Outpost Cafe Oak Hills Reviews
Had some of the fluffiest pancakes! Delicious! Also had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. Fantastic! Also try the home made applesauce!
Excellent as always. We haven't been in for atleast 4 years. Our jobs bring us to the area from North Carolina. The cuts of beef are great. Prime rib on Saturdays and Sundays are fantastic. Large cuts. And the blue cheese dressing is great. Great service, reasonable prices, clean facilities, nostalgic surroundings....just great all around.
Excellent service, food and value! The employees are so friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious and the servings are more than enough! Aside from the coffee, everything was delicious 😋 I was able to switch my coffee to their hot chocolate and that was perfect! I will definitely come here again and share my wonderful experience with everyone in this area and visitors!
Really good! I knew this morning when they were packed with locals it would be good. I skipped ot for breakfast but came back for lunch/dinner. Really good burger and potato salad. Friendly waitress kept apologizing for the wait. (In my opinion there wasn't much of a wait, 3-4 minutes before she got my order) Burger was so big I almost couldn't get my mouth around it potato salad and 1 beer was 16 bucks super fair for the quality!! I will definitely be back next time I'm by here! Came back again I wish I could give them more stars after realizing they have whiskey! Now if they could add some good whiskey....
Great place to eat!! Great service, great food. I ordered the 1lb porterhouse steak with fries and split pea and ham soup. We also had the hangman burger with sweet potato frues. Both fries were delicious, the burger was great, sweet tea was yummy. Highly recommended. No dessert on the menu, but make sure to check out the dessert cabinet for delicious choices.
Every Truck Driver needs to come in here and get some outstanding homestyle food!! Well worth your time. FYI. The person that owns the property has blocked off 1/2 of the lot. You need to go past the Outpost to the back of pilot for parking.
This place is a must stop whenever I come through Victorville, CA. The ambiance is welcoming, the service is exceptional and the food is a-maz-ing! There is truck parking as well with Pilot being right next door!
Good food, amazing service and an affordable menu. If I could give more stars I would. As a truck driver it’s hard to find food spots that aren’t fast food or gas station food. Whenever I’m headed from Los Angeles to Nevada/Utah I’ll stop here for lunch or get dinner if I’m stopping for the day. I’ve driven out of my way, not just for the food but because it tastes and feels like a home cooked meal. It has that warmth and inviting atmosphere to it that makes you feel at home. Being away from home for so long makes you crave that feeling and this place hands down it the best place to eat at, especially if you want affordable, delicious and warm food in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere where you’re met with kind folks and excellent service. I’d even argue it’s the best food spot in Los Angeles and it’s not even in LA. Definitely worth the drive everytime. (Note that the pilot next door is decent at best, they closed off the overflow parking lot to push their reserved parking $20 for 12 hours. I only stop here to go to the outpost cafe now and it’s worth it everytime) if you haven’t tried this place yet it’s well worth it!
Good food Customer service is outstanding A beautiful girl Melanie 👧 is of the life time great serve 💖 thank you Melanie for your kind and wonderful service
The Outpost Cafe is a historical landmark in the High Desert. It's a great place to visit and have one of their delicious menu options. Everything that I have tried has left me craving for another visit. The prime rib I had on Father's Day morning was an absolutely perfect medium/rare cut. The pastrami my son ordered was seasoned, cooked and cut just right, complimented by pickles and mustard, and crisp fries on the side. Silky gravy on top of a fresh buttermilk biscuit. A wonderful Father's Day morning in a great place with great service. What more could you ask for.
This place is amazing...truly a dying breed when it come to an old school diner!!! Ive eaten here many times and tried something different every time and I cant find anything i didnt like.....Ive had french toast all over the country and this place makes the best!
Please let me tell you about this place, first of all nice place looks clean and organized, then the prices are very fear and affordable. Now the food is delicious, I ordered "baby back ribs" and it was one of the best ribs I ever had. I got it to go and still good. Nice staff I highly recommend it. Buen provecho!!!
Ate here 3 times over a period of 2 days. As a truck driver the location cant be better as I can just walk across the parking lot and eat some quality food that isn’t McDonalds, subway, or Wendy’s. This place is a god send… praise the almighty!!!
