The Monarch Pub and Restaurant Pacific Grove Reviews
Food is amazing, almost authentic as if I’m in Britain. Great service from a gentleman that goes by Eric (Erik) and lovely scenery next to neighbor stores and gift shops.
OMG, probably the best club sandwich I've had in my life. Yum! 😋😁
Amazing stop for lunch, get out of the hustle of the touristy areas and come here!! The patio was extremely relaxing, everything felt right and perfect. Great food!!
Excellent British pub. The curry was top notch, chips done perfectly, great mushy peas and the fish fresh. This pub could've been in London. I learned why when the staff told me the older British couple at one of the tables getting very excited for Euro semis were the owners. Will go back for sure!
Lovely British pub, and the place to go for fish and chips and Guinness. Dog friendly beer garden with a nice fire pit to stay warm. Friendly and delicious, with live music many Friday nights. Burgers are tasty too!
This place is a great spot to stop by for beer and food. Indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area is greatly improved from the restaurant before, which was 17th Street Grill. The outside area is also pet friendly. Staff is very knowledgeable of the menu and beer and are extremely friendly. Food is great and the beer selection is offers a good variety. This is a must stop spot.
Came in for the weekend and saw this pub advertising in a weekend newspaper. So glad we did! We did the friend artichokes and it was crispy outside but the hearts were fully cookedcook BBC was delicious and the bangers full of flavor. I had the ploughman lunch and it was just the right amount of ingredients on a plate separately arranged which I love. I will recommend my friends to visit here and i will come again.
Best calamari we have ever had! Plus the owner's personality really added to the atmosphere. We really enjoyed it. First time there.
Awesome fish and chips! Some of the best I've ever had. I also tried ginger beer for the first time...so good! It was a fun place to eat, drink and be merry!
I've had the burger and the rueben, both have been excellent. The fish and chips looks popular, too. Ill probably try that next. I go for lunch and sit at the bar and seems to be a friendly local spot. Patio outside looks like a great place for family and friends to relax.
Great fish and chips. Indoor and outdoor dining. Service is very friendly and good. ...all that and a full bar. Don't let first appearances keep you away.
When The Meal & Service Meet At The Table Then You Know The Location Must Be The Monarch Pub. It's A Sleeper In The Last Hometown In The U.S.A = AKA "Pacific Grove" (California) The Menu Is Not Complicated Or Demanding Of Taking Out A Mortgage Or Making The Budget Strained. The Owner "Paul" Or His Right Hand Mate "Jeff" (Mgr) Won't Welcome You With Nonsense, Your Arrival Is Greeted If You Had Just Walked Into The Set Of "Cheers" The Rest Of The "Crew" Will Make Sure You Are Taken Care Of. The Bonus Features Of "THE MONARCH" Is The Outdoor Patio & The Best Part Is That Your Kiddos With Four Legs Are Completely Welcomed!!!!! Go Hungry, Leave Full & Happy!
Lots of outdoor seating. Really enjoyed the ploughmans lunch. Nice traditional pub selection of beers. Would love to see some additional taps with local craft beer. Audrey provided excellent service.
Good service. The Chicken strips are fine. The Mozzarella Sticks could be cooked longer. Nice fresh Hamburger and Steak Fries. Fun location.
Great food and service! The fish and chips were the best I've had on the west coast. We also tried the mozzarella sticks, the American club and sweet potato fries which were of great quality and taste.
Stopped by for some sandwiches on a Saturday afternoon. Food was fantastic, nice environment, live music. A must stop in Pacific Grove.
The food and drinks were delicious! Not a very extensive menu but really good! Lovely outdoor patio too
Our third time eating here, and this place doesn't disappoint. It's family friendly too. Bartender and Katie, our waitress, were so accommodating and friendly. Fish and chips is so fresh and huge; burgers are very satisfying as well.
A lovely pub to enjoy a chilled beer or a hot meal when in Pacific Grove. Not too far from the beach, you can either enjoy the beach and then go to the pub or do the reverse like I did. Had a lovely walk up and down the beach after my fish and chips and beer. Lovely patio seating with a semi enclosed deck and a fire table to keep the chill moderately at bay. Right in the heart of downtown Pacific Grove, there are plenty of shops around to look into before or after your meal. Unfortunately no photos this time of my beer and fish and chips
The Monarch is a fun place to kick back and chat or watch the footy. I like to sit in the enclosed area outdoors around the firepit. Friendly service and good food make for a lovely afternoon or a cozy evening in Pacific Grove.
