I chose Modern Restaurant and Lounge in New Rochelle for my 75th birthday party. Let me tell you it was quite an experience! The food was beyond great! The hostess Maggie was gracious and very accommodating from the private room to the music they had arranged to provide. Service was excellent. We are very discerning when it comes to Italian food and MODERN’S recipes were as authentic Italian as it gets!!! This place is now on my very short list of restaurants that we will be coming to every time we visit family in New York. Well done, staff, Maggie and Sebastian, Sr.

Modern is the best Italian food in Westchester, and probably even the tri-state area. The truffle chicken is a required order for anyone who likes chicken parm. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable, considering you will have leftovers for the next day. There’s a reason it’s been voted the best restaurant in westchester multiple times. The staff is always attentive and very friendly. Can’t love modern enough!

Yesterday we had a catered lunch from Modern and it was DELICIOUS!! Just had the leftovers for lunch and everything held up. Highly recommend the steak cipollini, chicken scarpariello, Sandra's pizza, and the baby spinach salad. Solid cheese pizza, too. We all made yummy noises and if we didn't have leftovers, I probably would have licked the trays clean. I live in NJ and would drive to New Rochelle to eat here. Glad I work close enough to get catering!

I had a pleasant experience at Modern. The service was attentive, which added to the overall enjoyable atmosphere. I ordered the eggplant parmesan sandwich, which was decent but fairly standard, nothing that stood out. On the other hand, the salad I had was fresh and flavorful. I'm looking forward to returning and trying the pizza.

I can't wait to return to Modern! The amazing woman in this photo was such a beautiful soul, and I felt like she was heaven sent. I was sitting at the end of the bar, and it was very busy. There was an event happening in the adjacent room. I waited patiently for eye contact from the bartender and for my coworkers to arrive. Then, the woman in my last video walked over and asked if I was being helped and assisted me with ordering and securing seats. I was so nervous because it's after work hours, and I alone was securing seats for 5 of my coworkers(this is nerve racking lol) She made me feel so comfortable, even the nice patron offered to shift their seats. She has no idea how her simple question relieved so much angst in that moment. I am very thankful for her. Wish I had her name. When I return, I will update this review. Overall. Great service,food, and atmosphere. I will bring my family next for the experience.

Perla is the gem of Modern!!! The scallops and lychee martinis are amazing as well! But our waitress extraordinaire with the fabulous hair, made our ladies night memorable. She had thoughtful recommendations, made sure we were well taken care of exudes pure joy! Even the servers and gentleman who cleared the table were all professional. The manager takes good care of this crew and it shows in the service. We will definitely go back soon!

Booked my wedding rehearsal dinner here back in mid-March 2025. Sampled the place a few weeks prior and was very impressed overall. The place is HUGE, and this occurrence was for a large-scale group of about 20 people. We opted for a customized pre-fix menu, in which they allowed us to choose multiple options per course. Every part of every course tasted so incredible and came in large, family-style portions. Drinks were tasty, friendly service was on point, and the ambience of our private area/table was a perfect setting for the night. Would highly recommend for a family-style dinner out in a large group, or even to just watch a sports game at the bar.

HANDS DOWN the best shrimp scampi I've ever had!! I've been to a lot of Italian restaurants but the flavors here were amazing! We came here because my girlfriend just discovered she has a gluten sensitivity and she was able to order the gluten free pizza as well the shrimp scampi with gluten free penne.

Had a wonderful experience last night at Modern. My two servers could not have been better. Nicole and Elsie made the night extremely pleasant. They were both attentive to my needs, checking in frequently to see what else I may have needed. A real plus is the hot bread served prior to the meal. I'll be back again and again.

My visit at the restaurant on Monday was such a great experience! The server, Elsie was wonderful and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and the portions were more than enough. Elsie recommended drinks from the bar which were amazing!!!

We went for an anniversary dinner and had a very nice time. The staff was very accommodating (they seated us in a booth!) and even gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. The cocktails were excellent. I loved the Japanese Old Fashioned. We ordered a couple of items from the specials menu; the burrata with eggplant and the lobster ravioli were both delicious and reasonably priced. It was a great spot for a date but also relaxed enough for a family dinner. We'll be back!

