Donnybrook New York Reviews
I have a new favorite lower east side bar. I found this place randomly at 11AM Sunday looking for a place to watch Man U vs Swansea. The bar had just opened and bartender Maggie asked if I'd like her to google which channel it was on so she could set me up at a table of my own. Am I in heaven? Looking around I'm amazed that, with all due respect to the neighborhood, a place on Stanton smells and looks so clean and fresh at 11AM on a Sunday morning? The goodwill keeps building. More patrons trickle in for brunch. I have a ringside seat to see the food come out. Simple and beautifully prepared. I'm not hungry yet so I order coffee. A fresh pot next to the bar. Best coffee I've ever had. My luck is getting hard to believe. The waitress sits down with a view of the game to eat her lunch before things get busy. Gnama (sp?) is a Man U fan, too. A beautiful warm smile on a cold gray morning. She orders the Norwegian eggs: perfect poached eggs and ultra fresh salmon over English muffins with hash browns and a small salad on the side. I order the same and we talk about life and her amazing journey (seriously, ask her) while I wait. It's the perfect storm of soccer, coffee, breakfast, feng shui, authentic and friendly waitress and bartender. Do the owners know how lucky they are? I am so happy. Highest rating.
Come here nearly every weekend. Live right around the corner and with donnybrook in the neighborhood there isn't much of a reason to stray far! Drinks are solid and the bartenders are quite friendly.
It was my first time at DonnyBrook's. The place is a nice classic pub with a wide selection of Irish and worldwide spirits. Love the atmosphere 😄😁.
Tim the bartender is a gem. Place is great for a night out. Even Steve DJ had the place bumping.
pretty much as good as anywhere else. I had a Guinness and then another. The Guinness tasted like a Guinness thanks Donny
Great venue and bar had a blast with a group for a buddys birthday, bartenders were awesome, good times. Gets crowded which isnt a bad thing
Highly recommend this pub! Maria, Vinnie and Avery are all amazing. I will definitely be back my next trip to NYC just to see them.
Excellent Guinness, decent prices, friendly, characterful building.
Nice pub.. entry limited due to Covid but staff is really nice. They have also made outside sitting arrangement if you are not comfortable sitting inside bar..
A real beauty. Consistent crowd. Solid Guinness. Clean. Plenty of bathrooms. Solid on the week nights. Awesome on the weekends. The Don' rides.
The spicy pepperoni pizza was really good! Gotta also try the vodka! Very friendly service!
Such an amazing sashimi dinner! The ikura was to die for and they're limited on sake but I recommend the junmai, chilled.
Great local bar, very class. Owner is awesome, always takes care of us when we come in.
Stopped in for a drink while exploring NYC great service friendly atmosphere
Great bar. Prices are decent, service is amazing and atmosphere is good.
Great place for a drink. Was at a birthday party there and we all have a great time, nice staff and great beer
Good bar staff, nice decor, good drinks. All good 🙂
Low key neighborhood bar on Clinton Street with huge barnwood tables and a marble-topped bar. Friendly bartenders, reasonable prices and happy hour till 8pm We just had a couple of drinks and an appetizer (hummus) this time but I am definitely coming back. Planning to have my next group happy hour here as it seems perfect for large groups
Kenna was my server. She is so cool and super friendly we chatted for like 2 hours. The prices here were so good, and I just happened to be there during happy hour which is when you get $2 off of any drink. Highly recommend, would go again.
Great gathering spot on the LES. Most of the local educators hang out there on Friday after work so it's crowded on a late Friday afternoon.
Stopped in for a couple of drinks during a recent trip to NYC - the Guinness was some of the best we had in the city (we're from Ireland) and it had a great atmosphere! Great staff.
LOVE Donnybrook. This place is the picture of a good Irish pub. Food is phenomenal, beer is fresh. The Irish breakfast is awesome. You also get a drink with your meal, even top shelf.
Donnybrook is one of those bars that warms the stomach and brings a smile to your face. Great local spot, I love stopping in for a pint. I went one Saturday night and they had this killer DJ Peter Peter, hopefully they bring him back more often! The bartenders are some of the greatest people I've met in New York, I can't wait to go back.
A fine place to have a drink while you wait for your show to start down the street at Caveat. I liked that it wasn't overly crowded. Prompt service.
