Great food, but plan on a possible 45 minute wait. Sign-in at the podium. Ask for the estimated time for your name to be called. We walked around the museum grounds and gift shop to kill time. We'll eagerly pay the $3 entrance fee next time. Love that the cafe offers a 1/2 sando and salad. French Dip was A+, shrimp cocktail had a neato herby flavor A+, and the shrimp and chips had a light and tasty beer batter, A+ here, too. The bar only serves beer and wine, no mixers. I completely forgot to snap photos of our meal...next time. After dining at a super table next to the window, we walked through the parking lot, along the boat dock and then out to the boardwalk. Here, I remembered to snap some photos of Morro Rock and the bay. Loved this lunch and easy walk. Perfect way to spend a couple of hours for locals, visitors and pets. New review: Had a fun-filled lunch. Our server Gavin was top notch and made us feel so very welcomed. We sat on the outdoor patio with a stellar view of the northern portion of the Back Bay portion of Morro Bay. So beautiful! Our food was just as awesome. The light and crispy beer batter on our fried fish 'n chips and mixed seafood plate was very yummy. Soooo yummy. All of the food was delicious, salad, fries and even the house tartar sauce. I highly recommend a visit. It has ADA parking, entry and seating. Dogs are welcome on the patio. 5 star establishment!!

I arrived here around 1:45p, lots of people waiting to be seated. Some local friends highly recommended the fish and chips so I decided to wait for my turn on the list. It was definitely worth it, the fish came perfectly covered in a thin tempura like batter, it was not soggy but deliciously crunchy. The tartar sauce tasted like homemade and the chips were very good as well. I had a small bowl of the Clam Chowder and it was loaded with chunky pieces of clam meat and not too much potatoes. The location is great too right across from a small marina. My waitress was very friendly and attentive. This is a keeper!

When staying at Morro Bay State Park this is the go-to restaurant in the harbor for dinner. Dog friendly as long as your dog behaves. Excellent food fresh and the service is the best.

What can I say, it was all good! Friendly service, good food and by the ocean. You can't ask for much more. Its a bit pricey but worth the wait and food.

On vacation and checked with the Chamber of Commerce. They recommended this place. I see why. The burrito was under $10 and was plenty for two. The best part was that they were dog friendly.

What a relaxed, friendly place to eat! There are not too many places you can walk into with a potentially grumpy toddler and expect a warm reception. Both the staff and the other diners at the Bayside Cafe were super friendly to our party, and it was enough to turn that kiddo's frown into a smile! The food was great and quick as well. Would really recommend the California Chowder, the green chili soup lightens and brightens the clam chowder without taking away any of the richness.

Worth waiting for! No reservations you put your name and the # in your group and wait. When they call your name you all better be there. The servers all love their job, and there job is to make you happy. So that is where it starts. Everything on the menu is good so pick something and don't worry 😁 you will be happy.

Thus place was a pleasant find. Drive thru the state park and you end up there. Unassuming place, across from the channel. Good for sunsets, etc. Outside dining or waterside. Try the green chili soup itz 5 stars... add pepper for a small "bite". Yes u can taste the green chilies. Home made tuna sandwich is great. Try 1/2 sandwich and soup, especially. on a Morro Bay cooling fall day. Highly recommended. Try them u won't be disappointed! BONUS - Very reasonable too.

Love a good chowder, and this California chowder seamed interesting. It just them mixing their clam chowder with ther green chili soup, but it's damn good. It a little spicy, so saves you adding Tabasco, and the green chili soup brings a lot to the game.

The California Chowder tasted so fresh and had just a lil zing right at the end of the bite. We tasted one of each tacos: tri tip, pork Chile Verde, chicken, and fish. Each one came with its own unique flavor and you can't beat the size. A sweet and a tangy salsa was also served with the plates to finish off each Taco. Enjoyed the beach side ambiance as well as the interior of the Cafe. This place is a must see if in Morro Bay or if visiting near by.

