Ramos Mexican Restaurant Oakland Reviews
What a meal! I've heard so many great things about Bombera. On a whim and with no reservation, we stopped by to see if we could grab a seat, and I'm so glad we did. The vibes were amazing; the music was just loud enough to be festive but quiet enough to still talk. There is plenty of seating options, from the covered patio to the bar and dining room. I ordered only a few things because I wasn't too hungry, but everything was amazing! My favorite dishes were surprisingly the vegetarian ones—I loved the spicy carrots. The staff was incredibly generous and actually gifted us the beets and the mint tea. The beets were delicious, and the tea was the perfect pairing for the chocolate dessert. The duck was also a highlight. Service was amazing and the staff could not be any nicer. I cannot wait to return. Highly recommend
Bombera, hear me out, brunch once a month on Saturday and Sunday? Or just Saturday? Or just Sunday? I was THRILLED to see that the New Year's Day brunch was back this year after a hiatus and I made a resy for two immediately. I was in Hawai'i for two weeks reconnecting with my family so this was my Christmas gift to myself. I love everything about Bombera but I specifically love not having to eat it for dinner. Do not miss *chips guac/salsa, the salad, carrot dish, and chicken entree. But you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!
First let me preface that this restaurant is located just a few blocks from the house I grew up in. So I was surprised when I planned to have dinner in this area. I was thrilled to find this restaurant not just surviving, but absolutely thriving. Despite the pouring rain, finding parking was easy, and the sight of the packed house—a true testament to its success—instantly built excitement. The great vibe was palpable, though I should note right away that the music was quite loud inside, making conversation a bit of a challenge. You may want to ask for a table outside. The menu immediately grabbed my attention with the promise of Duck Carnitas, but I ultimately settled on the Pork Carnitas and the Roasted Chicken Mojo De Ajo. We ordered a classic House Margarita and a Paloma for drinks. While both drinks were enjoyable, the serving size felt a little small considering the price point. The food, however, quickly won us over. The Pork Carnitas were absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor, and surprisingly generous in portion size—a welcome sight. My one small wish was for more of the side pickled, spicy carrots and jalapeños. The Roasted Chicken Mojo De Ajo was equally impressive, served as a beautifully flavored half chicken on the bone. What truly stole the show and is, without question, a must-have dish was the Spicy Carrots Toasted Almond Misantla. This side was amazing, delicious, and an absolute standout. The spice was about a 3 or 4 but it did not linger. Just order it. Overall, despite the slightly high cost and the volume of the music inside, the quality and flavor of the food made for a truly memorable dinner. If you find yourself in the Diamond District and are looking for a fantastic meal, stop here. I'll bring others here to experience the food and vibe.
This place is exceptional! Have the smoked trout and the duck mole. I will be back often and cannot wait to try everything on the menu. Just unbelievably good.
5 stars across the board! This place is fantastic!!! We came here the other night for my dad’s birthday and we were so pleasantly surprised. The service was wonderful and the food was incredible. I got the duck mole as pictured and it was out of this world! Definitely recommend :)
Chef Dominica Rice-Cisneros once again proves her culinary brilliance at Bombera, an evolution of the warmth and soul she brought to her beloved Cosecha. While Bombera feels more polished—an elevated expression of her vision—the food remains deeply rooted in authenticity and spirit. Her mole stands apart, a masterwork of balance and depth that defies comparison. It’s not merely a sauce but a statement—layered, aromatic, and transformative—redefining what Mexican cuisine can be in the California context. Among the many dishes that showcase Rice-Cisneros’s craft, her seasonal salad is a quiet revelation. Each bite feels composed and intentional, a play of textures and flavors that shifts with the market and seasonal Bay Area availability yet always delivers nuance and vitality. Housed in a refurbished fire station, Bombera is both architectural gem and culinary temple. The space manages to be strikingly elegant yet grounded—a perfect reflection of the cuisine itself. Even without its well-earned Michelin star, Bombera stands as one of Oakland’s most essential dining experiences.
Great place, wonderful atmosphere, great staff. Came in for a friends 60th birthday. Tasty cocktails, crisp beer, excellent starters, and the mains and desert were fantastic. Only ding is that the space is a little loud. So it's hard to hear the people in a party of six. But overall great fun place with delicious food.
