My quick day trip to Portland felt complete with donuts from Voodoo donuts. I got three and as you can see I was eager to eat them that I chopped into the maple bacon donut as soon as I was finished checking out. I got cinnamon sugar, churro cheesecake and maple bacon and they were ALL good but maple bacon was my favorite honestly. I got to chat with a mom picking up an order for her son's birthday and decided to do donuts instead of cake, I love having conversations where people describes their unconventional values. She said her son loves donuts so she is going to get him what he wants for his special day. There was a line but it moved fairly quick. I would definitely revisit Voodoo donuts again!
Voodoo is 100% a must-stop if you’re in Portland and trying to hit all the “you have to do it at least once” spots. We went and I’m glad we experienced it. The donuts are no joke ... really... they’re basically full meals. Super creative, super sweet, and definitely filling. One will probably hold you over for the whole day. Potentially 2 people. There was a line, but it moved fast, and the whole vibe outside with the pink boxes and the neon sign just makes it fun. It’s touristy for sure, but in a good way. You kind of have to try it once just to say you did. Grab a donut (or two if you’re brave), take the picture, and check it off your list. We did and we’d do it again.
I went to the downtown Voo Doo Donut location and was happily greeted by worker Kiki and she was very knowledgeable and friendly, helping me with the various selections of donuts! Kiki helped me choose donuts, that were delicious and outside my usual comfort zone! It was amazing and my co workers were delighted with the great selection of donuts too! This was only my 3rd time visiting Portland and this was a highlight for me and my business associates! Thank you, Kiki!!
The Vegan Elvis doughnut was really good! They have a security guard posted at the door so I felt safe. There are interesting things mounted on the walls. I enjoyed taking in the vibes while munching on my Elvis doughnut.
Voodoo Doughnut is a must-visit for anyone who loves unique and specialty donuts! Each one is fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly crafted, turning every bite into a little moment of joy. The shop has such a fun and quirky vibe that makes it feel like more than just a stop for sweets — it’s an experience. Yes, the line can get long, but it moves surprisingly fast, and the anticipation just makes the donuts taste even better. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this spot is a fun, delicious, and Instagram-worthy stop. 🍩
I've wanted to go here for so long and I finally made it and I am so happy I did. Such a cute and fun doughnut shop. The staff was super friendly and I just loved every minute of it.
Overdue review. Voodoo Donuts is listed as one of Portlands must-dos because the donuts 🍩 are from the hometown of “The Simpsons’” Matt Groening. Not sure if they were inspired or were an inspiration. I was curious to see or try the “Homer” donut, the iconic cartoon donut with the pink frosting. When I stumbled across this shop - it turned out to be one of the most memorable places I visited in a long line of places because of the staff. Summing up Portland, it’s like a dream of the 90s that has decayed and atrophied. There is a severe homelessness and drug problem in the downtown. So I was walking quickly through this area and a homeless blonde woman in her late 20s - 30s approached. “Ma’am, ma’am?,” she inquired as I walked by. I told her, sorry but I didn’t have anything on me. She said,” I don’t want your money. I just want a donut. Can you please help me just get a donut?” This was a simple and honest request and she seemed genuinely hungry - ok, so I went in the long queue with the intention of getting her a donut alongside this famous pink “Homer” donut. There was an actual security guard at the velvet line. The guard stood there all day but was trying to help her. She didn’t have her shoelaces tied so he was pointing to her shoes. To tie them. He retied his own to show her. She had stuff in her hair and he brushed his own hair off to show her where there were leaves. He was even smiling to try to cheer her up, to make it fun. She was very lost, looking much older than she really was - you could tell she must have been beautiful once. When I finally got into the store I told the clerk we wanted to purchase a donut for this homeless lady. The bakery clerk stopped everything and looked outside quickly. She even exclaimed “Oh I know her! I know what she likes.” Then she proceeded to find the exact donut and we purchased them. The lady stood outside at the door waiting, I gave her the donut as I exited and she was finally happy. There was really no more anyone could do for her. So, kudos to the Voodoo Doughnut staff showing us humanity where it was much needed. Someone went home with a full belly on that night. I hope people are able to support Voodoo Donuts and maybe pay it forward. Maybe it doesn’t even have to be a homeless person to pay for but just someone behind you. We can keep going because it’s good for the soul. These are great donuts, these are great staff. This was the most memorable donut shop experience I’ve ever had.
