Taco Temple Morro Bay Reviews
Consistently great food. Big portions. Super friendly staff. But the winner....the carrot cake!! Highly recommend.
Taco temple is one of my favorite places now. Sitting on the patio looking at the ocean, drinking a beer and eating awesome food. A+++
Incredible food! The fish tacos are my go to and I've gotten the cod burrito multiple times too. Super fresh and flavorful, not to mention insanely huge portions. They have multiple salsa options that are unreal. But by far my favorite item is the carrot cake. It's a massive slice that can feed 4 people! Highly recommend.
I always love the fish tacos. Taco Temple is my favorite casual dining place in Morro Bay!
We loved the food. Amazing veg options and portion sizes are—- Go USA go… Loved it
We had been driving all day and looking for a great place to eat. We headed here and I was calling it “Taco Heaven” and I wasn’t wrong! My carnitas burrito was fantastic! My wife had the special wild salmon taco and it was amazing too. The portion sizes were huge. One tip is don’t get lost in the self serve chips and salsa bar. The chips were crispy and the salsa was fresh! You can’t go wrong here!
Had the halibut taco, it was delicious! Staff was efficient and received my food quickly. I highly recommend
This is our first trip to Morro Bay ant Taco Temple is close to the place we rented there are also.3 other mexican restaurants on the street I'm so glad we selected Taco Temple the vibe is fun they have a huge selection of beer and the food is good. I had a battered fish taco it was really good not to greasy and had a great crunch. The staff is very nice, they definitely want the customer to be happy. Very nice
This place rocks! Food is fresh & amazing clean flavor! Great prices especially for the carnitas tacos! Seating can be tight on the inside & there is usually a 20 minute wait during the rush hours. Your wait is totally worth it! 💗 Try the carrot cake, it is boss! You can see the ocean from here but not from all the seats. The chips are home made & addicting! Try all the salsas, they are bomb! You can't go wrong eating here. It is a local hot spot that tourists have found out about, you won't regret eating here!
Excellent food very friendly staff. Large portions for reasonable prices
Great food! Free chips & salsa, don't forget to ask for carrots.
Our tacos were big and really yummy. Love the lava chile!
This restaurant is very deserving of its high reputation. I only get here a few times a year, and it’s always such a treat. There is nothing fancy to look at, everyone comes here for the food. Be prepared for something different, but excellent. The “taco” is much more like a very hearty salad. Try to allow for dessert, it’s well worth it.
Great food. Huge quantities and quality. One burrito feeds two easily. One dessert serves several.
Best ceviche in town also had the sizzling fajita platter and a cpl cold beers all around great place we will definitely keep coming back
Came here after reading some reviews and since my wife and I were staying at the Inn next door we came in for a late dinner after traveling for over 2 hours. I really wanted to eat as much local seafood as possible in the next few days, so I ordered the Lingcod taco. It was lots of food, splitting between my wife and myself. It was more like a salad than tacos, but that was okay because it was delicious. Their salsas were amazing, really fresh ingredients despite it being almost 8p, and the fish was perfectly cooked. I highly recommend this place to all how travel here to Morro Bay.
Wow. What a nice little place. It fits though with what I think of as great taco joints - not so much focused on a flashy exterior, it’s all put to the food. And put towards the food they do. The portions are about as big as you can get. The food is fantastic. Fish is fresh and delicious, and the carnitas burrito with red sauce was just to die for. This place definitely rates super high on places to eat. One word of caution - the prices do match the sizes, with that same burrito being about 20$. However, it’s great food and well worth the price. Definitely a place we will revisit.
I've had a dozen great meals here, all of them have been wild. Wild fish tacos, all of them topped with a big salad full of purple cabbage and a great sauce plus mango salsa, cucumbers. Cucumbers. It's healthy, delicious and very popular. It is as quintessential a restaurant in the Central Coast region as it can get. I can't highly recommend it enough. The people who work there are super nice.
