Our waitress did a fantastic job and the food was great.
One of the best in town! Obviously the salsa and queso are favorites for a reason. I've had queso delivered half an hour away because it's so good! Love some La Paz!!
SO DANG GOOD!!! The people are incredible. The food made my soul happy. I'll be back and send all my friends!
Everything was wonderful!! Corey was our server and he was awesome. The Papa Grande margaritas he made were DELICIOUS!! All of our food was amazing. You HAVE to try the Spinach Chile con Queso, we added chorizo and it was perfect. Thank y’all!!
Simply the best. I ate here after sports growing up. My mom and I had a waiter there who was the spitting image of Jim Carrey. So many memories of this place. My Paris born son looks forward to the cheese dip every time we come to Birmingham and we brought his French best friend here last week. He, of course, loved it too! We had a lovely Mexican waiter who was so nice to the boys! Thank you La Paz for staying the same. Please don’t ever change. You are an institution.
We had such a nice experience! Our server was so sweet and attentive AND THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS ordered the fried fish tacos and the Tropicana and my gosh that's good and tbh a great portion size for the price
We stumbled upon this place. We tried a variety of items and all were amazing and flavored perfectly. For us, Mexican food is pretty standard across the board but they just marinate and/or season and cook everything perfectly. I got the blackberry marg (pic below) it was made well and was a refreshing treat on a hot Alabama afternoon.
The restaurant had beautiful murals on the wall and a wonderful atmosphere. Food was very good and the wait staff was nice. They seem to be understaffed at the moment so be prepared for what comes with that. The food still came out fast and the queso was the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend.
Good Mexican food. I would definitely recommend the blue corn nachos. Go early and beat the rush because the later the more crowded it will be.
Easy to get an outside table. Great salsa and cheese dip. We had the Gordo and half quesadilla. Quiet and quaint dinner.
La Paz is one of my go-to spots because they have my favorite guacamole. Always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made! The California quesadilla with black beans and goat cheese is absolutely delicious, with a great balance of creamy and savory flavors. Simple, satisfying, and good. Service can be inconsistent but they are always friendly. Definitely a family restaurant which can make it loud.
Been going here for 20+ years. Really love the food. Worst service I’ve ever had here the other day, and family members reported the same within the same week. In between lunch and dinner: ran out of salsa and chips when we still had cheese dip. Asked person who brought us our food for more, were told we’d have to ask our server. He sure didn’t tell her we asked, because she wasn’t seen for 10 minutes. Never offered a drink refill. Waited 15 minutes for check.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ I ordered delivery from La Paz and was excited to try their street corn and shrimp street tacos. The food arrived fresh and tasted delicious. Well, at least after I discovered I am one of those unlucky people who think cilantro tastes like soap. Once I picked it off, everything was great. Unfortunately, I woke up this morning with food poisoning symptoms. While I cannot say for sure that it was from this meal, it was the only thing I ate that evening. The flavors were on point, but this experience has made me hesitant to order again. Hoping it was just a one time issue because I really did enjoy the food!
One and done. Won’t be back for the food or the drinks. Most of our party of 5 got the combo plate. It’s on the dinner side of the menu but it’s available any time of day. The rice was so so and the enchiladas were kind of bad. The taco was decent but it should be right. Our margaritas were okay. Not the best by far. Even for Tex-mex, this was a drag and waste of money. Who is cooking??? This restaurant is all for show. Maybe the other locations are much better. The best thing we ate was the chips, salsa, and queso. Go figure.
We’ve been eating at LaPaz since 1993 when we attended Birmingham Southern College. Every time we travel back to Birmingham, we can’t wait to eat at LaPaz. It has always been nothing but exceptional. Tonight, Valentine’s, we met our son and his fiancé there for dinner. We had to ask the guy cleaning a table next to us to find our waiter after waiting 12 minutes with no attention. A girl who let us know she was not our waiter came and took our drink and appetizer order. Later, we had to waive her down and ask if she could take our food order. Our food came out fast and she made sure we had everything we needed. But….after that no one checked on us again. We sat with dirty plates, had no water refills, or had anyone ask us us if we wanted anything else. Finally, after 30 minutes being done eating, we flagged her down so we could get our check. The guy who was our actual waiter (with a horrible attitude) dropped our check on the table without a word or even clearing a single plate off our table. The food was amazing, but the “lack” of service ruined it!!