We hosted a party in the Lounge. Everyone raved about the great service we received from start to finish. We highly recommend this venue for any gathering.

Owner and his son accommodated my family of 17 following my father's wake in their private lounge room on a busy Friday night. Family buffet style suited our needs perfectly and was delicious. Maggie, our server was friendly, efficient, and treated us with kindness without being intrusive. We can't thank Modern enough for not only feeding us, but "taking care of us" when we needed it.

I ordered the Truffle Chicken from Entree and an Espresso Martini. My friends ordered Clams in Spicy Sauce, Lobster Mac n Cheese, Truffle Fries, Tiramisu, Apple Tart, Marg Pizza. ALL the food was delicious 👌💯 MUST TRY whether or not you're from the area. Is fine dine and I traveled from NYC on Metro North but it was every penny worth.

Very pleasantly surprised with my dinner here. First, you wouldn’t expect it to look the way it does from the outside. The interior is beautifully designed and there were a lot of people dining in on a Wednesday night. We ordered the rice ball to start and I honestly think they were the highlight to the meal. I got the truffle chicken, while my S/O got the chicken parm. The pieces of chicken were huge and the sauce for the truffle chicken was absolutely amazing. The side offerings were a little small compared to some other local Italian places, but we were stuffed.

Celebrated my father's 65th birthday at Modern. It was a pretty big celebration as we had people coming from out of state. Had drinks here one time after works, wasn't too sure about hosting an event though. Met with Erica who was working the front and she was able to put my mind at ease and assured us that they would make it a memorable event. Throughout the process, we paid a few visits to the venue to finalize some details and met with Maggie; she is a doll. She made some terrific recommendations and put us in touch with a few vendors that worked directly with the Modern. Her warmth and knowledge really made it feel we knew her forever. Day before the event we met with Sebastian and he helped finalize seating, flow, and answered all the questions we had, even gave some decorating advice lol. The day of the event was amazing, Sebastian had setup some time for us to decorate and get ourselves together, we even got pizza lol. Everyone came in and was greeted promptly by everyone in the Modern and the service was amazing. Sebastian made sure we had everything we needed. Kudos to the service staff for being attentive, I was pleasantly surprised to see Erica spearheading the service. Everyone had a great time and the atmosphere and venue were beautiful. It was a truly memorable afternoon, food was flawless, drinks were flowing and we even took over the bluetooth speaker system lol. I can't say enough how thankful I am to everyone at the Modern that helped us at every turn. From Erica, Maggie, Sebastian and Sebastian Jr. Thank you. FYI- Get the Spicy Margarita

This restaurant is absolutely superb! One of the best Italian restaurants that I have ever been to, and my wife and I are regularly in Europe, including Italy. Do not miss this one ; it is a winner!

Excellent gluten free pizza! Came on its own pan with its own pizza cutter to minimize cross contamination. They legitimately did a great job and thought things through to protect their customers. Love it. I've been going here for years, everything on the menu is delicious. One of the best spots in New Rochelle.

This was my fist time visiting Modern and I was not disappointed. The menu had variety but specialized in Italian dishes and the service was beyond exceptional. We had a big party for a birthday celebration and Perla was amazing! Her attentiveness to the details of our order, coupled with her warm smile and wonderful recommendations. This was my first time here and it was an amazing experience. As soon as we got there, there was no wait time and we were brought right to our table. The food was very delicious and the vibe and service was great 👍 Our waitress was very Friendly and Attentive. I recommend starting off with the Garlic bread brushetta and the Fresh mozzarella as appetizers they were amazingly delicious 😋 I also had a Mango Margarita 🍹 😋 For the entrée we had the shrimp scampi over linguine and The truffle chicken over angel hair pasta. This is a delicious and sophisticated spot in downtown New Rochelle, with some valet parking if you need it (we lucked out with a free Sunday spot a block away). The service was attentive and friendly, and the place was bustling with a brunch crowd. We had a hearty late lunch before a big event, and thoroughly enjoyed fried zucchini sticks, baked ziti, and a fantastic dish of fresh cooked scallops over savory mushroom medley risotto. The nice cappuccino and strong cup of black coffee after was just the ticket. Our waitress was kind, and sitting in the former car dealership space was a treat - huge ceilings, vintage details, and a movie set feel.

