There is no way I could eat this food and not leave a review... Fantastic food, staff, atmosphere and value for money. BEST carvery I've had and will continue to keep getting my carvery from here 👌 the present owners/staff/chef are the best combo which is why I will continue to keep having Sunday lunch and evening meals out at this place. Great work guys, Thank you 😊

Went for a meal with my wife and mother in law. Friendly staff, good service. I had mixed grill which was cooked perfect. Wife and mother had scampi and chips, and they rekon it's one of the best they have had. Fairly quiet, so nice atmosphere, could talk without shouting, and plenty of table space. £65 including drinks. Excellent 😄

Great place, food is epic. Had Roast Dinner & Weekday menu options and both were great. Beer & wine was also lovely. Nice friendly staff & really very reasonable prices for both food and booze.

We booked on today for carvery. The food was fantastic, although the restaurant was very busy when we arrived the service was really quick, the staff were so welcoming & friendly. The atmosphere was great. Highly recommend halfway house. We have also been during the week and the meals have been delicious.

Booked a meal here yesterday for myself and 2 of my sons , great location, plenty of parking, staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite, ordered the Monday pie special which includes a drink , the pie was hand made and absolutely delicious I chose the steak and ale , my son chose the cheeseburger and skin on fries , it was delicious, they have a great menu , variety of drinks and I liked that there was home made food on the menu, they even gave us take away skin on chips for my son , highly recommended will definitely be back .

Just returned from two weeks in Rame Cross, Cornwall. Dined at the Halfway House many times, and were never disappointed with the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. Wait staff was extremely professional and courtesous. The Carvery on Wednesdays and Sundays were OUTSTANDING.

A friend recommended Halfway House if we were ever looking for a carvery, and I’m so glad she did. We have been twice now, once on a Sunday, and once on a Wednesday. Service was great both times, and the food was outstanding. Lots of choice of veg, and also the option of a vegetarian main instead of meat. I had a small portion and it was plenty.

Popped in yesterday with my husband, brother and sister in law. My brother was in last week and had the Wednesday carvery which he highly recommended, hence we all went yesterday. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing. Choices of 3 meats and all freshly cooked veg. We were made to feel welcome and served quickly and efficiently by Morgan. The atmosphere was excellent. Can't wait to go again. They have earned themselves 4 regular customers.

Excellent food no matter what day of the week. The Sunday carvery is exceptional, and the plated roast they sometimes offer midweek is just as good. All of the staff are a real credit to you. Over the last 12 months this place has truly turned a corner under the new owners. Well done, you should be very proud of what you’ve achieved

I go there all the time. Delicious food with top quality ingredients, generous portion sizes and even very affordable prices. The carvery is the best I’ve found in the region. Lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff - thanks Morgan and Craig!

We went for the sunday carvery and were pleasantly surprised. Upon our arrival, we could tell the place is popular by how busy it was. Traditionnal and cozy pub atmosphere. The staff was lovely and accommodating, finding a new table when our reserved one was not free yet. The food was very tasty, generous portion for a fairly reasonnable price. I had the vegetarian option, which included a lovely mushroom pie. We will gladly be back, hopefully with enough space for desert this time!

I went here to meet some friends whilst I was visiting family down here. Whilst there we had a meal which was very nice. It was a carvery meal with a nice choice of the usual Sunday lunch offerings. It was very busy throughout the afternoon but very well organized. We all enjoyed the meal and the price was acceptable.

We went to the Halfway House on a random Wednesday evening in early January, and were totally blown away by the vast improvements to the establishment. The food was fantastic, the service was great, and the entire place felt loved and welcoming. What an asset for Rame Cross. Thank you

We called in for a carvery, having tried it before knew it would be great. They were very busy but managed to fit us in. ( Should of booked really, but it was a spur of the moment decision). Great choice of food and drinks. The carvery is delicious, plenty of choice. Definitely recommend it.

Stopped here with my truck and Staff was warmly welcomed right away. The place is spotless beautifully set up and has plenty of easy parking. The burger was absolutely perfect full of flavor, with rich melted cheese and great sides. One of the best I’ve had anywhere. If you’re ever passing through Cornwall, this spot is a must stop!

