I've travelled far and wide, from Michelin starred restaurants to legendary local haunts, and yet nowhere on earth have I had a dining experience as phenomenal as I've had at Bauhaus. The food is as fresh as it is original, often brought in shop the same day from the local farmer's market or a shoreline if looking for seafood, with everything made right for you behind the bar counter in the world's most magical little oven; how they make food ranging from pastrami banh mi sandwiches to honey covered garlic brie pastries is beyond me, but everything - everything - is exceptional. The beer and wine selection is robust with something for everyone, including house made red and white sangrias that feature fresh fruit in the glass. Hard to beat. But, what takes Bauhaus from merely being an excellent place to grab a bite to eat to being truly special are the people that infuse the space with love. Chef Tye and the hostess, Meara, make you feel as welcomed as if you were their closest friends and take care of you equally as well. Laughter and storytelling between patrons and them is a common occurrence and you just can't help but leave with a great big smile on your face, and at the heart of it all, isn't that what it's all about? This place is not to be missed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Man, easily one of my favorite places in town. Such a chill vibe, and the food and drink is always heavenly. Don't go here if you're in a hurry, but if you wanna relax and enjoy good food, vibes, and company, this is the spot. My favorite description is someone said it's like a good friend cooking for you while you hangout in the kitchen and living room. That's it.

Tony loves what he does... and it shows. This may be a bar with great food rather than a full "tapas bar" but the service, knowledge, passion and flavor are on full display. Small but pleasing beer list, truly excellent sangria. If it's still on the menu, get the burrata & cappacolla plate - served with a toasted slice of local Burnt Bakery multigrain toast. Reason enough to come to Modesto from miles around. Great place. Place is tiny - no reservations - get here early or be patient. It's worth it.

Shared an awesome variety of plates with my sales team for lunch. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and service was outstanding! Bringing my whole team back for a year end celebration and know it will be equally as special.

Food was fantastic and fresh. Make sure you have extra time the cook is also the server and bartender but Tony was energetic and keeps you entertained the whole time. We will definitely be returning.

I was only in Modesto for one night at the start of a road trip along the northern Californian and Oregon coast and I only chose it because of its links to George Lucas and American Graffiti, but this meal was exceptional. The brie bomb with icing sugar was lovely, although the pastry could have been crispier. The pork belly, though, was an amazing combination of Asian fusion flavors...very easy to get wrong...but this chef clearly knows his stuff. Highly recommended.

Stopped in on a whim and got lucky to be seated at the bar. There was plenty of room on the patio but the bar is a cool seat. The food was excellent and well prepared. I definitely need to come back to try other offerings.

I can't believe a place like this exists in Modesto - I would love to have it near me. I'm impressed that they've extended the "tapas" concept to non-Spanish cuisine. The restaurant is very intimate with all the food prep being done behind the bar. The wait staff was very helpful. While I was there, I saw several regular customers, so you know that it has to be good. I ordered the sardines with toast and picked vegetables, which was delicious and the patatas bravas, which weren't crispy enough, but the sauce was excellent. They also have a great beer and wine selection, and the saison was excellent. All the food came out quickly, as expected for a "tapas" bar. Bauhaus is definitely on my list to go back to the next time I'm in Modesto: it's worthwhile going out of your way to get here.

We love this place. In fact, I am hesitant to give it such a good rating because we want to keep it to ourselves. The food is unique, great quality, and delicious. It’s our favorite place to go before an evening play or concert downtown. The small plates are big enough to share, but small enough to order many and sample many different tastes. I also love that they offer a great beer list and decent wine list. It is very small, though, with only a few tables and seats at the bar. We have tried to go in with a party of 6 people, and there is just no room. This is a better option for two. We would also appreciate more vegetarian options.

This is a nice laid back atmosphere with amazing dishes. The beef wellington was amazing as was the shrimp in garlic and red chilie sauce. We enjoyed every bite and the PB&J bomb was the icing on the cake. So good. Would definitely visit again!

Absolutely fantastic food! The dudes who were working(I didn’t catch either of their names) were so welcoming and nice. We got a couple different pastries and all were amazing. The mushroom pastry was phenomenal and the asparagus one was a very close tie honestly. If we didn’t live out of state I would probably be here every week!!

This place is a cool restaurant to go to! They have a lot of different beers on tap and decent wine selection. The food is stellar. if you sit at the bar you watch your food being made. Everything the chef made looked so good and it made me think I wish I would of ordered that. I look forward to my next visit for sure!

Garlic brie and prosciutto pastries were amazing. Cannot wait to go back to try other dishes, but I'm already craving another garlic brie pastry. It gets to be a packed house for sure, so bring good company. Love that they allow dogs.

The food is consistently delicious. They are tapas style plates that are very reasonably priced. The pork belly, egg, and kimchi has to be my favorite so far. However, it is a special and isn't always available. They have specials daily which is nice as it brings some variety to the menu. There are about 10 beers on a rotating tap and they almost always have one that I love. I wish I could come here every day and eat!

This small local gem has delicious small bites and an excellent selection of craft beer. My favorite dishes are Asparagus topped with Parmesan and Buffalo cauliflower pastry, paired with an Aperol spritzer. Indoor dining and two patios available for outdoor seating.