This place has really good service, I think his name was Johnny or John, he gives a really good costumer service, me and my fiance were impressed, we are from Santa Maria and we are definitely going back just because of him, Johnny you are amazing 🔥 more people like you 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I had the calamari tacos and my husband had the Seabass tacos. The plate was overflowing with yumminess, great flavors and nice texture. The Tres leches looked very good, and it was very tasty because my husband would not share. He ate it all up and the carrot cake! Oh my goodness it was a humongous slice but well worth it. I am so happy we found this place. dining is super casual and the folks there are so friendly on my visit here to Morror Bay I will most definitely come to this place again !
Whenever we come into town, this is our usual stop for a lunch or early dinner. Awrsome service with great food. We love it.
The carnitas taco & carrot cake are my favorite things on the menu! The carnitas is super moist and crispy and one taco is gigantic/enough for lunch! The carrot cake is HEAVENLY- we love it so much we had it as our wedding cake! Everything on the menu is super fresh and delicious here, we love Taco Temple!!!
Evey time we come here the food gets better and better!! 🤤 We had cheese Quesadilla with asada meat is was bomb! Jalapeno poppers with smokey bacon, shrimp cocktail, and Temple Nachos. The service was amazing great attitude they really know what real customer service is! 👍😁 We will keep coming back as long as they stay open. 😁
If you are going to eat anywhere in Morro Bay Taco Temple has to be at the top of your list !!!! It is mine . Away from the touristy section by the water , this gem serves up absolutely delicious food with servings that you definitely could share . Staff is super friendly and accommodating with lots of tips and recommendations along with a smile on their faces. Reasonable priced and did I mention how large the servings were? I had the chile verde tostada and my wife had the fresh red snapper tacos. Half my plate was meat !!! Her fish was cooked to perfection👍. Great chips and salsa added at no extra charge. This place was recommended to me so I’m passing that on to you . This is a must eat Mecca for sure . By far the best food in town ❤️
What the heck is a taco temple? Try this place and find out, as a favor to yourself. Really good food and large portions. No frills, just delicious.
I always make sure to include Taco Temple on my annual visit to SLO. The starter homemade chip bar with various heats of salsa is delicious, and the entrees are always fresh and tasty. My go-to drink is their Temple-ade, a delicious grapefruit-infused lemonade. Today's clientele ranged from a group of leather-clad bikers to families with young children, and many couples, young and old. Their desserts are excellent, if you have room! Pictured below: Temple-ade, Red Snapper Tacos and the Bay Shrimp Enchilada Platter which required 2 plates.
Awesome staff and delicious food! I’ve tried several things on their menu over the years and today I found my official favorite. Get the Baja tacos. Portions are massive, so be prepared to have your lunch ready for tomorrow!
This place is the absolute best. The manager Mel is amazing. The food is delicious. Best place to eat in Morro Bay.
I got 2 Alaska cod tacos. They were huge! So huge that I couldn't actually pick them up. One would have been plenty, Cod was nicely grilled, well seasoned. Tacos were not spicy hot, nor was the salsa for the chips. But that was ok. I'd already started eating before I remembered to take a picture, so this isn't quite the entire plate.
Alaskan Cod Taco is like a salad and a taco in one. I’m still not sure how your supposed to eat that taco, but I got my way through in a messy and delicious fashion. The produce is exceptionally fresh and the fish as well. The sauce on top is the coup de grâce. The ceviche is quite delicious as an accompaniment, but not necessary with how HUGE the taco plate is. I’m already planning on trying the Baja Tacos next time…. That’s if I don’t try one of their succulent sounding specials!
Ordered a special. Scallop taco. It was delicious. Order at the counter and they everything to you. Chips were crunchy and salsa was great as well. Finished off with some shared deserts with family because we couldn't decide on one. They make them in house and you cannot go wrong with your choice.
Wow!! My fish tacos were incredibly fresh and delicious!! The restaurant was clean, the staff were so helpful, and we could see the ocean from our table (at a distance). It’s very family friendly. We had 2 young kids with us, and they were able to eat chips immediately while waiting for our food. What a great restaurant!!
Experience was great. The staff were all very friendly and the portion sizes were huge. One meal took up 2 plates. Taste was also amazing. Best fish tacos in the area. The only downside was the size of the building. It was very packed. Had to move our seats everytime someone wanted to walk by. But the food was so good that we really didn't mind.