When you think of truck stop food, you think of a greasy spoon! This place is anything but! The food is wonderfully delicious and cooked to perfection! The black and bleu burger I had was cooked to perfection, and the house made Bleu Cheese was incredible! The fries were perfectly crisp & the onion rings were nice and crispy and not dripping with grease!! All of the salad dressings are homemade and Super delicious! This place has a great atmosphere and good service with an incredible price!! What a hidden gem!!!!! I will definitely be stopping here again!☆☆☆☆☆
It's a nice cowboy theme cafe. Good selection of meals and the breakfast we had was delicious. Our waitress was excellent as well as the other staff. Prices are moderate for California. Came back through and had dinner. Rayanne waited on us and was a very pleasant. Had the chiliburger.
OMG my BF brought me here for my first time this morning and I loved it. He used to live in the area before we started dating and was a usual customer. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Belgian waffle with eggs and sausage. He had the ABC omlett. The service was great and you also seat yourself to any comfortable booth or the bar area. The waitress was very nice and frequently refilled my BF's coffee. This restaurant had excellent customer service and it's hard to find service like that anywhere now a days. The had very humorous signs inside which I haven't seen at any restaurant before. :)
First time been here the lady taking my order was great friendly and service was 100% perfect coffee was good I end up getting the macho burrito delicious
When you go eat here it’s a self serve. So you seat yourself. I didn’t know so we were just standing around for 10mins waiting to be seated until we saw a sign that said to find a seat. Once did, we were helped by a waiter right away. The food was good and so is there carrot cake! Love the food options they have. Definitely recommend going here to get some food in your belly!
First off my apologies...I had eaten some of the food up so fast....lol. The rice pilaf (as picture) was delicious. Also the Foster Farmer's Turkey Burger 🍔 was so good (not picture because I had ate it up so fast). The German cake was okay but the large brownie (not picture) was great tasting. This resturant is about 40 years old. What came first was the gas station. There are picture of the owners on the wall by the bathroom area. The server had said, "That the owners are some of the nicest to work for." They have a cute patio cover by vines to cool down the area. I will be back next time for a sit down! Update::::08/30/20 - I did take-out and the 8 oz grilled salmon with two sides which was a cup of fruits and rice pilaf! (Picture added) Update::::08/31/20 - I did a breakfast order of 'Build Your Own Omelette w/ sides Home fries & Chunky Apple sauce. The Outpost Homemade salsa and Outpost famous homemade Bleu Cheese was a delight.
Basically a burger place menu. I got the Philly cheese sandwich and it was good. Needed some dipping sauce though. Also got hot tea. Very warm and relaxing during this cold season. Also got a t shirt. The bathrooms where clean and the waitress was very polite and fast moving. Love that the pilot truck stop parking lot is huge and easy to access the cafe. If you read this review do me a favor and give me a follow here on google. 🙏thanks.
Great food, great atmosphere, and service was fast. Try the House Chips and Salsa, then wash it down with a fresh orange juice mimosa!
This place is absolutely amazing!!! Great customer service especially Laurie!! Food is great and large portions.. I love a place where they are not greedy with the creamer for my coffee!!They have Rib eye too!!! Nice bar and good music too!!! Nice place for truck drivers to wind down!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Quintessential western flair diner complete with home-baked pies and lots of character. Traveling through area and we stopped in for breakfast. Full breakfast menu with many great choices. We enjoyed delicious vegetable omelets with perfectly crisp but not greasy hash browns, fresh fruit, and biscuits and gravy. Highly recommend.
Great spot to grab breakfast. Lots of seating and lots of parking, located in a truck stop. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Big menu, reasonable prices, big portions. Kind of an older place, not much ambience, but everything was clean and comfortable. I will definitely be back, I really enjoyed my breakfast burrito.
