Coconut curry Ramen was the bomb!!! the broth was outstanding great consistency and taste was fabulous. The wife and son got blob and they liked it small place but very good to very good place to stop and eat. Parking around the side and in the back definitely come back again thank you
The atmosphere made us feel as though we were in Cambodia, enjoying food from a local street food stall. The dishes were absolutely amazing, and we were all pleasantly surprised by how flavorful everything was. We also received a souvenir after purchasing a certain beer, which was a nice touch. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the Orlando area. Please stop by and show your support!
What a great little place, serving Laotian street food. Welcoming environment, open table seating. Place your order at the counter and they bring your food to you. The staff was friendly, place was clean. Ordered Lemongrass beef jerky, sticky rice, curry ribs, lemongrass sausage, coconut curry ramen, and Thai tea. The coconut curry ramen was amazing, it was a home run on a Sunday rainy evening. Great flavor w/ depth and the noodles were perfect, just a couple of shrimp, but I did not mind we ordered some other plates to try. The lemongrass sausage and the curry ribs were really good, and with most things Asian definitely was better w/ rice. The lemongrass beef jerky was good, my buddy enjoyed it more than I did. It had great flavor, but was little tough for me. I definitely enjoyed the pork plates much more, but the lemongrass beef jerky is worth ordering. I would definitely go back and try other dishes.
I didn't go in with high expectations as I was unfamiliar with Laotian food - but I was completely blown away by every dish. I especially loved the papaya salad, stick wings and jerky. 10/10 would recommend!
I am Lao/Cambodian and it makes me so happy to see those countries being represented! I was in town and heard about sticky rice from a friend so of course we had to try it out. Let me tell you when I had the papaya salad Lao hot, it reminded me of my grandma and that lemongrass sausage, literally my favorite. The food really tastes like home and it made me appreciate where I come from even more.
I think this is my first time having Laotian food, and it was out of this world delicious! I ordered the coconut curry ramen and the fried squid on a stick, and both were excellent. The ramen broth was rich and flavorful, and the squid was tender and perfectly fried! Looking forward to trying additional menu items next time!
We tried the papaya salad, pork belly salad with sticky rice, Thai green tea, and pork tapioca dumplings!! After a long trip at Disney, we needed some spices in our system. It was packed with flavor! The papaya salad had that perfect spicy-tangy kick, the pork belly salad was so tasty with the sticky rice, and the dumplings were chewy and delicious. Washed it all down with Thai green tea super refreshing. Definitely a spot worth coming back
I don’t know how we’ve missed this place! It’s so good. We ordered the spring rolls, curry chicken, Khao Piek Sen and Thai tea. It was all so good, some of the best food we’ve had in Orlando. House made noodles hit!
The good was delicious. Loved the coconut curry dishes and lemongrass beef Jerry. The squid on a stick was OK (didn't love the batter). Wish they had more options on the menu for repeat business.
Really good no frills spot with great food. I wish the pork dumplings were a little less sweet. I made a mistake and got the papaya salad “hot” which was infact - hot. The flavor was really good though so would get mild next time. I like the choice of Japanese and Thai beer. The Thai iced tea was okay, didn’t have a strong tea flavor I wanted. All that to say, I will def come back because I thought most things were good and the vibe was chill.
Parking was easy to find next to the building. I got the coconut curry ramen and purple sticky rice with mango. Portion sizes are great and the food tasted very fresh. The atmosphere inside is very nice and the music playing was good.
Never had Laotian food before, so I’m not sure how authentic the taste was, but it was definitely different than other food we have had in the past. The pork belly laab was like nothing I’ve had in the past. It had a somewhat sour taste, but that is the flavor profile we expected based on the description. It had good overall flavorful, but the squid in a stick and jeow bong wings stole the show!
This place is an absolute gem! …friendly, smiling staff, fresh ingredients tasty food made with love. That’s all you can ask for! If you’re in the Orlando area looking for authentic Leo food this is your place. A must try!.
10/10 ✨ reasonable price for a portion of food you get. It's a very busy place, and it can be hard to find a seat. Papaya salad was AMAZING!
First time having Laotian food and I really like it. Found this place randomly while driving downtown and had to check it out. Their appetizer style servings threw me off at first but it works very well. The staff is kind and courteous, which is always a plus. I say be ready for a different flavor, it's different but good. The Steak Laab has an earthy flavor which is very good with the sriracha sauce they have. The coconut Plantains is a must for desert, a must. Never would have thought that combo worked but it really does. The picture I have isn't even the complete version, friend loved it too much before I could snap a pic.
Definitely displaying the Lao Flavors! Five stars for repping what the sign says “Lao street Food/Good”. Came to Orlando for Disney and of course that was great and I knew to stop here for a meal before catching our flight ✈️! It did not disappoint and I love to see options like this in these Cities I go to. Thanks for delivering the flavors to a new audience and thank you for the wonderful meal. We got the Chicken Tapioca Noodles Soup (Khao Piek Sen), boneless crispy chicken white Bun Sandwich (Jaew Bong Bao Bun), Pork Sausage (Lao Sausage), Crispy Rice Crunch Salad with fermented Pork (Nam Khao), and the Lao Chicken Salad Rice Bowl (Larb). If you have not try Lao Food yet but know and enjoy the flavors of Thai or Cambodian food, then come give this place a try for yourself! Would love to hear what you think of these flavors. make sure to ask as many questions as possible if you really do not know what you’re ordering by reading the menu. Oh parking was pretty easy.
