Maguire's Ocean Beach Reviews
I have to eat here at least twice a week when I'm in OB. Excellent menu and attentive wait staff. Views of the Bay, un-matched. Their 🌞 Sun Set views are worth the wait.
First time on Fire Island even though I am a long time long island Nassau county resident at one point in time of my life. And I will be going back to Fire Island hopefully religiously or atleast annually. It's not a perk of the resturant but there is a kids park next door and it made everything better. Service, atmosphere, drinks were on point. Sitting right next to the pier makes take pictures worthwhile. Food is great but not special (typical south shore food, no complaints though) Thus resturant accommodated a 25 person party and flourished. Book ahead of course.
Awesome! Great food and great service. Everything was fresh, drinks were cold, and our server Logan was awesome.
Great dining experience at Maguires. I’ve been coming here for years for drinks at the bar but finally had some time to grab some lunch. Food was fresh, delicious and portion sizes were good. Our server, Kasey was friendly and attentive. Also love their cocktails! AND THE VIEW.. go for the view! Can’t wait to go back!
Love Mags. Great food, service is impeccable and staff wonderful. Love all the bartenders, Tommy, Bomb, Kasey, Erik, Deehydrate and Steve. Big ups to Tom Beggins the best bar back on FI. Great service from Capt Ron and Mike.
We were here in the off season but absolutely loved the location, the service and the food. The cocktails were outstanding as well. The steak and horseradish mashed potatoes were fantastic and my sister got some kind of pasta which she said was great. View at sunset is killer. We sat outside on the patio and were in heaven!
Recently ate at Maguires for lobsterpalooza! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We had amazing seats out on the deck and had beautiful sunset views. Our waitress Amanda was very attentive and made our experience awesome the lobster meal was AMAZING! The general manager was so friendly and went out of her way to ensure that we had an amazing dining experience. Will definitely go back and will be telling everyone to go here!
I've been here a handful of times and I between eating and drinking at the bar it is an amazing atmosphere along with amazing staff. Definately try the lobsterpaloza Thursdays. When we went our market price was 34.99 and we got a hefty sized lobster with a baked potato and corn. Can't beat the view of the bay either. Worth the visit
This place is a must when you’re in ocean beach! Our waiter Ron was so nice and attentive! The GM Alex was so cool but also professional! The food was so delicious! We were a table of 7 and it was no sweat for these guys! Right on the water watching the sunset! Deff will be back-Thanks Maguires!
They cut me and my boys off from the bread after like 6 loaves, but otherwise an incredible experience. Absolutely recommend you go here, just don’t ask for more than 5 servings of bread. They’ll cut you off. Get the ahi tuna instead
First place to eat when you get off the ferry or on your way back. Service is extraordinary, the best team. Clams are so fresh it’s unbelievable. You could sit indoors or on the deck.
Food was good, the outdoor patio was really enjoyable, service was pretty decent as well. Definitely one of the better options in Fire Island.
I have to compliment our waiter, Toby, and the meal we enjoyed there last Saturday night, August 10, 2024. In the midst of one of the busiest nights I have ever seen, we were served by Toby with warmth, a smile, and just the right amount of gentle joking. We go to Maguire’s every year since 2007, during our beloved week on the island. This year, the food stood out as even better than usual. The wild mushroom ravioli (appreciated the menu change) and all the fish, mussels and steamers were wonderful. A place that could survive on location alone does not rest on its laurels. It is worth the trip, regardless of the view or the weather.
Can’t comment on the food, but the late-night bar service was great. More of an old-school dive type of place. Awesome!
Totally awesome experience here at Maguire's. The food was tasty, portions were ample and satisfying.
The outdoor dining by the water was great. The view and the breeze were relaxing and refreshing. We ordered salads and fries, both of which were delicious and well portioned. The service was a bit slow at times, but that has been typical of all restaurants. Make sure to go sit down before you are hungry. I would definitely eat here again.
Eric was the best bartender I’ve ever met. He made my whole vacation and stay in Ocean Beach very memorable. His service and attitude was highly exceptional. He gave phenomenal service. I would highly recommend coming to McGuire’s and seeing Eric as a bartender. He gives phenomenal service!!!!
Macguires is a lively eatery that isn't too expensive, especially if you're a bit low in cash after the ferry ride to Fire Island in the first place. We had the best waitress! She was very nice, informative, and social! She was very patient, as we were a big group and took a while to order. I ordered the Bungalow burger, and everyone got a small sliver of watermelon on their plate along with their entree. Highly recommend!