I walked in the last day of my work trip and wish it was the first. Was greeted immediately after walking in asking if I'd been taken care of yet, then given a table right away. Amy gave me a menu and took my drink order while I figured out what I wanted to eat. Lee approached me next asking if I'd been helped and offered suggestions for food and answered all my questions. I had my drink before I knew what I wanted to eat! Amazing cohesiveness here, I wish I'd found this spot on the first day of my trip. I'll definitely come back to the area and when I do, Monarch is #1 on my list!
As the only real pub in Pacific Grove it's a great place for some easy fast and delicious food. Victoria is amazing as a bartender and the overall staff is quite great. Wish they had some more options with spirits but seeing as how the bar is relatively small I can see why. Great outdoor seating as well. Bring a jacket as it will get cold after summer.
Holy Cow! What a great meal, with a dessert that has made us lifetime fans of this restaurant. The banger sandwich...oh, my. The sausages used in this were devine. The cheese steak was the best we've had on the peninsula, regardless of what the restaurant said in Carmel, this was the best! And then, the dessert. Where has sticky toffee pudding been all my life?! This is divine! It's so addictive and yum! We split it, and should have each gotten our own! We will be back anytime we are in town. Just lovely. Staff is great and friendly, drinks were good. This is a must stop if you love pub food!
Had a great experience here! My partner is from London, so whenever we see a British style pub we usually will give it a go. This place checked all of the boxes for her. The fish and chips were very close to proper chip shop fish and chips. Fish was great and the chips were more substantial like you get in the U.K. The bangers were very tasty. Not rusky like you find at some other places. A very big bonus for the Mrs. The beans are Heinz. This is a big deal for most British people. Also, they had sticky toffee pudding. Yum! Service was great. There were actually British people working there. Our server was local, but she was excellent. Bathroom was very clean. This is something I always look for. The only minor thing that could be improved.... The owners support Aston Villa and not Arsenal. But I surely don't hold that against them. 😱 All in all, this is a great place for a casual meal or a taste of what casual food is like "across the pond" we'll be back the next time we are in the area.
Great Pub that brings back memories from the UK when I lived there briefly. Super great food! Had the delicious burger that you could build your own way with delicious choices of toppings. I also tried the fish and chips and it is the closest I've come the the fish and chips in Scotland! Big crispy steak fries come with it and you can even order a side of authentic mushy peas! I can't wait to try more from the menu. The beers are great and ice cold from tap and they even had Boddington's in a can. I hear they have live music so I will have to come back and enjoy that. To top it off, the staff are extremely friendly and the restroom was immaculate. You have to try the chocolate-tini!
Holy fish and chips Batman!!! Wish I could have taken pictures of my food but I ate it too fast because it was delicious! You're going to fall in love with this place the moment you walk in the door from the friendly staff to the lovely atmosphere! We sat at a small table by the front window and enjoyed our delicious food while watching Pacific Grove pass us by! This is a must stop for locals or travelers looking for a comfy familiar spot!
Fun place. Delicious food, great staff, relaxed environment. An easy choice if you’re looking for a casual meal in Pacific Grove. Also the perfect place to just have some appetizers and drinks if you need to kill some time on a lazy afternoon.
Awesome little spot in downtown PG. Live music the 1st Friday of every month. Large portions and great tasting food.
We love the Monarch Pub and go often! The food is so good. I love the Monarch salad and BLT. The fish and chips are freat too. The sweet potatoe fries are the best I have had ANYWHERE! Its always great to see Jeff and the wait staff is friendly and quick!
We had some great pub grub at the Monarch. Love the atmosphere; seemed like locals, not tourists (like us!). Our server, Jeff, was friendly and fun. We'll be back, all the way from the City of Brotherly Love.
First time there and it will not be the last. Great service, friendly people, tasty beer (Guinness served the right way) and good food all in a sunny outdoor setting in Pacific Grove. I've spent plenty of time in Old English pubs in London and this place made me feel right at home. I would definitely recommend The Monarch Pub and Restaurant.
❤️❤️This is the best fish and chips I have ever had! The calamari are also the best I have ever had! ❤️❤️ They were very kind to our children, accommodating to pets and offer the best fish and chips in the city. I cannot recommend this place enough. Came with family and had to come back a second time because the experience was so fantastic.
We enjoyed the outdoor dining, delicious food and friendly staff.