Love this place! Mad cheap drinks even outside the happy hour deals. They let you bring food from other restaurants during the day. Perfect place to work/study if you wanna avoid the congestion at all the coffee shops in LES
Donnybrook has the atmosphere of a"Cheers" neighborhood bar. People are friendly & welcoming. The bar also offers a few snacks such as the warm pretzel with cheddar cheese & mustard (my favorite). Definitely a place to sit , sip, & snack.
Had holiday drinks here with a big group. Great bar! Lots of space, great music and delicious drinks. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood!
Best bar in the area, I am very thankfully with the bartender pretty good person evereything ok. If you are in the area take a moment to try the Guinness beer
A really Amazing and Cool Bar, where you can have Wonderful Cocktails, Drinks and eat All Type of Great Appetizers. The Bar atmosphere is Incredible at Night!!!!!
An amazing bar for some afternoon hangs. Bartender was awesome and had good demeanor. Cannot wait to come back here next time I'm in the city. Hope the same bartender is around!
If my life were a sitcom filmed in front of a live audience, this is the pub where most of the scenes would take place. This is my Central Perk (Friends reference). This is my McClaren’s (How I Met Your Mother reference). This is my whatever diner Jerry and his friends always went to (bad Seinfeld reference). Solid beer selection, cozy environment that’s quiet enough that you can feel confident that you’ll get a table to watch the game, but busy enough that you don’t feel sad and alone when you’re there. The bartenders are friendly—it’s the type of place where you’ll learn each other’s names and they’ll pour you the regular without asking when you show up late one night, demoralized because your 10th tinder date in a row didn’t turn out to be the one. Also the pretzels are hella tight.
Nice vibe and good happy hour
Great Ambience, awesome crowd and wonderful bartenders. Super fun place to go grab a drink with friends.
I really loved this pub for the cozy and lively feel without being too crowded, loud, or overbearing. Their selection of bourbon left nothing to be desired and that's the best thing about this bar by far. Great place to bring friends as you can actually have conversation unlike a lot of crowded bars in the city. A great experience overall and would highly recommend it.
Came here to watch the women's world cup. It felt like a family; and I felt at home. The bartender knew everyone and was very welcoming. They don't have a big food selection so people have food delivered which is kinda cool. Haven't felt that comfortable in a bar in my whole life. Good experience, wish I had a bar like this in DC.
My local, been coming here for last 4 years. Love the bar staff (vinny especially). The outside area has now made it 10 times better! Make sure you stop in and support local. The spiked hot chocolate is great in winter! Can’t wait for summer. Can get busy so can take a while to get a seat but worth the wait.
Came for a single drink before an event at a different venue. The bartender was super friendly and even provided alternatives when the drink I requested wasn't available. I got a wonderful feel from this place upon my very visit and will revisit Donnybrook based on this experience alone.
Pretty good bar in the famous Lower East Side neighborhood of Manhattan. Went there with a group friends to just get some drinks and dance for a bit so don’t have any input on the kitchen. The vodka redbulls had a great ratio of the two components, and a bucket of beers comes with 8 beers (instead of your standard 6). The DJ was honestly absolutely firing playing mostly songs that one would hear at a high school party in the mid-2010s like levels, and black eyed peas. Also as opposed to most dive/dance bars in LES there was quite a bit of space to showcase ones’ dance skills which is always a lot fun! Definitely recommend for anybody looking for divesque bar where you can dance on a Saturday night.
Warm atmosphere, nice vibe, great selection of draft beers from local breweries. Ian at the bar really knows about beers and is very helpful in suggesting a good one according to your taste, he even let me try different beers so I could choose the one I like most. Probably the best pub in the area.
After a night out at a few places I realized I had lost my wallet. When I opened up Instagram the next day I was incredibly happy to see they had looked me up and messaged me that my wallet was there. I am unbelievable thankful that they went above and beyond to reach out to me. This place is a welcome reprieve from much of the rest of the LES. It has a classic interior that is dark, warm, and inviting and the bartenders are friendly and unpretentious. It's great place to go with friends and enjoy each other's company.
I forgot how much I loved Guinness! Was there last weekend for wedding after party? Perfect location!
I went to Donnybrook earlier today and the staff working were beyond kind and friendly!! Even though the bar was crowded and busy, Maria and Avery were patient and efficient, while making fire cocktails 🔥 I am always so impressed when I come here. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in the neighborhood!
Awesome staff. Especially Maria and Charles, reasonable prices. Millennial heavy weekend nights, chill older crowd during the week. Totally worth a visit!