I ordered the porterhouse because I had a bone in it for my dog. The most delicious steak I've had in a long time and so incredibly reasonably priced. Similar steaks at restaurants in California are $35 and more. Plus you get two sides. I got this phone so it can have a bone for my doggy. This place is a gem. I haven't been here in about 15 years and it did not disappoint. Usually when you go to places years later it's not as good as it used to be, I would say this is even better than it was before! Keep up the good work folks. Thank you for hanging in there through the pandemic and I'm glad that your restaurant survived. You are a Dying Breed especially around any truck stops they've all resorted to just nothing but fast food. So happy that you're still here and I will be patronizing this place again! Plus they have cocktails!
I been a truck driver for 9 years always passed by I live near it now finally got to try it out. I must say I been missing out on such good food. I loved my meal my wife did too, the service was great and love the location and decorations. Will definitely go back
Very friendly waitresses. I got my drink immediately once I sat down(at the counter). The food arrived in a very timely manner, my side salad had an ample amount of dressing, and my steak was cooked absolutely perfect! I don't know when I'll be back as I don't get out here very often, but I will come back to the Outpost Cafe as soon as I can!!!
Unfortunately, I'm not in the neighborhood very often but whenever I'm on a trip using I 15 or 395 this is my go-to breakfast joint. Simply the best quality food, prepared with care and served with enthusiasm and a smile. I'm driving through in late March and have already looked at the menu and planning my breakfast?! It's that good!
Come to this place EVERYTIME I pass though, LOVELY ladies work here and the food is ALWAYS A+++. I usually get the Top sirloin breakfast with home fries and fresh fruit. Very CONSISTENTLY GREAT TASTING! Like… probably stopped in over 30 times over the past couple years. … can never leave with out the apple pie and ice cream. Shout out to Lorrie and all the other wonderful ladies here! Support our small businesses! ❤️
Very clean very quiet very manorable wait staff took care of us very well and the food was excellent I got a pastrami sandwich which was outstanding my wife got an awesome burger that had fried onions on it and it was spectacular not to mention the cheesecake that we got was such a surprise it was absolutely delicious they definitely knocked it out of park from the outside doesn't look like much but when you get inside it's a completely different ball of wax we had actually a great time the people that frequented the place were a bunch of great people!!
My daughter, granddaughter and I went for dinner yesterday 1/30/26. We sat at the counter. We had a wonderful waitress she was on point with everything. I got the pastrami sandwich my daughter got the chili burger and my granddaughter got the kids pizza. Everything was amazing and delicious. I will say the french fries were good but their chips that are homemade were amazing. Just want to say thank you all at the outpost for a wonderful evening and our waitress was amazing. She was a blonde sorry I don’t remember her name.
Happened upon this place after our original plans for dinner fell through. I grew up in New Jersey and diner culture was a big part of my life. Everywhere I have been has always left me missing the food I grew up with, whether it was diner classics missing from the menu or just an overall quality issue. I’m happy to say for the first time in 30 years I have found a place that has lived up to my hopes for a diner. The staff were friendly and attentive. The decor and general vibes of the place were perfect. Everyone that was there seemed to be happy and having fun. When you walk into a dinner this is exactly what you want it to look like. And to top it off the food was exactly what I was looking for. My wife got the California chicken sandwich, the bread was crispy and the chicken was very moist. The fries were also excellent. I got the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes. While the turkey itself was slightly dry it was offset by some of the best gravy I have ever had. You could really taste the potato in the mashed potatoes, just like you would make at home. This wasn’t the place we were planning to go out to dinner but I can guarantee it will be from now on. I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s the only type of food I haven’t been able to find in California and I am so happy I found it here.
I managed to stop here before heading down the Cajon Pass, and boy, was I glad! Some truckers were raving about this little gem, and they were not exaggerating. This is the best truck stop restaurant that I've been to West of the Mississippi. I ordered the ribeye, and it was cooked to perfection. I've paid far more for far worse and will now make the Outpost a must-stop destination.
The food at this restaurant is simply delicious. Before going, I had heard comments about similar places where they only treat frequent customers well, so I went in with certain expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the service here is excellent for everyone, even on my first visit. Aside from the outstanding service, the portions are quite generous, so keep in mind that one dish can easily be enough for two people. Definitely great value for the price! Overall, the atmosphere, service, prices, and of course, the food are top-notch. 100% recommended. I’ll definitely be back!