Me and my friends were looking for a place to eat and chat. This place was very welcoming, the server was very friendly and welcoming, the turkey burger was absolutely delicious with the grilled peppers and onions! Lovely atmosphere too! Definitely would come back again
5 stars. Pricey but good. I got the cheeseburger and sweet potato fries, and just a water, and all together, it was like 30 dollars 😭. But like I said, it was still good. So, there is no need to judge.
Food was good the place is a bit small and only one bathroom. Sat outside in a patio it was a bit cool out but they had decorative propane heaters burning throwing heat and nice flames. Had the cheese steak sandwich very good. With sweet potato fries that were crisp and just perfect. There was also a live band playing, in all had a good time.
Great outdoor seating in downtown Pacific Grove, had a couple beers and some appetizers
Great food, great service, and great vibe. Whenever we're craving fish and chips, this is where we go. Very laid back.
Great locals spot. Beautiful outdoor seating w Umbrellas 🌂. Great tasting cheeseburgers & fries. Known for the famous British Fish & Chips. Full bar! Lots of to-go orders. Great service! Ask for Laurie... Best waitress in PG! Music on 1st Fridays & throughout the year. Love the Guinness!
If you are longing for a piece of good ol' Britain amidst the California vibes, that's a place to go. The food is top-notch (with vegetarian options too!), the beer selection is amazing. They have heated patio and cute indoor seating. That's your destination to relax with friends.
Great place to stop for a Guinness and other pub favorites.
A very nice down home restaurant..food is excellent as is the service..this is one of those "comfort" places to have a meal...ii had a club sandwich with was very well put together and fries..the sandwich was of ample proportion..I ended up taking half of to go.... ..
Me and my husband were looking for a good fish and chips and found this Amazing place. The food was great. I ordered the prawns with fish and chips and my husband ordered the greens apple salad with chicken and bacon bits. Both were delicious. Our waitress Gabby was so delightful. We will come back again here for sure.
The Monarch Pub is located in lovely downtown Pacific Grove, California. It’s one of my favorite local restaurants to go to because it’s consistently great. There is indoor and outdoor dining with animals on leashes allowed. Outside there is a fire pit and a fun wall of beer related signs. Inside has a traditional pub feel with a full bar and TVs. Everything is reasonably priced and always yummy. Our fav is the calamari! They have weekend events as well. The staff is quick and nice. Try it!
Great Pub Grub! What an absolute gem in charming Pacific Grove. The Monarch Pub truly has it all—comfort, a laid-back atmosphere, and outstanding food. From the moment we stepped inside, we felt completely at ease. The setting is casual and welcoming, with a cozy bar, a relaxed dining area, and a spacious patio that’s ideal for unwinding. It’s the kind of place where both locals and visitors feel instantly at home. We ordered the British Banger Sandwich, which came with perfectly cooked fries and tasty beans—it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the crispy, flavorful Prawns and Chips, and they were excellent—lightly battered, golden, and full of flavor. And we couldn’t leave without trying the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was nothing short of heavenly—warm, indulgent, and unforgettable. The menu is full of great choices for everyone, including lots of fresh salads and hearty sandwiches. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high quality and generous portion sizes. Whether you're craving traditional pub fare or something lighter, there’s something to satisfy every appetite. Monarch Pub also offers a great array of British and Irish ales, a variety of beers, and wines, along with a full bar featuring special cocktails—perfect for pairing with your meal or enjoying during a night out. Our server, India, was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind—her excellent service made a great experience even better. The patio added to the fun with its humorous signage, lush flowers, and all of its visual fun elements of Great Britain inside and out—creating such a cheerful and unique vibe that made our visit even more enjoyable. It’s also a great place to catch a game—whether you’re into baseball, basketball, soccer, or more. The relaxed setting and friendly crowd make it an ideal spot for sports fans. Easily accessible, you can stroll over, bike over or drive over with lots of nearby parking. We’re already looking forward to catching a future performance by Katherine Lavin, who we know is incredibly talented. We’ll definitely be back! Monarch Pub is a must-visit—whether you’re in the mood for a satisfying meal, a refreshing drink, catching a match, or just a casual evening out. Highly recommended!
Saturday afternoon and quiet place to hang out for beer and fish&chips... I got fish and shrimp which comes with chips/ calamari fries... amazing weather and beer. So happy to have this place in my neighborhood ☺️
Guiness and Fish N chips here were great. nice large pieces of fish.