Honestly didn't even have a drink (friend did & liked it) but I had the hummus with pita & olives 2x in a row because it was SO good. If they sold jars of the olives, I'd definitely buy them on the regular. They are generous with the hummus & the bartenders are nice—worth a visit.
Our Sunday soccer league rivals come here weekly after games. They invite us - great establishment, family-friendly, and amazing vibes. Serves all occasions
Wow, no words. Except I’ll find them…DB is a home away from home. Bartenders are incredible. Best pint of Guinness in the city. Ireland, who is she? She’s at Donny
Great place to have a quiet pint in the city. Sean is a great bartender. $6 Guinness 12-7pm M-F
I’ve been coming to donnybrook on and off for years and the bar never fails to meet expectations. Whether you wanna do some work on your laptop on a chill tuesday afternoon or watch a game on a busy thursday or dance in a packed room on friday or saturday, Donny has the best prices and bartenders in the LES. They are always fast and quick to help. Totally recommend especially for happy hour. One of the best deals in the LES.
Excellent bar. Great staff and regulars. Beautiful layout. Guinness quite creamy
Good happy hour prices and good service
Great drinks, cool vibe, and super friendly staff, the perfect spot to relax or kick off the night.
Stopped in for happy hour before trivia night. Great happy hour, it was half off all beers. The vibe inside was quiet but place is nice.
This is a solid local (and very spacious) pub with outdoor seating. I came here for a quick drink before dinner and was attended to quickly. Great service! There are also TV screens here so I'm sure they show various sporting events. Pro-tip: As of this review they don't accept tap pay so have your physical card handy (or cash!)
Love this place and their picnic tables. The drinks here are priced fairly. Happy hour is between 12-8pm, which is always good. They have snacks from cheese and cured meats, hummus, nuts and etc. Staffs are friendly and nice and the atmosphere feels lively and comfortable. Overall will come back soon with my Co workers.
Good place for late night drinks, can sometimes take a bit to get the order in but overall fun time
Great space! Good drinks. Reason for the 4 star is the food took 25 minutes for hot dogs
TVs for sports, outdoor seating, great staff. Wish they had more beers on tap, but it’s a great spot.
This is a nice place with music hopefully next time I'll try a drink here.
I frequent Donnybrook a lot because I have friends who live close by. It's not my scene, but the bartenders and staff here are hospitable and hard working. The drinks and food are always solid. The music isn't too bad either. There's a lot of space and on most night it's not too crowded.
Came here for a few drinks before heading across the street to get ramen. It was dead but early and it was packed by the time we were done for dinner. No complaints, they have decent happy hour specials that run for hours.
Very nice bar and establishment, with a quiet atmosphere and nostalgic music. A good place for good times with good friends about old times with old friends in those old places. Go. Have a drink. Love your friends in a lovely spot.
One of the few traditional bars located on the clinton street section. Can't go wrong coming here with a group of friends as the drinks are pretty strong. Definitely could be a local water hole for the people of LES.
Stopped in after work with a couple coworkers and had a really nice time. Good whiskey selection and solid beer options. It got louder as the night went on, but nothing unexpected for the Lower East Side. Not a food destination, but perfect if you’re just there for drinks.
Stopped in for some brunch as another place we wanted to go had a 3 hour wait. The $20 bottomless brunch + ~$15 brunch plates is a stellar deal if you want to get a good brunch buzz going. Food was alright but nothing special. Got the breakfast burger and it was alright. The fries were delicious though. Service was great!
It was late on a Friday night when I came here. At this point it goes from a simple bar into more of a dance hall. The place was a bit crowded but I found a small corner to get some beers and hang out. It's fairly close to the subway station.
Great local bar with a really relaxed vibe. The bartenders are usually all very friendly but sometimes they'll tell you there's a card minimum so it seems like it's an occasional rule. It's a great place to go and talk - occasionally there will be a few sports on (soccer games usually). Love Donnybrook- went there for St. Patrick's Day for hours and it was amazing. Never tried their food but it always smells delicious. I recommend getting a Guinness every time
The bartenders super cool. The drinks excellent. Service was outstanding. Choices were great. I'd give this place five stars but the clients that frequent this bar are HORRIBLE Humans
This is a local "pub" and it's a great place to meet with friends. Their bar food, including sliders and fries are excellent. I often come here to meet people before going out because it's conveniently located on an easy corner from many different bars in the Lower East Side and the East Village. The staff is personable and friendly especially if you come before the crowds later on.