I've been wanting to come back since trying them out a few years ago when they just opened. Sticky Rice Lao Street Food did not disappoint, and even better than I remembered! Everything was super delicious, flavorful, and authentic. The place has character and very casual. Definitely coming back soon! Food: I was excited to try Mok Pa (steamed catfish wrapped in banana leaf) as it seems very similar to a northern Thai dish I had growing up. It was very authentic and so packed with flavors! My next favorite dish was Lemongrass Beef Jerky. It was surprisingly tender & juicy for a deep fried jerky. I also had Lemongrass Pork Sausage (house made), Meatball Skewers (house made), Pork Tapioca Dumplings, Coconut Pandan Waffle W/ Gelato, Thai Green Tea, and Thai Coffee. Honestly every dish was so tasty & satisfying! Service: You order & pay at the counter then get a number to bring to your seat. There are 4 large communal tables, you can sit wherever is available. They will bring the food out to you when it's ready. Service was fast and friendly, no hassle. Value: $60 after tax for 5 dishes, 1 rice, 1 dessert, and 2 drinks. It's a steal! We left very full. Ambience: Super casual but the place has character with interesting decors and a cool mural on the wall. Crowd: I went at 12pm and the dining area was half full. But by the time I was ready to leave around 1pm the place got busier and the room was almost full. Parking: There are parking spaces to the side of the building and more behind the building. Coming at lunch it wasn't hard to find parking but it could be hard if you come during peak time.
I've never had Laotian food before, but if this is the kind of stuff I can expect, I love it! We liked everything we ordered and the quality definitely justified the prices, which weren't bad anyway. Most things are tapas style and it allows you to try a bunch of things. Seating is first come first serve, so it's best to know what you're going to order and have someone save seats. Service was fast and friendly, and I love the fun and casual vibe. Highly recommend!
Another food adventure! This place is one of our top choices every time we come down to the Orlando area for authentic Lao Street Food. For the past 3 years as always they’re very consistent. Plus, the best lemongrass beef jerky - cannot leave without. Also, the desserts if you have room for it - it is a must try! We will be back again for sure…🫶👌 Feasting…🤩😋 2 orders of Lemongrass Beef Jerky ~ A serving of flash-fried lemongrass marinated beef. Cucumber Salad 🌶️🌶️ ~ Lao style with pungent and salty flavors, cherry tomatoes, chillies, and funky dank sauce. Steak Laab Rice Bowl 🌶️ ~ Steak Laab served over jasmine rice with a side of cucumbers. Extra side of jasmine rice 🍚 Sweet Purple Rice With Mango ~ Sweet rice topped with mango, coconut cream, and coconut flakes.
I've been hearing about this place for a long, long time. So it's been on my list. Then, it appeared on the Michelin Guide, so it got bumped up on that list. I came here one afternoon to feast. First of all, it's in the best location possible, right in the heart of Mills 50. Second of all, when you enter the store, you get greeted by a very pleasant staff, and they offer to help you with the menu. I felt very welcome. We browsed the menu, and take up with a plan. I got myself a Thai Tea, and we ordered like five things to share. Thai Tea (sweetened traditional thai tea, half and half). Very delicious. The half and half amount they use makes it just sweet enough and just creamy enough. Delicious. The employees recommended the Pork Tapioca Dumplings (sweet radish & minced pork, peanuts, cilantro, dried chillies) to me. Never had anything like this. Just like a normal dumpling, but the outside is sticky, just a little sweet tapioca. Very fun, very delicious pork. The peanuts on the outside gave it a good texture, too. They also had a special that wasn't on their regular menu, the Mok Pah (Lemongrass and herb steamed fish). Loved this. The fish within the banana leaf was very fragrant and very flavorful. Lemongrass, ginger, fish sauce, different bites yielded different flavors, it was just a lot of fun. Laab Rice Bowl (Chicken; sauteed, cilantro, scallions, shallots, mint, served with jasmine rice, lettuce and cucumber). This was a nice, interactive dish. Lettuce and cucumber in order to put the chicken on and eat like nachos, very fresh and flavorful. And some nice jasmine rice to mix all around and get all juicy from the laab. Super cool dish. Papaya Salad (Lao Style with pungent and salty flavors, cherry, tomatoes, chillies, funky dank sauce). Never had papaya salad before, so I was very excited. The way this place makes their dishes, you get a cherry here, a tomato there, chili in another bite. Every bite is different, and it's just a lot of fun. A nice, fresh, sweet salad, tamped down with some salt and some heat. Loved it. Now we come to both my favorite dish and the biggest surprise of the day for me. The Jeow Bong Chicken Bao (fried chicken, sweet chili paste, red cabbage slaw). Whatever that sweet chili paste was that coated that chicken, I had never had that flavor before, but now I want it every day for the rest of my life. It was so deep and full of spices and flavor. And that red cabbage slaw added a good pop of fresh acid. Just a lovely dish. Overall, this was such a wonderful place, and it is legit now one of my favorite places in Orlando. Will come back soon and often. Thanks, Sticky Rice!
My friend took me here for my birthday. She'd been hyping it up ever since she went, and shall I say, it was worth the hype! We both ordered the kapoon nam gai. So so yummy! You can alter the spice level too- I got the regular hot and it was perfect. Our server was sweet & helpful, bathrooms were clean, & place overall had a cozy atmosphere. I'd never had Laotian food before this, but I will certainly be back to try more!