The original. A must stop. There can be a line but its well organized and prompt. Once inside you have an amazing choice of donuts you will find no where else. A must visit if in Portland Oregon.
Yes, I know the hype. You can try to come a little late at night (I came around 8 pm) and the line up wasn’t that crazy. They have lots of unique choices for donuts (which is intriguing). At the end I chose the classic chocolate. I think it was the best way to decide if they met the standard. It was not disappointing. The dough is a little crispy outside and soft inside. The chocolate is mixed sweet & savoury. Really good stuff!
Really fun spot and a Portland classic. The donuts are unique and taste great, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Be prepared to wait though, the line usually wraps around the building, especially at night and on weekends. Once you get inside, the neat vibe and variety of flavors make the wait worth it.
Hard to choose just one among so many great options! We made sure to burn some calories to offset the glorious donuts ingested :)
Love the artwork in here. The donuts are huge and delicious with a good variety to choose from. They even have some vegan donuts. The service was great, friendly and fast. I'd recommend this place for some yummy donuts. It's down the street from the Colorado River also, a short walk. You can pick up some donuts and eat them on the river.
Banana Cream Pie Doughnut: Voodoo Doughnut has been on my list of gourmet doughnut shops to visit for years. I believe it now qualifies as a chain, but the original location was founded by Portlanders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon in 2003. I wanted to try more doughnuts than I had room in my stomach for, so I prioritized my selection based on what I thought was most exclusive to Voodoo Doughnut and my tastes. The Banana Cream Pie is a bismark doughnut, which is a subset of yeast/raised doughnuts that do not have a hole in the center and are typically filled with cream or fruit. This doughnut has a bit of both as it has banana Bavarian cream in the center. The top is coated in a thick layer of deliciously sweet vanilla frosting with a sprinkling of cinnamon and a crisp banana chip. Both the cinnamon and chip were mostly for looks and did not impact the overall flavor. The body of the doughnut was perfect. Pleasantly chewy, thick, and hints of butter in the dough. It's the filling that makes or breaks this particular doughnut though. Flavor was a mild banana that was not overpowering or too artificial. I was instantly reminded of a good banana pudding. Voodoo packed plenty of it in there and it resulted in a rather hefty pastry. Easily the best and most unique doughnut I got on this visit. It drives me bananas that I can't get one in MKE. Doughboy approved 😋 Doughboy_Food_Reviews
Voodoo Doughnut is a popular, Portland-based doughnut shop known for its creative and unconventional doughnut flavors and designs. They offer a wide variety of doughnuts, including both classic and unique options like the "Voodoo Doll" doughnut, a chocolate doughnut with raspberry filling and a pretzel stake. The shop has gained a cult following and expanded to multiple locations, including Universal CityWalk in both Orlando and Hollywood. They offer custom doughnut options for weddings and events, showcasing their commitment to unique and memorable experiences, according to their website. This Canadian loves the weirdness 😆
This was our first time at Voodoo donuts and it was awesome! They have a great variety of options to choose from and some have really unique flavors. I had never had a mango or grape donut before, and was surprised by how tasty they were! Our favorites were the Oregon cream and the maple cream! Gotta check them out if you haven’t yet! So good!
Came here mid day during the week and there was a short line that moved fairly quickly.. cool area, good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Security only lets a few people into the actual store at a time. Limited street parking with meters, I suggest looking at the menu while standing in line so you’re ready to go once you get inside, funny donuts but absolutely delicious. Would recommend and return.
This place is loud and quirky and very pink. Was recommended by our car hire lady in San Fran as a Portland must. The doughnut choices were incredible, and as we were from the UK, I've never been so taken in by such wonderful and amazing staff as here. Oh yeah, this is a defo recommendation.
They have large selection of donuts especially with fruits flavours i.e. grapes, mango, banana, apple blueberry and vegan options too. Their donut size are big & price is affordable. There would be long line always to get in but it is truly worth it. They don't have dine in space & all take outs only.