This place is such a find, and has so much going for it. Fresh ingredients, large portions and big flavors, but the decor and general setting is not at the same standard. It's little hole in the wall kind of place. I'm actually fine with that, because it's about the food here. I mean really good food. The prices are very fair for the portion size and the quality of food you get. I'm not a big seafood fan, but if I was, I would be here all of the time. Good thing for me, they have great carnitias and other non-seafood choices too 😁 I have sent many people here, and I have been thanked by them every time.
Took a little weekend trip to Morro Bay with the hubby. I heard this place was good from two different people so I had my heart set on going. We got here at 11:30am and it was already packed inside. I had already picked out cod tacos because that was the recommended choice from friends. Hubby got the carne asada burrito, wet. We also each ordered a michelada. Holy cow the portions were enormous! The fish tacos were stuffed with fish and had an entire salad loaded into it. 2 fish tacos were enough to stuff me for the day. The burrito was huge! He could only eat half of it. Looks like the other half will be dinner tonight for both of us. The chips were delicious. Ask for the spicy salsa. It’s WAY better than the regular stuff. Prices are high but you get lots of food. Definitely worth stopping and eating!
+ BEST. TRES. LECHES. CAKE. EVER. Seriously, don't even think twice about ordering this. Yes, you have room for dessert. Yes, it's worth the calories. Yes, you'll want your own. Yes, you're going to crave this cake for the rest of your days. Its decadently sweet and super moist. SO. FREAKIN. GOOD. + Amazing complimentary chips & salsa bar. They have a salsa for everyone whether you like a lot of heat or just want to keep it mild. + Prices may seem high for a single taco, but the portion size is extremely generous. 1 taco is plenty for me! + Extremely fresh ingredients ( I love that every taco is basically a giant mountain of salad) and the seafood always tastes fresh. + The tacos aren't "authentic" per se, but they are it's own unique thing. They aren't traditional tacos. I mean, you can barely find the tortilla until you reach the end, but they are super good. + Service is friendly, fast, and helpful. If you have any questions about anything on our menu, the staff is very knowledgeable and can make great recommendations. I mean, you can't really go wrong with anything you order. + The restaurant itself isn't anything to really comment on. It's not very well decorated or aesthetically pleasing. Ambiance is pretty nonexistent, but let's be real, we're not here for the ambiance. We're here for the food. Overall, it's a very laid-back and casual eatery with an amazing menu. + They serve beer and wine here. No happy hour deals but the drink prices are very reasonable already + Located in the same lot as Spencer's Market so there is PLENTY of parking available.
This was my first visit to Taco Temple in Morro Bay. The beer was ice cold to the point where my last sip was as cold as my first sip. I ordered halibut tacos and was served a plate of food that was enough for 2 people! As you can see in the picture it was two big pieces of halibut on a bed of slaw with awesome dressing and a side of huge chunks of mango. I thought I got the wrong order but there were two corn tortillas underneath this mound of food. They also have an extensive list of homemade desserts but we were too full to indulge in anything after we ate half of what we ordered. So if you have a sweet tooth be sure to share a dinner or eat half and pack the rest up to go so you can enjoy the incredible homemade desserts . Kelly was super professional and gave us five-star customer service! The restaurant was clean and I have nothing but good things to say about our experience. I will definitely make regular visits to this Taco Temple location!
You get your money’s worth here. Came here because people I know said the food was good here. I ordered the scallop taco which was phenomenal. Lots of scallop and the taco was huge. I also ordered the jalapeño popper which was also tasty and also a good portion. Others that I came with ordered tacos, burritos, and nachos. All were gigantic portions. All belly’s were full. Everyone was happy with the decision to come here. We had experience with Mexican food and we all found this food exceptional.
I absolutely have to get the poke ahi street tacos...they are the best I have ever had. The nachos are excellent and the fried pickles are da-bomb-diggity. The people and service top notch. The view of the rock and ocean are the best anywhere. And the soundtrack playing over the restaurant speakers made at the quintessential beach taco shack experience.
