Gotham Café New York Reviews
A great local place. Not exceptional espresso but pretty decent and the place is bustling with a warm atmosphere. Staff great and family run. A really good place to meet up as it's big enough to always have a chair available
The Gotham Cafe is a wonderful neighborhood cafe where you can start your day with a hearty breakfast, such as their delicious homemade oatmeal meal with bananas, walnuts and brown sugar or enjky any of their fabulous omelets. For lunch, on a cold day, their soups are wonderful! I love their chicken noodle soup as well as their wonderful salads snd sandwiches.
The smoothies were absolutely excellent. fresh flavorful and perfectly blended by Mooomood. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
There is no finer place than Gotham Cafe. The staff is outstanding in every way and make it pleasure to be there. The service, food and beverages areTHE BEST. Go there you will love it.
This is what costumer service should be everywhere! The ladies are super nice and iT’s always great to start the day with a smile
What a great place for coffee and breakfast! You have bagels a lot of spreads. Cookies delicious cakes and sweets! I took a green tea matcha that was the best I have ever taken it was without sugar and I added honey. The place is coffee shop so you can relax and enjoy your breakfast and coffee. Definitely going back. Pastry chef Hen
I stopped in today after having lunch at a nearby restaurant. I was also here a couple of weeks ago and had a panini and it was delicious. Today I just wanted an Americano coffee. Very nicely brewed. Fairly crowded today so I had to sit very close to other people which I do not like. I like to have space from other people.
Their food is good but the last few times I’ve been there the peanut butter was off. Like it doesn’t taste like normal peanut butter, the one they have recently been using tastes like nothing and doesn’t melt the same. Also, their customer service needs work. It’s like they don’t understand “service with a smile “ concept. I almost hate going here because of the service but do because of the convenient location. And I normally like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but every time I come in there nobody has a good attitude and makes me feel as though I’m not welcomed.
Their signage is inaccurate. Sign says breakfast is served till 3 pm and when we ordered at 2:30 pm they said the grill was off. Lies.
For years I’ve gone to this cafe and ordered teas and baked goods. Sometimes I have to use the restroom after a long commute. I often use the restroom first before ordering because I really have to go or don’t want to take my food and tea in there. So today I decided to use the restroom before ordering and the owner (who I’ve ordered from many times) walked all the way from the front counter to the bathroom door to tell me that I need to order something to use the restroom. I assured him that I absolutely intend on ordering and he DEMANDED very aggressively that I order first. He was quite scary to be honest and I walked out because I felt very uncomfortable. I have never used the restroom at an establishment without purchasing something. I respect small business owners because my father was one. It actually makes me sad knowing I can’t walk in there again. I’m not returning because he didn’t let me use the restroom but because he truly lacked any humanity. He did not see me as a person. His ego was too big to allow him to trust another human being. That’s not how people in NYC treat each other. We look out for one another. I never do this but I can’t support a business that doesn’t lead with compassion.
Never going here again. I ordered a Chai Tea Latte and after asking of it was sweet they said it just had vanilla powder. It was not good. It didnt taste like Chai, just vanilla sweet milk. Kinda like a vanilla protein shake but hot. I respectfully and nicely went up to ask the lady who made my beverage if i could exchange it for a cafe mocha and right away she just gave me attitude and said “its mocha it’s gong to be sweet too” and after i explained it would be different because of the vanilla powder she said she wouldnt exchange it. I threw the whole thing away and left. Her attitude was TERRIBLE. I love supporting businesses in my neighborhood but this one I will have to tell people to go somewhere else. Service is everything nowadays. Plus cleanliness is something. The table I sat at was not wiped down and dirty.
I was craving a bagel and while walking to the post office I saw the place and entered. I Ordered a toasted bagel and it was served in record time, I sat and the bagel came Noticed the bagel was not toasted and went to the cashier to let her know and I got the same bagel with grill lines on top. I was expecting a better experience
I highly recommend you stay as far away from this place as possible. I was traveling upstate and I stopped to pick up a rack and when I got into my car about 10 miles away, I started to try to eat the sandwich, but it was not only completely falling apart because the bread did not hold the sandwich together, but as a chicken Caesar salad, it was big chunks of lettuce chunks of dried chicken with almost no dressing at all. I just basically dumped it and came back to tell the owner for the manager what happened and he wanted proof he said I could be lying that didn’t really in fact I wasted my time walking into a restaurant to complain about something because I wanted him to give me a $10 sandwich for free… Don’t go there the food is miserable. The people are not neighborhood friendly and Customer Service is the worst. I don’t have a photo because I was driving that would’ve been dangerous.
I used to come here a lot and loved it. I especially really loved their iced peppermint mochas - they would take their time to make it and put love and care into it. I'm not in the area as often anymore and came back today just for the peppermint mocha and the quality of service I remembered. First, I was waiting for my drink, and the workers didn't even realize I paid for an order and needed to ask me what I was waiting for, once she finished serving the white customers who came after me. Then, to make the drink, she essentially made a hot peppermint mocha and threw ice in it, and for the price it tastes watered down and terrible. Really disappointed, won't be coming back anymore. The cafe definitely became cheap / fell off compared to the quality of service delivered before.