Really cool doughnut parlor, so many options for doughnuts, decent price for quality of doughnuts, love the decorations and the merchandise, thank you for having many options on refrigerated beverages. I bought a Strawberry Shortcake stuffed doughnut with pink and white hundreds of thousands and a cold can of mocha iced coffee for 9 bucks. Definitely coming back!
Staff was so nice and helpful. First time there and really enjoyed the donuts. We went early and had to wait outside as they did not have security there at the time so they just let in 2 people at a time as they had two people to help take orders. It was no issue. Donuts were amazing! Check out the videos of me trying them.
A Mecca of donuts in the country and was a top priority when I came to Portland. Anything under a 5 is probably some locals bias but this place was worth the hype. Really eccentric place in old town. The Chuckles, the School Daze and the Memphis mafia blew us away. Great flavor and perfectly cooked. You have to stop by when in town.
Right now we're Portland tourists and not ashamed to lean into that, so of course we hit up the original Voodoo Doughnut location. The bright pink building is hard to miss, and that's said appreciatively. As others have mentioned, you will wait outside and be admitted a few people at a time by the security guard. It's probably a good thing because a) you can check out the menu beforehand and b) this funky little piece of Portland has a huge reputation and a compact interior. It's nice to have room to stand and watch a turn or two of the actual doughnuts before deciding. We got the Voodoo Doll, Bacon Maple Bar and Romeo Raspberry. All were super-fresh and HUGE. Some people grouse that these are "too sweet," and then describe how they bought heavily frosted or decorated varieties. What did you expect from something thickly glazed and gushing with fruity or creamy filling? :) You can always get yeast rings or peel off some toppings or fillings to customize to your liking. The staff was so kind to us, even though who knows how many excited newbs they had already dealt with since opening that morning. Not an easy task, but they helped make this highly anticipated visit a fun experience. A sweet spot, for sure!
While in town, I made a special trip to Voodoo as I wanted the experience. The staff was friendly, the doughnuts were delicious, and I found the items to be priced accordingly. Fun place and good treats!
Voodoo Doughnut is more than just a doughnut shop — it’s a full-blown experience. Nestled in the heart of Portland, this quirky, pink-fronted institution lives up to its legendary status with wildly inventive flavors, bold presentation, and an unapologetically fun vibe. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with a dizzying display of doughnuts topped with everything from cereal to bacon, and even bubble gum. The iconic Voodoo Doll doughnut, filled with raspberry jelly and stabbed with a pretzel stick, is not only Instagram-worthy but also surprisingly delicious. Maple Bacon Bar? A perfect blend of sweet and savory. The Old Dirty Bastard, covered in chocolate frosting, crushed Oreos, and peanut butter drizzle, is a decadent dream. The menu is vast, creative, and sometimes hilariously irreverent. Whether you’re a classic glazed fan or someone chasing the wildest flavors imaginable, there’s something here to satisfy every craving. Lines can get long, especially on weekends, but they move quickly and are well worth the wait. The staff keeps the energy high with friendly, upbeat service. In short, Voodoo Doughnut is a must-visit whether you’re a local or a first-time visitor to Portland. It’s not just a place to grab a snack — it’s a sugary, unforgettable piece of Portland culture.
Voodoo donuts is an experience as much as the donuts. The donuts are big and wild and good. My buddy had never been. He really liked the donuts. I got my fav the maple bacon bar. How can you go wrong with bacon on a donut. Yuuumm. We also got the oh captain my captain. Yes frosted and covered in captain crunch. The pop tart was also really good.
This location is truly a gem in Portland. And you can see why, they do Donuts differently and make the whole shopping experience different. Amazing friendly staff, only the security guard was rude for whatever reason. And on top - their Donuts are delicious. Don't go there, if you are on a Diet.
Friends recommended we try this place while in Portland, so we did. It’s clearly a popular donut shop; there’s usually a line around the building, and the security guard only lets in a certain number of people at a time. Once inside, you’ll find plenty of options, and the employees are quick and efficient at taking and packing orders. If you get the chance, try the mango tango donut, it’s my favorite.
