Checkers is quite small so it gets quite busy.but it's worth the wait. Lots of good German dishes here served hot and fast. Portions are fairly large. The German chocolate cake was delicious.

My husband and I are here a lot. It was becoming almost bi-weekly for us at one point. The food is just so delicious, affordable and you get a major portion! I love the pork dishes and my husband has had a variety of the beef, chicken and pork dishes. No complaints and I’m so psyched about the new added space, the restaurant definitely needed it! The outdoor patio is fun with the music too.

Love love love this place! As soon as you open the door you’re engulfed in the charming yet stocky energy of German culture. Food delicious, beer selections superb, and service so amazing. Our server Kelly was great; chill, informative, and funny!!! Highly recommend this hidden gem!

Classic German cuisine that is fresh and full of flavor. I haven't been here in a while, and I recommended it to my friend as we drove up Federal Hwy. Turned around and ate an early dinner. Kelly was our waitress and she provided excellent service. If you're looking for something special and out of the ordinary... take a trip to old Munich. Beer is served in large glass beer steins. 🍻

Food selection is pretty authentic for a "Bavarian" restaurant. Draft beer options are good! Live music out back in the courtyard.

Small great place if you like Bavarian food and beer. No need to fly to Munchen, just drive to Pompano Beach https://youtu.be/CfSrdE9kx_A https://youtu.be/rQsWw-RNwws

Went here for a 30th birthday dinner for my friend. We ordered the grouper which was excellent and potato pancakes which so great and not greasy at all. I even tried some of the paprika chicken which was good. Everything was great except for their pretzels, they didn't seem super fresh or authentic. They tasted like the frozen ones you get at the grocery store. Other then the pretzel bites, would highly recommend.

Best southern German food on the east coast by far. The schweinehaxe was absolutely perfect. Also love the walls of steins.

We went here for a friend's birthday. Everything we had was delicious! As expected, they have a large beer selection, and the wheat beer I had was great. We will definitely be back, and I would recommend coming if you want good German food.

I can't believe it's taken this long for me to hear where the old Cypress Nook crew ended up. Great move Matt and you're a Detroit Red Wings fan, too! You want proof... check out the bathroom!! We absolutely enjoyed our breakfast and Denise took great care of us, just like the old days! We'll definitely be back for lunch and dinner!!

Excellent, traditional, German cuisine (as far as I can tell ☺). I highly recommend the Chicken Hunter as an entree, and the Potato Dumplings or the Spaetzle (egg noodles) as sides. I would pass on the Cucumber Salad, it was very vinegary and sour. The servers are very nice and welcoming as well.

Simply amazing. One of the best schnitzels I’ve had in Florida. The quality exceeded my expectations. The only place that comes close is Bohemian Biergarten in Boulder, Colorado. Becky and Denise were perfect, and made our visit feel complete. We’ll definitely be back!

I dreamed to go to Germany for years, i finally went and enjoyed the food and the beers all over the country. Specially in Bavaria. But I realized that I don’t need to go that far to enjoy the same kind of food and beers. Checkers Old Munchen has it all. Very authentic German food. I love the beers and the decor. It is a little German corner in Pompano beach Florida. I wish I had my own stein to drink my favorite beer. Sometime I will. Never disappoint every time I go there, have great time with friends and family.

I lived in Fort Lauderdale yrs ago and never knew this place existed, been around since 1982 and soooo glad I finally found it. Delicious food, fantastic staff and is you can't find a BEER you like here then something's wrong with you. Very relaxed atmosphere and there is even outdoors dining for you to partake in. Fantastic menu with a great selection to choose from.....

Amazing long time German restaurant in Pompano Beach. They offer a variety of classic German dishes and specialize in Schnitzles. The menus features a wide variety of traditional German entrees and sandwiches as well as a great selection of appetizers, soups, and salads. There are over 30 German beers to offer on the menu and offer a free to start Das Boot Beer Tour, complete all 30 beers at your leisure and walk away with some pretty cool perks and get your name plaque on one of the many steins they currently have on their wall. Whether you come for lunch or dinner you are bound to walk out happy and full! The staff was friendly and quick with our beer and orders and the atmosphere was warm and welcome! Definitely a place to check out if you are local or visiting from out of town! Update: still 5 stars 1/7/22.

Best restaurant ever. Amazing food, environment, and people, Wendell, Gabby, Rubens, etc. Amazing, great service.