I had a wonderful experience at the Monarch Pub & Restaurant in Pacific Grove. This charming spot exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere that I absolutely adore. To begin my meal, I opted for the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. They were perfectly crispy and gooey, accompanied by a delicious dipping sauce. For the main course, I decided to try the Monarch's Classic Apple Salad. Even though I'm not particularly fond of blue cheese, the friendly staff gladly accommodated my request to swap it out for feta cheese. With the addition of balsamic dressing, bacon bits, mixed greens, apples, dried cranberries, and candied pecans, every bite was a delightful explosion of flavors. I really enjoyed it! I chose to sit outside by the fire, which made for a lovely evening ambiance. The service at the Monarch Pub & Restaurant was top-notch and the entire dining experience left me satisfied. The food was beyond delicious, and the attentive staff made sure everything went smoothly. Overall, if you ever find yourself in Pacific Grove, I highly recommend visiting this cute little spot. The Monarch Pub & Restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere, delectable dishes, and excellent service.
When you can't make it to England for Fish and Chips, eat here! They are the BEST I have had in the USA! Then, there's their traditional Mushy Peas for another authentic British treat. I enjoyed a nice iced tea with my meal and many other beverages are available. They have "Old Speckled Hen," which is a classic British bitter or ale that compliments Fish and Chips nicely. Amy was a delightful server. She treated my husband and I with superb service and smiles. Each employee worked diligently to clean and sanitize tables and chairs and wore their masks correctly. Eating outside and enjoying the heated patio was very pleasant and comfortable! Thank you, Monarch Pub, for a delicious meal and a memorable experience! We can't wait to return!
Great place to get a quick bite. They have a nice outside seating area when the weather allows. We went there several times during our stay in the area. The beer battered artichokes are awesome, probably had them every time. This time with beer battered mushrooms and fries. Portions are pretty large/filling, we couldn't finish that with 2 people.
Such an excellent family dinner! We had fish and chips, bangers, and fried mushrooms. Fish was excellent and was much better than Crown and Anchor and London Bridge Pub. We will definitely be coming back.
My first time at The Monarch Pub and it didn’t disappoint! I tried their fish and chip and the fish was excellent, not over cooked as many pubs deep fry it too much and their batter was tasty. My husband ordered their Club Sandwich and he thought it was delicious/fresh sourdough. The outdoor patio was warm enough to eat outside with their large propane gas fire pit. It was be windy and chilly in Monterey county so don’t forget to bring a sweatshirt. Friendly waitstaff made the dinner enjoyable.
Fresh ingredients, cold beer mixed with great service in a Pub atmosphere makes for a great dining experience. The batter was thin and crispy on both the fish and prawns and the mushy peas were the perfect consistency served nice and hot.
Great experience! Personality plus with initial greeting and timely service. Healthy serving of fish and chips. Two pieces is enough to share! Advice: order the side of curry sauce and dip your fries! Winner! Thank you Monarch Pub for dialing it in!
Nice little joint. Fish and Chips were really good. Did end up with a piece that was a little rubbery. But the other piece was great. Waitress was awesome and fixed it and brought out another beer on the house. Would definitely go back

In complete honesty I was in Pacific Grove for a long weekend and searched high and low for reliably good food every day, and after many attempts to find something, Monarch Pub had the most reliably good food good drink and good service. Would recommend!

Great food and cozy atmosphere. Authentic British and UK drinks! The turkey burger and fish and chips are amazing. The staff are very kind and pay good attention to you. Great service! 10/10 :D!!
Had lunch there on a beautiful day in Pacific Grove. We sat outside and the service was excellent. Had a Turkey Burger. It was very tasty AND the sweet potato fries and we're a perfect match for the dish.
Place is alright, it's what I would expect from a pub. It would be nice if they had a bigger beer menu, more options, more local brews. I was also disappointed in the number of tvs, it is a pub, people go there to catch a game, get more tvs up! As far as food goes, it's bar food, nothing fancy, just simple and plain. Veggie burger was good, fries were good as well. not a bad place to spend the afternoon or evening hanging out and throwing back a few brews with some friends.
Great pub in Pacific Grove. Traditional pub fare with a selection of British and other beers. Indoor or outdoor patio seating. Reasonably priced, good service, pub atmosphere.
Delicious Fish and Chips served with the typical British Condiments. Had an amazing time, and the service was fantastic. The only thing negative with this place was the black pepper! I practically turned a chip black, covered in black pepper, and I couldn't even taste the pepper flavor. It's just a simple fix of replacing the shakers with fresh and smaller ground pepper, and they would be 5-stars.