We walked in on a busy evening and expected a bit of a wait, but to our surprise, we were seated at our table/bar in no time, super efficient and well-managed. The drinks were top-notch. The food menu was a bit on the limited side, I would’ve liked to see a few more options, maybe a couple more small plates or entrees, but what they do offer, they absolutely nail. Every dish we ordered was bursting with flavor and clearly made with quality ingredients. The atmosphere was fun and energetic, perfect for a night out with friends or a casual date. The music, lighting, and overall vibe struck a great balance between lively and dynamic! What really stood out, though, was the service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there, which made the whole experience even better. All in all, a fantastic spot that delivers where it counts. We’ll definitely be back, and I’m already looking forward to trying a few more items from the menu (hopefully with some new additions next time!).
We grabbed a reservation right at five when they open. We were seated next to the open kitchen. Chef welcomed us from her station and I saw her call out greetings to others as they were seated. The patio is also lovely but I enjoyed being close to the action. That’s how I got a shot of the cardamom cake cooling. The vibe was informal, friendly, and joyful. The service and food were excellente!

Mexican food elevated to the next level. We recommend the trout tostada and fermented soda. The flavors in the trout tostada all worked nicely together and were balanced, I felt transformed; all the ingredients need to be eaten altogether to experience this feeling. The fermented soda made me feel like a kid but in a healthier drink.
We ordered the salsa and guacamole, the duck carnitas, the potato taquitos, the Yam quesadillas and the cardamom cake. Our total was $123. The food was delicious with the duck and potato taquitos stealing the show! The flavors are amazing and I enjoyed this meal so so much.
Amazing food! Tried as much as we could from the menu and so glad we did. Flavors were on point with every dish and we’ll definitely be back. Service was great too, loved the entire experience.
Came for dinner on a Friday night and sat at the bar Service was very good and the food was outstanding We had the carrots and pozole for starters.. both had exceptional flavor The balance of flavor the sauce, beans and carrots was a little off.. could have used a bit more carrots and crunch (texture). I had the butternut squash mole which was very good and my partner had the tamales which he loved. Nice atmosphere but can get a bit tight with space. Overall one of my favorite dining experiences in Oakland
We had to make a reservationalmost two weeks in advance, but absolutely worth it. The food was beyond delicious. We got the spicy carrots, the beets, the veggie tamales, and the sword fish. Each dish was epic! Oh and we finished with the chocolate dessert. Highly recommended, one of the best culinary experiences I've had in the Bay ❤️

Really enjoyed my dinner here. Thought the beets were super special. Wasn't crazy over the red mole, the chicken was really good and the squash was super sweet and the sauce didn't really have much spice or flavor to a company it's surroundings. I would get something else if I came again. Fish tacos looked crazy good kind of difficult to eat though but that's part of the fun. Love the vibe, everyone inside seemed vibrant and happy the lighting is really good it's like bright but not an eyesore whatsoever it's almost cozy, just felt really comfortable. Really liked the staff they seemed happy to be there.
Had a fantastic time celebrating our friend's 50th wedding anniversary tonight! Service was warm, caring and attentive. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but the watermelon salad and whole roast chicken were the clear winners! Margaritas go down way too easy, but are pricey at $15/drink. Chocolate chip & oatmeal cookie was tasty but they charge $9 for a single cookie!!! Our tab after tax and tip was $320+ for 5 margaritas, 1 mocktail, watermelon salad, roasted carrots, duck leg, filet mignon, whole roast chicken, 1 cookie and 1 coffee. It's too pricey for a regular meal, but worth the occasional splurge for sure!
The food was good but a little overpriced. We had the pork carnitas they were well done cooked, the fish tacos were humongous and we add an extra one for $6 , they were ok. The chips salsa and guacamole were very tasty and delicious (highly recommended), for cocktails we had the Tepache con Tiki and a Vampiro, we were not impressed, I think they still need to work on their cocktails. We also had the Pot De Creme for dessert and it was very tasty We will definitely go back to try a couple of dishes and other drinks
The food was authentic Mexican - I know because I’m from there. The prices are a bit high for my liking because the majority of the plates consist of rice and beans. The cocktails stood out as eclectic and bold. The mezcal has a very strong and smokey taste that cleanses the pallet and just makes you feel warm all over. The only reason it doesn’t get a 5-star is that we were placed in the small room in the back past the restrooms. I believe that place is mainly used for private parties but it was a Saturday night and super busy so they were seating some reservations back there. We felt a little excluded from the vibes of the restaurant and the service was a little lacking since we were separate from the kitchen and staff. The wobbly plastic tables were also a turn-off since they were charging $35 for one plate. In recap the food was good, the drinks were excellent, and the restaurant was beautiful but a shame we missed out on the atmosphere. Will probably go back only for a special occasion.

