service was okay but nothing special. Cocktails were good but 18 dollars was a bit much. The same things would have been 10 bucks in Saint Paul with impeccable service. Additionally, the music was so loud you couldn't carry on a convo and it wasn't like it was a live band-- just old 90s stuff. Pretty though.
After eating at 27 restaurant, we headed over to Broken Shaker. The atmosphere was very chill and relaxing however, same problem with service. We waited over a half hour to put in our drink order. It was a cold night and we asked if they could turn up the heaters but the server said NO. He offered to bring us a blanket but never did. In fact after we ordered our drink we didn’t see him at all until we needed the check. Again, 20 % service fee added. We saw the host clearing tables and dropping off drinks. We ordered a hot tea. It came in a glass with 4 ounces of water and barely hot for $4. My drink, coral castle was excellent. $25 tab for one drink and hot tea.
Patio in the back of a hostel style hotel. The vibes are decent. Felt like a place for college students. Cocktails are way overpriced and taste average. They tack on a ridiculous automatic gratuity of 20% on all orders. We went to a fine dining restaurant the next day in Brickell Key and their auto gratuity was less despite drinks being the same price.
Nice rooftop but nothing special. I’d say it’s a bit expensive for what it is. Even when some of the staff were friendly, it doesn’t seem real. We ordered just two can beers and fries and we paid US$36 which I consider a little bit too much. You’re not even allowed to smoke cigarette in the balcony. I wouldn’t recommend this rooftop for your first option.
I was honestly expecting a lot given the high ratings and recommendations from different sources. Maybe this place is a hit-or-miss. We got seated beside the pool, even though I reserved for Courtyard *not* the pool (worth noting that we were late to the reso, but there were a number of empty tables still that were further from the pool). It was a very bland environment to say the least. We came for drinks after dinner ~9pm on a Friday, and it was not too packed. I think the after-dark environment isn't very good. There's no lighting at the tables (it would help to just have those cheap non-burning candles). You're literally sitting on lawn tables beside a hotel pool in the dark. It feels like you're in someone's backyard. It's cute and very unassuming, and probably amazing in the day time or around sunset, but at night probably more suited for those in their early 20s and having a standing room situation than seated. Next we got our server coming around really soon after we sat down to take our order (<1min). Ok that's fine, we ordered two drinks and was still looking at food. The server never came back around for over 10 mins because a bartender delivered our drinks. We asked the bartender for water, never received it. Every other table had a jug of water, so it seemed like the server just forgot, assuming good intent. Drinks were fine. Then we got our food order in. It was the labneh dip (Chermoula, olive oil, zaatar, pita). Maybe I just had higher expectations of the food presentation -- I expected it to be presented quite similar to any hummus and pita dish, but it looked really sad. It was a single pita with a to-go sauce container of the yogurt mixed with all the ingredients above, except usually with hummus at a restaurant setting, you'd expect the dip to be in a larger container so that it mixes easier instead of having all the seasoning sit at the top. There were no utensils provided, either. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of it. Beyond this, the service just felt very laissez-faire, they really didn't care whether or not you had a good time. That's probably fine if the drinks were $10 and the service charge (which gets added to many Miami Beach establishments) was only 15%, but the food/drinks pricing and the 20% service is very hefty for the lack of real service. The only saving grace during our time here was The Eagle Room which is the indoors, 2nd floor space above the hotel restaurant - it's accessible from this outdoor space. The DJ was awesome, the crowd, vibe, and service were much more positive than Broken Shaker. If you're 21 and young you may enjoy with Broken Shaker, but if you prefer a classier experience, head over to The Edition for a more higher end outdoor space with better service, it's only a short walk away.
Drinks had to be forced down, food was good but our waitress didn’t really cater to us at all, she was even on FaceTime, it kind of made the experience not great… we even saw someone leave due to not being taken care of :/ there was only 3 tables to tend to… & it wasn’t happening.
Bartender was extremely nice, but for the servers wouldn’t even bother to look our way gave everyone menus except for for me and my sister even though I tried to get several of the servers attention, (we were the only black customers there) it seemed like they couldn’t be bothered, would never go back there again
We were so excited to grab drinks and some apps after a long day of biking around the city. At around 8pm, we put our name and phone number in for a table and the hostess said the wait was about 45 minutes and we would get a text when our table was ready. About 50 minutes later we went up to ask how much longer the wait was and she had never put our name down. We then waited another 45 minutes before we were finally seated after 9:30 at a sticky table that clearly had not been wiped down. Worried the kitchen may close soon, we put in our food order first, and then our drinks the second time our server came around. It took over 20 minutes for us to get our drinks after we ordered. Around 10:15, our server came to check on us to see how everything was and we still didn't have our food. By the time our food came to the table, the fries were soggy. Overall this was some of the slowest service I have ever received, and I was unimpressed with the food. The drinks were strong and delicious, but if I am paying $18 for a cocktail, I would expect the service to be a lot better.
