$8 for a small bowl of chicken empanada soup and a coke, along with complimentary bread, a small andes chocolate, and an apple for some reason. It was absolutely delicious especially in the cold and well worth the money, though not as good as seinfeld exaggerates it because this isnt a sitcom

You don’t come here just for soup. The Original Soup Kitchen lives up to the legend. The line moves fast, the rules are clear, and the reward is worth it. Everything is rich, perfectly seasoned, and made with actual care. The lobster bisque is thick and comforting; the vegetable soup tastes like someone’s grandmother still runs the kitchen. It’s not fancy dining, it’s a New York experience in a cup. If you’re nearby, skip the pretentious spots and grab the soup that started a sitcom episode. Just follow the line, don’t hesitate when you order, and prepare to be converted.

This place is one of the best lunch options in the city, in my opinion. Every soup comes with bread, a fruit, and a chocolate. Every soup I've ever tried here has been amazing and my only regret is not getting the biggest size. Very, very worthwhile if you enjoy soup!

I stopped by this soup kitchen in Manhattan and absolutely loved it! The soup was delicious and came with a small piece of chocolate, a slice of bread, and even a grape — such a nice touch for the price. The girl at the cashier was fantastic, with a warm and friendly smile that made my day. Highly recommend this place to everyone! 🥰🥰

*5/5 Stars - A Soup-er Spot That's Pure Gold 🍲* I'm obsessed with The Original Soup Kitchen! 😍 This Portland institution has been serving up delicious soups and unforgettable experiences since 1984 📆. As a huge Seinfeld fan, I was thrilled to discover that this place was featured in one of my favorite episodes 🤣. Who can forget Elaine's infamous jambalaya soup grab? 🤪 *The Soup Game is Strong 🍲* The soup selection is always on point, with a variety of options to suit every taste bud 🤤. From creamy tomato to broccoli cheddar, each spoonful is a taste sensation 😋. And don't even get me started on the bread – freshly baked and perfect for dipping 🍞. *Grab-and-Go Perfection 🚀* Just a heads up – this isn't your typical sit-down restaurant. It's a grab-and-go spot, so you can fuel up and go! 🏃‍♀️ Perfect for a quick lunch or snack on-the-go. I love that it's fast, friendly, and no fuss 🤩. *A Spot That's Truly Iconic 🌟* The atmosphere is cozy and eclectic, with a fun 90s vibe that'll make you feel like you're hanging out with the Soup Nazi himself, Jerry Seinfeld 😂. The staff are friendly, and the lines move quickly – it's a win-win! 💸 *Tips for Visitors 📝* - Get there early – the lines can get long, but trust me, it's worth the wait ⏰. - Try the jambalaya soup – it's a nod to the iconic episode, and it's SO GOOD 🔥. - Don't be afraid to get a little messy – it's soup, after all! 🍴 - Take a photo with the iconic Soup Kitchen sign – it's a Portland bucket list moment 📸. *The Verdict 🤩* The Original Soup Kitchen is a must-visit destination for any Portland newbie or Seinfeld superfan 🤓. Delicious as expected. Ordered the lobster bisque and it was definitely pleasant. A liiittle expensive for the size considering it’s literally just soup; but it’s NYC and of course you’re paying for the novelty of the brand. I definitely can’t complain. Maybe next time I’ll get yelled at and that will suddenly make it worth the fuss 😂

I love coming here for my lobster bisque and then I occasionally like to enjoy the lobster roll. The soup is hearty warm and very satisfying. The lobster roll is quick and pretty good

Great little take away spot for soup. I had the New England clam chowder it was very tasty and good price. Will definitely go again to try the other soups.

Both lobster bisque and jambalaya are good. I can understand why George Constanza insisted on the sourdough bread. A bit pricey and apples they give are not in the best shape. Certainly an iconic location to visit

I got a large lobster bisque today. It’s freezing cold and windy today. I didn’t want my pup to get cold so I just ate it on the move. The lobster bisque was so creamy and rich. It has chopped up celery, cubed potatoes, and shredded carrots in it, along with pieces of lobster and fish. It was simply delicious. The bread it came with was also nice and fresh. It even came with an apple, which I did not expect. It not only warmed my stomach, but also my heart. It was a great soup kitchen and I’ll definitely come back again and try the other soups.

The place was very close to my hotel, so I bought soup three times. It is always to take away, but you can order there and eat standing up (there is space and the street is never crowded). Sometimes I saw a small queue in the evening. If the soup is finished early, then you can expect that the place will be closed a little earlier than the schedule indicates in Google. The lobster roll is small, but the soups are totally worthy and that's the reason I didn't decrease the stars for that. The list of soups changes every day. They give a piece of bread, mint chocolate and a fruit (apple, pear, banana). Considering the usual prices in NYC, this place has a very good price. I ordered the smallest size of soup, and for me it was enough.

What a 'cute' little shop, and absolutely worth a visit or more. I went twice during my trip in NYC. First time ordered the small lobster bisque and at $10, they also give you a piece of bread, butter, and a fruit and the type of fruit do rotate. The pieces of lobster were juicy and yummy and yes can be a little for $10 but is the small portion, and hence, I would recommend at least the medium size (had it on my second visit), and at $2 more, you can really have and taste many more lobster chunk, absolutely worth it. The lobster bisque is also thick but not overly creamy, savoury but not overly salted. Also tried the lobster roll the second time and equally good too, and quite alright pricing for NYC standard. Staff were also nice and do not have any airs despite the place being a previous popular TV filming spot. Highly recommend to check out this place.

Famous takeout-only soup spot featured in the Seinfeld series as the “Soup Nazi.” Offers a wide variety of soups, with the lobster bisque band jambalaya being amazing rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Quick and efficient service makes it perfect for grabbing a satisfying meal on the go specially during colder weather

Decent soup but they don’t have any of the “no soup for you” mug in black. The lobster is a chunky soup, not those smooth type. Very good

I tried their chicken noodle and lobster bisque. Both soups were good. I liked them, although not as much as the Seinfeld series exaggerated. Chicken noodle was better. The bread (yes, bread), banana and chocolate they gave as a complimentary treat made me happy.

The bone broth exists! Which is cool! A cup of bone broth for $5. It’s just not very tasty. Prices all around are good. Very solid lunch spot.

The Original Soup Kitchen also known as the Soup Nazi from the Seinfeld series. Good selection of soups daily. The soups are pretty good but definitely not the best I've had. And no, the owner was not there to scrowl at the customers. And there was not a line. The staff were friendly.

Overly priced place for soups. Decent taste but this tiny container of jambalaya is not worth $9!