Huge portions of some of the best Mexican food our family has ever had! Very friendly service and fun atmosphere.
Portions are very generous, food is fresh, and desserts are fantastic! This place has REAL cheesecake - and is easily within the top 3 I have ever had in my life.
Got take out for three people. Ordered halibut tacos and shrimp tacos, plus rice and beans and a slab of carrot cake. Absolutely amazing. The tacos are more of a salad than a taco, but that is ok! Definitely stop in for some excellent food.
Huge portions of delicious Mexican food. Enchiladas are amazing with rich red sauce and tasty shredded chicken. The tacos are super yummy and filled with all the good extras like the lettuce, tomato and onions. Every plate also has guacamole and sour cream, which take the taste to another level. They also have really good beer and some wine, so I highly recommend them.
Whenever we visit Cayucos, we stop at Taco Temple in Morro Bay to pick up dinner. We usually get their fresh fish tacos and a piece of killer carrot cake. The portions are hugh and we get two meals from each entree. Quality is always good. Love their mango salsa. Call or check their web site in advance to make sure they are open.
Excellent! Salmon tacos, sweet potato enchiladas and white sangria. Would order it all again! Counter ordering and dear yourself inside or outside. Very generous portions requiring to go containers all round. Two nicely seasoned salmon pieces with great salad and dressing and mango salsa. Nice Verde sauce on the sweet potato enchiladas. Those could have been heavier on the potatoes and lighter on the onions but still great flavor. Sadly, no chocolate bread pudding to review! Would definitely come back here!
Eyes WAY bigger then my stomach. We came a little hungry so we each orderd our own meal plus an appetizer. I've ordered the baja tacos many times but usually carry out. Today we ate inside and the portions were enough for an entire family!! 4 GIANT filets with enough salad to feed 18 rabbits. The fajita plate my hubby ordered was equally abundant. Normally a side of fried pickles is maybe 4-5 spears. Oh no... this seemed like an entire JAR!! I had to put the fork there to give a comparison to the size!! We are camping nearby and the leftovers will make a delicious steak omelet in the morning!! $50 for dinner AND tomorrow's breakfast!! Next time, just one item and we'll split it!!
We’ve been going to Taco Temple for 30 years or more. When in the Morro Bay, Taco Temple is a must! Seriously!! Their fish tacos, many varieties of fish, are more like a big salad. Fresh and yummy food. It’s really hard to go wrong with whatever you choose. They have beer and wine. Good place to either eat in or take out.
A MUST stop if you are in the area (or even 30 miles away). Come hungry. Portions are sizable and quality is still high. We came for the carrot cake (which may be on the wonders of the world) but the burritos and tacos were excellent. The woman serving us in the dining area was incredibly friendly and helpful, ensuring we had everything we need. Ah and the salsas were also great.
We came because of a friend’s recommendation and taco temple did not disappoint. The salmon and scallop tacos were great. They did stretch the definition of a taco a little bit, they were on tortillas but they put so much ingredients on top of the tortillas you can’t pick them up, everything was super yummy 😋
An awesome place with great Mexican food!! Definitely has the beach vibe to it!! Well worth a short drive out of the harbor and tourism areas of Morro Bay. Everything is always prepared fresh! The taco salads and tostadas are huge!! Fish tacos are great!! The burritos all would make for more than one meal! Be sure to try a wet burrito with the different sauce options! If you are looking for the best Mexican food in Morro Bay this is the place!
I've been to the SLO Taco Temple which is big. This Morro bay location was not as big but it was busy. The atmosphere was happy, loud, and just fun. The staff looked happy and were very nice. Bring refills and asking if we needed more of anything. The best drink was the pink lemonade. They offered to put sugar on the rim, which I declined, but was surprised by. What a nice feature. My Nachos were great and my husband enjoyed his sweet potatoes enchiladas. Thank you Morro Bay Taco Temple!
Maricela gives outstanding service with the most beautiful smile. Oh yeah, the food is awesome as always!!

Great food for a great price. Service was polite and portions were huge! Will be back!
Large portions of fresh fish and Mexican food. Nothing fancy just really flavorful and delicious food. Order and food brought out to you. Indoor and outdoor dining. \nGreat local spot.