Came here for lunch on a weekday. There was no wait and plenty of seating available on the outdoor area. It is very nice to sit outside and view the bay. This is my first visit for a meal in a few years. I remember the portion sizes being quite small, but today the portions for each dish were extremely generous! The food was also very delicious and the ingredients were fresh. Service was polite and prompt. To my surprise, the burger was served with a slice of watermelon! Refreshing!
The food was delicious, one of the best salads i ever had. I sat at the bar and was super impressed by the bartender/server Eric. I had ordered a drink and there wasn’t enough mix. So he checked to see if he added something to it in substitution would it affect any allergies and if I would be okay with that substitution or if I wanted to order something else entirely. Such amazing customer customer from Eric; definitely made it one of the best dining experiences I had on fire island. There was another bartender/server Tommy who also was helpful and friendly. The food and view is amazing but the excellent customer service is why I’m going to come back.
Some friends, my wife, and I recently had lunch at Maguire's Bayfront Restaurant in Ocean Beach. The food was fresh and delicious, and the cocktails were excellent. I highly recommend trying Bubba’s Five Rum Punch. It’s a standout drink. If you stop at the bar, be sure to see Erik. He’ll take great care of you and makes incredible cocktails. One of the best parts of dining at Maguire’s is sitting in the back, where you can enjoy a stunning view of the Great South Bay. I definitely recommend Maguire’s Bayfront Restaurant if you’re planning a trip to Fire Island.
Great Place to enjoy fun dinner during summer time. Food is amazing , team keeping it professional even during the busiest hours. The area around full interesting shops and place close to beach area which is amazing. Note is you traveling from Kismet use water taxi or walk romantically along beach, big part of road is just sand dunes and made only for beach bikes.
We were there mid-week, between lunch and dinner service. Had a table with a view and was served quickly. We returned later about sunset for a cocktail and again service was quick. I would definitely return. We had Megs French dip sandwiches with fries and it was perfect. Couldn't stop myself from finishing it all.
Feel like Fire Island has a lot of great food options but if you’re looking for THE dinner spot, this is it. It feels more like a sit down dinner than some of the other places on the coast, and you have such a great view of the water, sunset, etc. Food was pretty good and portions were much larger than I expected. Given that it’s Fire Island, prices are pretty much in line with that. The steak went above and beyond expectations though! Servers are great. Nice drinks menu. And the bread was so good, got multiple baskets and loved every single bite. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area!
5+++ Stars. Rode our bikes specifically to this restaurant from the Fire Island Lighthouse. A trek well worth the reward. Had the roasted Bronzini and the pan seared cod plus mussels appetizer. The cucumber cocktail and octoberfest beer. Get this exact meal and you will not be disappointed. The cod was the very best I believe I have ever had like your great grandmother from Newfoundland would make. Seriously that good. The sunset is just otherworldly. Sitting on the waterfront watching the world slowly turn. Fire Island is a magical place and this is the place to dine to really enjoy that.
Enjoyed a pleasant lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Arrived at 2:30 pm and they were fairly busy. The service fairly slow. 10 minutes to receive waters. The tables are sticky and could use another wipe down in between turnovers. The lobster roll meat was fresh but the bread was soggy. The BAT panini with the chicken and truffle fries were fantastic. The jet fuel was amazing. This would be 3 stars, but the weather and food made up for the cleanliness and slow service.
I had a pleasant experience with a few family members. We were seated outside around 5:30 (it was a little hot) views are amazing and are waiter "Captain Ron" was on point the entire night. I had the seared "sushi grade" ahi tuna and it was delicious. Cocktails were cold and kept coming at a feverous pace (espresso martini at desert was cold pressed and really good) at the end a hostess named I believe Alex asked if we wouldn't mind giving up the table for an incoming party and in exchange bought us all a round on the house at the bar. All in all a great dinning experience!
Went here yesterday w/ husband & a friend on a Saturday for dinner. At about 3:30 PM, I had called & tried to make reservations for 5:30 PM, but was told that they don't make reservations for parties of 6 or under. When we walked there at 4:30 PM for a drink, it was a different story. The man at the front said that he could take my name down for a table at 5:00 PM. At 5:00 PM, it started getting crowded & I stood by the front as he called out different names. Once he called my name, we were lead outside for a table. I suggest you do something similar at this place for a table because it gets very crowded. The fried calamari is excellent and the oysters are yummy. Yes, everything is overpriced, but that's everywhere on Fire Island, especially after the pandemic. Lots of prices have gone up. I think establishments are trying to recoup their losses. The ambience outside is so pretty!!