This is a great place for breakfast, especially on the weekends. They have prime rib and eggs, steak and eggs. It was actually extremely good. It's a little busy. It's a big truck. Stop lot of truckers there coming in grabbing their breakfast and lunch. There was a wait if you want a table but here's a hint. There's no weight if you take counter seeding. We had the traveler special that includes your choice of either pancakes or french toast along with eggs and any protein. We also tried their Eggs Benedict and portions are outstanding. The food is really really good.
he Outpost Cafe, located at 8685 US Highway 395 in Oak Hills, California, is a cherished dining spot for both locals and travelers. Known for its classic American comfort food, the cafe offers a variety of dishes that cater to diverse palates. Among its standout offerings are the Repeater and Hangman burgers, both of which have garnered high praise from patrons. The Repeater Burger is a testament to the cafe’s commitment to quality. Crafted from a blend of brisket and short rib, this burger remains exceptionally juicy, even when cooked to medium well. One satisfied customer noted, “Had the Repeater burger, supposedly a brisket/short rib grind. I believe it because even at a medium to medium well cook, it was really juicy.” This combination of premium meats results in a rich, flavorful patty that stands out among typical burger offerings. Equally impressive is the Hangman Burger. While specific details about its ingredients are limited, customer feedback speaks volumes. Such testimonials underscore the burger’s exceptional taste and the lasting impression it leaves on diners. Beyond its delectable menu, the Outpost Cafe is celebrated for its warm, old-school ambiance and attentive service. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, the cafe offers a memorable dining experience that combines hearty meals with a welcoming atmosphere.
We were heading home after our camping trip at Silverwood Lake campground and found this place. We decided to go here after reading a couple reviews and I was not disappointed at all! As busy as it was, the service was good and the food was good as well. The menu is very extensive (I should have taken pictures of it) with all kinds of choices. Reasonable prices for the amount of food. I ate a pastrami sandwich and wow, perhaps it's the best pastrami sandwich I've had in a long time. Taste was good, the bread which I chose a french roll vs the other bread option which was sourdough, it was delicious. For the side I opted for french fries. They were crispy and paired well with a side of ranch to dip them in. I would totally recommend this place to stop by and have good food. The restaurant had a delightful ambiance as well. The decoration was rustic and funny signs throughout the restaurant. The restrooms were clean, which is a very good positive.
Cozy little place in front of the Pilot truck stop. Be careful the truckers who fly in and out of the parking lot! Lana was my server and she was awesome. It was a little busy but I am a patient diner. The meal was hot, amazing portion, very flavorful, and the price wasn’t bad! I’ll definitely be stopping again when my travels take me through Hesperia!
I got the divorced eggs... they were so freaking good guys! OH EM GE the green and the red salsa were both seasoned perfectly and all the staff were so nice! Even when someone walked out on their bill, everyone came together to cheer the hostess up. As a trucker thank you for the wonderfully experience!!
Without a doubt, the best burger I've had in the Victor Valley!! Amazing house made pies to finish up with, too. Everything here is great, with care and detail given to each dish! From fresh whipped butter on the pancakes, to thick melted cheddar on a burger. It's more than just a roadtrip diner! The people and atmosphere are great! Wonderful, cozy, and welcoming. It's a warm, wooden old style diner, the kind that leaves you feeling like you're resting in a cabin. All around an amazing restaurant. Amazing food, great service.
Great food friendly stuff good portions good price will be back. Highly recommend. Will be back.

I wasnt completely satisfied, and my problem is I’ve been on a diet and this is the first restaurant I’ve eaten at in 2022 and so I wanted it to be an excellent meal so I had my expectations set pretty high based on the reviews. I’m just telling about my experience… My To go order chili was “cold” not ice cold but not even medium-hot either. They replaced it with some hot potato soup free of charge. But it’s not ideal to sit down for a meal and realize you got to go back to the restaurant and take something back inside and exchange it, and then the burger wasn’t right either when I got back to it. The burger was tasty but had some charred beef and charred bacon. I wanted mustard and got a 1000 island sauce. I didn’t want to go back again and say “my burger isn’t made right.” I just didn’t get what I asked for, it cost $15.07 plus $3.00 tip. 🤳 🍔 🍜 I gave it 4 stars because I think it could be 5 stars if they just would try to make a Togo like I asked.