If you’re here for the first time, I would recommend: - Smoked Trout tostadas: great appetizer! Beautifully balanced. - Spicy Carrots Misantla: this is a vegan dish but it’s so flavorful and memorable. I want them to release a cookbook so I can recreate it. - Smoked Duck Confit: rich and delicious. I would skip the potato flautas (unremarkable). The pollo rostizado is a generous serving; it can easily serve 4 people. But the taste of the marinade is just average, and the salsa verde is dialed down for the Piedmont and Allendale gringos. It’s a cute place for date night. The first time I came here, the music was way too loud. They turned it down the last time. Service during my last visit could be improved. They’re VERY pushy on the chips and salsa; we were asked 5 times if we wanted them( which are not complimentary! And with added 10.75% tax and 18% tip, will add another $11+ to your bill. Dining in Oakland is ridiculous!). Something as simple as that should be complimentary honestly, like Korean banchan. We also were asked for refills on our cocktails and desserts multiple times by multiple staff. It felt like they were trying to add more items to our bill, despite us having 2 cocktails and 4 dishes already. FYI, they don’t do any complimentary bday treats or wishes. I listed my reservation as a bday dinner on Resy and it didn’t seem to make a difference. A greeting would have at least been nice! On the upside, we were seated all the way in the back near the bathroom, and Chef Dominica constantly checked in on us during our meal. She even waved when we left! That was nice of her.
First, they sat us outside with no heater, which wasn’t very comfortable. As for the food, everything we ordered chips, spicy carrots, fish tacos, and pork carnitas was super greasy and lacked flavor. The queso had just a little bit of cheese on top and didn’t taste like much. Overall, the food was disappointing. The best part of our visit was our waitress she was very nice and friendly!
Mexican restaurant with good variety of fresh delicious cousins. Reasonably priced to quality and atmosphere. Good to have reservation otherwise expect a wait time and or bar seating Has decent indoor and outdoor seatings. Full bar with bar counter and bar seating. Open kitchen makes it a bit noisy but still fine with pleasant background music. Service was a bit messy with couple mistakes but not bothered much like bringing wrong order etc. Good for date night, couples, small group, meetup and seniors. All in all, will go back again.

After hearing about how everyone is amazed by this place, we finally decided to try it. The food was good, but I don’t think it was good enough to justify the price. There was 3 of us in total, each ordered something different; the duck dish, the pork rib dish and fish tacos. The pork ribs were super tender, just sliding off the bone and tasted very good. I feel like the majority of the dish was black beans, though. I think the dish could reduce the amount of beans and add some rice instead. The slaw that comes with it is very citrusy and sour. I didn’t like it at all. It did come with 2 their homemade corn tortillas which were very good, but should have come with 4 to be honest. ——————————————————- The other dishes I didn’t personally try, but the general notes from the others was this: The duck dish was nice and crispy and overall good flavor. The fish tacos were comically large, but lacking in flavor. ———————————————————- The Agua Fresca was really good, as well as their Horchata. The chips and guacamole side was delicious too. Their chips are amazing. The music in the place was WAY too loud. We couldn’t have a conversation without having to almost yell. It’s very large and open so the sound just bounces off everything. Really should reduce the volume. Overall, we weren’t really impressed with the food for the price. Honestly, I think there’s far better places for far less the cost.
⭐️ Excellent Food, but Service Felt Like Self-Service ⭐️ The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. However, the service felt more like self-service. I had to ask for the drink menu, to-go boxes, and even the check. We were never offered a dessert menu, even though it was my mother’s birthday. Our entrées also came out immediately after the appetizer, making the meal feel rushed. The food was fantastic, but I hope next time the service matches the quality of the kitchen.
We were enjoying the vibe, food, and drinks. With a 6:15 PM reservation on a Monday, we were surprised—and disappointed—when we were asked to vacate our table at 7:34 PM, well under the 2-hour window stated on Resy. We were told to finish our drinks in the waiting area, which felt abrupt and inconsistent, especially as the table next to us, occupied by two guests who’d been seated earlier, was left undisturbed. It was an unfortunate and rude end to an otherwise nice date night.
