Trattoria San Giovanni Piazza San Giovanni Reviews
If you are looking for the right place to eat close to the Basilica de San Giovanni in Laterano you found it. Very good food and also very caring staff. They accepted me when it was quite late for lunch (and other places told me kitchen was closed). Best thing that could happen. Grazie mille!!!
The service was excellent — quick, friendly, and calm. The dish itself was great too: fresh pasta, tasty sauce, and a generous portion. I also tried out a calorie-tracking service (see photo) — I was pleasantly surprised by how easy and convenient it is to monitor what you eat. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their nutrition under control.
I don’t often write reviews, but this is an absolute gem of a place that should be recognised. The staff were so kind to me as a solo diner, and the food was delicious. I had an amazing caprese salad and the cacio e pepe was divine. The service was professional and welcoming.
We had such a good experience that we came back a few days later. The food is perfectly prepared, creative and elevated. The service is efficient and smooth. Prices included three courses and a shared bottle of wine.
Our experience at Sampietrino was nothing short of excellent! The Carbonara was very good, surpassing even the Amatriciana. The creamy, savory sauce made it one of the best Carbonaras we've ever tasted. The Amatriciana was good but didn't quite reach the same level as the Carbonara. Nonetheless, it was still a solid dish. The restaurant itself is quite new and has a cool, modern vibe. The service was impeccable, adding to the overall wonderful experience. Definitely a 5/5 and a place we'll visit again!
I'll start with the bottom line: DELICIOUS FOOD, small portions, and not cheap. I'm not sure if I should give it a 4 or 5 star review because of the price/quantity ratio but the service was excellent, the atmosphere/vibe - relaxing and pleasant and again, great food - so I'm giving it a 5. However - if you're on a budget, this is probably not the best choice. You can try and book a table with a 20% discount using "The Fork" app. The zucchini flowers (with anchovies) were great. Also the fried artichoke! The meat polpetta was good but a little dry. Pastas were also good. Overall a great and tasty evening!
Excellent! Absolutely the best meal we’ve had since we’ve been to Rome! I had the pesto gnocchi and loved it. Also, the owner and staff are so friendly and accommodating. He even brought the chef out to meet us after we complimented the meal! Prices were very reasonable and if you are American and reading this, you may be glad to know they open for dinner earlier than most Italian restaurants.
Start to finish our dinner at Primizia was an absolute delight 🌟🌟🌟 We started with the porchetta antipasto and some focaccia which were both amazing. My boyfriend got the amatriciana but we both agreed the carbonara I ordered was one of the BEST we’ve tried in our two years living in Rome!! The service was also top notch, very friendly staff and super attentive. Seriously you must give this place a try!
Traditional roman food with a twist on a few of their courses. Super friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Reasonable prices. The Saltimbocca Romana was delicious and a perfect secondi. The Panacotta was drenched in Raspberry jam and a bit on the underwhelming side. All in all, a safe bet and great food to price ratio.
The place is ok, and the service is really good. Since you arrive, you feel welcomed. I really liked my pasta. Rigatoni alla Gricia 🤩🤩 My friend ate the pizza margherita, and she said it was her favorite so far. However, I really don’t recommend those gnocchi of the picture. If you are around the place and hungry, it is a good option.
We have had much better versions of all these things elsewhere. This was a last minute find as all the other places near here we looked at ended up being closed. The gnocchi was good although light on the meat. The cacio e pepe was the bad though, don't get it. I wouldn't order the zuchinni flowers again. The menu is not reflective of what they give you for the dessert. We asked for the sour cherry and ricotta cheesecake. The waiter was confused and said it was NY style cheesecake, and when we asked to clarify, they didn't understand. It was a weird amalgamation. We were looking for the Roman Jewish sour cherry ricotta cheesecake. What we got was amerena cocktail cherries on top of NY style cheesecake baked with ricotta (NY style cheesecake is made with Philadelphia style cream cheese). Sour cherries are it's own thing, not anywhere close to cocktail cherries. It was very disappointing.
The place sadly did not meet my expectations. The staff was great, the atmosphere was OK but food was a problem. I ordered two meals: 1. Gnocchi: came with little sauce, tasted like dry flavor and it was just bad. 2. Steak 🥩 was a disaster. First of all it came half cold next to cold roasted potatoes. The meat cut I got was bad and half of it was just fat (as per my photos). Ended up eating maybe half of it I left the restaurant 70 EUR lighter and half starving. Please avoid this place.