Great Seafood. Great Signature Cocktails. Be sure to make reservations it gets crowded. Kindly ask your server to time between appetizers and entrées. We felt the meals were rushed out before we finished appetizers. In spite of this, we had a fun filled evening. 😀
The place had customers, great water views but really wasn't that busy on a Wednesday. Our drinks took a while to come, and my mom's coffee was cold. She just took a sip, and that was it. I was surprised it took so long to get our order in, and then it took way too long to get served. By the time the food arrived, it was not hot. We were by then too hungry and ate just enough to get by. I was only impressed by the views outside...
I ended up enjoying my time here. The staff was helpful and very accommodating to our special needs upon arrival. The young lady who greeted and seated us was very nice. As we sat down at the table the mood shifted. Initially, the waitress was abrupt and not as welcoming, however as the time progress she came around more and was more approachable.
It was my first time visiting Fire Island. My cousin made reservations for 3:15 for 9 of us. We were seated in a timely manner and waited on by Isabelle. The weather was pleasant. We sat indoors but still had nice views of the ocean. I had steamed mussels and buttermilk fried chicken with a side of fries. A couple members of my party waanr fond of their dishes due personal tastes but it is what it is. Fried calamari was good. Food I ordered was average I enjoyed the ambiance, the company I was surrounded by and the excellent customer service. ***sidenote: parties of 6 or more; there will be gratuity included in the bill, parties of 7 or more require a $50 deposit to hold your reservation and lastly the bill can only be split up to 4 cards which include a 3.5% surcharge*** In other words it pays to use cash instead. Our bill came to a little over $400. Should you be visiting with small children there is a playground adjacent to the restaurant.
Asked for a table outside along the rail. Hostess advised me that 4 adults cannot sit at any of the empty tables set for 6! Asked to sw the Mgr & was told he's too busy! Went inside asked the Mgr, who reluctantly, let us sit at a table along the rail! Our waitress saved the day. We rec'd 5 star service from her and the rest of the wait staff. Food was expensive, crab legs were $58! A rocket fuel drink was half the price at the bar than what we were charged at the table! Total bill was $296 + a very generous tip. I think we spent more than other tables of 6 that were drinking soda & only having appetizers. Overall food was good.
The food was just ok. I had the thai curry shrimp and scallops in a pineapple. The seafood was cooked well, it had the curry flavor but desperately needed salt. I also had the Paloma drink, which seemed watered down. My daughter had the buffalo wings. She said they were good. Very underwhelming experience.
Food was pretty good. Would be nice if the lobster roll had more side options than more fries or a bunch of greens. Service wasn't very attentive. It was just me and took a hour and a half because they waiters would dissappear for several minutes. There were 3 of them and only 5 tables since this was in between lunch and dinner rush around 330pm. Staff was very friendly when they were servicing the tables though.
Location Location Location! The view is great the cocktails were good too! The food is just ok not bad but this positive review is because of what I already mentioned great spot in fire Island with good drinks! I felt like I was at a pirates of the caribbean bar & restaurant and that's a good thing cause i love those movies!!!
We had reservation. Place was extremely crowded with kids camp group so waitstaff was very pleasant but they were somewhat understaffed due to the size of the group. Some problems with food that they addressed. OK for burgers and fries.
3 stars are for the location views and some of the food, based on being there numerous times this summer. However the bartender gets half a star. Spent fortune 3x I was there, bringing 4-6 ppl w me. Not only did he not buy back a single drink he had an attitude to boot. Will dine there but won’t be drinking there as long as he is tending bar.
Food was just okay but our waiter was terrible not only did he forget half the things we ordered but the stuff he did remember took forever to come out. One of us ordered the halibut it was so overcooked that it tasted like a dry can if tuna. The lobster was good but the new England clam chowder was most likely from a can it was barely even mixed, they didn't serve any horse radish with the oysters or clams so we asked 3 times but never got it. So great location, beautiful views the selection of food could have been better but the help definitely needs retraining it wasn't that crowded for them to be in such a disarray.