There's only one word I can say about this place.......wow. Every single plate is absolutely delicious. I have driven by this place way too many times.... And we finally came here for my sister's birthday. I think this is one of the best Asian cuisine places in Florida. For anybody that doesn't know..... I love Asian food..... And I'm also fat. This food is so good it is beyond comprehension. We had the squid on the stick, the chicken bowl, The pork belly bowl, the lemongrass jerky.....We also had the sticky wings ....chicken rice bowl .....he papaya salad and the coconut curry..... Every single one of these dishes was a banger!!! We also had the dark lager which was very good.... And we had the Bushido premium sake that was very subtle and delicious. I am definitely going to make this place a regular place for me to come. And one more thing..... I literally drink one of the best drinks I've ever had in this place. I am a lover.... Absolute lover of Thai tea..... But here..... They have a GREEN TEA Thai tea..... The flavors of this drink are absolutely explosive..... This might be one of the best liquids I've ever consumed....... Holy crap I could drink a gallon of it but my wife wouldn't let me...... The ambiance of this place is very chill.... It literally seems like a side street in Laos where you can get great food. The tables are low to the ground....you sit in little stools. There's art on the wall and its dope. If you come across this review..... Please come here and spend your money. If it wouldn't put me in jail, I would go back and kiss the chef myself. Thank you so much sticky rice for being amazing. You have a fan forever.
I love this place. I just moved to Orlando from California. We have a large Laotian community and restaurants. I don't have many places here for comfort food (I usually will have fried chicken and sticky rice back home). I'm super happy I found this place. It's the first comfort food I've found here. The fried chicken wings and sticky rice are so yum! I like to order a side of chili oil to dip my food in.
The food here is so good. They have a lot of shareable items. I love the shrimp chips, crispy rice lettuce wraps, the tapioca dumplings, chicken laab rice bowl, lemongrass beef jerky and the coconut sticky rice with mango for dessert. Honestly, it’s delicious. The food is full of flavor and spice. If you are looking to try something new, this would be the place. I craved the coconut sticky rice.
I have been looking for a Laotian restaurant for some time now. Sticky Rice did not disappoint! The flavors are distinct from other Asian styles of cooking, so if you think it's anything you've tried at your local Chinese, Japanese, or Korean spot, respectfully, you'd be wrong. Affordable, delicious, and a very chill vibe. I'll be back again!
We really enjoyed the food here and glad we stopped in after reading the reviews. Everything was good that we ordered which was Grandmas Chicken, Sweet and Sour Shrimp, Sticky Rice, Garlic Dry Rub Wings and the one that really got us was the Flank Steak Jerky. If you go the must try is the Jerky, the marinade and flash fry is just crazy good, so much so that we had to reorder. Service was pretty fast and dining room clean.
We had an Amazing experience. This hole in the wall on Colonial Blvd. did not disappoint. If you like to try something different, then I suggest to taste Laotian street food. The flavors explode in your mouth. The beef jerky was our favorite. We also suggest to try the crispy rice lettuce wraps and the steak laab. We will come back.
We didn't realize how much food we ordered until everything came out. In total we ordered the fried squid, the chicken bao buns, Khao Piek San, coconut curry ramen, the purple sticky rice with mango, and the waffle with coconut gelato. The food was incredible, and came out fast. We went towards closing so the atmosphere was very chill and inviting.
Delicious food and great ambiance. Food was fast, service was great. Prices are also super reasonable. We tried the lemongrass beef jerky which is one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. Also tried the garlic wings, pork spring rolls, and curry ribs which were good. The chicken rice bowl was also amazing.
The best street food I've ever had. There's just something about Loatian street food! Our favorites were the crunchy rice with lettuce wraps and the lemon grass jerky. My partner said that the soup here tasted better than the chicken ginger soup from Morimoto Street Food in Disney Springs. The people working here were helpful and informative about what the favorites were and gave us the recommendation to the dishes pictured. Wonderful experience. We WILL be back!
I've been here twice and can confirm it's an awesome little place. My favorite dishes I've had are the lemongrass beef and coconut curry noodles. I tried the canned chrysanthemum tea they have in their fridge and it was nicely sweetened and herbaceous - it went with the noodles perfectly. Food came out very fast and the girl at the counter was very nice to my friend and I when we came in yesterday for lunch. Can't wait to visit again!
A foodie friend brought me here four years ago but I didn’t remember until I arrived. I knew that it was going to be a good dining experience because of his past love for this place. We ordered the Chicken Bao, Pork Tapioca Dumplings, Lemongrass Beef Jerky and Papaya Salad (Hot). Our favorite was the jerky although we enjoyed all of them. I like hot and the papaya salad was plenty hot without being ridiculous. We also each had a side of sticky rice which I feel could be shared if you’re not going to eat a lot. I’d definitely return again now that I’ve been reminded of the place.
Absolutely loved all the dishes we ordered here! I was excited to try Lao food, and this place did not disappoint. The service was great — although dishes just come out as they’re ready so we didn’t have everything all at once. The seating is limited when the place is busy, and you probably have to share a table with someone else — just to keep in mind!