Good ol’ folks diner. Finally, my husband convinced me to stop in and this diner reminds you of the good ol’ days... good food, good service & good prices. Portions are decent size. All COVID-19 regulations in place. Biscuits were right out of the oven; soft & hot. Huevos rancheros were alright not the authentic mexican plate but overall good flavor for a country diner.
Typically Outpost is one of my top burger & breakfast places in the IE. Portions are great, no skimping and everything is always hot, fresh and relatively homemade. It is a truckera paradise so the atmosphere isnt flamboyant or anything but clean, with tvs and good country music. Every now and again though the servers can be testy, sarcastic and a bit pushy. When its poppin' with people i get it. When theres a few customers and plenty of help they need to relax and tone it down. It is annoying when you ask simple questions and they pop off like youre an idiot for asking. All in all the food is great and filling.
Nice stop to start off my trip to Death Valley. I like that it indulges in it's connections to Route 66 and it's history. This is really what made this a fun stop. Also, the meal was incredibly well priced and good food! My server was new, so I'll give her a break. Great deal for the $! If you must be out this way and you're hungry... this is a memorable stop.
Interesting place. The food could have been better. The hash browns were burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside. The chicken fried steak was good. The value was good with reasonable prices. I think I’ll come back to try some other things in the menu. I think there could be a hidden gem and perhaps we hit a bad day. We enjoyed the stop and will be back. If my next trip is better I’ll revise this post. Until then it is what it is.
This restaurant is next to the Pilot Travel center in the area. Place was a bit busy when we stopped in earlier today. One side of the restaurant is booths and the other side is solo seats against the bar and food prep area. There is also a small table section where the restrooms are. Western style decor. Cute little place. Covered, enclosed patio with some tables as well. Food wasn't to bad, although I just got the grilled chicken salad. My partner ordered liver and onions with vegetables and he said his meal was delicious. They have a little store section next to the register where they sell shirts and sweatshirts. Didn't really notice on the menu but they did have liquor bottles on a shelf so I would assume they also sell drinks. Overall good experience. Would recommend for a good eat.
As a fat trucker I'm always looking for a good burger and they did not disappoint! I had the Bleu cheese burger and fries which were also very good. Definitely recommend eating here if you have the opportunity!
I love coming here for breakfast on the weekend, as they have great food & service. The portions are generous and the sides are fantastic. I enjoy the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, the outpost chicken club, Big Mikes pastrami, and my kid loves the French toast. I also like coming in for their daily specials. The pie is good too! Definitely a must. Additionally, this building has some history in the high desert and has been consistent for decades. The vibes are positive and welcoming Thank you Outpost Cafe!

The hash browns did not taste like real potatoes. Disappointing, charging $12.99 for a two egg breakfast should have real fresh potatoes.
The staff was friendly and the place was clean and nice. I ordered a sweet tea but it tasted like it had been out awhile and wasnt very sweet, but i just got something different. As for my food, the potato wasnt very warm and it was kind of plain as far as loaded since cheese didnt melt at all and the bacon was was to hard, i ate it since i had been craving one for awhile and hard to get good food on the road. The burger is were i had problems. I ordered it medium rare and it ended up being well/done and also didnt have much flavor, so my pups got that. My husband also got a burger and said his was also bland and dry. Maybe we hit a bad time. We dont come to cali much so we probably wont be back. But besides the food its a welcoming place. For our meal it was 53$. Burger and fries, burger and "loaded potato" 2 beers, tea and 7 wings.
I've had really great meals here, and then there been times I've ordered the exact same thing and it comes out not as fresh or good When it's good, it's great
My food was good my girls food was cold.. She didn't want to bother the waitress but I checked it and it was definitely served cold. Mine was nice and hot..