Wow, what a cool place and a great experience! We were seated immediately around 8 on a weekday. Complimentary pretzels and mustard were a welcome start. All portions were very generous. (We ate leftovers for dinner the next night!) The strawberry sponge cake was a perfect finish! (homemade by our server, Kelli!)

I'm half german and I have just moved here from Germany, Munich/Bavaria. So I was very excited to try this place. We had a veal Schnitzel with Spätzle and red cabbage and a stuffed Schnitzel with Sauerkraut and red cabbage. We really liked the food a lot but I personally think the meat itself should be seasoned at least with salt and pepper before put the breading on it. Also too there was no seasoning on the spätzle. A lil salt did it though. Next time I'm going to ask to put the sauce on the side and not on the Schnitzel itself. You won't find a breaded Schnitzel with sauce on top in Bavaria/Germany. The service was great. Atmosphere great. We will definitely be back.

Awesome awesome awesome time here. Really good vibe. Lovely and accommodating staff. Food is perfection. Can't ask for a better sausage outside of Germany. The beer is great and the live music is phenomenal.

Many thanks to owner Matt Moore, Manager Wendell, server Rodrigo, and all the staff who made it awesome! Vielen Dank! Es wahr ausgeseichnet! Mandy Krupa :-)

Best authentic German food in all of South Florida! Big portions, extra friendly service, and yummy twists on German classics all make this place awesome. The steins decor and atmosphere are welcoming and give you a feeling of Europe in South Florida. Love their large beer selection as well! Prost!

This was my first time getting German food. I was pleasantly surprised by the crispy freshness of the chicharròn, it was an absolute delicious appetizer. And the sausage was a burst of flavor for each of my samples. My boyfriend is a regular and swears on this spot for German cuisine . It was a nice Saturday afternoon not very busy and they set up space to safely distance from other. I enjoy my first experience with some German dishes.

Second time here and I must say we loved it just as much as the first time! Only regret is that we didn’t come more often before moving from pompano beach. Both visits waitresses have been very pleasant while pretty busy I must add. They start you off with pretzels, rye bread, mustard and butter. Pretty yummy. The pork schnitzel is a winner. So we had to get it again with the mash and the gravy on the side. We have a thing for adding our own sauces. We don’t like soggy food so 90% of the time we opt for sauce on the side. The pork is cooked to perfection with the perfect batter. This time we tried the Bavarian onion apple soup and it was like the best French onion soup I’ve ever had! (Remember how I said we don’t like soggy…) so we got the bread/croutons that go in the soup on the side. They were crunchy, spicy and delicious. We also tried the potato salad this time. It’s served hot or cold we got it hot and it was also really tasty! If you’re in pompano beach and want a delicious hot meal you must check them out! The lunch prices and daily specials are pretty great! We’re all about good deals!

Trusty German food with exceptional, consistent service each time. They start you off with a complimentary bread basket, butter and pretzels. The bread was fresh and pretzels were warm. A really great way to relax into a meal. Started with a refreshing Bitburger. Can’t seem to ever go wrong with it. The onion soup which was tasty and cheesy. Real good comforting stuff. The sausage sampler and veal schnitzel were outstanding. The place is very cozy with steins of all the people who completed the eleven Das Boot beer challenge. Good stuff, all in all.

Wow, I can’t believe I have t come to place sooner. I really dig the food here. Place is clean, service is great, bar area, and now outdoor seating. I tried a variety of food over the two visits. Currently working of the beer tour that gets your name on the wall. Go to the website for more info. Highly recommend if you’re in pompano. They take reservations.

We really love this place. We first visited 6 years ago while on our honeymoon. Now back in the area we had to go back. Their food is sooo good! Service is great, and staff is friendly. It's decorated all over with beer steins among other things. If you like German food, or just good food in general I highly recommend.

Get your Octoberfest on at this place. I love the Bavarian vibe with Octoberfest mugs adorning the walls. They even have a drinking program and after so many liters you are on the Wall of Fame. The sauerkraut was delish and does well with many of the very heavy dishes.

Very relaxed and enjoyable place to eat! The service and taste was excellent with many ethnic food/drink options and combinations. Very helpful waitstaff that recommended delicious entrees, too full to order desserts but will return next time with a plan. Amazing promotion ongoing for the Beer Steins, you will want to partake. I spent 5 yrs in Germany and highly recommend this locale.