Quick stop to Portland, Oregon and couldn't leave without going to original location of Voodoo Doughnuts. I've been wanting to go here since I saw it on TV a long long time ago on the Food Network or Travel Channel when they said they've even done weddings there before Nowadays post covid I doubt they do weddings still. Esp. since they had security there limiting amount of people that go in. He was not friendly and didn't seem to speak English when we were asking him questions. I highly recommend visiting the original location that's been around 2003. It is small inside but so much to look at. I wish I didn't feel like I had to rush to take it all in. I really enjoyed the homer and special they had, it was a strawberry cheesecake or something. I loved the strawberry filling on the inside. The donuts were definitely a little sweeter than I'm used to. Overall, a good experience. Doughnuts and merch were reasonably priced. Cricket who helped me was awesome. She was super helpful in helping me narrow down my selection. I think it's one of those places you have to visit at least once. I had been to the location by Universal Studios in California. That location didn't have the same fun vibe as here.
It's a pretty good place to get a donut downtown! They are a couple blocks up from the waterfront and in a very convenient location. They are all unique which I appreciate, and they are not cakey and more dense, which is very nice. They have a really good variety and I see why they are so well known.
Staffs are very energetic and attentive. They're the best. Also, the coffee in the shop was great,! Only one thing I want to see in the future is, eat in space. It was chilly outside, so it had been better if there was a space to enjoy hot coffee and the donut. Apple fritter is my rec.
I was told this was a "must do" while in Portland. They were absolutely correct! Cool building. A line waiting for entrance, but it moved quickly and security was on site to navigate entry. Atmosphere received a 4 because I had to walk through an area with a lot of homeless residents to get to the entrance. The donuts were fabulous! Highly recommend the bacon maple bar (trust me) and the Voodoo doll! Very pleasant and efficient staff.
Voodoo Doughnut Review Summary • Vibe: Retro/nostalgic exterior; intimate, high-security interior (2-person limit). • Service: Handcrafted, made-to-order donuts. • Quality: Phenomenal food and excellent coffee. • Price: Premium/pricey. • Routine: Weekly visits on Fridays or Saturdays. They do military discounts just show your VA card DD 214
This has become a must stop anytime we are in Portland. We got very lucky today as the line was basically nonexistent, probably because it was around noon. Last time we came the line was about 20 minutes but still well worth it. Kids love the variety and the appearance of all the different donuts. The Old Dirty Bastard was a hit with my oldest, and my youngest enjoyed her Shark Bite. Best one for me everytime is the banana cream! To be honest, the custard filled maple isn’t much better than what I get at Roseaurs. Still very good but the more unique and original ones are the best hits.
Absolutely delicious. I had only tried the one in Austin before and didn’t understand why people loved them so much. The donuts were good but not wow. The one in Portland changed that. I had the captain crunch one and loved everything from the texture to the flavors and it was huge. Definitely worth the wait in line.
So far I have ordered the Diablos Rex and the Voodoo Doll, the Rex costed $3.25 and the Voodoo Doll close to $5. The price on these doughnuts is rather high, but you do get what you pay for. The doughnuts are large and filling. Expect a large line if you come here anytime during the afternoon, or late at night. You might end up waiting up to 30 minutes for your doughnuts.
It may be touristy, but this is a true delight, and if you are in portland, going to the original voodoo donuts is a worthwhile experience. The donuts are genuinely fantastic, ranging from the relatively ordinary, if luxurious, to the truly bizarre and outlandish. The shop glows a bright flamingo pink, making it distinctive from all directions, especially at night. I was expecting a block spanning line when I went here, like I often saw at the most popular touristy restaurants in New York, but because I came at 7:00 a.m., there was almost no one here. In fact, I was the first person in the shop for the day other than the person working there, and he had to unlock the doors to let me inside. The interior is kitschy in the most wonderful way, a mid-century pastiche of voodoo and New Orleans iconography. The atmosphere is zany, and the colors are bright, and the donuts are indulgently delicious. I personally devoured the turtle cheesecake donut, eating it throughout the rest of the day in Portland.
I was just walking through the city and stumbled upon this interesting little shop. I loved my old fashioned and the blueberry donut. I got my husband a pop tart donut and he said he really liked it as well. I’m pretty basic with my donut selection, but picky about quality and it was a good donut! Not greasy or oily or hard. Nice density, nice glaze, great softness. I’d recommend this spot to tourists for sure.