Food is good but nothing memorable, definitely not worth the high price tag. Surcharges added for everything (e.g.; large group, splitting a dish). The entire staff was drinking after 9:00pm. Just go somewhere else
I never leave a mean review but my experience at this restaurant was so bad I wanted to save others the trouble. I ordered a jade salad which is about the same price as a panini with a side. The only person that should be ordering this salad is someone with a rabbit to give the salad too. The portion is so small and it's such a basic mix, the rabbit would probably run away in search of more food. Save your money and go to one of the many other restaurants in the area. View: 3.5, Food: 2.5
They closed on Friday for a private party and all the loyal weekly customers have to go elsewhere
Food was fine but everything else was unbelievably bad. I don’t think you can charge prices like these while having a staff of entirely high school and college kids who don’t care. We waited 45 minutes for our food and had to chase our waitress down for every little thing. My parents split a salad and pasta and they charged the split surcharge of $7 for EACH DISH. Mains were all $30-$60 for average food and espresso martini was nasty as well.
I see a lot of positive reviews for this restaurant, but our experience was not good. We were there on a day trip to the island for lunch. The positive things about the experience were the view, and my husband's burger and son's wings. The biggest disappointments was that I ordered a chicken sandwich which came with the 'signature Maguire sauce and onions' and it came out with nothing on it. When I asked the man who brought the food out (not the waiter) he said that I must have made a mistake in my order and ordered the creole burger. I said no, I know what I ordered and that it comes with onions and sauce. The man continued to argue that I ordered wrong or maybe the waiter put in for the wrong item because the only sauce they had was for the creole burger. He then asked if I wanted the sauce or not! Then it was never mentioned that the soda was $4.50 a glass and did not have free refills. It wasn't on the menu, either. My sons drank $36.00 in soda! Food was way overpriced (I get it's an island coming off a pandemic, but $18.50 for 2 shrimp tacos with nothing else?? too much in my book). We spent $126 for lunch for 4 and went away hungry and angry at the man who argued with me about my sandwich! We did find it right on the menu, I was right. I should have pointed that out, but was too upset at that point.
Okay so. You pay mostly for the view and the location. You get the chicken. Its truly okay. The beer selection is decent. But then you get the bill. And you can pay it. No problem usually. You paid 20 for the ferry and 17 for the parking, so you were prepared to spend some money. But when you get charged $9 for a Heineken, you can tell something is a little screwy. Also the service was too slow and too many things were out of stock for the prices to be justified as "high end". I'm just saying, maybe we can do better. Fire Island can do better.
The view and the ambiance are the top reasons to go however I'd say the food/drinks were mediocre and the service was not great. We had the ahi tuna, rib eye steak, ribs, shishito peppers, and brussel sprouts. The vegetables were the highlight by far. The ribs were good but you only get 3 since it's an appetizer dish. The steak and tuna were ok. The kitchen would not allow any sides substitutions which is a bit lazy if you ask me. The server had a sarcastic sense of humor which was a bit biting but the real issue was when we paid our bill and left a good tip but were asked to leave the table and finish our drinks at the bar not even 10 minutes later. He said there were others waiting for our table, however there were several other tables open and no one was waiting by the host booth. We finished four drinks only a few minutes later at the bar but no one was seated at our table before we left. It really made us feel unwelcome and like service completely ends the second the tip is collected.
We have eaten here on several occasions while on Fire Island, and up until this past Friday evening, always had good experiences. Unfortunately, our family dinner was ruined by a server who was angry and annoyed from the beginning. She was rude, curt, and extremely condescending on multiple occasions. She spent less than a minute going over the meal and drink options, seemed annoyed that we asked her to repeat the specials for someone who was not there when we were first seated, and generally disgusted with anything to do with our table. A person like this should not be waiting tables for a living if it's not what they want to do. We paid our $500 check, and even left an above average tip in spite of the fact that she deserved nothing. And yes, it is possible she had a bad day, and we just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, but when I mentioned this to the owner, he apologized, said he would speak to her, but also said he was surprised because she was one of his best servers. With that, I realized there was really nothing else to talk about. I'm not one to write reviews on Google, but this time it was absolutely necessary. Hopefully the owner will read this, and realize my two-minute conversation last night should have been taken more seriously. Enjoy your meal!