Friendly staff, casual atmosphere, generous portions. Loved their snapper taco, but the shrimp and corn chowder was a little too sweet for me.
Best White Bass Tacos ever \nWith a great Sunset view over the ocean. Outside seating available Great selection of beer

While staying in Morro Bay, we wanted tacos and this place was real close and had good reviews. Had to try the Killer Alaskan Cod tacos, and they did not disappoint; they were fantastic. The ceviche was also really, really good. My only complaint was the service. We sat outside, waiting for our food for a long time, I went inside and saw our food sitting on the counter. A woman walked up and I asked her if our food was ready. She acted like it just came up, but I think had been sitting there for a while because the tortillas were soggy.
Tried the calamari and crab cake taco.. the string fries just covered the 2 pieces of tacos right underneath. The calamaris were nicely fried and the batter wasn't too salty. Crab cakes were packed with the crab meat. came with complementary nachos chips and ice water.. the portions were huge and we had to use to-go boxes..
Very good food with big portions. Lots of different specials and everything tastes very fresh and home made. They have a chip and salsa bar that you can help yourself to during your meal, but be careful not to fill up as portions here can be big! They also have some delicious looking deserts, think I saw an Oreo cheesecake at the table next to me which looked awesome - but I was too full for that, maybe next time.
This review is only for the carrot cake. $8 seemed pretty pricey when we ordered it but it was a huge slice. I think what makes the cake so good is the texture you get from all the walnuts and actual carrots inside. The cake was very moist with a slightly heavier than medium density. They frosting was just a tad bit too sweet. Overall the carrot cake was really good though.
I love Taco Temple miss the Pismo location! It was a 3 day weekend and it was very busy. There was no service. You order pay for your food and go find a seat. We couldn't find a comfortable table so we sat at the bar. The music was too loud and like I said there was no service. I had to ask for a knife and more salsa by getting up and walking inside. All in all, Taco Temple is a super good place to eat if you like Mexican food
The chips and salsa was nice and it's free. The selection is good but it isn't the best Mexican food I've had. I had the fajitas. Wish there were more tortillas that came with it. Can a pineapple cider which I am now a huge fan of!! And my God, the carrot cake was so huge but it was a bit dry, I think because it was in the fridge. I let it sit out a while and it was a lot better. Good visit but it was pricy
While there is usually a wait, it's worth it. Chips and salsa are available while you wait. Once seated, friendly staff are quick to get you water and beverages, with super fresh and large portions coming soon thereafter. Lots of fresh salad greens and vegetables accompany each plate.
We returned to Taco Temple after many years of being away. We are spending more time in Morro Bay instead of Avila Beach (no time share). It was a glorious returned to elevated perfection. The Baha Tacos chefs kiss. Generous portions lightly coated fish filets tacos are accompanied by a slaw/salad dressed with the most balanced dressing. They offer a range of salsa with chips. Do not passed on the chopped/lightly pickled jalapeños. The dish comes with a fresh mango salsa the has a hint of heat. Unhinge your jaw while savoring each bite. What's changed no table service or salsa bar. I didn't miss either. Service is very attentive. Ample parking. Don't sleep on desert even if you have to take it to go. Hint Carrot cake Peanut butter pie Yes I always review bathrooms. Well maintained and spotless.
Great menu and options. Gave it 4 stars because I felt the kids menu was kinda crappy. My burrito was amazing, though and it was MASSIVE for the price! Very happy about that.
I didn't eat in, but did order there and waited. They greeted me as soon as I arrived and waited while I decided what to have since this was my first time. The cashier was friendly and answered all my questions. I ordered a combination plate which included a cheese enchilada, Carne asada taco, chili rellano and it came with black beans, rice and salad. It was all very good. Unfortunately the bag fell on the floor so things got a little mixed up, but it was still good. Price was a bit spend, but everything is nowadays. I would definitely eat here again.