This place was worth waiting in a hot line for. They limit the number of people going inside so that they can make their selections and purchases. The selection of donuts was amazing but the taste was out of this world. I got the Grape Ape, Mango Tango, and the voodoo doll. The last of the three was a vegan donut and it was delicious. The fruit flavor on the other two was excellent.
Surprisingly affordable donuts - I really thought they’d jack up the prices being such a tourist attraction. Good for them for keeping it reasonable. The featured donut was a giant maple glazed one with cinnamon toast church on top. Incredible. And their coffee was half-decent too! The whole stand out in cold rain in line cuz the indoor space inside is a bit annoying but the staff were all super friendly to make up for it.
This place is fun. We had to wait in line for about 10 minutes to get in since they were only letting a few people in at a time, but it was worth the wait. When you get in you’re able to select from a variety of donuts. They have lots of fun designs, and lots of fun flavors. We ended up getting about a dozen different kind of donuts. The apple fritter was my favorite and there was a mango doughnut that was very good. The lady at the counter was very helpful and very patient with us and allow us to take our time to select all of the donuts that we wanted. The donuts travel well as we took them to Seattle to enjoy the next day.
I really wanted to write this review because of how kind and thoughtful the staff were. On the morning of 30th Sep we had just grabbed a coffee at Stumptown and were on our way to Voodoo Doughnut. As we were crossing the street, a man started following us pretty closely, and we quickly tried to get inside the shop. One of the employees stepped out right at that moment and held the door wide open for us, which made us feel safe and helped us avoid what could have been an uncomfortable situation. I don’t know if the staff realized what was happening, but their simple act of kindness meant a lot to us. Thank you so much for looking out for your customers!
Best-tasting location across four states! We've enjoyed Voodoo in California, Washington, Oregon, and two locations in Colorado, but this one served the best donuts with the most amazing frosting! This was our second visit, and we devoured every bite with gusto. Even the carnivore among us loved the vegan donuts. Thank you, Portland!
We adore Voodoo Doughnut! Their quirky, creative donuts are fun and delicious, with unique flavors and generous portions that make every visit special. Friendly staff, great vegan choices, and bold toppings keep us coming back. It’s a must-try treat in Boulder — perfect for a sweet, memorable snack!
Wonderful local donut joint. The quality matches the hype. They have classic donuts to voodoo unique ones. We tried a few cake donuts: chocolate ring, chocolate cake, giving donut, powdered sugar cake. All of them were fresh and delicious. The only downside is that there will be a line when you come. Expectations are met!
It has been ten years since I visited Voodoo shop. Last week I had a chance to drop by Voodoo donuts at Portland again. I was surprised to see the guard at the door. There was no waiting line. There were only two people in front of us inside the store. This is very different than my last visit when the line lasted outside the store. Maybe because this time it was a winter week day? The decorations is as cool as cucumber. Excellent place to take pictures. The color combination is very bold but somehow works in a funky way. The staff was very nice and friendly. We got key chain, a few special donuts ($2-4 each) and a bag of coffee beans ($15). The donut is as delicious as I remembered. My chocolate coconut donut is yummy. I like its donut texture is kind of between cakey and fluffy. The voodoo Man donut is cute. I just wish it has more jelly fillings because only half of the body has jelly.
I stopped by for a few donuts on my way to the Lan Su Chinese Garden and had a good experience. I was not busy on a Tuesday morning, and I ordered a maple bar, apple fritter, Mango Tango, and Diablos Rex. Voodoo has a large selection of classic donuts such as raised glazed and buttermilk bars, and vegen options. It is famous for its unique doughnuts such as Grape Ape, Bacon Maple Bar, Voodoo Doll, and much more. The maple bar was big and really sweet. The Mango Tango had a interesting taste with the Tang on top. The Diablos Rex is a devil food donut with chocolate frosting with chips on the middle and had a nice taste to it. Located on SW 3rd, just off of Burnside with limited street parking in downtown Portland. A nice place to stop for donuts that are big, really sweet, and unique with a classic weird Portland vibe.