My favorite bar for beer and they also have wickedly tasty food. The staff is attentive and will help you if you are lost on what it is you should order to drink or eat. The atmosphere takes you to an old style European pub. I love to go here to drink, read and write. Also, after having a few of the liter beers, get you some authentic German dinner and then continue on your drinking.

Last time I was in Germany was about 5 years ago and this place is authentic in the food and decor and friendliness of the staff that reminds me of the wonderful experiences I had! My boyfriend ordered the stuffed schnitzel and I ordered the 2lb pork shank which reminded me of the festivals with the crunchy exterior and the way the meat just fell off the bone. If you're in the mood for traditional german food and beer, do yourself a favor and cone here. There's a bit of a wait (we went on a Saturday night) but it's worth it! Thank you for letting me relive these moments and continue being awesome, Checkers!

This place is nicely decorated and has a very homey atmosphere. German mugs and plates are all over the walls and the dining room resembles more a European small restaurant than your typical American eatery. At lunch, on a Saturday, they were pretty busy, but service was quick and attentive anyway. The food, if you like German food, is definitely on the best of its kind in South Florida and very closed to the real German food, unlike other places where the menu is heavily Americanized. I had the Kombination platter and the sausages are very good; so are the potato pancakes. They have a good selection of German beers, priced pretty much all of them at $ 8.50 for half liter, that’s a bit more than a pint. Definitely a place I will stop by again, good food, good beer, good service and a nice ambiance.

Good lunch menu with Bavarian music playing and patrons’ steins lining the walls. We had the schnitzel with jager gravy. Everything was good.

Great place! The looking for authentic German cooking, this is the place! The staff make this place run like clockwork; they were on their A game; kudos to them. We had a Friday 7:00 table, it was busy, then it filled up with people waiting. A good mix of locals, snowbirds and tourists looking for something a bit different. Entertainment on the covered patio out back. Great vibe ! Will gladly return any time. Parking can be tight, just use the valet.

I’ve been wanting to try this place and finally got a chance to. When you walk through the door, the decor is like a traditional, cozy, and rustic pub which makes it feels like you been transported to little German town. The service was EXCELLENT Rod took such great care of us, and since this was all of our first time trying German food, he helped point us in the right direction as far as drinks and food suggestions. To drink I ordered the Black Forest margarita, which was absolutely delicious my friend ordered schweinsteiger (German Mojito) which she really liked also. For my meal I ordered SCHWEINHAXEN PORK SHANK, it was perfect crispy and moist and for my sides I ordered the red cabbage and the spatzle. One of my friends ordered the BLACKFOREST CHICKEN with spatzle and mashed potatoes, and the other one CHICKEN PAPRIKA with the German potato salad(definitely a must try) and applesauce. Last but not least we got the apple strudel for dessert. Everything was very tasty and flavorful. There were so many things I wanted to try so we’ll definitely be back!

This is a small mom and pop German restaurant that has a very foreign feel to it. It has some fun decor and service was good. Our waiter suggested the Bavarian platter and a pork dish. Everything we had tasted great, although the pork loin was very dry and pretzel was a bit stale. It was a great experience and we had so much fun.

I love everything about Germany; I also lived there many years ago and still crave their food, even though… I’m Italian (so please, don’t repeat this to my Italian family and friends!). I was therefore very happy to find out about this restaurant and to hear good reviews about it; and of course, I went to try it as soon as we could. The restaurant was opened back in 1982 by a German chef, and the tradition is now continued by his nephew. We came here on a Saturday for lunch: it was barely noon and the place was already packed (they open at 7am). Their parking lot is very small and was already full when we arrived, but we did manage to find a spot across the street. You first enter their long and narrow bar, and from there a door takes you to the dining room. In the dining room you feel as if you were in a German restaurant, and their walls are literally covered by German Beer Mugs and Boots – all of them with plaques with names on it. These plaques are part of the “German Beer Tour” that the restaurant began in 2012, which sounds like fun! What you have to do to participate is first to request a “German Beer Tour Passport”, which list all of the 30 draft (imported) beers offered by the restaurant. This passport will keep track of your drinks: once you have drunk all the 30 German beers, you become a “Deutsche Bier Meister” (German Beer Master) and receive your own plaque on the wall, a German beer tour T-Shirt, and “Das Boot” to take home. Apparently you can complete your “journey” at your own pace, so even if we don’t live very close to this location, I may request my passport next time we go! I love “Leberwurst”, so once I saw it on the menu, I ordered it without even checking the other dishes. Even if I ordered it in the size of “appetizer”, the portion was really big. It was so good that I ate it all nevertheless. I also tasted some of the food that our friends ordered (pancakes and various sausages), and liked them all! The service is very good and fast, and the prices are very decent, above all considering the big portions. They also have HH from Sunday to Friday, offering ½ off all their imported draft beers. I look forward to coming back!