Great service, great drinks, but it was very loud and difficult to talk, even though the bar was not very crowded when we went.
Decent atmosphere, though the music was one the loud side. A lot of yelling to hear each other.
Love this place! Very much a local Irish joint. Nice loud music and great service with a smile. Reasonably priced, young, fun-loving crowd. Visit if you're in the area. Open till the early hours of the morning at the weekends from what i understand.
Odd space, there didn't seem to be enough bar stools and it felt empty despite the crowd. Drinks were ok but the bartender was fed up, we could barely get her attention.
Eghhhh, it's a bar, nothing special. No real happy hour if you think about it. I believe it's $2 off from all drinks and most drinks are $12-$14. Ummm I won't be coming back unless I have to lol. The bartenders were nice though.
Donnybrook was a fun place for a nightcap, but it definitely wasn't my favorite bar that I went to while in NYC. It didn't feel like it had that much personality or a unique identity, and nothing about it really stuck out. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing bad about it, there just wasn't anything particularly notable. I would recommend as a place to wrap up your night however.
It's a great pub, but man, this place needs to get some sound absorbing materials in. It absolutely crushes your ears to be here. It gets loud from people just talking, so they raise the music so people can hear it, so people speak louder so they can hear themselves, so they raise the music so people can hear it, so people speak louder so they can hear themselves, so they raise the music so people can hear it, so people speak louder so they can hear themselves, so they raise the music so people can hear it, so people speak louder so they can hear themselves, so they raise the music so people can hear it, so people speak louder so they can hear themselves, so they raise the music so people can hear it, so people speak louder so they can hear themselves, so they raise the music so people can hear it. You get the picture. Absolutely unbearable noise levels, you can't hear your friends, and you have no voice when you get back home. Guinness is alright though.
First time I’ve been to an Irish pub that doesn’t know how to pour a Guinness. For those that aren’t certified to pour a Guinness by Guinness, you pour to the top of the harp, wait for it to settle, and then push the tap forward to fill up the rest and create a dome. I had three Guinness here to give them ample opportunities to prove me wrong. They poured three flat Guinness pints, the domes were all wrong, and they didn’t follow the standard practice of pushing the tap forward after the settle. Shame.
Three friends and I came by this bar after dinner earlier. We were just having a beer each, not rowdy, obnoxious, or anything of that sort. About 20 minutes after we got there, a man came up to me and was asking me to move so he could get his jacket. It was a miscommunication, and I thought it was under mine on the windowsill while he reached under my stool, which caused my elbow to knock into my half full pint of beer. My friends grabbed napkins, and we immediately started cleaning it up (the man walked away without a word). After this, an employee came up with a mop. He asked us to move (no please) so he could mop under the table. Totally understandable! Then he told me to “Pick up your jacket,” (again impolitely), referring to a jacket on the floor that did not belong to me. I said “Oh, that’s not mine,” as an automatic response. He then said “Well you can still pick it up.” I picked it up. As a service worker myself, I am familiar with rude customers, so I attempted to clarify that I wasn’t trying to be rude as a simple courtesy. He cut me off and said “I don’t care” I continued trying to finish my sentence, I tried about 4 times with him continuously cutting me off and being extremely rude and dismissive towards me, telling me to stop “running my mouth” and saying “yet you’re still talking.” I stopped trying to speak and my friends and I immediately left. As someone who works in food/hospitality, I was appalled by this. Never EVER would I speak to a customer like that, even if they were actually being rude to me. He was continuously scolding me like a teacher or parent. I can’t help but feel it’s because my friends and I are women in our early twenties, but I’ll make no assumptions. Either way, I sadly will not be returning ever, which sucks because I loved the atmosphere and the bartender.
Bartender was incredibly kind and sweet and deserving of every tip. 10/10 However, the bar attendant/door guy/buss guy was entirely rude and combative. 4 of my girlfriends came in and we sat at a table as we were enjoyed 1 drink. We had been there all of 20 minutes when this guy came up and verbally attacked my friend. He insisted she “stop talking” after she obliged to his request to move her stool so that he could mop up a drink spill under her. Stood up, moved her stool, and was helpful. He asked her to “pick up a coat” from the floor that was not hers. (As a service worker, not her job.) “That is not my coat, I’m not sure who’s that is” insighted a verbal altercation where he was overtly uninterested in listening to her. “Keep running your mouth, keep talking”— she barely said one sentence. Absolutely disgusting and New York is no place for outright misogyny and disrespect. He would not have spoken to any man in our vicinity that way. Unnecessary friction for a Tuesday night out for one singular drink.
