Ray's Crab Shack Newark Reviews
Came here on a Tuesday night, didn’t wait at all, got a table right away. Super friendly team. He didn’t look that bubbly at the very beginning, but he was taking the order, he was so friendly and patient. Ordered 1 pound of shrimp pepper lime flavored, and 2 pound of crab leg. Everything is so Tasty and delicious. We added sweet potatoes and two corns into one of the flavor that I don’t really know which one it is but it is so delicious. Highly recommend
We stopped by Ray's Crab Shack last Friday for a casual family dinner. The place isn't fancy, but it's clean, well-lit, and surprisingly kid-friendly for a seafood spot. The portions are generous - easily enough to share. Everything came out hot, seasoned well, and not overly salty, which I appreciate. Prices are fair for what you get, and parking's easy even on a weekend. Not somewhere we'd go every week, but for a relaxed, messy, seafood-with-the-family kind of night, it's a solid choice. We'll be back when the craving hits.
I travel for work but this time I was on a limited budget. I spent about $46 with tip. I felt awkward to sit there alone so I took my sandwich, chowder w/ bread bowl To Go. You guys should really have bar where people can come there and eat. You had a couple places but under utilized! Anyways, the food was good still and the waitress was accommodating and got my food quickly. There were groups everywhere. I sell massage chairs at Costco and I had a great show at the Newark store so I’ll be back with deeper pockets and I hope there will be a good bar / area for 1/2 people to dine at.
Nice place for casual seafood. Comfortable bench tables and a full bar. My lobster roll was pretty packed with chunks and was good. My companion’s shrimp salad had large tasty prawns. The only ding was that the server disappeared for a while so drink refills were slow, but it was off hours and I assume lightly staffed for that. Available parking in the lot. Wheelchair accessible.
I loved the experience here .!The decoration is simply spectacula from the entrance, I felt transported to the coast. The blue and white colors, combined with nautical elements, create a fresh and welcoming atmosphere. But what really shines is the food. The seafood dishes are an explosion of flavors and textures. The staff's attention was also exceptional, always willing to recommend and explain the dishes. I can't wait to come back and try more of their delights. Highly recommended! *Highlights:* - Impressive decoration - Delicious and fresh food - Excellent service
Ray's Crab Shack is a good place to go if you enjoy seafood boils. The taste of everything is very fresh and the price is reasonable. Service was exceptional and helpful for our big party that needed lots of extra utensils, bibs, lemons, etc. Honestly, the sauce is not my absolute favorite I have had at seafood restaurants but it still is tasty and the overall experience was great with much better service and sides than other restaurants. I will come back if I'm in the area again!
Lobster Bisque central. Always scorching hot, the bread bowl is warmed to the perfect temperature to enjoy through the entire eat. The combo basket was perfectly crisp and tasty. The super warm food was paired perfectly with their draft select beers. It was an excellent dinner for me and my babe.
One of the most flavorful Cajun shrimp in a bag. And having the option of head on shrimp deserves another star! The juicy fresh shrimp order came in double bagged. Their garlic bread were soft in the middle, crunchy crust and tasty, obvious garlic chunks, precious 4pcs in the order. Garlic noodles were packed so full and bagged. We had a few boxes in our order and appreciate that each box thoughtfully had the order label on it so we know which is which, thank you! Wasn't our first time getting the shrimp in a bag and wouldn't be our last either.
Fun seafood experience!!! 💚 I visited Ray's crab shack with my family and was woooooorth it!! Food - 5/5 Portion, flavor, and variety!! I loved their Cajun seafood - crabs and shrimps. Huge shrimps and full crabs are there. Service - 5/5 Good staff and crew. They're attentive to our needs and food is served as per our expectation. Atmosphere - 4/5 The restaurant is a bit old already. Clean place, but old vibe.
Fantastic Cajun seafood place, been coming here now and then for over 8 years. Tastes fantastic, fresh seafood, great value, never had a problem with the service nor the food. Very nice to see their price not inflated too much, you can still get the combo or shrimp bag for around $20-40, which can usually feed 2-3. Recommend Cajun garlic sauce, sides such as clam chowder, which is better than Boudin's, sweet potato fries, extra sausage & garlic noodles. Everything is on the salty side tho. Totally, 100%, absolutely recommend.
We signed in and got seated very quickly. The waitress was very kind and all staff is available to answer any questions. Superb customer service! And when we ordered our food, it came out so quickly! I enjoyed the atmosphere and it was great to have some one on one with my partner, but also seems like a great place to have a get together! Very intimate and cozy!
delicious!!! this was my first time at any sort of crab-shack-feed style restaurant, and i'd say it was a good choice. my only complaint was that the shrimp was not peeled, which was inconvenient. not sure if that's a ray's thing or an everywhere thing, though. service was great, helped me pack up leftovers, and it made for a delicious dinner the next day too!
Make sure you order the "Ray's combination bag", their mussels and clams are so big and juicy, the corns, and the shrimps, everything is on point. Their Cajun sauce 😋, with extra garlic, yummy!!! What's more interesting is the water tanks with live lobster, you get a photo on the wall if you order one 👍
Shrimp w/o head 4 medium size Crawfish 3 too small Garlic noodles 3 flavorful Lobster Bisque 3 too salty, not enough lobster Crab Bisque 3 salty, flavorful Fried Oyster 4 juicy Corn 3 slightly sweet Potato 3 soft, red skin
They unethically add in a 15% tip charge to your final bill BEFORE you can pay for your bill…then ask AGAIN for extra tips after charging. At that point, the initial 15% had already been charged. The tip listed on the initial receipt is in fine print (easily mistaken for sales tax) also so it isn’t really noticeable until you really glance at your receipt before paying which you should do if you ever come here though I strongly don’t recommend this one and recommend other Cajun boil places. Also, they have shrimp head-on and head-off options, however… they don’t have a “deveined” option which greatly disappointed me coming from my past experiences at other Cajun boil restaurants in the Bay Area. Pro: their ultimate power seasoning tasted pretty good but that’s about the only pro I have.
Okay so the service is always 50/50 I’ve been going here for years i love the shrimp and the clam chowder but the fries are off sometimes. The service fee they charge now is crazy before we could come here and eat for maybe 2-6 people but now it’s just expensive with a bit more lower quality. The last time I went there was flies and ants on the table around 12pm so clearly not a lot of cleanliness.
Ordered one of their big shrimp boil bags and found out that every shrimp had a ton of dirt in them and had to spend a ton of time cleaning them myself. Definitely don't get shrimp from these guys since they use super low quality shrimp and try to cover it with tons of butter and spices. You'll be better off buying a bag of shrimp and boiling it yourself.