I really liked everything about the place. It's pretty Westchester Italian, upscale but not over the top. Best meal (strip steak with potato croquette and string beans) I've had in ages. And while prices have kept up with inflation, they weren't over the top, under $50 for entrees and under $20 for specialty cocktails (as of early 2026). The service was quick and efficient, friendly and attentive not sappy. And if you are sensitive to noise, the 2-story dining room allows noise to rise so even with giggling tipsy moms and high school kids in the next section it wasn't too loud. Soundtrack of 80s pop rock fit the vibe. Holiday decorations looked good, tasteful. Really glad I stopped by. There is also a bar on the side if waiting. Might be worth checking into seeing if they take reservations if coming during a Thurs-Sat dinner. They seem to also have a brunch special which while pricey might be worth checking out.

Modern is one of those restaurants where you really need to know what to order. I’ve been there a few times, and while not every dish stands out, some are truly excellent—especially the scallops, burrata salad, lobster ravioli, and baked clams. The menu is large and can feel overwhelming. I tried a few items outside the highly recommended ones on Google, and those were more on the mediocre side. That said, the place has a great vibe, the staff is friendly, and it’s lively in a good way—unlike some other spots in the area.

Very cute and charming place. Staff is welcoming and engaging. Ordered take out twice. Was given a time of 20 min each time and both times it took about another 20 once I arrived. Feels like maybe their system loses orders? Not sure why they would happen two times. Penne Vodka with Grilled chicken was good. Wings were really great. Meatballs were "eh" tasted reheated from frozen/not fresh. Menu items are probably about $3-$4 more expensive than they should be. Feels common in New Rochelle

We had dinner here, very nice place,decor, spacious, clean. The bathroom nice and clean. Good service nice people. Good food,* however the portions were small.* Expensive. The mozarella sticks were half the normal size, quite small, pasta served in small bowl and not enough. I am not sure if I would go back for those reasons.

Modern has an amazing Sunday Brunch! Takeout is good too! The service can be a little slow but not horrible. Rice pudding is so good, and the waffles are delicious with fresh strawberries. Eggs are eggs... and they are fresh. The buffet is always replenished. Very good food...

Great atmosphere and the food was good. I had a chicken parm that it had a little bit more plain sauce for my taste. The waiter that brought out food was rude and in a hurry. He pushed our plates around in order to fit everything on the table and a fork fell on my lap... The desserts though were great (see photo)!!. In general I liked the restaurant and the atmosphere very much.

My goddaughter had her 17th birthday at Modern Restaurant, and the staff accommodated 11 of us, who were extremely friendly and attentive! The restaurant is huge and has a mix of contemporary and old-time vibes. I recommend starting off with Grandma's Meatballs and fried calamari. They were delicious 😋! Their cocktail menu is extensive and they have a lot of exclusive drinks! If you're here alone or want a quick bite, sit at the bar. It's a decent size.

Came here for a birthday soirée that was in a private room, the room was lovely and cozy and perfect for the event, the appetizers were great, the food was great the service was less then desirable. The cocktail menu was great and the drinks I actually got were divine but the wait for them and the mood of the server was less then desirable especially for a birthday party, she treated us as if we were a hindrance and we were bothering her by asking her for drinks. Usually, when booking a private party, you get the best of the best as your server if this was their best, it definitely was not good enough.

The fried shrimp is really good. I had the chicken bruschetta dinner which totally sucked. The chicken was so dried out and it just was a salad chopped up with vinaigrette and it was definitely not worth it.. other than that, the zucchini fries were really good .steak was good..service was impeccable..

My friends and I took my wife out for dinner to celebrate her birthday. The waiter, Cesar (I believe that was his name), never checked in to see if we needed more drinks—we had to flag him down every time. By the end of the meal, our group felt his service was below average, so we tipped him $10 less. Shockingly, he had the nerve to come out while we were waiting for valet and complain about the tip. Such a shame—the restaurant is a perfect place for great drinks and great food, but experiences like this make us think twice about coming back.