Tim Cronkhite

They have a small parking lot in back that's valet on some days. We picked a good day it wasn't crazy busy. They have a beer club and if you join and drink so many beers you get a Stein on the way with your name on it. We were a good size group and our waiter 11/6 did an amazing job. We never had to wait for anything he was right there if we needed anything absolutely the best service. The food was amazing and definitely very German they have all the favorites. You really have to see it to believe it. Tonight outside our waitress was the best this place is always so friendly and the live music was awesome

R

I had the pork schnitzel with spaetzle and potato pancakes. My wife ordered the Jager schnitzel with applesauce. We took a piece of black forest cake to go. Everything was delicious, and the atmosphere was really cool. Will definitely be going back.

Top notch in all regards except one (availability of parking). This place serves up the best authentic German food in the area dining rooms decorated with decorative beer steins on all of the walls. Our waiter was efficient and attentive to all our needs. But what was best of all was the beer and the food. We had the Oktoberfest Märzen Hacker Pschorr on draught and loved it. Prost! For dinner, we give high marks to the wurst platters and schnitzel meals. Fortunately, we still had room for dessert and the German Chocolate Cake and Apple Strudel were both rich with flavor and simply delicious. We hesitated about coming here for a long time because of all the horror stories about parking. For that reason, we chose to come on Sunday night an hour or so before closing, when Checkers was least busy. This worked and we parked in their back lot. As a result, we are so happy with our enjoyable dinner at Checkers

Excellent German/Austrian food! Served as soon as we sat down - rye bread and soft pretzel bites with grainy mustard - nice touch. Started with the bratwurst & knockwurst appetizer served with spicy mustard and sauerkraut, all very tasty. Opted for the veal schnitzel (I usually prefer pork) It was very tender with just the right thickness and breading. Some places don't pound it thin enough, but this was perfection. A pint of Paulaner was just the ticket to complete a great meal. Looking forward to seeing you again !

Nice German restaurant! Good for a date and for groups. Might be a bit noisy, but it makes the whole experience even better. Food is great! Everybody liked their dish. Very nice beer selection! The best part they have beer degustation log. You fill out the “form” and keep track of all beers you have tried there. They keep the “form”, so every time you come in you can ask for it. Very cool idea. 🙂

This German restaurant has been there for years ! The goulash is truly delicious ! Had a white chocolate raspberry coffe! So tasty it could be a delicious dessert ! The hostess was very friendly and efficient even learned our names! Very delicious food! Had fish with 2 vegetable sides! My friends enjoyed the food and hospitality! Small quaint place. Close to beach less than a mile. Good place to try. Certain days life music in thr back.

We have a German restaurant we love in Columbus, Ohio and were craving some German. The veal schnitzel was perfect. Crisp coating on tender veal - great taste. The warm German potato salad was better than what my mother used to make. The spaetzel was the perfect addition. For me the cabbage was just a little overcooked, but still a good counter point for the other flavors on the plate. I only gave 4 stars for atmosphere because we were stuck next to a large - very noisy - family so our dinner conversation was impossible. Oh...the beer was good too.

We came here to enjoy a little bit of the end of Oktoberfest and we love German beers and food. We got a Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest, Märzan bee (5.8%) I just can said was delicious!! Additionally we got Sausage Sampler: Bratwurst, Knockurst, pepper and cheese bratwurst, chicken and apple sausage. It’s come with cabbage German style… it was “ok” we were missing the hot sausage and I can suggest to add more vinegar to the cabbage. Additionally as a gift from our “close neighbors” we had a “homemade apple strudel” which was good. The atmosphere is great, I’ve love the decoration and the most important and nice was the costumer service. Joe was the person in charge of us tonight and he was awesome and he went beyond improving his great Spanish.

B
Bunny Harlow

The food was really good! Very large portions so I wish I could have ate it all. I got the pork schnitzel with spatzel and applesauce. Applesauce tasted a little weird, but everything else was delicious! I also recommend the German red wine "Dornfelder", if you like wines on the sweater end of the spectrum.

