Iguanas Ranas Taqueria Middletown Reviews
The friendliest place you can go with food that will absolutely knock your sock off and then some! Every dish is beautifully presented and sooooo delicious 🤤
Love the food here! I got carnitas tacos. I appreciate the amount of cilantro they add and the salsa is delicious. The chips and salsa are also a must!!!!
Really good place! I had the suicide burrito, and although it really wasn't very spicy at all (kind of a disappointment), it was one of the tastiest burritos I've ever had. And, it was huge. Like "as big as your head". They didn't have horchata the day I went, but the jamaica was also pretty good. 10/10 would suicide again
They used to be on Main St. but then shut down for a while and I am so glad they came back. Their burritos are enormous and delicious.
Can't wait to go back authentic Mexican food. The atmosphere was great the hostess was engaging and very personable. The food was delicious.
I’m so surprised to find nobody here on a Saturday night. Birra was superb and the staff was so incredibly friendly!! Thank you guys!! It was delicious!!
Julio I meat for the first time tonight. I ordered a burrito and it was awesome. The portions were unbelievable, tasted very home cooked. Not to mention good conversation while I waited for my food from the owner himself. If you do not try this place, you are missing out!
What a gem! This family-owned Mexican restaurant is a true culinary treasure. The Martinez family has something special - authentic recipes prepared with love! The California burrito and taco salad are absolute showstoppers! The lively atmosphere and welcoming patio make every visit feel like a fiesta. You can taste the passion in every bite, and it's heartwarming to see their family working together. A must-visit spot for anyone craving genuine, delicious Mexican food made with real heart and tradition!
The service and attention 10/10. Very friendly and sweet!! Good came out quickly. Now… the food… OMG!!!!! The chicken empanadas are very tasteful. My boyfriend ordered the Moctezuma’s Revenge Hamburger. At first it looks like ordinary burger but it is bursting with diced, spicy, and flavor. The birria burrito is to die for and it’s HUGE. Definitely recommend!!! Very authentic mom/dad restaurant.
If you want authentic Mexican food, I've yet to find a better place locally than Iguanas Ranas. The food is prepared in a traditional style, the tortillas are fresh, and the drinks are excellent. Add that to the fact that you'd be hard-pressed to find more reasonable prices, and you have an excellent night out. Oh, and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. Two recommendations--Chile Verde Burrito and the taco platter (The Al Pastor is something I've never tasted outside of Mexico and the Southwestern US. Rare for New England, for certain.) I've included pictures of both.
On my way to my niece's swim meet at Wesleyan (Freeman Center), I ordered birria tacos (take-out). The woman who served me was friendly, and the service was fast. The tacos were freshly made, the beef was moist, and the birria consommé was good. Extra cilantro was provided as requested. The decor was cozy and authentic, and included a framed picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe. -- Who doesn't love Our Lady of Guadalupe? -- This is a cozy, family owned restaurant. The photo is of the tacos at the swim meet. One of the parents commented that my birria tacos looked delicious! Overall, I recommend the birria tacos at Iguanas Ranas, and I would return if I'm in Middletown again.
I was never the biggest iguana ranas fan back to the days when they were on main st. Now they are on Church st, the inside was odd, the tvs were off and they had a bar but no seats, a few tables, parking is on street only. I tried the fajita burrito, I can't say I was impressed at $18.75. I'm not sure who was cutting the vegetables but they did not do a good job. The meat didn't really taste like much nor was it meat that I would normally expect from a fajita. Good luck to them, but puetro and la placita are both better and cheaper.
Absolutely NOT worth $20. The burrito although large was a prime example of quantity over quality. There was no fresh pico de gallo, the sauce on top tastes like it came out of a jar of Tostitos salsa, no guacamole, the inside of the burrito was mostly rice and beans which had a very mediocre flavor and the meat was almost non existent. In addition to that you have to park on the street in a sketchy neighborhood, the interior leaves much to be desired and the heat was off making for a very cold eating experience both literally and figuratively. There are several other great Mexican restaurants in Middletown that offer a warm welcoming dining experience, beautiful food presentation, free chips along with delicious homemade salsa, the burritos have fresh pico de gallo and guacamole all for the same price or even less than here. I would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone.