Our family of eight, including a baby and a four-year-old, chose Maguire's for lunch the first day of our stay in Fire Island on the basis of its Google reviews. We were greatly disappointed. We were seated promptly at an outdoor table and our server took our orders promptly. The lunch went downhill from there. The food was mediocre overall, and the service was abysmal. To begin with, it took 20-25 minutes for our starters to arrive. The mussels were good but the fried calamari wasn't as crisp as it should have been. Our server apologized for the delay, excusing it "because we had ordered calamari and mussels," both of which are, of course, quick to prepare. We then had to wait another half hour for our main courses, with the children growing increasingly restless. The Caesar salads were alright, but my husband's fish tacos were cold, and my portobello mushroom sandwich had aioli on it even though I had very clearly requested it be be omitted. The server told me that he would bring me a fresh sandwich. This took another fifteen minutes, and the sandwich turned out to be not worth the wait. In total our disappointing lunch took up an hour and a half of our first day on Fire Island, time we would have much rather spent on the beach.
Food is good. Service can be good, unless the waitress thinks she would like to give your table to someone else so she can make more money. I was at McGuire this summer with a friend. We both do not drink but we ordered $90.00 worth of food at dinner. My friend and I had been eating for one hour, there was no line or waiting list and there were parties of four or more around us. She only came to the two of us to ask us to leave because she would need the table. I told her no and the sweet, smiley waitress turned very serious. Even if I did not leave, it created a situation where I felt unwelcome. People do not go to a waterfront restaurant to eat quickly and leave. This is not the way I like to be treated after spending $100.00 at a restaurant.
Great place to view sunset if you get outdoor seating! The sunset that day was beautiful, but unfortunately we were not able to get outdoor dining. Food is crazy overpriced and overall not worth it. We had the Pineapple Bowl, Thai chicken, Signature Salad, kids butter pasta, and kids hot dog. Pineapple bowl was in an actual pineapple which was pretty cool. The taste/flavor was not bad. Thai chicken was a bit dry. Salad was one of cheaper options (around $20 I believe) but the taste was a little dry. However, with added chicken (and only given a few pieces) it added another $10 to the salad… 😕 Crazy. Butter pasta was fine, the hot dog was burnt… Our kid couldn’t even eat it. On a small island, it’s expected to be overpriced, but overall the food was not that great. The view is spectacular though.
The food was disappointing and overpriced. We ordered octopus, but since they ran out, they replaced it with a piece of sausage, which I cannot eat because I don’t eat meat.
Expensive but it's fire island, food wasn't great, service wasn't either, rather rude. They don't serve burgers at dinnertime (if multiple people ask every night maybe it should make it to the dinner menu...) They didn't even ask how you would like the steak cooked you just get well done... It was a little busy so I understand service is a little slow, however every round of drinks was 30mins HOWEVER while we waited for our check the manager jumped in the second we signed our receipt asking us to leave citing a wait. Incredibly RUDE that it was okay for us to wait for everything but the second we cut into their time asked to leave... I can not recommend this restaurant.
Horrific experience. Absolutely disgusted by the service and food. Our server told us what not to order because of how bad the food was, and the food we did order was just mediocre. After spending a decent amount of money on food and drinks, my friend asked for plastic utensils before we left. Immediately, a female with brown hair told us they did not have any and not to ask the bartender. The same female seemed agitated and frustrated by the question. We asked another employee who kindly ran to the back and found the plastic utensils we asked for. We were all frankly disturbed and confused why the female would tell us they didn’t have silverware, when in fact they did, and we had just paid for a meal and wanted to take our leftovers to go. This person should be trained on the basics of the service industry. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my dog, let alone any guest looking for good seafood on Fire Island. If you’re looking for bad food and a bad experience, then you’ve come to the right place.
So I came here by myself to enjoy a nice dinner on their back patio by the water this past weekend and was kind of blown away by my experience. I was sat down right away but that was the end of the good things that happened when I was here. My servers name was Cat and from the beginning of meeting her she came off as rude and just not attentive. My server Cat also would just go stretches where she disappeared on me and when she would finally come around would walk past me like I was invisible when I tried to get her attention. One thing that happened when I ordered two alcoholic beverages a soup and an entree and noticed other servers giving their tables bread I had to ask another server was the bread complimentary and he said yes and without me even asking ran and got me bread super quick and I was appreciative of that and when I asked Cat, my server about it she just shrugged her shoulders and asked if I wanted anything else. When I finished eating and asked another server to find my server to get the check, I decided to tell Cat about my displeasures with the service. She then didn't offer a apology or anything and just proceeded to shrug her shoulders again and say "You win some you lose some". Which I was in shock to hear from a server because I never heard that before. It just came off as unprofessional and rude. I then proceeded to walk to the front and ask if I could make a complaint to someone and when I told the lady what Cat had said to me she then proceeded to say, "I know Cat on a personal level and she would never say that". Again in shock I was then made out to be a liar, it was overall just very unprofessional and kind of upsetting experience that left a terrible taste in my mouth. I hope an owner sees this and stresses the importance of professionalism, hospitality, and overall just kindness to my server because no one should have to deal with this kind of situation.