Nice prices, fair portions. Decent to maybe strong 8/10 fried chicken bao Light 8 braised spare ribs. Nice texture and solid curry flavor Light 7 lemongrass sausage. distinct flavor. Strong 6 curry noodle soup. Curry flavor was decent but I just don’t think I like vermicelli. There’s no chew and I don’t think it adds much flavor. Light 6 mochi like dumplings. Flavor was meh but cool texture.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a while. We had the Pork Belly Laab and Chicken Bao Buns, which were terrific! However, the meal really shined after we ordered dessert. We had purple sticky rice with mango, which was probably one of the more interesting—and I mean that in the best, most delicious possible sense—dishes I’ve had in ages. The pandan waffle with coconut gelato was also incredible.
I saw this place in an article and put it on a list of restaurants we wanted to try. We were close by so we decided to check it out. The place is small, but the food was otherworldly. We had the crispy rice lettuce wraps, the lemon grass beef Jerry, the Kapoor nam gai, and the curry ribs. Everything was so good. We were full but didnt want to stop eating. The flavors were amazing. The seating is family style. You order at the counter and them your food is brought out as it's ready. No complaints. No regrets. Deeply satisfying. Please go visit. It's for your own good.
Absolute hidden gem on colonial! Love the lemongrass beef jerky and the curry ribs. I’ve seen many people order the rice and noodle bowls and they smell amazing, but I stick with the multiple small plate options and get either an orange tea or green tea drink. They also serve delirium tremens beer along with southeast Asian beer which I thought was impressive. Staff is extremely friendly and there is parking on the side of the restaurant and more behind the restaurant. The pictures I showed don’t do it justice, the meat on the curry ribs just falls off the bone!
Omg ! Amazing food ! I was going not knowing how was gonna be. But it was so good. I had the garlic wings (so good) The tapioca pork dumplings (this ones blew my mind , they taste so freaking good ) And the steak la laab. Such good flavors ! Definitely will be my fav place 😌 in Orlando! So super recommended for a nice and delicious meal. 🫶🏼 oh and I forgot the green Thai iced tea ♥️
Food so good! Got the wings both flavors and just yum! I really don’t wanna give them five stars cause they will be packed but I will not gate keep. Cucumber salad, yum! Sticky rice, yum! I heard someone order a dessert with mango sticky rice and now I gotta come back. Music good!
Service: the staff was very patient with me as I asked a thousand questions about the menu as it was my first time trying Lao food. You order your food at a counter and the staff really only emerges when you need them to, which is something I enjoyed. Food: The flavors are very unique and the portion sizes are meant to be shared, I would greatly recommend coming with an appetite and with a few people. I definitely recommend the lemongrass beef jerky and the crispy rice lettuce wraps!!! Atmosphere: This seemingly small restaurant is full of great vibes and lively chatter. Price: Each item was about $4-12, the most expensive item I saw was maybe $15. Great prices allow you to try a few different options on the menu. Overall: 8.3/10
One of the most authentic places in Orlando to visit. Laos influenced and it’s Michelin Bib Gourmand (good food that’s affordable). Enjoyable across generations from Toddlers to elders—my whole family enjoyed it. No tip needed, order at register and self serve water. Seating is a bit limited, but wait didn’t seem too bad. Ramen is the way to go.
The food was amazing !!!! I was in the area looking for a Thai place but came across this Laotian gem instead and glad I did. I had the chicken laab and it was delicious ! I haven’t seen this on a menu in over 15 years so I was excited. We also ordered the coconut curry ramen and was also 5/5 stars. It’s a casual eatery but don’t let that fool you, it’s authentic and top notch
I tried this restaurant Monday night and it was amazing, truth to be told. I didn't know much about Laos food and now I am beginning to understand it. it's a great introduction to a culture that's little known about. the stuff was amazing. the gentleman that took care of me genuinely gave me his ear and obviously made the perfect suggestion as an introduction to their restaurant. it's a mom and pop operation and obviously they shine above the rest. they know their food very well and they know how to serve it. the atmosphere rather relaxed and positive vibe throughout. The setting what you would expect. downright home street food like, to me it felt like I was somewhere in Asia sitting with complete strangers sharing the tables. and it felt exactly like when I went into Thailand and they had these wonderful tables for sharing where you can sit and eat with a complete stranger. it's a wonderful experience. the food was stunning and the place overall is small. and that's what attracts me to these places, it felt right. this is the kind of place where it's a great place to eat and hang out with friends or a complete stranger. you'll be amazed to know that it is not the ordinary, but the extraordinary. kudos to the management and the owners for they have done something I truly exceptional. I had what they call a laab with steak and rice and let me tell you it is not something you would normally get anywhere and everywhere, again, they are an exception to the rule. go there. stop reading, and just get there. and enjoy it!
One of my favorite meals of the year. Everything I ordered was a hit. I felt lucky to have Laotian food executed at this level. In two words: pungent and chewy. And the food was unmistakably Southeast Asian. The pork tapioca dumplings had the chewy texture of great boba with a slightly sweet pork filling and a lot of fried garlic on top. It reminded me of one of my favorite breakfast dishes I had growing up, though our version used jicama instead of pork. Dishes that evoke memories tend to be our favorites. The lemongrass beef jerky was soft and, again, chewy in a way that’s like the midpoint of American jerky and velveted beef. Lots of lemongrass as advertised in the name. Perfect amount of salt that lets the meat release flavors and juices with each bite. I’m salivating thinking about it. The larb’s flavor profile is similar to the Thai version with lots of onion, scallion, cilantro, lime, and toasted rice. This one was served with sticky rice, the soul of Lao food. The pork belly was boiled for less time compared to other cuisines so it remains chewy instead of meltingly soft. Everything was so affordable. I was pleasantly surprised at how much food I got for the price. And the flavors are much better than you’d find at many fancy restaurants. Strong recommend.
