El Barbapedana Milano Reviews
Absolute little gem of a restaurant in the porta genova area, easily reachable from the central part of Milan and the Duomo. Delicious fried bread and lard, an excellent risotto Milanese and a delicious pana cotta, plus great options for wine by the glass kindly selected by the host. In a sea of not-bad but somewhat indifferent experiences dining across Italy this was a real stand out of a neighborhood restaurant.
Amazing service outdone only by the terrific food. Both the risotto (milanese) and the milanese are to die for... Best I've had in years
Gem of a place. Visited as local dishes, good reviews and close to my hotel. Arrived without reservation just after opening and already fully booked. As a solo travel asked me to try on an hour or so later, again not a problem as hotel nearby. Went back as suggested, still full but went out of their way to find me a seat. Small beautiful restaurant, super tasty food (why with only a few ingredients can yours never taste the same) and both the gentleman and young female who served me were both super friendly. If you’re in the area I would highly recommend.
Generous flavorful servings! Must try dishes are the saffron risotto with bone marrow (the sauce complements the risotto perfectly) and the fried meat balls (it was crispy on the outside and tender inside and not at all oily!) The desserts are all homemade. Panna cotta is rich and creamy, altho I think the strawberries are a little sour for me. Couldn’t really taste the mandarin in the sorbet but my partner really likes it.
I was on a mission to find ossobuco for dinner on my one day in Milan before heading south. I looked at some places but they seemed overpriced and very touristy. El Barbapedana is a small restaurant a short distance from the busy bustle of the Navigli canals. I made a reservation for one person earlier in the day as I was solo traveling. I arrived at 9 pm for dinner. I went right for the ossobuco with Milanese risotto and it was incredible. The veal, the marrow, the risotto, all sensational. The chocolate salami was decadent and the perfect sweet ending. The waiter was friendly, patient, and welcoming. And the best part was that every table around me was speaking Italian. Quite the contrast from the canals of Navigli where every table eating around me was speaking English while I was enjoying my pre-dinner drink. I'll make El Barbapedana my first stop next time I'm in Milan! It was a lovely, homey, and delicious experience.
A quaint small romantic place serving traditional Italian cuisine. The presentation of the food may look unassuming but the food is delicately prepared. The schnitzel is not dry nor oily. The ossobuco melts in your mouth. The tiramisu is light and moist. The owner even opened a new bottle of wine in front of me though I just ordered a glass. The attention to details made every guest feel special.