1.5 hours to get apps, totally rude and made comments, terrible. I’ve gone to fire island for 20+ years, the other places in town are better, cheaper, and better restaurants. Totally not worth it.
While the food was delicious but the “general manager” has zero customer service skills. Beautiful scenery, delicious food. Notice to the owner change the general manager if you want to sustain. Won’t be back while she is here. Wasn’t looking forward to a round of free drinks. Thanks for nothing….
Awful, I have never written a negative review of a restaurant but I’ve honestly never felt so mistreated by one. My girlfriend and I were looking forward to visiting this place for a while. We just got off a crowded ferry, and b lined to Maguire’s for a nice lunch on the water. The place looked nice, the menu looked good. The waitress brought us out to the deck and sat us about 20 feet from the water. The restaurant was not crowded at all. There was no line, and Quite a few tables opened. 1 in particular. Right on the water. I asked the hostess if we could move closer to the water, it’s not like we get a chance to enjoy such a nice view that often. The hostess was rude, and explained to us that the table was reserved for parties of 4-6 people. To be clear, there were numerous other tables open, there were also numerous tables against the railing with couples and there was 1 with a single woman sitting there. I was sitting, watching this open table being unused and just seething. I couldn’t believe we were sitting 20 feet from the water while an unused table was sitting there opened with nobody looking to come in. My girlfriend asked the waitress, she said that it was 4-6 people also. She said she would ask, and then she rolled her eyes as she walked away. Maybe we overreacted, but this ruined our day. Thank you for nothing. I’m sure that table is still open now and we went to Island Mermaid which was amazing.
After having a very sad cocktail at Maguire’s, mind you…it was 1 cocktail on my first trip to Fire Island, I was handed my bill. I paid my bill and chose no tip and I noticed my waitress caught an attitude. My waitress then proceeded to say “you can leave your cash tip on the table” but since I had 1 sad drink, I chose not to. As I was getting ready to leave, the waitress approached me and asked “why didn’t you tip?”. I was taken aback at the fact I was even asked to provide a tip when it’s customer’s preference. Do better. Pay your staff so they aren’t relying solely on tip to the point they have to ask customers for tips.
If you love your self don’t go to this restaurant. The food is cold and tasteless, worst panini I ever had. I don’t think the restaurant understands what a grilled chicken is, they served a baked chicken breast in the panini that wasn’t even pressed . If you’re looking for an April fool’s experience here is where you should dine. If one simple dish wasn’t executed correctly I can’t even imagine how everything else taste like. We paid over $100 dollars for lunch, only order 2 grilled chicken panini and 2 margaritas. When the waiter asked how was your meal I said it was bad and cold all he said “I’m so sorry” and handed us the check.
Food is fine but quite overpriced. If you’re gonna be going for happy hour, make sure you ask which section it applies. We got put in a section that was not the happy hour. It was very unclear. So we paid way more than I would expect for something that we had.
I contracted food poisoning after eating at here. We had an issue with our food to the point they discontinued half the bill. Ive been sick for over a week now with a bacterial virus and there is no doubt it was from this place as my partner also got sick the night after eating here! This place may look beautiful but I have never felt more grossed out by the food.
Wish I could give 0 stars. Worse service I've ever received. Waited over 1 hr for our entres after we already ate apetizers and kids ate their meals. My kids litelly fell asleep. Not a care in the world from waiter who blamed it on "being super busy and "kitchen is backed up" . Obviously a lie since every table around us got their food and left. He simply forgot to fire our order. Not even a free drink literlly just a "sorry". Thought about just asking for my check and leaving. Food is extremely over priced and not good. Smallest portions. And what kinda restaurant doesnt offer any BURGER on their menu. Unheard of. Lots of other places to go to. Will not be returning and hope others do the same.
The food was awful. Calamari greasy and over breaded. Mussels were not flavorful. Tuna Tartar was not great and a very small portion. The lobster dinner was the worst. Lobster was very dry and no flavor. The potato was overcooked/dry. The prime rib was okay. I grew up going here and wouldn't go back.