First meal upon touchdown 🛬 I loved it! the lemongrass beef jerky is in a class of its own. I didn’t get to try the bao but it looked so good. The WINGS chile. I’d go back just for the wings. The ribs were okay, I don’t think I need to have them again. Same for the dessert. The drink selection is very impressive and I even got to keep this nice glass. I’ll be back!
My wife and I love Laotian food and this place was great! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The decor was modern and we even noticed the seats were lower just like how they eat in Laos, nice touch. Overall, the food was great! Our favorite items were the ribs, lemongrass pork sausage, and meatballs. The ribs were super tender and full of flavor and the sausage and meatballs were delicious and definitely homemade. I will say that the papaya salad left a bit to be desired, just too simple, and the kapoon was a bit too salty for our taste. We definitely enjoyed our first experience at this restaurant and we will be coming back to try the rest of the menu!
Sticky Rice on Colonial is one of Orlando’s best hidden gems. I ordered the kapoon nam kai noodle bowl and it was outstanding – rich broth, balanced heat, and perfect texture on the noodles. The quality of the food here is far above what you would expect from such an unassuming spot. They’ve earned four Michelin distinctions, which you’d never guess until you taste the food yourself. Consistently excellent and absolutely worth the stop.
Sticky Rice is one of the best Asian restaurants in the whole Orlando area! I’ve been going here for years and I love it! They have the best Lao food I’ve ever eaten (which has elements from Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese if you’ve never tried), and I’ve visited northern Thailand where there are many Lao restaurants. They specialize in Lao street food and many of the dishes are absolutely incredible! Crispy Rice Lettuce Wraps, Lemongrass Beef Jerky, Pork Sausage, Pork Tapioca Dumplings, Curry Ribs, Laab…I could go on and on! So many good items from their menu. If you’re ever craving small-plate Asian food, I would recommend here before almost anywhere. Prices are reasonable, there is a decent amount of parking right next to the restaurant, food comes out fast (even when it’s busy), and the decor really makes you feel like you’re in Asia! I just love everything about this place and can’t speak highly enough of it. Give Sticky Rice a try and you’ll love it!!!
This place is located on little Vietnam/ a whole street of asain related resturants and shops (so recommended touring dessert/boba shops after this one). I ordered the lemongrass beef jerky, and man it was tasty- 9/10. My Entree was coconut curry ramen which had shrimp in it, was good but not hot enough temperature wise.. I felt like I needed to add some kind of sauce also but there wasn't any- 6/10. Then for dessert I had the purple sticky rice with mango- 8/10 (for healthy dessert/ asain food lovers). Overall the vibe of the restaurant took me to overseas inner city. Definitely would come back for the lemongrass beef jerky! And to try different things on the menu. :) was a fun experience!
Amazing food & service. First time having Laos food and wow. Family owned business that pumps out some amazing dishes at lightening speed. We loved everything we had. Highly recommend the jerky and the coconut curry chicken. Warm Sticky rice dessert was phenomenal as well. Go with a group and order 1 of every thing. You won’t be disappointed!
This place HITS every time. We crave the pork belly laab all the time because its so delicious! It's really a one of a kind dish. I recently tried the dumplings, and they're not like the typical texture you think of, its BETTER- hot, sticky, chewy, meaty, salty. No complaints about any dish whatsoever, we LOVE the service here too.
What great food! The price point was perfect. The pork belly Laab was so flavorful. Tha Kapoon Nam gai soup was perfect. The broth was was so comforting, smooth and full of flavor. The sticky wings were perfectly cooked. Their sticky rice with mango dessert was so good. Not overly sweet, I could have eaten the whole thing by myself, but I had to share. It's located in a cool and hip neighborhood in Orlando right off of Mills Ave. I can't wait to go back. Michellin awards earned 4 years in a row.
My boyfriend and I came in looking for food but unfortunately he has a fish allergy. Staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating - we ended up getting one of the desserts (purple rice with mango) and it was delicious. Even though we didn’t get any food, super happy we could stop by and enjoy a dessert!
Me. Gusta. Este. Lugar. Para.. Probar. El. Deliciosa. Coconut curry Ramen. Y. Curry. Ribs. Y. El. Squib on a stick. Lo. Mejor. 👍👍
Me encanto 🥰
Stopped by for lunch on our way back to Jacksonville. My wife and I have a habit of sharing everything we order so we can try a little bit of everything. Dishes are brought out as they're ready. To start from top of the menu, we ordered the lemongrass beef jerky and curry ribs. Beef jerky is a unique blend of sweet, savory, and lemongrass-marinated beef and definitely not your typical jerky. It's so flavorful that it can stand alone as a meal when paired with rice. Curry ribs are tender, fall-off-the-bone deliciousness in every bite. Next in the middle, we went with the steak laab and coconut curry ramen. The flavors in the steak laab are perfectly balanced with each ingredient complementing the others. Seemed served at room temperature though. We ended the meal with a delightful sweet purple rice with mango for dessert. Great value for the price! Menu items are offered at reasonable prices and I highly recommend them for anyone looking for quality without breaking the bank.
