Sugar Monk New York Reviews
The vibe is intimate and music Playlist is top tier. The drinks are very well balanced. Only tried desserts and they were delicious!
Great music, great ambience, nice smell, awesome drinks. Best old fashioned i have ever had, and I have had quite a few. Small but tasty food selection. Best and most addictive popcorn in the world.
Incredible bar/restaurant. Amazing and polite staff. The cocktails are incredible, and the bites are dope. Highly highly recommend.
I love this place. I don’t make it up here nearly enough since I live downtown, but every visit reminds me why Sugar Monk is so special. The music is perfect, the vibe is classic New York cool, the crowd is great, and the cocktails are consistently creative and delicious. But the real standout is Cortnee. Her energy is incredible, her smile is infectious, and somehow she always knows exactly what I want before I even ask. She makes you feel seen, and that alone makes this place unforgettable.
Great place! Happy hour till 7pm and great choices there! There regular menu is so creative. Classic vibe but with their own twist. The old fashioned was great, very balanced and the burnt bay leaf was awesome. The Marie Laveu was amazing, the presentation, the flavor, everything was great! Highly recommend!
This bar is super cozy, dimly lit, music playing low. Love that everyone can conversate without it being too loud. Drinks were great, I had the "over the volcano", the truffle popcorn was so yummy, and we had amazing service, the bartender even gave us shots on the house. We had an amazing time and would definitely come back!
Sugar Monk is a hidden gem with a truly artistic soul. I was immediately captivated by the stunning Marina Abramović artwork on the wall—it sets a unique and thought-provoking tone for the space. The concept of the menu is just as creative, offering cocktails that are as inventive as they are delicious. Every drink felt carefully crafted, balancing flavors beautifully. The atmosphere is intimate and stylish, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed yet sophisticated evening. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates great cocktails🥰
One of my favorite bars in the city. The drinks are insane—many have ~a dozen ingredients and all sorts of herbs and spices and ingredients I had to look up. They make their own Amari!! The drink list is inventive and creative and extensive. We consulted the server for help and she gave us great recommendations and accompanying stories behind the drinks. The vibes inside are also great. This place is a treasure
I read about Ektoras Binikos on The Joy of Mixology and decided to go and try his bar as his approach towards mixology really appealed to me. Went on a Saturday late afternoon around 6pm without reservation and we were able to get two spots at the bar. The atmosphere and decorations calls your attention straight away making me feel more in Europe than in Harlem. I tried their Negroni (which was on happy hour) and a couple of their signature cocktails. Their Negroni was really good however it was their signature cocktails that really surprised me; I've been to many of the "Top 50 world best bars" but the cocktails I had at Sugar Monk are probably better than most from those bars: very creative, balanced and for all tastes. Their service is very attentive. Very professional bartenders. So happy I found this place and I'm surprised this hasn't have the hype that deserves!
This place is an incredible cocktail bar! 🍸 Sugar Monk in Harlem serves an unbelievable selection of amazingly crafted cocktails🍹 - definitely try the Between the Devil 😈 and the Deep Blue Sea 🌊 cocktail!🥃 Their menu 📃 breakdown each choice and it's inspiration and even notes which glass 🍷 it comes in. The ambience 🎶 is fantastic, it's beautifully decorated 🛋️, the staff 👨🍳 is super friendly and professional, and the service is quick! ⏲️ Definitely make a reservation 🛎️ in advance. I wish I came here more often!
Where do I begin? This space is extremely sexy and cozy. Dimly lit craft cocktail heaven. We arrived and we’re immediately seated. Staff was helpful and very attentive. We ordered the prosciutto and, shamefully, had two bowls of the popcorn because it was delicious! Staff was helpful in helping us pick out the types of drinks we’d like and was sure to check on us and our agreement with the drink once we had the opportunity to try it. The music compliments the aesthetics which were tastefully done, might I add. They have a large selection of spirits and an amazing mixologist. I definitely will return.
We chose Sugar Monk as a romantic, intimate place to celebrate NYE countdown. We were seated outdoors, whenever we see vacant seats or when some guests leave, we asked to be moved indoors where we can experience that great vibe, live jazz music, dance and toast for the fantastic New Year like they advertised. The indoor had assigned seating. Whatever we did, we will have to do the countdown outdoors, we couldn’t see the live band nor hear them start the countdown. We felt like outsiders trying to crash the party. It was ok to be told sit outdoors any given night, but for the New Year’s seeing vacant seats reserved for the owners friends and not able to witness live music (what we looked forward to), our table was on the street floor i wore my jacket while we ate and while we toasted. Staff were nice, tried to accommodate us but they had to follow instructions. Love the ambiance, wish we were able to enjoy it for the NY.
The bar is top notch, however there is one bar tender looks Latin he is unprofessional and hostile, he kept hustling me all my stay with mo obvious reasons and i was minding my own business and he keeps victimising me all time. Two days ago i went there and it was very lovely the staff was completely different. All in all very good bar service is outstanding and beverage is so good except for that latin bar tinder.
I’ve been a loyal customer at Sugar Monk for years, but what happened tonight was unacceptable. While I was sitting on the patio, a server with long blonde hair decided to carry a chair over her head and hit the chandelier above me. It fell and struck my shoulder—an incident that was completely avoidable and frankly dangerous. What made it worse was how the server handled it. She asked if anyone was hit, and I told her it landed on my shoulder. Instead of coming over, apologizing, or making sure I was okay, she just walked off after a nearby table told her “everything was fine.” She never checked on me again. The most shocking part? I heard her say she wanted to “avoid a lawsuit,” yet she made no effort to speak to the person who was actually hit. That says a lot about where her priorities were—certainly not with guest safety or responsibility. A coworker did try to smooth things over with a shot and some popcorn, and I appreciated that, but it doesn’t erase the original server’s reckless behavior or her complete disregard afterward. I’ve always loved this place, which makes this even more disappointing. Luckily, I was wearing a Knicks hat that protected my face when the chandelier fell, because this could have ended a lot worse. Sugar Monk seriously needs to address this level of negligence. Safety and accountability should never be optional.