Quite overrated and over priced. Cork wine -- replaced with a glass from a newly opened bottle, which I appreciated. But then the calamari had a spicy mayo sauce on it... Certainly not Italian imho. Then the pasta e fagioli soup was ok... Can't really mess that up though, right? The rigatoni was okay as well. Nothing mind-blowing. Goof portions. Also got the steak cheese sandwich. Had a few good slices pieces of strip steak cooked medium rare as I requested, sliced deli cheese melted on top (white and yellow) on Italian bread. My verdict: Should have just gone to Philly for a cheese steak.

This is the third time we have ordered food from this restaurant, and every single time something has gone wrong. This time, my husband placed an order through DoorDash, and the order arrived incomplete. When we contacted the restaurant, they said it was a “DoorDash issue” and that it had nothing to do with them. They did not offer any solution, only a simple “sorry,” and said they are not responsible for what DoorDash charges. This is really bad customer service. When a delivery is incorrect or incomplete, the customer should not be left without help or a solution. It is very frustrating to keep having problems every time we order from this restaurant.

Food is excellent. Linguini and clams perfect. Killer meatballs. Outstanding soups. Tremendous fried calamari... Problem is, bartenders are inexperienced and lack service ethic. Was in at 9pm on a weeknight. Group of cheery women in their 40's ordered wines. Bartender and bar back were annoyed. Served wines then both sat down at bar pouting, staring at their phones because they wanted to go home... They act like they're doing customers a favor rather than treating them as welcome guests. This is based on my last several visits there. Excellent food. Service needs vast improvement. For this reason, I rarely go anymore.

The place is a nice place, the service is pretty good but god, the food is so mediocre I don’t understand why. The is borderline microwave precooked type food. Flavorless, meat is chewy overall below average. Drinks are watered down with too much ice as well, improvements can be made or maybe chefs need to be changed? Price as well considering the quality of food, it is overpriced. If the quality was better it would be justified, paid over $200. Wouldn’t try again (tried twice)

Walked over but they do have valet parking. Was seated right away with little wait. Once I got seated the service turned horrible. Placed a drink order drinks took 15-20 mins to come. Ordered the meatball as an appetizer same thing took forever to come. Drinks are way too sweet and for 17 dollars aren’t worth it. The server never came back to get any more drink orders from the first time she came. Our entree took over a hour to come and they didn’t even bring the sides it’s supposed to come with. So now I’m sitting there even longer while food gets cold to wait for the sides it was supposed to come with. Overall food is okay and drinks aren’t that great for the price and service I wouldn’t come back here.

Food is tasty at this level but the quantity is small. Atmosphere is good but service is terrible: 1) Can hold my phone calls without any reason 2) waitresses are slow. If you give people a birthday QR code but customer cannot claim it and people hold their phone calls. It is better don’t do this trick because it just wastes my time and ruin my mood…

I really like the decor and the service was good, very nice atmosphere overall. I was however, extremely disappointed in the food....my lasagna had what appeared to be a chopped up hamburger patty used for the meat, the sauce tasted like it was straight from a can....extremely overpriced for the quality. Visited from out of town and really wanted to try a non chain restaurant, but we all left feeling like Applebee's or Texas Roadhouse would have satisfied our taste buds and pockets much better lol

I chose to have lunch here on my birthday with my son as tradition when I have evening plans. Been here before, burger was great at bar. On this occasion, ordered chicken and was surprised at accompanied pasta portion. Thought they mistakenly brought me a kids meal (really). My dish was reluctantly changed and the server never checked on my table again, not for beverages or otherwise. He was so smug when I expressed my concern. We made the best of it, tipped and left w/out even a bye/thank you.

This was supposed to be a chicken parm???? What I got instead was a roll with barely any sauce, no real cheese, and the so-called “chicken” you see in the picture. Yes, that flat, dry, mystery slab I’m holding is apparently what they think passes for chicken. It’s insulting. It looks and tastes like they scraped leftovers off the bottom of a pan and threw it on bread. Nothing about this resembles a chicken parm — it’s a scam. Absolute garbage, complete waste of money. If I could rate this place zero stars, I would. This costed $17 by the way. Extremely overpriced the fact they can get away with this is insane. Just look at the picture and tell me if you would be mad if this came to your door for that price.
