The Saltner Wine & Cicchetti

Great wine, great wine accompaniments, great atmosphere, great company, and at a price point much lower than any similar businesses in the entire San Gabriel Valley. As a wine enthusiast- especially European wines- it's pretty difficult to find anywhere with a selection that's better than big brand wine stores. The Saltner is refreshing in this manner, having a massive list with options for all over the globe and very few options over $50. Additionally, the service has always been great. We love have a glass with Julie on Sunday afternoons and she's a wonderful source of information about wine options. It's pretty simple, if you enjoy good wine, you should be able to really enjoy The Saltner. See you on Sunday!

Had a lovely time enjoying the wine and the small plates. Some wine is not on the menu so be sure to ask. The food she makes is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend coming here.

Lovely little wine tasting space, got to meet the owner while we were there, she was so much more than accommodating for our late night group of 7, even keeping her kitchen open long enough to quickly order some bites from her fabulous tapas menu. Definitely coming here again!

The meals are modest in size & of superior quality. Owner knows her wines & can make recommendations for those who like to explore. Atmosphere delightful & service always courteous.

Love this place! Honestly my favorite in old town monrovia. Small plates allow you to try and share many items on the menu. Highlights are everything. But I constantly get steak crostini and Tuscan beef stew. Salmon last night was cooked to perfection.

I swear you feel like you're at home when you're here. Julie, the owner takes time to talk with her guests make them feel special. This restaurant has an excellent wine menu, with many things that are not listed so I recommend telling the staff what you like and letting them pick a flight for you. The FOOD is out of this world splendid. Everything is made from scratch and made to order and absolutely DELICIOUS. I swear I was raving about the food all night. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Perfect for a cozy date night, or getting wine with the girls. My wife and I got 2 plates, 2 flights, 2 full glasses of wine, and 2 glasses of vermouth and spent $150.

Not only did I have some delicious wine, the food here was just absolutely spectacular. I live 40 mi from here and I cannot wait to come back here again the owner and the staff here were incredible and I have to say this is one of the best food and wine experience has I can ever think of that I've ever had.

Decided to check out this place after work. The owner was lovely and served us. I asked if she could recommend a bottle in the 40 dollar range. She delivered and was also so very lovely. The wine was great and the food was so very good too! I wish I was closer but I will still come back when I have the time again! Monrovia is a lovely area :)

I even wrote a song for Julie and the wine bar. How I get treated is the last time I go in Julie tells me that she was told that I was banging my hand on the bar and yelling and screaming like some kind of lunitic when there was a band playing there the week before or so. She said I terrified all of her staff. I told her this is absolutley not true and that the drummer and the singer/sax guy and I were all talking after their set and everything was great. She said she has it all on camera and I asked to see it and prove it and she would not show me. She just yelled at me and talked very mean to me and told me to never come back. Just like that. Very witchey to say the least. No justice or truth.

I regret to say that the service was slow--we waited over 30 minutes to be asked if we'd like drinks. We ordered the chef's meat and cheese plate. It came out missing an item. And it came with insufficient bread. And there was very little meat and cheese. The food tasted fine, but there were enough negatives in our experience to earn one star.

The person who sat us, was explaining the wine choices while commenting rudely about her staff saying the word “shit “in her sentences. They forgot to bring us our 4 ounce $15 wine, we had to get up to ask for it. We ordered the stuffed mushroom for $9.50, it was the size of the small packaged store bought mushrooms you get at the grocery store, needless to say, our bill was $78, for two mushrooms, and two glasses of wine, they charged us double for one of the wines. Stay away from this place if you’re hungry. customer service is terrible, the food portions are laughable, and the wine is over priced!

Unfortunately, the experience was going incredibly well to tell the truth. However, the waitress/owner of the establishment “Julie” was very clearly drunk, and overcharged for our items. Now normally this would be no issue, however after explaining that we had an extra item added to our receipt, she went on a very loud yelling rant about how we are trash and couldn’t remember what we ordered. This of course embarrassed my group in front of the rest of the establishment, and we were promptly kicked out. I don’t normally call for this sort of action, but to be honest, she made my friend cry because of her lack of professionalism. If Julie cannot remain professional during her shifts or at the very least remain sober, then she should not work with costumers.