Saturday 0700pm Fun little spot, right on 50. Ordered in back and got a seat by the window. Dining area was always quite full, but not crowded yet. Crispy rice lettuce wraps were tasty. Ate it mostly with chopsticks since we ran out of lettuce. Tapioca pork and peanut dumplings were tasty af. Might be better with some sauce, but I'm not complaining. Pork curry ribs were my favorite. Chopstick tender, and a generous portion. Lastly, papaya salad. Tasted fresh, but it's just not my thing. Probably should have gone with a higher spice level (mild). Inviting atmosphere (sit where you fit). Nice location (parking in back). Small plates are actually quite large. Fun and fair priced. My only dig, would be the sticky table tops. But who honestly cares?
Very Southeast Asian vibe. They nailed the Sticky Rice desert with ice cream that I ordered. The ribs and beef jerky is also amazing. The tables are long (shareable) and very spacious for big groups. Medium noise great for fun chatting.
Very good food. Bit on the pricey side, though. For the cost and how good it was, I will probably try someplace else next time and see if I can get a better value. No doubt was good food, though. Service was not bad, nor was it good. The young lady taking orders looked and felt like she really did not want to be there. The dining room was neat and clean and well themed. The restroom was neat and clean as well. Parking is around the corner.
First time trying Lao food and it was pretty good. I thought this was just a casual Asian restaurant but the server told me they server Lao cuisine which I’ve never heard of before. I ordered the Coconut Curry Noodle and the Pork Belly Laab. The Coconut Curry tasted very rich and the Pork Belly was stir fried perfectly. My only complaint is that the Pork Belly was lacking a little bit of flavor and it cost $1 to add sauce on the side. Overall a great experience and great food!
We decided to try this place on a whim a few months ago and were pleasantly surprised. Their ramen is super flavorful! Their service is fast and always friendly and helpful. It's a very laid back atmosphere and a perfect lunch or dinner. I wish the ramen with the shrimp came with more then two pieces but it is delicious nonetheless.
Update: 11/2024: Food quality is good. Unique items. Some good, some I'm not crazy about. People seem to like it as it's never empty. I do think it's pretty pricey these days after COVID, making it difficult to enjoy and definitely not filling up. 2018: Very tasty, unique food. Comfortable shared table environment. Nice decor. Order at counter business. Will definitely go back.
1 Star - food was completely underwhelming. Will never return. 2 Star - food was sub par. Could return after changes are made. 3 Star- Nothing special here. As expected food and would return when the craving strikes. 4 Star - Food or service was above average. There was something good here and I will seek opportunities to eat here. 5 Star - exceptional food quality, quantity, and service. I will go out of my way to eat here and travel to this destination for a meal. I have lever experienced Lao food before. Honestly, of all of the countries in the world, Laos has always seemed distant and difficult to learn about. So, when a friend recommended that we try, I was game. The flavors were great. They really popped and lingered with you making you wish you had just a bit more. Everything was fresh and pretty quality. A bit different than you would expect that portrays themselves as "street food". Also, Thai Green Tea may be one of my new favorite drinks. I like Thai Tea a good bit, but using Green Tea instead of the dyed black tea, it was so flavorful and fantastic. I don't like Green Tea typically, but I suppose I should try it with sugar now... Regardless, I would anticipate returning here and eating again. It was quite tasty and if you are like me, take the opportunity to learn something new!
Very cool ambiance. Papaya Salad - So tasty and refreshing. I would have preferred shrimp chips over pork rinds though. Jeow Bong Chicken Bao - Packed with saucy flavor! Coconut Curry Ramen - Absolutely delicious soup base. All of the ingredients were cooked well, and the noodles had great texture. Sweet Purple Rice with Mango - A satisfying way to end the meal. It wasn't too sweet and can definitely be shared.
Okay, so the only reason i gave 4 stars on food is because i felt the menu was highly restive. There are not a lot of choices. Now, the spring rolls were fabulous, the cury noodles were goo, but I found the noodles to be a little less al dente than I would prefer. The broth was delicious, and i added a little extra heat from the sauce on the table. The pork tapioca dumplings were interesting. The filling was really good, but the tapioca coating on the outside was a little too gummy and chewy for my taste. Now, i imagine this is exactly how tapioca dumplings are supposed to be, but not my personal preference. It had the similar consistency of boba. I did not knock down to four stars for that it is only because of the limited selection. Bothe the udin and ramen were very good. The portions were great. I got two meals out of it. The fried rice like dish was more of a laos style with meat processed like I think it's called larb. Sorry for the lack of proper info at the end here. Just know it is a great atmosphere, and if you like laotian food, this is a great choice.