Brunette lady at the door was rude. We barely sat down and she gave us attitude simply bc we were the only POC. Please take your business elsewhere
The overall bar and atmosphere is fine, however the service and servers here are awful. The same two girls continue to make me feel uncomfortable. Don’t come here if you want to deal with catty girls with attitudes.
Make sure to check your bill before paying.1 star cuz of the awful bathroom. Dirty wall next to the toilet that is a very sus color. The door also doesn’t lock and the handle is broken. Use bathroom at your own risk or just try another bar. Toilet won’t flush either
The way my friends and I were treated here yesterday evening was absolutely disgusting and shocking. I still can't believe it. I came in here with two of my friends because we had to wait 1.5 hours for our reservation to Ivan Ramen across the street. My friends and I walked in and we are all trying to decide if we even want to drink here. So we are on our way to look at the beer selection to see. And literally the moment we arrive the bartender (a girl with dark hair and a side-part working the 7:30pm shift on Sunday, November 12th) has the nastiest attitude to us ever and demands "I NEED TO SEE ALL YOUR IDs". We haven't decided if we are even staying at this place or not but I was like uh okay just in case we did decide to drink. But from my understanding, protocol is supposed to be IF I order a drink, then you ask for an ID. The bar was retry empty. There were maybe 5 people already there. She was already being extremely nasty to us. I give her my passport, which I am aware is expired. But you can't fake a passport - it's actually very illegal to do so. Also, I've been using my expired passport for YEARS and have NEVER had an issue anywhere. Especially when every single thing in my wallet (bank card, health insurance card, etc has the same exact name on it as the passport). Oh and I also have stamps in it too so it's been used to travel abroad. The bartender literally spends 3 minutes reading my entire passport and I can already feel that she is trying to find a reason to not service us. I've never had anyone READ every single word on my passport before. She then tells me (in a VERY NASTY AND SNARKY TONE) "I CANT TAKE THIS ITS EXPIRED". And I proceed to explain to her that everything else in my wallet has the same name on it and SHE INTERRUPTS ME AND YELLS "IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER ID I CANT SERVICE YOU". SHE TURNS HER BACK .... LITERALLY TURNS HER BACK ON US. WOW! Wow okay. And I explain to her "that's okay, I did not want a drink". I was not rude to this woman AT ALL. The reason I told her that was because I was unsure if she wanted to check my friends' IDs and she keeps her back turned and rejects all three of us because of me. So we were all shocked and turned off that we left. So we are standing in the corner to figure out where to wait next and THE BARTENDER COMES OUTSIDE and goes to a group of girls and tells them "ugh so sorry that took me so long!" Literally right in front of us. ALL THREE OF US WERE SHOCKED. SHE DID NOT SERVICE US BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO MEET UP WITH HER FRIENDS OUTSIDE ... RIGHT IN FRONT OF US! Wow, just absolutely WOW. We ended up taking our business elsewhere right next door to Ivan Ramen. I did use my expired passport and I had a glass of wine. That's fine if you can't take expired passports, but you can be NICE about it - for example, "I'm so sorry I can't except this here because it's an expired passport it's the policy in our bar. Do you happen to have any other IDs with you?" That is professional. But just to be treated the way we were was absolutely embarrassing and mortifying ESPECIALLY when I've drank there before using the same passport and have had no problem in the past. Again, it's fine if you developed a new policy with IDs, I completely understand and respect that, but this girl was absolutely nasty and turned away business to meet up with her friends outside. I have never wished anyone to be fired before but the way I was treated so so humiliating, I hope this woman gets fired. She does not deserve a job. I am demanding an apology from this woman. Please send me a message and I'd be happy to give you my phone number, but she needs to apologize. That was absolutely disgusting!!!! I will never step foot in this place AGAIN. And neither will my friends.
Witnessed the bar tenders on a busy night goofing around with each other more than serving people, which was quickly followed by one of them yelling at a customer for asking a drink suggestion. Also learned that two different people I met at the bar had gotten their cell phones stolen while there. We left right after that.