Great little British style pub with a decent drink selection. Food is great for sure. I've been here several times and that always seem to need just one more server to keep up... they're a tad slow... enough to notice but not enough to deter me from going back. They had sports on the TVs and I got to watch my Tennessee Volunteers take down Clemson which made me very happy. Bottom line: definitely recommend!
Visited this place during Car Week and waited about 30 minutes to be seated due to it being busy and them making sure the kitchen wasn’t overloaded (I mean I get it, smart). So we got a few drinks and I noticed they have a TouchTunes radio. Now as a man fond of music from all genres, I decided to play some classics. I queued up YMCA, Circle of Life, She Bang, and Hotel California. Much to my surprise, halfway through Hotel California, the manager and bartender became quite angry at the music selection. Guess they don’t like cover songs by William Hung despite their uniqueness and instant recognizability. During the 5th one from Hung’s Greatest Hits, they angrily skipped all my remaining songs in the queue that I had paid for, like the Macarena by the Muppets, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Barbie Girl, etc. Not cool dude. I paid for those songs. Anyway, after this, I decided since it was Car Week to play some other classics like Echoes by Pink Floyd. Much to my surprise, they didn’t like this either. We were only about 12 minutes in (around the halfway mark), and they skipped that song too! Frustrated, I decided to play Take a Chance by ABBA since we were at a classic car show, and I’m not a monster. Well, the manager didn’t like that either, so more credits were wasted. Long story short, they are a little slow when busy and they have a short fuse with music choices. I did unfortunately decide to dock the tip since they kept skipping all my songs. Besides, they made out with at least $50 from me from the jukebox anyway. Well, if you’ve made it this far, the food is 5 stars, and the music selection they let you play is 1 star, so I’m going to deduct that star to give it a solid 4. I’ll stop by again for the burgers and some Hung. - [ ]
Great food. Great service by the single server at the restaurant. That one lady was ran ragged, trying her best to take orders, serve BEvERages and take care of final billing tasks. The Monarch Pub really needs to hire an additional server or two during the lunch shift.
For a small bar, a decent selection of beer and booze appears before you. As far as grub, I've only ordered the Bangers (no mash) sandwich. Quite tasty, I must say. The fries that come with are some of the better ones around. True chips. Little to no grease...and hot! At least mine have been for 2 weekends in a row...so that says something about consistency.
The service was good (they were a little busy but we were in no hurry) and they were very friendly. Dog friendly outside seating. The food itself was pretty decent if you're looking for some fried stuff but there is a little less in terms of not fried foods, but it is an English pub after all!
A decent pub, by no means salubrious but if you fancy a nice, informal drink and some pretty good fish and chips, I'd recommend it. Not many wine options, but all in all a great place, and dog friendly if you don't mind sitting outside. Despite the cold weather the heaters there worked really quite well and we were too cold.
Really good pub food. Straightforward menu, generous serving, fair prices and great atmosphere, esp when you can sit outside on a warm evening and listen to live music. It was busy, but the wait wasn't too long. Wait staff working really hard to keep everyone happy. Made for a really pleasant impromptu night out.
Large portions and good flavors.... tasty. The waitress was great. For being outside I thought the place was very clean. I'll be going back when in Monterey area. Oh yeah they had a good selection of beers.
Only stopped here for drinks and appetizers. I had 3 and 2 of them were fantastic but one of them was questionable. I don't know if they made it wrong or not but I'm sure a mojito shouldn't taste that way. I would definitely return though because they have a very nice atmosphere especially the patio area on a nice sunny day.
Prompt service, easy to find in downtown PG, and great treatment from the wait staff. Turkey burger and beer battered artichokes are worth a try. The restuarant is brightly lit and family friendly. It's definitely more of a restaurant/diner than a pub. If you want to take your kids, this is the place. (If you want a dive bar, this is not it.) Outdoor seating has a fire pit and gas heaters. Will be nice outdoors in the spring/summer/fall!
Great food. The appetizers are all very tasty. There's also a good selection of beers but you're definitely paying more for the downtown Pacific Grove experience. Also, be careful if you order a double cocktail, the Moscow mule went from $14 to $28 and we didn't notice until much later when we were figuring out the split. Just order more drinks instead of stronger ones.
We stopped in for a refreshment and a snack. Expansive patio. Despite arriving at shift change the service was quite good. We order the calamari 4.5/5 and fried artichoke 4.5/5. Both very good and large portions. Good beer, wine, and cocktail options.
Food is absolutely great. Deep fried artichokes THE best we have ever had. Fish in the fish n Chips was HUGE. I only gave it 4 stars because the daft beer choices were pretty sad for a pub.