Service: You have to order at the counter, but they will give you a number to bring to wherever you decide to seat yourself and bring you the food. To pay, you also pay at the counter, whenever you're ready, either before or after your meal, in case you want to keep a tab open and order more. There were no issues. Food: The Thai tea was refreshing and great without being too sweet. It was perfect for me. The Lemongrass beef jerky was too salty for me but also very flavorful with lemongrass and maybe other spices too. The texture is different from the typical beef jerky I've had because this was very crispy outside. There was a good portion as well. I don't know if it is normally this salty or oversalted by mistake, but less salt would have made it much better for my tastes. The Pork Belly Laab rice bowl isn't fancy but it is good with a home-made feel to it. The pork belly was cooked well, and seasoned just enough. I also liked that it was not too fat, maybe one-third fat. It was mixed with cilantro, onion, and a single whole jalapeño pepper. The sticky rice was good and the lettuce and cucumber were fresh. I ended my meal with the sweet purple rice with mango. The mango wasn't very sweet because it wasn't in season, but the person working did warn me, so I appreciated it and can't blame them for it. It was my first time trying such a dessert and I'm not sure it was for me. It was mildly sweet rice and maybe the in-season sweet mango was what was missing to complete this dish. Overall: This was a great restaurant with some interesting food I don't see often, so I enjoyed it and would recommend giving it a try.
Being Asian and having lived a good part of my life out in Asia, it is good to see authentic Asian eateries around. On my first visit, I had the Khao Pie Sen, homemade rice noodles in soup. This was perfect for the rainy summer day when I wanted to have a healthier “less oily” choice. The broth was done just right, with generous amounts of thick chicken slices. On my next visit, I decided to try out the ever-popular pork belly laab. Being very familiar with the dish as I have cooked it many times myself before, I was a little underwhelmed. The flavours were weak, unlike how it should actually be - sour, with a stronger fish sauce taste and a dash of spice. It comes with rice, and though I am not a big portion rice eater, the rice portion served here was miserably small. I would have had to order another bowl of rice just to finish the remaining pork (not like it was a big portion of pork). I also had the side of sausage, which I felt was alright but overpriced for what it is. I might come back next time to try the Kapoon Nam Gai. Overall, if you are looking for authentic Laotian food, this place will not disappoint.
I think this restaurant was overrated. Nothing impressive nor bad. It was a self service type of restaurant. Wings and lemongrass beef jerky were good. They were flavorful from spices. Curry ribs had the dried part and juicy part. Larb rice bowl was purely fat and lack of lime taste. Papaya salad, coconut curry ramen, and yellow curry chicken were ok (the curry was the soupy watery type for both curry dishes)
Awesome place to share a meal with friends. Smaller than expected but what it lacks in size, it makes up in bite. It is a tapas style eatery with communal seating. The food is as good as the pics. The only cons I would say is the place is easy to miss on Colonial, the parking is either on the street or in their one way section and the weirdness of eating sticky rice out of a plastic bag. Besides that, The place is great choice to taste Lao street food.
So I'm Filipino and my wife and her family are Lao. We long anticipated the opening of this restaurant as we're Disney pass holders and swing by Dim Sum, Pho, Korean, and Boiling Crawfish on every visit to O-Town. Well now we have a new place to add to our rotation! Very reasonably priced, great casual "picnic/family style" layout in true Lao community fashion. Service is great w a smile and compliment, and the food is true legit Laotian! What a relief! Hard to pull off authentic Laos food, unless of course, your whole kitchen staff and owners are Laotian. Wash your hands and eat w your fingers legit! Our favorites: - Larb gai - chicken wings BBQ (better than home made-don't tell mom) - sin Hang - tamahung - tamactua Or pretty much anything on the menu, really. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars = when we ask for "Loa Spicy", it doesn't mean Thai spicy. We want it PET PET - like crying, sweating, running to the rest room spicy - like we do at home. We get it, too spicy is not for everyone. Keep up the great work!!
I love Lao food. I like the papaya salad here. They used to make it really delicious with the black crab flavor but the last time I came, it doesn't have that flavor anymore. Bummer. I love their chicken noodle soup with coconut milk. That's my favorite cuisine there now. My whole family used to like their chicken wings but the flavor has changed since the last few times we came.
This was my first time having Lao food and visiting Orlando so, I was pretty excited to try out this spot after seeing this in the Michelin Guide. After looking through the menu we ended up having the Khao Piek Sen, Yellow Curry Chicken, Pork Tapioca Dumplings and Mango Sticky Rice. The atmosphere was pretty casual and more of a self serve area. The staff was pretty friendly. Overall, I would recommend coming here if you're looking into trying something new.
Cute place, total vibe. Beef jerky was 5 stars this was stellar! Khao Noodle 2 stars, noodles were amazing otherwise just okay Curry coconut Noodle 3 stars, this was okay, thought it would be a bit more flavorful Great service staff was very nice
Very nice atmosphere and service. The Curry Ribs were really juicy and flavorful! The Kapoon Nam Gai soup was spicy and I liked that the only thing is that they put big chunks of ginger, not just one but like 5 big pieces, they also put in it leaves that weren’t chewable nor edible. The Milk tea was really helpful for spicy, it tasted fine. The Laab Rice dish taste nice, but had a lot of jalapeños, so if you want to eat more jalapeño than the actual meat then order it. The Khao Piek Sen soup was great, the broth, noodles and veggies inside were really good!
Tried this place out - casual, no frills, dining. Good food and relaxed atmosphere. We tried the coconut curry ramen, lemongrass beef jerky and laab (pork belly) with sticky rice. The presentation of the food is nonexistent but the flavour/ taste more than makes up for it. Everything was flavourful and tasted very hearty. I found the pork belly too salty for my liking and would have liked it to be less salty about 35-40% (however that is my personal preference). The beef jerky was quite good, aromatics were good and was tender despite it looking not so. The coconut curry ramen was tasty as well, flavour on the milder side but that is the way i like it. From a quantity perspective, might not be filling if that is the only item you order (only comes w 2 shrimp, some mushrooms and half a soft boiled egg… egg was perfectly cooked). Overall, enjoyed the meal- a good casual option and satisfied my asian food craving.
