Materia Milano Reviews
I went to Materia because my regular restaurant was closed: it was a very pleasant surprise. Excellent pizza, pleasant service. The restaurant is much better inside than what one can imagine from outside. I’ll definitely will go back.
Truly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had! myself and my partner found this beautiful spot hidden away whilst on a food tour of Milan, and just had to pop back that evening to get a real taste of the menu. All is extremely fresh with the menu changing to cater to the local produce available at that time. This is a must try if your looking for a fresh, authentic Italian pizzeria!
A very reach pizza menu list, built around 3 main options: the classics, the specials, the creatives. We can feel there is a real passion about pizza culture and a will to enriach by adding a creative approach to the traditional recipes. There is also a quite long list of beers available, both draft and bottleed, which h'goes away from the traditional lagger, into more tasty beers: IPA, Amber, Weiss, ... Service was fast and good. Athmosphere is nice and neat. It could have been a bit more cosy, but this not usual in modern Italian restaurants. We probably found here one of the best pizza places in Milan.
An exceptional dining experience right next to our home! We discovered this gem by chance and made a last-minute reservation, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and well cared for. The pizzas were outstanding, with dough that was perfectly light and flavorful—some of the best we’ve ever had. The tiramisu was a true highlight, an absolute must-try for dessert lovers. To top it all off, the complimentary limoncello at the end was a thoughtful and delightful surprise. Thank you for an unforgettable experience,we’ll definitely be back and recommending you to others!
This restaurant was a joy to be in, to enjoy great pizza at and the service was excellent even though after a long walk our Italian was not up to the task. The server worked with us and we got our order across to them. The anchovies (if you like that thing and I do) were the perfect blend of salt and fish in a bed of flavorful and rich red sauce. They accommodated a picky eater with us and took the basil off the Margherita. My wife got the traditional and the ham was the perfect supplement to the mushrooms and sausage. All of this in a small, very Italian pizzeria that makes you feel like you are in a neighborhood establishment. Overall, well worth patronizing this great location.
Wow. Just wow. Interior is contemporary but still warm and cozy. Although the tabes are quite close to each other you won’t be distracted by other guests’ conversations. The staff is doing their job but not really friendly - a bit disappointing. As for the food, the variety of pizza is incredible. Unconventional combinations, seasonal ingredients, and lots of creativity, passion, and professionalism. I assume that traditional pizzas might not be that impressive so I’d recommend trying something from the seasonal or contemporary menu. P.S.: do book a table in advance as the place seemed quite crowded on a weekday.
We have been in Italy for 4 days and this was, by far, the best pizza that we had during that time. Dessert was amazing as well, and even the bread that they served as as “starter” was one of the best home made bread I have eaten in my life. If not the best. Service was also very friendly, they spoke very good English and when we were leaving they gave us a bread as a gift.
In the 1st trip this year to milan we found no restaurant to satisfy us. But this time was different. We stopped to Materia since we liked very much the look from the outside. And it was not a bad decision since the food was also tasty and interesting. We liked also the girl that served us but the maitre was a bit too stiff and seemed bother by us when we asked something not so usual - to bring some tomato sauce near the white pizza (it is only for the thick crust since we don t like to eat it simple). Anyway, the food and the ambient worth a stop here.
Good but not great. From the feedbacks I was expecting more. Both the pizza that I ordered (Nuvola) and the Polpette felt tasteless. They look great in picture though. The only thing that I really enjoyed was the Weiss draft beer, but they are not made in the house. Also, they charged 2eur extra for a really tiny slice of bread, that's definitely not a covert and I didn't ask for it.
The pizza was excellent — real Italian quality. No complaints about the food. However, the manager was not welcoming. I was tired after a long walk and asked to sit on the sofa. I don’t see a problem with seating me there when the place was half empty, and simply being friendly. But no — since I was alone, the host didn’t listen and wasn’t smiling, probably because I spoke English instead of Italian. Great pizza, but I won’t be coming back and won’t be recommending this place to my friends.
The service and atmosphere was good but the food was disappointing. The key to Neapolitan pizza is to add just enough of each ingredient so that you can taste them, but none of them overpower the others. The first pizza I ordered, made with pumpkin, was truly overwhelming with spices. The second pizza, a Margherita, had a sauce which had no flavour - you could not taste any tomato in it. I went to a smaller high-rated pizzeria that evening and it was much better, matching expectations for Neapolitan pizza.