🍩: Donuts vary due to the abundant variety, which is a good thing I guess. 🤡: Service wasn't bad. 🏰: Atmosphere, enter if you dare! Just be cautious about bringing your children into this establishment as they have some "Adult themed" donuts! My family likes this place and that's what matters! 💕
it was a definite must-visit for you. Inside its cozy, compact space, there's plenty to admire. You especially enjoyed their strawberry cheesecake , churro doughnut voodoo doughnuts etc , really loving the strawberry filling inside. The donuts were a bit sweeter than your usual preference, but overall, you had a good experience, and found both the doughnuts and merchandise to be reasonably priced. You think it's one of those spots you should check out at least once. this one felt more authentic and hit the spot for you, thanks in part to helpful staff like Cricket, who assisted you nicely in picking out your treats.
This is a must stop when in Portland! I was told it is the original location, I didn't verify this. The donuts are pretty decent. Fun nostalgic shop. Staff is friendly! A line is formed outside and security let's you in to the shop! There is entertainment outside of the shop. Fun place check it out!
Fun place to visit. Lots of different kinds of doughnuts. Honestly not the best doughnuts IMO but I am very happy to have tried them while in Portland. It’s worth the experience!
I bought just one donuts but it was so big and I couldn't even finish it on my own. The shop is close to the water front park so I brought it to the river and had it while walking along the park. The exterior of the shop is pink and there is a big area outside the shop where people can enjoy the food. There is a security guard standing outside the shop controlling how many people can enter the shop so it won't get to crowded inside. There are many donuts flavor. See the photo. I've donuts is a little expensive $4.5 but it's worth is. Think it as a meal.
You have to visit Voodoo Doughnut when you are in Portland. It's an institution. The doughnuts are good and creative and there is a big variety. The store itself has some fun stained glass windows, but otherwise is nothing special. This time I tried the Portland Cream (its just a Boston cream, but in Portland) and a Memphis Mafia (an apple fritter with peanut butter, chocolate frosting and chocolate chips). Both tasted great, and the fritter was unique, but the base doughnuts underneath weren't any better than you can find at other good doughnut places. When we went it was busy enough we had to wait outside for a few minutes before we could go inside, but there was only a single worker on the registers. Good doughnuts, definitely worth checking out if you are visiting Portland, just don't go in expecting a life changing experience.
We have one where we are from but never had tried it and only did because they are from Portland initially. We came before 8am to no line and the front doors were locked until a customer from inside came out to grant us entrance. Workers were just there, did their job and nothing more. The donuts were just donuts, cool designs and concepts, not pricey, still worth trying or grabbing in a pinch for something sweet because they have really early and late hours. Coffee options are not good here, had to go somewhere else
The security guard and cashier were great, and the cashier was super friendly. The inside atmosphere was cool, and I LOVE that they have vegan options. However, there's no place to sit and enjoy your donut. So, I opted to take mine to go. They put the apple fritter (has no apple filling or cinnamon taste) and voodo doll donuts in a bag without any protection, so by the time I walked back to my hotel, a good portion of the chocolate had rubbed off, and the design was messed up on the voodoo doll donut. It looked like a 'nailed-it' failed attempt, which was disappointing, but the donut still tasted good. Seeing it after taking a bite off a leg and an arm made me laugh. See the pictures. It's kind of funny.
Visiting the flagship Voodoo Doughnut in Portland is definitely something to check off the list if you’re in town. The outside is quirky and colorful, setting the tone for what’s inside—tons of eccentric art, funky details, and a fun, offbeat vibe that captures the spirit of Portland. The rotating carousel cases that display the doughnuts are a cool touch and add to the experience. The selection is wild and playful—definitely not your average donut shop. You’ll find everything from cereal-topped creations to bacon-maple bars. That said, while the presentation and variety are top-notch, the doughnuts themselves were just okay. Fun to look at, sure, but the actual dough and flavor didn’t stand out much beyond the novelty. It’s more about the experience than the pastry. The donut is a donut. Worth noting: the surrounding area in downtown Portland can feel a bit rough, especially depending on the time of day. There are quite a few homeless individuals and panhandlers around, so it’s best to stay aware of your surroundings and not stray too far. In short, Voodoo is a fun stop—iconic, weird, and a little over-the-top in the best way. Just don’t expect life-changing donuts.
Went down and picked up a variety of doughnuts for our group and we sampled them all. The bacon maple is to die for....the Bavarian cream was delicious and the chocolate icing was rich and thick. Some of the flavors are a bit too much, but overall a good doughnut...and the service was most excellent!
Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, Oregon, is a must-visit spot for anyone seeking a unique and indulgent treat. The shop boasts an impressive variety of doughnuts, including vegan options, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Be prepared for a caloric indulgence, as these doughnuts are generously sized and richly topped. After enjoying just one, you’ll likely feel satisfyingly full. The eclectic and quirky atmosphere of the shop adds to the overall experience, making it a cool place to stop by when in Portland. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, trying Voodoo Doughnut at least once is a delightful adventure worth undertaking.
Being from Orlando, I’ve had my fair share of Voodoo Doughnut at the Universal Studios location. But since Portland is where it all began, I had to make the pilgrimage. The doughnuts were just as good as back home, but the Portland shop definitely offered a bigger variety. There’s something extra fun about enjoying them at the original spot—it makes the experience feel a little more iconic.
Great donuts. Love the history and decoration. Wish it was in a better location. Parking is horrible and safety was a concern. There is a "security" guard at the door. It's not the fault of the shop it's just Portland's homeless population can be tense at times. The donuts are fabulous!!!
Before you step into that long line, ask yourself: Is it really worth it? I wish I had. The experience didn’t live up to the hype for me. The doughnuts were more about novelty than flavor, fun to look at, but not especially tasty. It’s one of those “try once for the photo” spots, but I wouldn’t go back. Just saying.
I’m sad and disappointed cuz we drove all the way there from Gresham and our maple cream doughnut was empty. But we didn’t realize till we got back. I’m lowkey pretty mad about it. But the maple flavour was good. But ordered the cream and got no cream??
Came here after high reviews and was a little let down. Tried 4 different donuts, didn’t think they were that good? If there’s no line, worth it. Would recommend getting a filled donut instead of one with just topping. Had better donuts elsewhere (and I am a bit of a connoisseur of donuts) cute vibe though.
The voodoo doll donut still seems to be the best in Portland. It was fun to cut up some of the varieties and sharing them but we found them very overpriced. We also don't understand why the line up has to take so long instead of having more than 1 cashier. We were approached by homeless people asking for things just like other members of our family have many years ago. Some people with kids also had the sad experience of having to leave the line after they almost reached the end just because of no security in the area and seeing a confrontation between a driver and pedestrian. Overall these donuts are nowhere as good as some good ones in Vancouver Canada
OMG, I was super excited to try their famous donuts. I had a good experience, but not as magical as I expected. Gotta admit, the shop has a unique vibe, definitely a tourist trap. I tried the bacon maple bar and the Portland cream; the first one was interesting, but the second felt a bit heavy. The donuts are big and sweet, but not the best I’ve ever had. The price is fair for the size, but the quality didn’t really blow me away.
Went here bc it’s the iconic place for donuts. We were lucky and the line was not very long, only too about 5-7min before we got in. They have a large variety of options…all sweeter than the next. They are baking throughout the day so the donuts are fresh. For us they are just ok, mostly popular bc of options and name. Taste wise they are too sweet and have a bit of an oil taste. If in Portland I guess you should try but there are other (better) options as well.
Let’s be honest people. The donuts have cool colors but flavor wise they are mediocre. The building is cool and the service is friendly. But all these reviews saying this is “a must” are so overblown it’s ridiculous. If you like unique spots this is cool to see but there’s no reason to be overblown about the actual product. I would rather have a horrible atmosphere and amazing food than the other way around. There was literally no line and I still felt like it was just okay.
We came here on a Wednesday night in early August. We were vacationing in the area and I had read somewhere that if you’re visiting Portland you have to try these donuts so we added it to our itinerary. It was after 9p when we arrived and there was a line. It wasn’t a very long line, it was just very slow moving. After about 15 minutes I almost was going to leave because I really am not a donut person but we didn’t have other plans so we stayed. Other people gave up and left. I would say we waited 30-40 minutes and we got a glazed cake donut and a chocolate glazed donut. They were ok. I know the appeal is the other more sugary and themed donuts but that’s too much sugar for me. I am fairly certain that we waited so long to order because people just couldn’t decide what they wanted and/or they were ordering dozens at a time. We got on the website while we waited and looked up the flavors and picked them out long before we got to the window. The staff member taking orders was friendly and he actually was pretty quick. It might be a good idea to print out a scannable QR code and post it on the wall where the line forms so the indecisive ones can have time to look it over their choices before they get to the window. Just an idea.