The guy with the English accent was the only one running the show. Artichoke hearts stay away from.. other than that the food was wonderful and amazing salads
This is the second time we visited this place. The first time, the waitress was great (she actually sat us today in someone else's section while waiting tables when she saw us standing there waiting.) I wish I knew her name, long reddish hair...super sweet. Love her! Today however, was a bit disappointing. We ordered fried mushrooms and fish and chips. The food was absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere was great, we sat outside in the beer garden. The issue was our waitress, Alison. She came by, took our order. Then someone else brought our order. We witnessed her checking on her other tables around us, but she never checked on us. We were fine other than wanted to order something else to drink. She didn't stop again until your plates were empty, simply asking "do you want your check"? We were pleased with everything about our visit with the exception of the service. We didn't understand why she checked on everyone else.
A good dive bar. The best part was the turkey burger, which was outstanding, and accompanying sweet potato fries. Huge portion of fish & chips, but the chips were blah. Love that it is dog friendly and has a large patio with music.

Go for the Beer, the street scene, and just do appetizers. I had some kind of steak sandwich thing which was ok but way too many sautéed onions and peppers and a strange meet that didn't resemble roast beef at all. More like a slice of a beefy tasting spam. Perhaps that is a stake sandwich in the British Isles and I am/was too naive.
I really liked this place. Would have given them 4 stars but my wife's philly steak sandwich was pretty light on the meat. Flavorful but not hardy. My fish n chip was great. Crispy, light, flakey and delicious. With that said, we'd go back..but not order the philly.
If you come here for Guinness - don’t. Doesn’t know how to pour a Guinness and doesn’t serve it in a proper Guinness glass. Outside of that - nice spot.
We were driving through the town of Pacific Grove trying to find a place to have dinner. This small town is down the road from Monterey and is its a sleepy suburb compared to Monterey. There were not alot of restaurants and most of them were closed. We landed at Monarch Pub. It was a full house and we waited about 20 minutes to be seated. We sat outside on the enclosed patio, about 1/3 of the heaters were broken on this particular brisk evening. We sat next to one of the broken heaters. The menu is British pub fare. We ordered breaded calamari and fish n chips to share. The waitress was over worked, it was just her for the entire patio. So it took awhile to order and to get our drinks and food, and to even get napkins, refills, and condiments. To add to her workload, the ticket system went wonky, it didn't print the table #s. So she had to shout out orders with two other staff helping her. With folks all claiming orders willy nilly, it was mayhem. We got our calamari appetizer but got skunked on our fish n chips. That came super late. The fish in the fish n chips was fantastic. Quality, great tasting piece of cod. Firm, flaky fish. It was beer battered and deep fried .Ohhh that crust was darn tasty as well. Fried to a prefect golden crisp.hard an audible crunch. Mmm. The fries were steak cut and just ok. Anyway the breaded calamari tasted ok. Not bad, not great either. Plus I don't think k it was fresh made.
Stopped in for a quick lunch after driving 17 mile drive. Never been to this area before and this place looked interesting. Waiter was nice and we were sat at a time right away. Ordered fish and chips and a turkey sandwich. Asked for no mayo and add cheese and it came out with mayo and no cheese... Fish was cooked perfectly and one piece was a definite meal. The steak fries were just ok. Sweet potato fries are amazing. Be sure to get those.

It's a cute little place, and the waiter is nice, but man it's hard to recommend when the food is so abysmal. The fried mushrooms were soggy both from being undercooked and thoroughly oily. My Philly cheesesteak had very little cheese, and the steak was strangely thick and overcooked to the point of dryness. The fries were unseasoned, with the taste and texture of cardboard. Even the off-brand ketchup tasted off. They had good beers but the selection was quite limited, especially for a place that has a "beer garden".
The fish & chips were disappointing. @ the price of $20 they were greasy, the batter fell off the fish. Very bland & left a bit of a strange aftertaste. This is what I will remember about The Monarch.
Found a hair in the jalapeño poppers, told our server and she didn’t even take it off the bill. Fish and chips were soggy and fries were hard and under cooked with no salt. Bland food & poor service I definitely do not recommend. Save your money, go somewhere els.
How can a British pub mess up fish and chips? The fish was a soggy mess and my husband had food poisoning symptoms for 12 hours afterward. Even my burger was overcooked, which makes sense because the waitress never asked how I wanted it prepared. Apparently she assumed hockey puck.