I truly love this place but I love helping mom doing deliveries for food also. When I came inside I asked the waitress that I have an order she was really nice but the old lady’s that the waitress was serving they were extremely rude laughing at my face that I’m young to be doing deliveries but didn’t care at first but kept doing it and the waitress didn’t tell them anything until I told my mother to come with me because those old ladies wouldn’t stop laughing at my face. By me explaining this I’m only asking if the waitress can at least say something of people are being rude.
I ordered the macho hombre burrito, I asked how big the burrito it was. They said it was big and a decent size. It was not. The taste was good not great or bad just good. But for the price not that good
Breakfast was great! But the chorizo… yea. don’t order it. It’s SO much MONEY😅. And plus, it was pretty buns. 4/10 restaurant

I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon and a side of hashbrowns . I sent back right away because bacon was burned. I saw that one side of my eggs were burned when my sandwich came back. My bacon came back par cooked. I did not eat it. I turned my breakfast sandwich into a grilled cheese. The hasbrowns tasted old, and rubbery.
I've been coming around here for years. This place is going downhill. They Cut off the parking lot so truckers can't get in. What's that saying?? You order toast with breakfast you get one piece. I don't get it. Prices outrageous and they're getting skimpy with the food. No parking for the big rigs so I won't be here anymore. Been nice knowing you Outpost.
Ok, I have eaten here MANY TIMES, my favorite hostess is the short,(I think she's latina) friendly and talkative gal. Until today, I've never had a thing to complain about. As a matter of fact, I didn't complain about my issue today. I had breakfast with a fellow professional driver this morning. He ordered a big breakfast while I ordered a breakfast sandwich. I found a hair in my food. Mind you... I'm a Marine, and I've eaten some pretty weird things over the years. That's the ONLY reason why I didn't make a fuss. Just be more careful guys. If you promise to do that. I promise to take this review down. Okay, so I went back this evening. This is the absolute LAST time I'll go. I ordered the top sirloin, medium rare (it's not) along with two sides. I got a half a side of Mac and cheese . And the mashed potatoes looked old. I regret leaving the waitress a nice tip. Definitely WON'T be back. There's plenty of other places to get good food from around here in Hesperia.🤬 And, I always get the feeling that they don't like people of color in here.
I wish I could give zero stars for the horrible experience I just went through minutes ago. I hate to do this because this WAS one of my FAVORITE restaurants, but unfortunately today that changed. I arrived at this place today on November 22, 2025 Saturday at approximately 11:20 am to try to place a to go order. I asked one of the waitresses if I needed to sign in to place a to go order and I was told no. So I’m waiting I’m waiting nicely and patiently because it was busy so I understood the situation. About 20ish minutes or so, I still haven’t been acknowledged. Only the people who were eating in were being acknowledged. So I asked a different waitress again 10 minutes later who do I need to talk to so I can place my to go order? She stated she would but in a moment because she was delivering drinks to a table. Then she comes back and asked what will I be having. Mind you folks, I wasn’t even given a menu which is the first mistake in customer service ( I’ve worked in customer service and food service). She also stated that if knew what I was going to have? I told her I wasn’t even given a menu to look what I was going to have not to mentioned I was kinda in a hurry because I’m a truck driver. So I grabbed a menu and the waitress had the nerve to tell everyone waiting for a table now we all have to wait because I didn’t know what I was going to have (second mistake in her part). I haven’t stopped at this place in about 3 years and a half and I know things change. So I kept my cool and responded politely, oh I see well then nevermind I don’t want anything then if it’s going to be like that which was pretty in my perspective very disrespectful and I felt put on blast (third mistake a waitress has done). All I wanted was a great to go meal because their food is great. So I have no other option but to just put the menu down, for me to politely just say nevermind no thank you and I just walked off. Now 40 minutes have been wasted of my time not to mention the 3 mistakes I’ve experienced by the waitress. That experience alone is what got me to just say, I’m never coming back and it sucks that I went through that because again, it’s one of my favorite restaurants. No food, 3 strikes (mistakes), my time was wasted and the nerve to put me on blast and advise the people waiting for a table that now I was holding them up. Not cool. So folks, Proceed with caution if you want to come eat here. Unfortunately I’m not coming back. By this horrible experience, it seemed like these people don’t give a crap about anyone. I don’t recommend anyone coming here but choice is yours.