I’ve been coming here for almost 20 years and can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it yet! Checkers is where you go to feel like family. The staff is so welcoming and the food is great. I love the selection of beers both bottled and tap. They recently added a full liquor bar and even an outdoor seating area with live music. Definitely come in for a great time!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Checkers , This German restaurant is a true gem, delivering an authentic and delightful dining experience. The food was nothing short of amazing—every dish burst with rich, traditional flavors, from the perfectly crispy schnitzel to the burgers , The ambience was equally impressive, with a warm, cozy atmosphere that transported me straight to a charming Bavarian tavern. A special shoutout to our server, Rodrigo, who went above and beyond to make our evening unforgettable. His attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and spot-on recommendations elevated the entire experience. Congrats to Rodrigo and the entire team for creating such a wonderful dining destination! I can’t wait to return!

It took a bit longer to receive the food but besides that an absolutely wonderful atmosphere with lots of dishes that you won’t find at your local restaurant chain. Great lunch special options reasonably priced. Burgers were delicious too. Great selection of German beers

First time visiting and already one of my favorites! Rodrigo was our server and added so much to the experience we’re definitely requesting him again next time. He was knowledgeable of the menu, gave great suggestions and had such a friendly persona we felt incredibly welcomed. I’ve ordered the catch of the day which was a massive grouper fillet with choice of two sides, I followed our server suggestion and had the hot potato salad with bacon! My husband ordered the Stroganoff with fries which honestly was the best I’ve tried in ages and will have it myself on our next visit. Our friend had the Bavarian Platter and man that was huge! We were all very happy to have found this place! Every single item in the menu is fairly priced and our bill was just under 100 so we were happy to be generous towards our server since there isn’t many places to visit with such genuine welcoming service, rich flavors, generous portion and low price. 10/10

"Beam me up Scottie." 🫠👽 I found myself immersed in a German bulit timemachine, transported by fine Atlantic sea air meeting gracious German classics 🥨. I admired everything, but mostly the adherence to fine detail from the menu layout, dining decor, and plate execution to birthday celebrations 🍾. Regardless, a special or ordinary night will be one under German stars 🌟.

We have not visited since pre pandemic, but I feel the experience, service & food quantity is now better than ever. This truly is the real deal in German cuisine. All food was served hot and well prepared. To be honest the portions are enough to share. Great beer selection as well. We are going to return more frequently.

We have been coming here since 1983 and am sure I have reviewed this place before. But when the restaurant is outstanding, another review is in order. The service is great and the staff works like a well oiled machine. There is very little we haven’t ordered from the menu and everything is prepared perfectly. If you want authentic German food, you can’t miss this place. Make sure you leave room for dessert!

Aurhentic food with a lot of great decor and history! Friendly, attentive serves. Great beer selection. I recommend the fried munster cheese with vinegarette, bratwurst and potatoe pancakes.

Family celebrations to me always mean a good meal out somewhere. To celebrate our wedding anniversary this year the whole family met at Checkers Old Munchen in Pompano. It was my first time in, and they certainly impressed our entire party! Since we are a group of 8, I had made a reservation online ahead of time, and a nice large table by the front window was waiting when we arrived. Instantly you can feel the "comfort of home" vibe in this place. Our server, Rodrigo was great and offered lots of personal choice experiences to help us navigate the menu. We started with a "Kombinationen Platte" appetizer with a potato pancake, sauerkraut, bratwurst, and knackwurst. Before we could even order that, basket of freshly baked pretzel bites was delivered to the table along with a nice side of whole-grain mustard. That could be the best "bread basket" I've ever had! Of course we had to order a few drinks while we waited for the rest of the family (we arrived early) and one entire side of the menu is beers, wines, and specialty drinks. Once the whole family assembled we needed a few extra minutes to narrow down our entree choices -- there were more entrees that we wanted to order than we had adult mouths to feed! In the end, we tried the Chicken Paprika, Pork Stroganoff, Stuffed Schnitzel, Chicken Schnitzel (x2), Kids Brats & Knocks, and a Sauerbraten. The food came up quickly, and the portions were HUGE... we all had leftovers to bring home, but that didn't stop us from sampling the dessert menu! Homemade Apple Strudel, German Chocolate Cake, and Strawberry Sponge Cake. The only problem with the desserts was that it now meant we had to ask for MORE boxes to take the rest of the desserts home, too! This was the largest savings I've ever had with my Kind Diners Card - $59! (In hindsight, that should have been limited to $50, but I didn't notice it in time) Special thanks to the whole crew at Checkers Old Munchen - they did a fantastic job! I know we will be back many times in the future.