K

Amazing craft beer, local flavor on display! The food is an eclectic mix. Try some new things today. Everything is fresh and so amazing! Trust their recommendations. Always worth it.

Bauhaus is a hidden gem and perfect date night for my husband and I. The gambas was cooked to perfection and the pork belly was divine. We also had the bone marrow and steak with chimmichurri which was excellent. We washed down our food with both the white and red sangria which were amazing. The service and quality were definitely 5 stars. Highly recommend trying it for the unique dining experience.

We're visiting from out of town and our friends recommended this place. Everything on the menu looked amazing so even though we didn't have reservations for 6 people, we came and waited around 30minutes for a table on a Saturday night (not bad at all!). The beers and kombucha were great and all the dishes we ordered were very well made and delicious. We ordered 2 to 3 plates of each dish and the owner lady even made sure we were not ordering too much. We're glad to find that Modesto has such a good restaurant now. We will definitely come back since it looks like their menu changes often. Kudos to the hardworking pair that runs the restaurant!

Bauhaus is an awesome spot for food, drinks, meetups, and hanging out with friends. I love the bar experience there, with the delicious food, drinks, and great conversations with friends, staff, or fellow guests. The owner, Tye Bauer and the staff are both welcoming and amazing. Very cute hole in the wall, tapas place in downtown. I wish Modesto had more places like this. Their dishes are big enough to share, a little bigger than traditional tapas but smaller than entres. Their food is all fresh and light, tasty, made right in front of your eyes. Highly recommend and will be going back for more

Before I looked online I had no idea Bauhaus was even there. Come to find out the same owners of this place own Bauer's 66 Downtown on 9th street which I haven’t been to yet either but I’ve heard of. This place is really cool. It’s really small but had a nice vibe. Everyone there was really cool they greeted me like they knew me when I got there and they made great suggestions. I’m on my vegan journey right now but my friend is not. I found this place looking up vegan restaurants that have regular food too and they have some decent vegan options. The chef cooks everything right there behind the bar. I don’t really drink but they have a good beer selection and a decent wine selection. I tried the Mushroom Al ajillo, Roasted Asparagus, the Asparagus pastry and I had an off menu dish that was rice, vegetables and vegan sausage that I can’t remember the name of but was really good. My friend had the Beef Wellington and she liked it. I will definitely be going back here because the vibe is real chill. Thank you for a nice experience.

Came here again today 11 months later and I am so wowed by this place!!! The food is amazing!!! The desserts are amazing!! Tye Bauer is awesome! I got to talk with him for a while and he is a super nice person. His wait staff is amazing! If you want to taste what a artisan chef cooks, you need to do yourself a real favor and stop in to Bauhaus!!! The atmosphere here is what people always talk about wanting while savoring delicious food! I kick myself for waiting as long as I did to dine here. This place is totally awesome!! I cannot wait to come here again!!

Bauhaus is probably my favorite restaurant in Modesto. The food is always incredible. Honestly, just close your eyes and point at the menu and you’ll love whatever you get. It’s a tight fit inside and the back patio, but that absolutely adds to the vibe. Great place for a date or a small group. I’ve even been to a private baby shower here. Love it!!!

It's nice to have a place that mixes it up from the other modesto spots. The staff was super friendly and fun. I could see some food being a miss for people which would change their experiences. The shrimp dish had raw garlic and the potatoes were not cooked fully and a little dry. BUT, if you order right, the food is excellent! The pork belly was so good! The l Kimchi and the sauce on the plate could have had a little more kick to it. The asparagus was tender and nicely seasoned. I also liked the vegan aoli and parm that was on it. The pork tenderloin had great flavors paired with it, the goats cheese with fruit was really nice with it. Definitely will go again!

We recently moved near downtown Modesto. Each week we walk to two or three restaurants to try out for lunch or dinner (breakfasts will come soon). The Bauhaus just made it to the top of our list. The place is small, but the outdoor patio doubles the space. The food is served tapas style. We tried the pork tenderloin, beer sausage, prosciutto pastry, and brie with walnuts and blackberries pastry. All were great. The tenderloin was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We look forward to having those dishes again and trying more. Our favorite beer of the night was an orange ale. We returned here last night (8/5) for dinner and again ate on the patio. I added a picture of the pork tenderloin on puffed pastry . We had the brie pastry for dessert again, but we ate it all before I remembered to snap a photo. Oh, well...The third time here, 12/21/17 we brought two of our sons. The outdoor heater was out of propane so we sat at the bar. Ty could here orders from around the room. Everything was tasty. We'll be back.

Visit this spot a few times and everybody will know your name. I recommend sitting at the counter, if there's a seat available. Great for vegans and non-vegans alike, a lot of items on the menu can be veganized. Chef Tye Bauer had one of his restaurants featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. If you are a foodie, this place is for you! Seasonal menu and nightly specials. Craft beers and wine available. Kombucha is often on tap, as well.

Great experience here! Just wish the seating was more comfortable at the big table, but I'm like a Umpa Loompa with my short legs and bad back. 😆 Steak with cilantro chimichuri and the asain style pork belly were my favorites! Love Nicole and Miara as they are always happy! it gets crowded but worth the wait and great for catching up with friends or date night when ur not rushed.