We ordered the Baja and the taco, and let me tell you, the size was way too much for me—I couldn't finish it at all! Opting for takeout to enjoy the nearby ocean view was a nice move, but be prepared for a long wait. It felt like I waited years for the order to finally be in my hands. Despite the extended wait, the food was worth it—freshly cooked, and you could truly taste the quality. If you have the patience, the Baja is a delightful choice for a satisfying meal.
Food:4/5 Ambiance:4/5 My order is as shown in pictures Street chicken tacos 🌮 Enchiladas with red and green sauce Chile rellenos First let’s talk about free unlimited homemade chips and salsa. Tastes good and help yourself while you wait in line. We waited approximately 15 min for our seats and it was crowded heavily. We went on a Saturday evening. Food was good. Enchiladas and Chile from my order are recommended. Both are vegetarian options and surprisingly good in taste. I tried the enchiladas next day from my left over and still tasted quite good. I personally won’t recommend street tacos. Too dry for my taste and had to add a lot of salsa and other things to make it work. If you find this restaurant pricy then you are right but quantities are justified with that price. Overall good restaurant for quick Mexican craving. Ambiance got less rating because We got the seats just next to the back door which was opening and closing time to time and it was really cold to seat.

We'd like to rate it 3.5 stars but that is not an option. The steak fajitas were really great. The portion sizes are enormous. The beans are not refried but are whole - they taste pretty good. The rice was ok. The chips are very greasy and not so great. Salsa is ok. The carrot cake was heavy and too dense because the liquid to dry ratio was wrong - way too much liquid means they have to cook it longer to try to get it done which is why the bottom of the cake was overcooked. Also having too much fluid means the cake is heavy, dense and bricklike. This is unfortunate since the flavors of the cake and icing are pretty good. We would go back to this restaurant.

Now listen to me ... I first moved to Morro Bay 9 years ago this month , August 2016 . My apartment is right behind Spencer's Market . Being new to the neighborhood, and hungry , I went to Taco Temple for a late lunch . I think I got a combination plate - tacos , enchiladas , rice and beans . I also ordered a beer with my lunch . Finally , my order came and being very hungry by this time , I was focused on eating . All I had to drink was a glass of water . I was eating and I was nearly done , I realized that the waiter DID NOT bring my beer . I like beer , but this time the waiter dropped the ball ! No beer . I said something to him about forgetting to bring the beer . He said he would bring it ; but I told him it was too late as I was nearly finished eating . I made sure that I adjusted his tip downward because he forgot the beer I ordered . I know this was 9 years ago , but I don ' t forget . Yes , things change , but make sure , if you go there to eat , the wait staff brings exactly what you ordered and all that you ordered BEFORE you start your meal . And if your service is not up to snuff , tell them about it and tip accordingly . P. S . The food was was good .👍
Best part of this meal was when I walked out the door. We ordered take out. Did not realize how bad things were until.we were miles away. We just kept going. We ordered a $102.00 order and did not get what we purchased. The Fish Tacos were so soggy we needed forks to eat them, none were provided. There was very little fish in the Tacos and it was 90% Lettuce. The Calimari meal was about 80% shoestring potatoes and Lettuce. My biggest issue was I ordered a fish burrito and it was not there. So I shared someone else's meal. To say the least, I was highly disappointed with my first and last time to Taco Temple of Morro Bay. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Go to Taco Bell, at least you can eat their Tacos with your hands.
The portions are large. The chips were okay, the fish taco plate was huge, and the poke taco special was super sus, wouldn’t recommend, and to be perfectly honest, we won’t be back. Nothing special and not worth $30 a person. Honestly, you might wanna grab Taco Bell if you’re considering this spot. If you wanna have a beer, burrito and listen to music then sure this might be it, but for us, we started saying, well, it can’t be worse than taco temple.
I got food poisoning from the chicken taquitos. They tasted horrid, like they had bleach in them. The waiter looked like she was absolutely stumped as to why i said anything. After we left I had an…
Mid at best. I don’t know how someone could mess up horchata as bad as y’all did. Ordered the Baja tacos and after I ate the fish this is what was left on my plate. Please tell me why you served me what is essentially a glorified $20 salad. The tortillas were buried under this huge mountain of greens. If you’re expecting semi decent food I would beg you to choose a different place