Sehr gut. Lecker! Better Rouladen than I make. A must try. Meat was very tender. Gravy fantastic. We also had a side of potato pancakes that were so good. Perfectly made. Staff was accommodating and pleasent. Nice German atmosphere. The only minor criticism is that they don't play German music. I think this would add to the ambience.

Incredibly delicious food, very pleasant atmosphere, live music, but above all the service of the staff was incredibly spectacular, we will return and recommend them, 100% recommended. I regret not remembering the waiter's name, he was a super friendly bearded guy.

Had the absolute best German meal I've had outside of Germany ( and I lived there several years) Cozy and 100% German decor, very friendly and attentive service. Perfect schnitzel, perfect wurst and the black forest cake was straight out of Oma's kitchen. Absolutely recommend!!

The service and food were exceptional, surpassing my initial expectations of dining on Portuguese cuisine at Vinhus. After a disappointing experience elsewhere, I found myself questioning my 30-minute drive, but upon arriving at Checkers Old Munchen Germany, I was pleasantly surprised. The bartenders provided excellent service, and the food was delightful. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment. Additionally, the manager fosters a family atmosphere among the staff, which further enhances the overall experience.

A great little spot on Atlantic! I had the chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes—delicious. The service was excellent—attentive and friendly. It wasn’t too busy, and the mature crowd made for a pleasant atmosphere. Take time to look and admire the beer steins while you're there.

We had reservations at Vinhus next door but walked out because of poor service and not getting waited on for 15 minutes. Walked next door to Checkers and we were waited on immediately and had a complimentary pretzel and mustard while we ordered drinks and our food! Staff was beyond amazing and the food was incredible! We are moving to the area and perhaps the restaurant next door could learn from the crew here!! Just moved to the area and we will be back with friends! Thank you!!

It was a quiet lunch time when we arrived. The staff was friendly, attentive to service. Waitress suggested a wheat beer for me to try. She was right in the spot with our needs and tastes. I’m sure evening crowd would be busy and would be interesting to see beer garden outside with music.

Service was great as well as the atmosphere. I found the food to be a little bland, However, once salt and peppered it was much better.

My first time here and first time in a German place also. The food is so good! I am impressed and I wanna come back to try more things. Beautiful place and full of people! The service was disappointing; we said that it was our first time there and we asked for recommendations and some explanation about some dishes, she gave it to us but the answers were so cold and fast that we felt that we were bothering our server. We appreciate that the rest of the team was pain attention all the time so they help us. Desserts are huge and delicious. We will come back!

My grandparents came to the USA from Germany so I was raised with German food. My family even had a chocolate factory when Grandpa was young. The food was good good but nothing compared to my grandma's cooking, of course! At least what I remember! The service was excellent.

Place is really cool, with the walls covered in beer steins and the names of those who have drank all their German beers. Food was very good, even though it seemed to take a long time to get. I really like that they give you a basket of fresh pretzel bites to nosh on while looking over the extensive menu.

Visited Checkers on a very busy Friday night. We made a reservation with Resy. We arrived a little before our reservation time and were seated about 20 minutes past the reservation time. The host didn't seem too concerned with seating reservations before walk-ins. The server was friendly and attentive. The kitchen seemed a bit slow. Food was good by South Florida standards. Prices are fair.

What a wonderful wall decoration of Stein mugs for repeat customers, and I love that the staff are very attentive to our needs. I wish my schnitzel didn't come on this type of bread but it was good anyways. I'd be back. The chicken noodle soup was amazing though.