Warning: if this happened to us it could happen to anyone! My daughter reserved her birthday dinner for 11 people days ahead of time. Her credit card information has been taken and she has been warned about a $50.00 no show fee. Group of 11 arrived on time only to be advised there is no table reserved for them as someone must’ve made an error and didn’t record the reservation properly. There was basically no apology but rather a matter of fact statement that there are no tables for at least another hour (!). It was raining hard on that night and 11 hungry guests had to wait over an hour to be seated. Before leaving an establishment my daughter has been asked for the last four digits of the credit card used to secure her ‘non existent’ reservation so she could be refunded a 50.00 fee (?!) This establishment clearly must learn how to ‘hold’ a reservation after making one. Pretty unbelievable experience.
For starters, the view was good. It wasn't breathtakingly good, but it was good. We were seated, and very quickly realized how rude and arrogant the manager was. There was a lack of professionalism in the air as well, and the food could use some serious work. We had a large group and mistakes seemingly came over and over again. Old vegetables in the salads, a tiny piece of bread for the whole table, and cleanliness were big issues early on as well. The seafood tasted cheap and was FILLED with sand, which they claimed was our fault and not their own. Expensive too. OVERALL, stay away. There are plenty of places to stay at where you'll leave full and with more money in your pockets. Decent views, subpar food, and horrid service is what you'll expect here.
1 Star overall because of their, in my view, crookedness. The bartender told us it would be better to pay bar tab at bar. As we did in cash. When we got our food tab sitting outside for dinner our bar tab was on that bill as well.$153 bar tab. Plus food tab. It didn't sound like a mistake. We paid cash at the ba, card at table. After dinner when we complained we saw our bar bill sitting next to cash register never processed....why??? According to manager he said it was a miss communication with staff...doesn't seem right .. something fishy going on. No offer to correct their mistake by offering us a round of drinks...what happened to customer satisfaction.🙄 Other than that our server Captain Ron was awesome absolutely amazing in fact. The food & location was excellent as well. Beware and check your bill..
In all fairness, restaurants on Fire Island are not ever great, but Maguire's Bayfront restaurant is especially bad. The food was seriously overpriced and our server was inattentive. Had the stuffed flounder (Tuna fish) has better flavor, it was rubbery and tough. The sirloin was ok, but not enough to overcome all the other shortcomings. It took forever for our drinks to arrive and our waitress was somewhat helpful with suggestions, but enough to make up for poor service. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place.
The food was good, and I visited with my fiancée for a birthday weekend. Unfortunately, we were seated near a large family whose children were disruptive, which affected the overall experience. While there was ample seating available, we didn’t want to be rude to them by requesting to move. We left what we felt was a fair tip, not as a reflection of the waiter’s service, but of the overall environment. To my surprise, the waiter later approached me to express dissatisfaction with the tip, which I found highly unprofessional. When I offered to resolve the issue, he simply walked away with what felt like guilt tripping. While his initial service was fine, addressing guests about tips, especially in this manner is completely inappropriate. It left an otherwise enjoyable evening on a sour note. The food and location have potential, but I’m hesitant to return if this is how the staff engages with guests Regardless of that whole interaction I did leave additional tip but given the interaction perhaps the original amount was correct to begin with.