Another stunning dinner, I loved the mixed grill and highly recommend the chilli chip upgrade, had a nice kick to it. Pate for starter was delicious and puddings were excellent, stickey toffee pudding was top nosh. Staff were all wonderful as usual, always smiling and happy to help in any way.

If anyone is thinking of booking a large party for a celebration then I cannot recommend The Halfway House ENOUGH! I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to you all for making our wedding meal on the 31st October so enjoyable, also for the bouquet of flowers and card, it was a lovely little touch. A special thank you and shout out to Lydia for being an incredible waitress (she's a credit to you) she was so attentive and made sure all orders got out as quickly as possible (which couldn't be easy with a table of 21) Everyone commented on how lovely their meals were, so a special shout out to Chef Harry and team for the gorgeous food. Our youngest members of the party wanted to say thank you to him personally and were invited into the kitchen to meet him which made their evenings!! Keep up the amazing work as always and thank you once more for everything!!! Kerri, Andrew and all our party xx

Excellent food and atmosphere. Plenty of parking with pleasant and professional staff. We were lucky to have two lovely waitresses, Lydia and Ellie. We had such a good meal one night we returned the next evening. Both waitresses recognised us which was a nice touch. Would definitely go again when in this area.

I will definitely visit here again. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, professional and looked smart. From the moment we entered we were given a friendly welcome, immediately shown to our table, given a menu, drinks orders taken and delivered back quickly. The food on the carvery was delicious - choice of three meats and a choice of three plate sizes with variable prices according to size (small, regular, large). I would definitely advise booking if visiting on a Sunday it was extremely busy the whole time we were there but although the staff were busy the whole time, at no point did they not have time to give each and every customer that personal attention, smile and make them feel valued and important. We were celebrating our Ruby Wedding anniversary but we hadn't made this known but we could not have been made more welcome, received better service or celebrated this occasion in a nicer place. The Halfway House made our special occasion a memory to cherish.

Really great carvery. Managed to get a last minute table on the way back from a trip to Helton. Never been here before so it was a bit of a risk if it would be any good, but so glad we took the risk! Delicious roast beef, friendly and attentive service - would definitely return.

Great little find just on the main road to Helston. Popped in for a drink but food smelt way to good to walk away from we were looked after very well by the staff and the lager choices are very good not to mention the draft ales. Would degintly recommend. We stayed in the campsite in the back so just in our back garden it was lovely

Best food around, came on a busy day and the staff managed to fine us a table were we were seated and served very quickly. The pub has recently been taken over by the new owners Morgan and craig and the place has never looked better, fantastic food, warm service from lydia and gayle, and even dog friendly. Best place to eat in miles.

We dropped in on spec late Easter Sunday afternoon. We were immediately welcomed and offered a choice of tables. We chose the Sunday Carvery which was excellent with Beef, Pork and Turkey meat along with all the usual vegetables which were cooked from fresh. Staff were all friendly without being over bearing or ignoring us. Thoroughly recommend this venue.

We stopped off at the Halfway House on the way back from the Lizard recently. We had a very warm welcome from all members of staff and the food and food choices were excellent. We'll definitely be calling back in the next time we are passing.

Whilst the food was lovely, a couple of pointers. Broccoli wasn't cooked and the cauliflower cheese was completely the opposite. Massive portions. I had a regular and couldn't eat it. Small would have been plenty big enough

The new owners have turned this place around! What a relief. Such a gorgeous place that was going down the pan. Out for a local day trip and wasn't having luck in Helston for decent restaurants/pubs that weren't either packed, loud or absolutely baking inside, we decided to give The Halfway House a go since we'd be passing it. It definitely kept our lovely day out from being ruined. The staff were lovely. The prices were good and the place was clean. The food was nice. I'm not too keen on having sides and bar snacks coming out on worn out boards as I know how wood is hard to keep germ free. But it wasn't a deal breaker. My husband loved his Hunters Chicken Schnitzel. I had the 3 for £15 and the gravy that comes with the chicken straps was so delicious...I started stealing my daughters chips just to try and finish the gravy and I'm not ashamed. I enjoyed the butter chicken bites. The pork belly bites were okay. The texture wasn't for me. I also had the mac and cheese side and it was great. My daughter enjoyed her chicken stripes and said the chips were really good. As for the boards, I would recommend plating the 3 for £15 to cut down on washing up and from taking up table space. I will definitely request my order be served on one plate next time. We left full and happy. Exactly what we were looking for.