Very good food and beer. Need authentic German music. I have been going here for years now. Tonight, something seemed just a bit different with the food. Still very good but not quite the same. Possibly a change in the kitchen staff. Was a little disappointed with the Weisen bier selection on draft. Only one and it was only a 2.8% alc by vol. No real German would drink this watered-down version. Get back on point here folks. Update 4/16/24. Stopped in for dinner with a friend of mine. We were both in the mood for some quality German food. We started off with a liter of weisen beer. Then we moved on to a wertz platter appetizer. After this, it was the main event. Weinerschnitzel and spatzel. The food was great tonight, as was the beer and the service. We didn't leave here hungry or disappointed. 6/9/26 update. Again, another amazing meal with fantastic service and an excellent beer

This was my first time trying German food, outside of a pretzel or bratwurst. I visited during lunch hours - the place was nicely tucked away and not crowded. Plenty of German decorative drinking mugs line the wall - if you want to earn a mug on the wall you can. The server I had was fairly new to the lunch hours, so there were some delays. She was a bit old, so to the point! If you know the northeast attitude, then you get it. I like the chicken schnitzel (they have a variety of different schnitzels) which comes with gravy. Two sides came with the meal: I got the red cabbage, which is a pickled cabbage (the pickledness was very strong) and I got the potato dumpling (kinda like a giant gnocchi). For dessert, we got the German chocolate cake and the apple strudel. The strudel was my favorite - it was light and not overly sweet. Highly recommend the strudel.

Sat in the bar area as it was super busy, bartender was over worked and forgot us a couple of times. She made it right which I greatly appreciated just looked like she needed some additional help. For the workload she was great, just slow service because of that. Food was great.

Stationed in Germany and being married to a German wife for 39 years has allowed me to eat many different German dishes from Bavaria and also the Northern region of Germany. I ordered the veal schnitzel, which was tender and tasted great. The two side orders that I chose were mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Plenty of brown gravy was served on a gravy server! The red cabbage had a little too much vinegar, making it a little sour but edible. Before the meal, pieces of soft pretzels in a bowl were served with a small dish of stone ground mustard, which was a nice touch. Prices are on the high side for the simple guesthouse atmosphere .

I had not been in here in a while, so I was surprised to see the new bar they added on. I looked great, was nice and cool on that side, so we sat in there. Also there was live music which was nice. I ordered my go-to Jager Schnitzel, spatzel, and red cabbage. The Schnitzel was made perfectly, the Jager gravy was very bland, and the red cabbage was so strong it made my tongue feel burned. We tried 2 other gravy options but still very bland. It seems like it's the same gravy base with different add-ins. I will go and try again and will update this review if the food is back to the amazing experience I've had so many times before. The staff was fantastic, very friendly and attentive.

Nice place for lunch. Reasonable prices, especially considering you get a bread and pretzel basket with your order. I had e chicken schnitzel sandwich. Chicken portion was good sized and the bread was a decent multi wheat instead of a white bread bun. Beers are big but so is the price tag on them. Very friendly staff at lunch and great collection of regular customer beer steins on the walls.

Cute German environment with beer steins everywhere. Our server was very pleasant. Complimentary bread basket of pretzels pieces and brrad were provided with mustard and butter. I had French toast and a bratwurst. The brat was okay but not much flavor. My French toast was fine. My friend had to send her lunch back without eating. Although to be fair the server offered her something else from the menu. But she was exasperated and just wanted to leave. She ordered the 2 pound shank, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. The shank was very dry and overcooked, the potatoes tasted off and the sauerkraut tasted bad. The server said she had the shank that very morning and it was moist and delicious. She was, however, very nice about take the entree off of our bill. Also other reviewers have enjoyed the shank. It must just have been an off day in the kitchen.

A solid choice for German food. The Schnitzel was good but the Schweinehaxe was toooo fatty and required surgery to get to the pork. Potato pancake could be better.

Me and my friends went to try this place for the first time at lunch time. We were expecting something really good as they have very good reviews. Unfortunately food was cold. Service though was great!! The German lady who served us was friendly and professional.

My first time here after years of attempts. For the most part, good, with the exceptions of parking (you'll have to cross Atlantic), and my meal (pork shank) was over cooked. The other atmosphere issue came from their outdoor seating... The smell from the dumpster is unacceptable for the location. If you're going to have outdoor seating, even with live music, you can't smell garbage like that. The bier selection is top tier but standard for German fare.

Disappointing Experience – Wouldn’t Return We visited this German restaurant today, and while the decor was quite traditional and inviting, the experience quickly went downhill. We ordered our meals, but when they arrived, the food was simply inedible—far from fresh, with a strange smell that made it impossible to eat. The server never checked on us or asked if everything was okay. When we asked for the bill, there was no concern about our untouched plates. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere was not welcoming, and I wouldn’t return.