Avoid this place like food poisoning!!!! Fire Island isn’t exactly known for having amazing food, but this restaurant is probably scraping the absolute bottom when it comes to quality, service, and attitude. We made the mistake of ignoring the bad reviews. Every single bad review we read was dead-on. We came in for dinner—a group of us—expecting a decent meal. Instead, we got attitude from the second we sat down. Our server acted like we were an inconvenience just for existing. No greeting, no warmth, just this constant vibe like we were ruining his night. We ordered multiple appetizers. We figured we will wait to order entrees until appetizers come. Our server messed up our order and had the audacity to argue with us about it, insisting that we ordered wrong. All of us knew exactly what we said, but he doubled down like we were losing our minds. When we pointed out the mistake, he didn’t apologize or fix it gracefully—he smirked and basically said, “Well, you already ate half, now you want the other thing?” Excuse me? We only started eating it because we assumed it was what we ordered—his screw-up, not ours. We had to flag down another server just passing by to figure out what the hell we were actually served, because ours was too busy ignoring us. Eventually he brings out right order, thanks for catching up. But the service never improved. No water refills, no check-ins, nothing. We kept flagging servers who weren’t even assigned to our table. That should tell you everything. Then comes the next slap in the face. We get the bill—and they charged us half for the wrong order. We ask for the manager. Thinking maybe someone will finally act like a professional. Nope. This so called general manager, I believe her name is Catherine, strolls over with the same condescending tone. Tells us she personally told them to charge half because “you ate half.” We explained the whole thing was a screw-up on their end. She didn’t care. No accountability, just gaslighting. She acted like we were trying to pull a fast one, when her staff can’t even get a basic order right. We brought up the bread issue too. Every other table had it. When we asked a different server (again—not ours), she said, “Bread should come automatically.” Then the manager turns around and says, “We don’t give bread unless you order an entrée.” What?? We ordered multiple appetizers and were literally discussing entrées while holding the menu. Her response? “Well, you should’ve told your server.” We did. She had no idea what was going on and then had the audacity to blame the girl who brought us the bread, saying “She probably was not a server, she doesn’t know the “policy.” Nice. Throwing your own team under the bus because your restaurant is a chaotic mess with zero communication. And then, the cherry on top—when we called out how badly this was handled, how rude our server was, how condescending the whole experience felt—she says: “Sorry you feel that way (!) You don’t have to come here again. There are plenty of restaurants around.” Wow. Great way to treat paying guests. We were in shock. We then asked to speak with the owner, thinking maybe someone higher up would care. Her response? “He’ll tell you the same thing.” We insisted on waiting, and she snapped back with, “Well, you’ll be waiting a long time.” When she finally returned, she said, “He’s too busy and won’t be coming.” Translation: they don’t give a damn about their customers—top to bottom. Let’s be crystal clear: – Wrong order – Zero accountability – Server with an attitude – Manager in full denial – Had to rely on other staff just to survive the meal – Got charged for a mistake they made – Told not to come back Trust me, we won’t. If you enjoy being talked down to, gaslit over your own order, ignored all night, and then insulted by management—this place is for you. Otherwise, run. This restaurant is trash, and they treat customers like trash.
Horrible service. The server looked annoyed and kept leaving without saying anything when we took another look at the menu. They were getting ready for rain with umbrella removals but no one came to warn us and help us move our plates to another table. One waitress went over to another table telling them to move. Our food got wet. The waitress was MIA most the time. I left a tip but I definitely should not have. The food was eh.
We arrived at 4:45 pm on a Tuesday with a stroller (twins + toddler), purposely coming early to be considerate — only to be ignored and then rudely spoken to by young staff who seemed inconvenienced by our presence. There was no direction or basic courtesy, so we walked out and ended up warmly welcomed with zero issues at a local restaurant down the street. Disappointing hospitality.
The restaurant has “gluten free” labeled on their menu but then told us that the items weren’t fully gluten free. We have serious allergies. We ended up getting sick. This is unacceptable… these are serious allergies. I am disgusted and would never go back or recommend this place.
Was really excited to try this restaurant, as it was recommended by a local friend. Service was awful. Servers, hosts, bartenders all look miserable and treated me and my friends as an inconvenience. I have worked in the food business and understand when things get busy it’s hard to put on a happy face, but there was not one friendly person in the entire place. Plus we were the only table not to get complimentary bread. Meanwhile our bill was $150 plus a $30 tip!
Absolutely the worst service I’ve experienced in a long time. We were seated outdoors at 6:15 and at 7:40 the host/manager came over (immediately after we finished dessert and paid the check) and quite curtly informed us that they normally have a 2-hour turnover for tables and she would have to ask us to leave. I politely let her know that we had only been there an hour and a half. She then rudely said she’d have to check on that, obviously not believing us, and disappeared. I realized I had texted my husband right when we were about to be seated, so I went back to show her the text and she started to raise her voice and said “I’ll deal with you later” and proceeded to help the customers waiting in line. Her colleague then came over and they both acted as if we were causing a scene when in fact they were in the wrong. It was only after I explained to the colleague what happened that we got a fairly half-hearted apology. The view is wonderful and the food was fine, and the wait staff were fine too. But the host/manager set a terrible tone and don’t know the first thing about hospitality, which is really unfortunate. We will never go back and would never recommend it.
Service was terrible, long wait times, no communication, and completely disorganized staff. The food was extremely disappointing, tiny portions and tuna tartare wasn’t fresh. Overall, the experience felt like a waste of time and money. There are too many good restaurants in the area to spend your evening here. I do not recommend this place and won’t be returning.