I’ve been coming here for about six years. The portions especially the sticky rice has decreased significantly but that’s to be expected. The quality of the food still tastes great. Must try the mango sticky rice! the food is cheap and shareable so make sure to get multiple items!! parking is easy and free which is amazing!!
We were so excited to try this restaurant and got hyped up by the photos and their social media but the food was mid. The LAAB chicken was too sour and was barely warm when it came out. The mini shrimp rolls were pretty good and very crispy. The meatballs lacked flavor and were very gummy. We didn’t eat them. The coconut curry ramen was pretty good but was more sweet than savory. The coffee was ok but tasted commercial if that makes sense. The service was great but we weren’t satisfied with our meals.
I tried this place with a friend because I was curious to try Laos food, and it was rated pretty well. I tried the squid on a stick, curry ribs, jeow bong chicken bao, and pandan waffle with coconut gelato. My friend tried the sticky street wings, and crispy rice lettuce wraps. Honestly, the only thing worth going back for is the curry ribs. They were tender and fell off of the bone, and had delicious cartilage. The flavor was really good! They squid on the stick wasn’t as good as fried squid that I’ve tried at other places. It was difficult to eat, and the breading just didn’t seem to go well with the squid. All of the vegetables in the bao masked the flavor of the chicken, and there was just too much cilantro. The sticky street wings were disgusting. My friend couldn’t eat it, so she gave them to me, but they made me want to vomit because the flavor was so bad. The sauce was gross. I didn’t try the lettuce wraps. The pandan waffle had a nice flavor, but it was supposed to come with coconut gelato. Instead it came with vanilla ice cream. What a disappointment. The restaurant is pretty small, and so is the parking lot. The chairs are awful. They are backless bar stools, which hurt your back because there’s no support, and there’s nowhere to hang your bag. Overall, I was disappointed and would only come back if I was craving the ribs.
Cute place love the overall vibe of it, i ordered the 2nd soup on the menu and the meatball appetizer. The soup had a real clean taste to it, the meatballs were a little flavorless except for the sauce on the outside of it. My friend ordered the coconut curry soup i only tried the broth, and the broth was very flavorful. While i probably wouldn’t visit this one again, if i did I would try the coconut curry soup.
I’ve popped into Sticky Rice a few times over the years and always loved the coconut curry ramen, but when I ordered my meal during my most recent visit, the woman working the front desk was very rude to me when I asked about switching out wheat noodles for rice ones due to a gluten allergy, which now has me concerned about returning. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re someone who needs to feel confident about allergen safety (or are someone who is looking for a positive customer service experience).
The food was very good and something different from the usual Asian spots, which we really enjoyed. The flavors were great and the menu felt unique. However, the customer service was disappointing. The young lady at the register was not welcoming at all , no smile, not very informative, and it felt like she was annoyed that customers walked in. It made the experience less enjoyable than it should have been. Good food, but customer service matters just as much. A simple smile and a more friendly attitude would make a big difference and would easily make this a 5-star experience.
I want Lao Sticky Rice to be good so badly. The decor is cozy, murals coat the walls inside, and you're greeted with the smell of fish sauce and meat cooking. The vibe: immaculate street food. 🌸 Unfortunately I ate here once before and was told the ramen was vegetarian. This time, however, I was told all their soups have chicken broth. Vegetarian options were limited and felt like an afterthought. Coffee was good though! 2/5
Maybe it’s just me growing up in a Laotian household and community but the food was so salty and unbearable in flavors. I felt bad for bringing my friends to enjoy laos food and I had to explain to them this isn’t normal. I had never been there and thought about it for months. It wasn’t all bad, we did Like the ribs and the larb was good. Meatballs, eggrolls, chicken wings were pretty bad, just too strong in seasonings and salt levels. The atmosphere was cool and I loved the decor, the seating is odd for me since I’m tall but again just disappointed on how the food tasted. Maybe I’ll give it another shot in the future.
We have heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it because of the hype we’ve heard. Unfortunately we just did not understand the hype. The menu is pretty small, the items we ordered (pork spring roll, lettuce wraps, coconut curry) were just not very flavorful (especially compared to others restaurants in this area). The sitting area and the restaurant itself is a cool atmosphere though! We did get their shrimp chips and those were good 👍🏼. We will try it again eventually but this visit was disappointing.
I really wanted to like Sticky Rice, but overall I was extremely unimpressed. We ordered four items from the menu. The crispy rice was easily the best thing we had and the only dish I’d consider ordering again. The chicken wings and bao buns were decent, but nothing memorable. Unfortunately, the meatballs were genuinely awful, probably one of the worst things I’ve eaten in a long time. Both my friend and I had to spit them out. They didn’t taste like beef at all, and the flavor overall was just off and unpleasant. Between the strange taste and lack of seasoning, they were completely inedible. Overall, the experience was a negative one and not somewhere I’d choose to return to.
Mixed experience overall. The chicken wings were fresh and flavorful, and the waffle with coconut ice cream was really enjoyable. The bao wasn't my favorite, as the flavors didn't quite come together. The ribs also didn't seem very fresh and had a lingering odor. There are some strong items on the menu, but consistency could be improved