Well, the line moved quickly, there were three regiaters opened and there are menues eveywhere so by the time you a tually make it there you know what you want. The decor was nice, it is an iconic place but the donuts were just that, they were good but nothing out of the ordinary in flavor. I was expecting more. I guess they are counting on their decorating of the donuts to keep bringing people back.
This pot seems like a very popular doughnut spot for locals and tourists alike. We love a good doughnut, and we thought the name was interesting too. It was easy to find, with bright pink exterior and a queue outside the building, waiting to go inside. There was a staff right at the door, controlling the number of people in the inside the shop, and when and how many people can go inside. Once we were allowed inside, it was a really fun with all the bright colors. They had a huge sprinkled doughnut on the ceiling, and some memorabilia on the walls. They had some merchandise as well, for anyone who wanted more than just their doughnuts. Everything they had in there was fun, including the doughnut display. They had a cylinder case with all the doughnuts on the turning tiered tables. You can check out all the doughnuts they have available by looking at them. We decided to try Mango Tango, Grape Ape, Viscous Hibiscus, and the most famous, Voodoo Doll. Mango Tango was very sweet. And I mean, very, VERY sweet. Didn’t really taste mango, but just sugar. Grape Ape was also very sweet. Tasted like a sweet grape juice. Viscous Hibiscus was very similar to the Grape Ape, again, very sweet… Voodoo Doll was bigger and heavier than others. It had a pretzel sticking out from the middle, making it look even more like a voodoo doll. The taste? I think you can guess…sweet! LOL. It felt heavy and overly sweet, same as others. So, unfortunately for us, we couldn’t finish them between the three of us. It was a sugar overload. So, although we enjoyed visiting this iconic spot, we didn’t enjoy their doughnut as we much as we had hoped. But, I am still glad that we got to visit the Voodoo Doughnut and tried their doughnuts.
The donuts are good and the Featured Donuts are fun. The customer service experience varies SIGNIFICANTLY depending on who is cashiering. I literally will avoid patronizing this location depending on who is at their front counter 💯. **A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO: KT, CASSIDY, KYLE AND MIKI!!! ❤️
The doughnuts were okay I ordered The Homer and The M&M doughnut (I forgot the name). The M&M doughnut or whatever it's called was really good I loved it and if you come here I recommend that. But The Homer was horrible I really did not like it it tasted like the frosting or whatever on the top tasted like it was about a year old and A YEAR OLD doughnuts don't taste good. Also I don't recommend this place not only because of The Homer but because it was way too overpriced but in general the employees were really kind.
Probably the most overrated place I’ve ever been. There was a long line, so I decided to place my order online and come back when it was ready. Even that was too much effort for very little reward. Had the maple blunt, the diablos rex, the banana cream pie, and the glazed. The best by far was the glazed. The others ranged from completely forgettable to not worth eating. On the banana cream pie, the Bavarian cream and vanilla icing were much too sweet and artificial-tasting (yes, I know doughnuts are supposed to be sweet and I love myself a doughnut, but this was too much). The blunt was extremely subpar and the diablos rex just tasted like a can of Betty Crocker’s frosting. Really the glazed is the only reason why this place isn’t getting one star—it’s pretty good. For the rest, you can find far better at your local grocery store.
I had been looking forward to visiting this famous donut shop after hearing multiple recommendations, but my experience was extremely disappointing. From the moment I placed my order, the staff member taking orders was unfriendly, unwelcoming, and lacked basic customer service skills. To make matters worse, the donuts I received were not what I ordered. The receipt showed a completely different and more expensive donut (charged $4.50 for a $1.5 donut). I had ordered three donuts, but instead of properly packaging them in wax paper or a box, they were all carelessly thrown together into a single paper bag. This made it difficult to eat without them getting squished and messy. After checking other reviews later, I found out that customers ordering multiple donuts usually get them packaged in a box. Why wasn’t I given the same service? To future customers: Make sure to double-check your receipt and the contents of your order before leaving the store. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Voodoo Doughnut seriously needs to work on their customer service and order accuracy. I would not recommend this place and certainly won’t be returning.
