Frequently asked questions about Copper & Oak
Copper & Oak New York Reviews
This is such a superb bar. The bartender John was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, steered me in the right direction based on some comments about bourbons I liked. It’s a quiet bar, spirits only, no ice - while it may not be everyone’s taste, it’s an incredible way to dive into some special spirits and learn about the people that make them and their history.
Jon was a great host. Helped us find what we were looking for. Well informed. Great bartender. The space is small but beautiful. Great selection. We were able to try things that were on our wish list but we haven’t had any luck finding elsewhere. Will be back.
Tomo will NOT steer you wrong. If you have a scotch, or whiskey lover, please take them to see Tomo at Copper & Oak! Overwhelmingly beautiful and also very organized, my husband loved being able to try a variety of different whiskey. Tomo asked some very specific questions on why he liked a bourbon and then suggested trying x, y or z. Really knowledgeable and very kind. Will absolutely be returning!
Possibly my favorite whiskey bar in the world. The owner is knowledgeable and the menu is so extensive that you could probably drink here for the rest of your life and not repeat the whiskey you have for years. Just amazing.
If you're a whisky fan, Copper & Oak is the place to be. The moment you walk in, you can tell this spot is special. The vibe is cozy and classy, perfect for enjoying some of the best whiskies from around the globe. The highlight of Copper & Oak is definitely Tomo, the amazing bartender who somehow manages to take care of a full house all by himself. Watching Tomo work is like seeing a pro in action—he's quick, smooth, and makes sure everyone feels welcome, no matter how busy it gets. Tomo's whisky knowledge is out of this world. Whether you’re a whisky veteran or just getting started, he's got the perfect suggestion for you. He can chat about the different flavors, the history behind each bottle, and what makes them special. His passion for whisky is contagious, turning your drink into a mini-education. The whisky collection at Copper & Oak is huge and impressive. They've got everything from rare and vintage bottles to popular picks, all carefully chosen. Tomo knows every bottle inside and out and is always ready to help you discover something new that fits your taste. In a city with so many bars, Copper & Oak stands out thanks to its awesome whisky selection and Tomo’s unmatched expertise. Whether you're after a quiet night with a single malt or a fun evening trying new flavors, this bar should be at the top of your list. Cheers to more great nights at Copper & Oak!
Tomo, the bartender was absolutely lovely. Made great conversation and was super knowledgeable about the drinks in the establishment. We had the rum flight! Go here if you're a fan of tasting some high quality liquors or if you're more discerning of the quality of the alcohol you consume. As a more trashy cocktail girlie, I was a little out of my depth, but still had a lovely experience!
Most solid bar I experienced in NYC so far. As a whiskey lover I enjoyed the tasting flights. We got two flights. We got the Japanese and Scotch flights. Presented very well. They put the bottles in front of you, number them so that you know what you are trying. Hospitality was outstanding
Fantastic small bar with a humongous selection of whiskey among other great alcohol selections. The Japanese Barman was so friendly and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to discover some new tastes. That evening they also had a free tasting of single malts. Also the bar looks as great as in the pictures.
If you are a whiskey lover then this is heaven for you. Everything you can think of is pretty much here and the bartender is so knowledgeable that he can arrange you a delicious flight of whiskeys according to your taste preferences. Absolutely wonderful place with a relaxing atmosphere.
One of the coolest bars I've been to in New York, frankly. That being said, it's purpose is very specific. They pour incredible spirits, but it's not a place for other beverages. It is very very small, so a group is not ideal (a date is. Or yourself). They do 1 oz pours which is very convenient (and not expensive), but the bill will rise after several drinks. However, if you like spirits, enjoy intriguing, cozy, clever spaces, like to have a conversation with the bartender and learn about your beverage, are fond of attention to detail, have a deep appreciation for craftsmanship...any one of those, Copper & Oak is a place to visit. It's pretty superb!
My favorite place in town to have a glass of real liquor. Thousands of whiskeys, rums, tequilas, brandies, etc. Some being 50+ years old. The bartender is super friendly and knowledgeable, it's ridiculous how much he knows. I'd avoid the flights and just be adventurous and try random stuff or ask for recommendations.
It’s one thing to have an excellent selection of fine and rare whiskies and spirits of which there are a few in Manhattan. However, not many have an owner / bartender with the kind of knowledge and genuine understanding of each one in context of your particular tastes. I very much enjoyed for instance exploring some unusual finish Bourbons which were very small production and very rare but fit perfectly the description of what I enjoyed and wanted to further understand. All this was done with careful attention and explanation and if you are in the mindset to explore further whiskies in particular this is highly recommended. Great atmosphere and intimate but is slow service in the end with only one bartender. I’ll probably come back when I can, just will try to avoid busy hours.
Love this whiskey bar. The flight we tasted had 3 different whiskies and all of them were slightly different so there was a little bit of everything but still in the overall same wheelhouse. The staff working were also knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had while informing us of various other whiskey tidbits!
The food was not worth the cost. Had to send back the prime rib, lobster bisque was extremely salty and did not come out hot. Scallops were small and expensive. The waitress was very nice and the drinks were good. Overall not worth the cost.