A recent trip to Morro Bay, CA had my husband and I looking for a place to eat that wasn't along the Embarcadero. Looking on the map, we found an out of the way cafe across the street from Morro Bay State Park called Bayside Cafe. I read a little bit of the history of this out of the way cafe and so we decided to try it out. The first thing, of course, was the location. We both loved the location. Next to the marina, you see the private boats docked and of to one side the Bayside Cafe. Not a large establishment but definitely well known. As we approached, we saw both outside seating and inside seating. Greeted by the host and some staff, the environment was warm and welcoming. Everyone had a smile, wonderful! We were seated next to the window with a great view. Actually, to be entirely honest, don't think any seat in the cafe had a bad view. looking through the menu, I couldn't decide and my husband was torn between the fish and chips and the crab cake sandwich. Once I heard the specials, one being seafood tacos, I was sold. My husband opted for the crab cake sandwich. Both were delicious and light, and satisfying. Once we finished our lunch, we decided to take a little stroll arounds the grounds-- both around the cafe and across the street at the Morro Bay State Park. Starting at the state park/golf course (beautiful by the way) we noticed two huge birds just wondering around. As we got closer we were both shocked to see that these to large creatures were turkeys. Who expects to see turkeys wondering around Morro Bay? We certainly did not. They were beautiful. We made our way back across the street and meandered around the cafe and noticed some stairs that led to a trail...we are always up for an adventure. As we climbed the stairs and followed the trail, we reached the top of the hill located somewhat behind the cafe. The view was AMAZING! I know that there are gorgeous views of the bay but, for us, this was breathtaking. I included a couple of those pics as well. If you ever make it to Morro Bay, stop in at the Bayside Cafe, the staff is happy, the food is fresh and delicious, and view is breathtaking. We will definitely be returning to this little gem.

Not only does the place have charm and warmth, the food is sure to give you foodgasms! Classic American cuisine paired with a diner kinda feel on the water near the woods! What more could you want? The Boysenberry Crisp is a MUST, so save room from the yummy fish you'll order 1st. Fish n Chips = yummy! My rating is really a 4.75. Excellent location and staff we very attentive and accommodating- mixing umbrellas and heaters to squeeze in 2 more guests who arrived late. My husband had shrimp cocktail which had large, tender shrimp and well seasoned cocktail sauce. I had the scallops on fried green tomatoes which wasn’t very tasty. Scallops were ok but too much sauce and fried green tomatoes didn’t have much flavor (but do they ever)? IPA was nice and they offer 2 sizes. Overall, a very pleasant place on a nice day with nice views of the marina, bay & surrounding eucalyptus- and walking distance from the Morro Bay Star Campground!

We have been here before to this little hidden place and think that it is worth the short wait. The halibut special was good. Their clam chowder is also very good! Service was excellent! The Chocolate Indulgence was excellent dessert! Good job!!

We love to take our RV to the bay parking lot here. A highlight of the experience is lunch at the Bayside Cafe. Friendly service, interesting specials, and some great vegetarian selections. The Cobb Salad is as good as it gets, fresh with an absolutely beautiful presentation. Portions are generous and service is prompt. Even when it is busy, the wait for food is only 15 minutes. Grab a couple lawn chairs and you can eat right on the water or overlooking the colorful marina. The fish in the fish and chips is not as flavorful as we prefer, but there are plenty of other options.

Fantastic breakfast. I can't wait till I get there again.

Has been quite a few years since my last visit. They have wonderful food, not very big but they have patio seating. They are known for their clam chowder's which I had last time, my wife had it this time. Burgers are tasty and they have other good selections. Restrooms are towards back parking lot, close to golf course and State Park with RV campsites.

Great little restaurant off the beaten path. Food and service are both fantastic. Best part for us is the dog friendly outdoor seating area. They brought our dog a bowl of water and the also have hamburger patties for the pups.

Camping in the state park campground, basically on the same property, just a small road in between, this was a great find! The food was amazing - pics don't show how beautiful they were when served because we had already been eating them. Nachos delicious and unbelievably generous with toppings - the house-made corn chips delicious! The green chili soup in the sour dough bowl was a special treat! Server Vera was a delight!! My only disappointment was the number of dogs in outdoor seating, which was close proximity. We always sit outside when that option exists, but chose inside here due to the number of dogs; for a dog-skittish person, this was quite intimidating. Otherwise, a really nice experience.

The food here was amazing. It's right next to the harbor so the seafood is incredibly fresh. There is seating inside and out with great views of the harbor. My only complaint is the restrooms are not inside the restaurant but about a 3 minute walk from the restaurant.

We came here for fish and chips and clam chowder. We decided to go with the California chowder which is the clam chowder with an added spicy green chili soup... SO GOOD. Both dishes were excellent! I'm not a fan of super thick, gloppy, gluey clam chowder, and this one did not disappoint! It tasted very homemade and fresh! The fish and chips were cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back!