Good place for dinner if you are in the area. There is a large car park next to the restaurant. The staff is really friendly and helpful. We had the mixed grill and a burger. Both were okay. Unfortunately after giving us the menu again for dessert, the staff never came by to take our order. After a 20min wait we decided to pay and leave, too bad because the dessert menu looked good.

After 26 yrs of holidaying in the county of Cornwall, I didn't that there was much left to discover, I was wrong! Great simple food done well, dog friendly(littlepot of biscuits) and warm friendly staff.

Had fish and chips for £14 ,which is very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Both my wife and I couldn't finish the chips which were plenty for us. Decent size fish which was fresh and a choice of mushy or garden peas. Was served with newspaper style -paper, which was a nice touch. My only complaint was that is was a bit greasy, but the paper did soak that up a bit and would not stop us from returning. Would have rated it 5 star otherwise.

There was a coach party in and among folk group entertaining them. This made it too noisy for us. Staff said the tour visits every Tuesday so we would avoid this if we returned. Just not our thing. Some would think it great as the delivery of the Cornish history and songs were professionally delivered. The food was good but took a while. staff were pleasant and worked hard.

We always come to the Halfway house when visiting our son in Penryn. Sadly today we were disappointed in the level of customer service. The food was excellent but let down by the lack of customer service. I had booked for three of us and on arrival at 2.30pm despite the restaurant being almost empty, we were shown to a very small table by the door. Next to us were three people with 2 dogs. I didn't mind the dogs at all but it made it very cramped for us and the people next to us and simply did not make sense when there were so many empty tables. The table had not been cleared so when we got our carveries, I had to go to the bar for cutlery. Having had our main meal, we waited over 20 minutes hoping the staff would come and ask us whether we wanted desserts. Gave up waiting and again went to the bar to ask for menus. Not the normal service we have come to expect here. We opted for the mini desserts with a hot drink. The brownies were fine but the lemon tart was a joke. Tiniest slice imaginable. It looked ridiculous. The food was amazing so it seems such a shame that it was let down by such poor service. First time I have not left a tip but really felt the staff let the whole meal down.

Had high expectations of here sadly let down by the table service. To point out it was not busy. Booked online and saw they had a set evening menu, had to ask for these menus and was told that they may not have these items anymore and may have stopped this menu! The majority of items were the same as what is on the main menu! The website needs updating if this is the case. Then after a long time of waiting we ordered and were double checked some time after on what we had ordered! Starters came out and we were told that the mains were practically ready too, said we would have them as didn’t want steak being overcooked, so ended up with all the food at the table together, not ideal. Table cleared and asked if we wanted puddings, said yes, then waited a long time again to actually order these, and double checked again on the order. Found the waitress was pleasant but was more interested in chatting to people she knew? than serving us. Then to top it off no one checked if we wanted the bill so my husband paid at the bar and was overcharged by not being charged the set menu cost, just under £15 more. I was given a refund of this with no fuss I will add, but it was just a disappointing visit sadly with all these things happening. I’ve given 3 stars as the food is fantastic but the overall service let it down sadly!

We booked a Christmas Lunch. Food was amazing and we could not fault it. The cook has done a great job with it. Unfortunately the service let us down. It took nearly 3h for our 3 course meal to be delivered. We felt we were forgotten as dishes on nearby tables were served promptly. We ordered some drinks midway for our dinner, and those would never have arrived if we wouldn't have asked for it after about 20 min. The Christmas Pudding came with melted ice-cream which proved the point that food sat in the kitchen for ages before it arrived at our table. We were patient as it was a Christmas Day, but otherwise we would not put up with it. The payment was painful as the bartender could not add up the bill correctly. We left slightly disappointed.

Gillian Mercer

Admittedly they had a coach in. I thought the portions were very small for adults. We had the pie and pork belly. The pork belly was very thin and the pies were mostly pastry. Veg not great. Staff helpful and friendly.