I am in town visiting my mom, who brought me here for dinner on a Saturday around 5:30 pm. First impression was the restaurant is very loud, so much so, my mom and I could not have a conversation. Our server was very nice and did a great job. She brought us a complimentary basket of soft pretzel bites with mustard, and that was very good! The pretzels were fresh, warm, soft and chewy. Mmmmm. Then we had an appetizer of potato pancakes which were also delicious.  We both ordered Veal Wiener Schnitzels with mashed potatoes and the green bean medley. The veal was placed over the top of the potatoes and green bean medley, and the veal was very hot and tasty. The potatoes were warm, the green bean medley was ice cold and tasted weird. Since I was full from the pretzel bites and potatoes pancakes, I was only able to eat about a third of the meat and potatoes, so I took the remainder to go. The next day, I removed the leftovers from the Styrofoam container onto a plate, which I heated in a microwave. The green beans were inedible. I scraped them into the trash, which was heartbreaking because I LOVE green beans, but BLECH!!! 🤢 As I was eating the meat and potatoes, I bit down on something hard and sharp. It was a piece of white plastic (picture included with review), which looks as though it could have been part of a hard plastic fork tine. I'm not sure, but it was not cool. Bottom line, everything foodwise was great until the entre arrived. The meat and potatoes were great, but I certainly would NOT recommend the green bean medley. My mom said it tasted like they were soaked in bleach! The atmosphere is very loud and clostraphobic. When we exited the restaurant through the rear exit,  there were tables and tents set up in the parking lot and people were sitting there eating in peace. If you choose to dine here, I would seriously consider sitting out there.

Went for Oktoberfest, which was a bit of a money grab. The employees weren't dressed up, they were playing rock music, and overall didn't feel like they tried very hard outside of serving the restaurant food outside (which was good) and providing beer.

We have been going here for 20 yrs had a bad experience before thought we would try again ...I had the pork schnizel and my husband had the barvarian platter, the pork schnizel was pounded to an extreme that it was dry and about about 2mm in thickness (serious) for 27 it was NO Value! ..My husband had the bavarian platter ...much smaller then i used to be and the sausages where store bought hot dogs deep fried in oil....NOT impressed prices have gone up 50% in the last 3-4 yrs and quality has gone down 80% ...people will catch on. Never see the owner like you used to not what is used to be.

It's not what it used to be. I feel all these recent good reviews are from family and friends. This restaurant was our go to place for all the big holidays but something has changed. No more bread at the table. The portions have significantly shrunk and the service is... meh. Just not warm and friendly as it once was. The quality has gone down but of course - not the prices. We used to feel like family - now we feel like a burden.

Beaware of the place when they have special events. I went to October fest this year, they offered Food and all the beer you can drink for $50. If you purchased in advance it was $42.50. Several of us purchased tickets on line. When we got there and went to the food line we showed them our braclets and they said food was not included you had to go buy tickets. My friend spoke to someone there and he said it was a mistake on their advertising that it was on beer. Who pays $42.50 for a glass of beer? so he gave us each a sauage and a spoonful of sauerkraut. I called two days later to speak to the manger, took 3 phone calls and he called back and said he would talk to the owner...never heard back. Make sure if you buy any pre-sale tickets from this place they are legit. They have lost 4 people business over this.

Used to be a very good restaurant. Cabbage was cold. Dumpling was horrible. You could see cook in the kitchen wiping his sweaty face. No owner or manager on site. Parking situation has always been horrendous.

I went and ordered the number 1 entree that is “they say is their most popular specialty “. Which was the veal breaded schnitzel “. HORRIBLE. It was cooked along time ago and then was refried when I ordered it.

This place used to be a gem, a “ must visit “ in pompano. But recently in the last months, the quality of food and service has gone down tremendously. I am not one to leave bad reviews, but visited twice in the last month and the first time I thought it might’ve just been an off day, as any place could have.. and the second time was even worse, food took forever and was just as cold as the service. Bartender was drinking more than serving both times. The good staff me and friends used to come visit at bar seem to have moved on. Staff was arguing with eachother, and not paying attention to customers.. probably why our food came cold.. I have a feeling as someone else mentioned that most of these recent good reviews are from friends and family.

I wish negative rating was an option. Horrible experience Friday night at their bar I understand it is a “bar” and the atmosphere is different but since when are staff allowed to just vape around in customers faces especially “vapes” that don’t smell just like a regular ecig vape if you know what I mean.!! Me and my wife will never ever be back and you shouldn’t either.