This was a great find just on the outer edge of downtown Morro Bay, and well worth it. Outside seating is perfect with plenty of optional umbrellas…inside seating as well. I suggest splitting the tacos and or massive nachos…oh and 20oz beers on tap, yes please! Very reasonable prices, excellent service and tons of parking. Lunch/dinner but closes early so check times. Here’s an idea: hike the path up to top of Black Hill for great views, then wind your way down thru the state park and cross the street to a marina. The walk back to town is great as well.

I love Everything about this place. I've been coming here since I was a kid and each time it's been a great experience and As a "tourist" its always appreciated. The Food is absolutely delicious, most notably the Sourdough Bowl California Chowder but Whatever you decide to order is a guaranteed treat! The servers have always been polite and informative and that view nesr the water is absolutely perfection. Especially with that morning fog just peering above the water. Just grab a coffee and enjoy the fresh cool air. Bayside Cafe is ALWAYS a must stop when I visit Morror Bay.

Found this place to eat while driving through Moro Bay, glad we stopped for the rest and the food! We were seated in just a few minutes even though it was crowded! The cafe sits right off the island strand surrounded by water and a dock for boats! It was foggy this day but it was warm enough to go for a walk after lunch! It’s very picturesque and we enjoyed the food, service and ambience, mostly older folks, and very affordable! We’d love to go back!

Cute little restaurant on the bay in the state park. The outdoor patio is very comfortable and breezy to eat your meal also dog friendly. Service was good and the lunch menu was nice. I had the tostada with grilled chicken. My lunch mates had the shrimp and chips and the tri tip sandwich. We didn't have dessert but, I saw a slice of the carrot cake being served and it looked yummy. Next time I'll try dessert.

Great place with a variety of menu items, ranging from seafood to Mexican. Odd that some of the food was well-spiced, like the clamstrips, and others, such as the clam chowder and scallops on fried green tomatoes, were lacking salt, making them a little pricey for the value of the food. Very friendly wait staff and great atmosphere.

The 20min. wait was worth it. I ordered the kids fish and chips - did you know seniors on a budget can order off the kids menu? The portion was more than enough. Tasty, fresh, crispy light batter. Views from inside was lovely of the water.

A nice cafe next to the bay. This is a very popular restaurant with the locals as well as the tourists. Patio seatings require long waits. It’s kind of casual and relaxing environment. The people here are very nice and friendly. You definitely feel welcome here. The sandwiches are very good here and the seafood are excellent. Too bad that they didn’t have the Bayside steamer with the mussels since they are not in season. I heard that they are the favorites for many visitors. As we saw many people order their fish and chips and beef dips sandwich, we also got ourselves those food. The fish and chips were excellent with very tender cod fish meat. I also like my beef dip, although the french bread was bit stale. The clam chowder on the hand was not that impressive. It’s pretty watery. I don’t recommend this dish.

One of our favorite places for nachos. Good service, didn’t have to wait long to be seated or to get our food on a Sunday during Memorial Day Weekend.

Good food, good service, great location and great tostada! There is a nice trail at the end of the parking lot which makes it a perfect place to burn off the calories after consuming the tostada.

This restaurant is cute and quaint. Due to Covid regulations, there wasn't as much dine in seating so my party opted to sit outside. We bundled up in our jackets and sat close to the outdoor heaters. The view was everything you could hope for. The food was very tasty and served fresh and hot. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. My party ordered the Shrimp Salad, Seafood Pasta, Crab Cakes, Clam Chowder, and the Chocolate Oblivion. All were incredibly delicious and full of flavor! The portions were very generous and I left full and happy. I would love to eat here again the next time I pass through Morro Bay.

Set in the beautiful confines of Morro Bay State Park this casual eating establishment has been around for a while but I've only been a few times. Service is moderately friendly and we visited in the middle of the afternoon so the place was not too busy yet. I got a hamburger which was so-so. There was an off flavor which could have been their choice of green leaf lettuce which to me tastes like dirt. The fries were great though and my wife got fish and chips which was 100% delicious. Since it was her b-day they comped us a slice of mud pie that was also excellent. Not to be forgotten are the great views of the bay and the distant sand dunes. Check it out!

The food was good. Crab cakes, seafood platter and club sandwich came to approximately $60. Plan to wait at least 15 mins to be seated. Will probably visit again.

Delicious. The taco bowl was really hefty, super delicious. The location is gorgeous and the staff was really friendly. My waiter was also named Garrett, only with 1 T. Prices weren't too bad, good portions. Recommended!

This delightful female-owned restaurant has fantastic Seafood and a variety of other yummy foods, including desserts. you can't beat The View from the marina and it is located near the Natural History Museum and the state park. Our waitress seemed a little freaked out by the large size of our group but I have not found this to be the common experience here, especially at the time we were there between lunch and dinner the fish and chips are fantastic and there is a Mexican accent to the menu that perfectly suits the area, as are the desserts. It is also great that you have the option of eating indoors in the homey covered patio or outside by the fishing & house boats. pretty much everything on the menu is delicious and the owner, Dawn, is known by name by many of the customers that frequent this lovable Eatery! ♥️

Absolutely wholesome portions, and the nachos are to die for!! Very friendly staff, and great ambience. This place offers ample vegetarian options. The veg sandwich, enchiladas and burrito bowl were great! And did you know, this place is dog-friendly too! My pooch loved hanging out with us here :)

Well worth the wait, yes you will have to wait awhile before being seated. The food was very good and brought out faster than I thought I would come. We have found a new spot to eat when visiting the coast. Thank you Bayside Cafe

Great view with lots of outdoor seating and menu has a nice selection of seafood and cafe favorites. Love that they offer 1/2 Liter and Litre of house wine reminiscent of Europe. Friendly service and good food.

Burrito for 9 bucks was a great deal and yummy, their green Chile soup was very good with a kick to it. The seared ahi appetizer was nice. Food and view was better than our waiter, he must have been new. Nice but not his best day.

Long-standing rustic dining by the marina. Seating is by order of writing names into the logbook; things were crowded at noon and the rain meant outdoor seating was offline. Menu offerings are a blend of TexMex, seafood, and handhelds like burgers or tri-tip dip. Portions are generous, and the staff are friendly.

I love the cafe where it sits right next to the Bay. The service there, amazing atmosphere, lovable, the food is good, but I think they just need to work on their chicken. A little bit, but other than that, not too expensive, perfect for gathering.

I am not a seafood person so I can't comment on the most likely reason people come to this restaurant but they did serve me a nice chicken dish. The staff were all very friendly and the environment is pleasant. By far the most amazing thing though and a reason to come back was the tres leches. I'd say I'm more at a 3.75 than a 4. I had the Chicken fajitas, and they were really good! And unique! The sauce all over this dish was more of a sweet spicy (mildly) chili type of sauce. Had a wonderful flavor! The downfall was more about the sides for me. The rice didn't have a good flavor (very bland) and the beans weren't completely cooked. The Guac was good but with the difference in flavor, it didn't compliment the fajitas the same way. Our server was quick and knew what he was doing. Mothers day weekend is busy and they handled the rush very well :) Will be going back to try other things. Will try to update :-)

Beautiful location, on the south side of Morro Bay. The day we went, they ran out of fish for Fish & Chips. Our server was helpful, substituting grilled salmon for our fish, and had the seafood sampler instead. The cocktail sauce was good, the tarter sauce needed some help. I was really excited to try this little cafe on our drive up the coast. The atmosphere was amazing and the setting was so perfect. We chose to sit outside even though the weather was a bit chilly. They had heaters and were very accommodating on the porch. I was a bit disappointed with our sandwiches (tri-tip beef sub and beef dip) but the soups were definitely better. We had the tortilla chicken soup and the California chowder (clam chowder mixed with the green chile soup). I think maybe we just ordered wrong, because everything around us looked great.

The people are lovely, the place is nice. The location is really pretty. The soup was delicious. Unfortunately, the other food we ordered wasn't quite as enjoyable. Maybe some of that is preference, but we ordered 2 pasta dishes and both were pretty over cooked. We heard people raving about the shrimp, so if you go there perhaps give that a try.

We just to like this place. BUT last 2 times it’s been not good. Food it’s different test. Dessert just to be great not any more. I think this place it’s more for tourists. We have fajitas.. was not good. I will never back to this place. And we are local.

Update: I didn't tip on my bill due to it being on another bill as it was split. After I signed, crossed out the tip, wrote the total amount, and then took a picture of the receipt the waiter Garret decided to give himself an $8 tip after the fact that.I disputed the charge with credit card company. They are committing fraud and it is illegal! The enchiladas were basically two soft tacos. Service was ok but the view was great.
