Witherspoon Grill Princeton Reviews
Shaun was amazingly attentive server. We come to Witherspoon for all our special occasions as a couple, from anniversary to Valentine’s Day and always enjoy our meal. Not once have we been disappointed in 10 years. The crab cake can’t be beat. Thank you Witherspoon for making our date nights so special and personal.
The two times I've come here with my brother I'm always met with a lovely service. Jackie is the best bartender, she makes a mean strawberry mojito and the short rib Mac and cheese is my favorite thing ever! Also the key lime pie does not disappoint! The atmosphere is met by really good music and the chatter people at the makes it such a good vibe for drawing. So good I made a quick doodle. Will be sure to stop by more often for that good food and atmosphere.
Took my father in law here tonight for his birthday and everything was superb. The food, the atmosphere, the wine. Will be my husband’s and I’s new spot to visit for date night. Special thanks to Guillermo who was an amazing and attentive waiter!
Food (5/5): I have only been here two times and both times, I've loved the dishes I order. The food is high quality and leaves you wanting more. Service (5/5): The service was good, although I had a more positive experience my first time dining here. Atmosphere (5/5): It has a great atmosphere and vibe. It was quiet enough that you could converse but loud enough no one could overhear your conversation. The decorations were contemporary and stylish.
Incredible experience, from the moment I walk in. The staff was very friendly. Our waitress i can't remember her name was amazing. Now, let's get to the food. It was delicious, I added the balsamic dressing and steak sauce, not showing to my lambs. omg! I love the crab dip and the calamari. The balsamic on the calamari was chef kiss. My aunt had steak, she loves it. On Tuesday day, I have jazz. I happen to go on a Tuesday, not knowing it was such an amazing time. Will definitely go back. The only issue is with parking, which is not the restaurant fault, more of the popular location. However, I called the restaurant after being frustrated. I couldn't find parking. The manager was so kind to let me know there's a parking garage behind the restaurant. Very inexpensive parking pricing.
Great service. Drink was amazing. Staff was friendly and fast. The ambiance was great. 10 out of 10.
This is one of the best American classic / fine dining restaurants in Princeton. Food and cocktails are always good and the atmosphere is engaging. My salmon was cooked beautifully. My wife had beef short rib which was so rich and amazing. Oysters this time of year are spectacular. Don't skip dessert! The sundae is something to write home about. Also - this restaurant has a good kids menu. Reasonably priced all the way from $6 pasta to $14 steak
Witherspoon Grill in Princeton, NJ, is a must-visit for a fantastic lunch and top-tier cocktails. The menu is spot-on, offering fresh, flavorful options, but the soup is an absolute must—rich, delicious, and perfect every time. Pair it with one of their expertly crafted cocktails, and you’ve got a winning combo. Heads up: they pause service from 3-4 PM on weekends, so plan accordingly. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual lunch or a relaxing drink, Witherspoon Grill delivers every time. Great food, great drinks, and a prime location in the heart of Princeton—what more could you ask for?
Excellent evening as always — William, our server and Jamie the best bartender ever are simply amazing.
Lunch 3/14/25 and our server was Noel he was professional and very through without being intrusive. We were a party of 3 and I enjoyed the warm goat cheese salad with chicken and I tried the ahi and avacado martini starter. Both were delicious and both were hearty portions. The decor is nice and the location has a paid parking lot and paid street parking around it. My husband had a chicken sandwich and fries and really enjoyed it. Our guest was turning 60 and we celebrated with a scoop of ice cream and a candle to sing happy birthday. All in all a wonderful dining experience and we will be back!
Food was incredible. Randy was a fantastic server. We'll be back. Liam and Katie
This restaurant is top notch 👌🏼 I dined in here on Friday evening and since we got sat until we left the experience has been amazing. All the bussers were very attentive, made sure our water glasses were always full, our server Ana was great and the food was absolutely amazing, the ribeye and lamb chops were cooked to perfection. The ambiance was really nice too. I would definitely come back!
Very nice place and very friendly and attentive staff. My friend had calamari apetizer which was fantastic, followed by shrimp rigatoni which was just as good. I had lobster bisque which was excellent, but the steak with poivre sauce I ordered had much too much fat. But I've been here before and it's always been excellent, hence the 5 star rating.
Five star experience at a very elegant restaurant with high-quality food and an expensive menu. Outdoor seating and very comfortable air-conditioned indoor interior. Very comfortable seating. ~> If you like my review please press follow on my google profile. Met a couple of friends here, since the Princeton area was halfway between us. The food and service was delightful. We started with the Ahi Tuna and avocado Martini, which was delicious and I had the pulled brisket sandwich. One person had the lobster roll (it was a smaller portion than expected), another had a huge chicken sandwich l, and the last had the steak salad. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and had a fabulous time. We would come back to the area again to dine here.
This is our go to Princeton restaurant. Just consistently great (food, service, drinks!, ambience) after so many years. It’s a gem. Jamie the head bartender is the best!
Our server Shawn was fantastic. Highly recommend the duck and the lobster bisque! Will definitely be coming back
What an awesome restaurant nestled in downtown Princeton! We stopped in for a lunch meeting as Witherspoon Grill was located conveniently for everyone. We arrived early, just after they opened for lunch. Initially it seemed they might have half of the seats spoken for but as noontime arrived the entire main dining room and bar was filled nearly to capacity! We started with fresh oysters of which they had four varieties on hand. We enjoyed a dozen oysters of two types which were fresh and tasty! Following with shrimp 🍤 cocktails, they were quite large probably 16/20 count, tender sweet and very enjoyable! Our main courses were delivered shortly after as they must be mindful of the limited time most have for lunch. These included the 14 oz Dry Aged KC Strip steak, very tasty, juicy and wonderful (hint: you can order from the dinner menu if you’d like a larger steak portion). Sirloin steak salad with steak cooked to perfection (medium rare), that was a great looking salad! The lighter choice was the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Everyone was well pleased with their choices and the service was great, always nearby, but not hovering over us... overall a great lunch and the service was pleasantly efficient. Thanks for a great lunch Witherspoon Grill!
I've been to witherspoon grill about 10 times in the past few years and every time is just as delicious as the last. All of the food I've tried is great. I usually get the burger - it's phenomenal! I also tried the chicken cesar salad one time and it was good. The food is just really fresh and great quality. The service is good too. The inside is nice, but I prefer sitting outside when it's warm and good weather
Great place and ambiance overall. Very upscale and classy feeling throughout. The crab and artichoke dip was amazing along with the pork chop. Definitely going back. On the pricier side but it is a steakhouse in Princeton.
The food here was amazing! I had the short ribs. They were so good!! The dessert was the best! We had the pound cake with strawberries and a chocolate peanut butter lava cake. We all had a really good experience here and I definitely would go back.
The food was very fresh, great flavors, and a wide variety drink menu. Outdoor seating was beautiful and very much enjoyed my meal here. Will be back!
First time dining at Witherspoon after looking for oysters nearby and came upon this restaurant. The food was delicious!! Oysters had a variety of sizes and were amazing. The short rib was so juicy and soft you could easily cut through. The waiters were very attentive and the wait was not long for meals. Highly recommend! Beautiful atmosphere and lights for the festive holiday.
Our party enjoyed a wonderful double date night at the Witherspoon Grill in Princeton. Our server Jason was charismatic and prompt. Support staff made sure my water was always filled. The Rack of Lamb was cooked to perfection and will definitely bring me back to try some other steak options.
Great experience dining here for a girls dinner! Jumbo shrimp rigatoni was so good and flavorful! Mashed potatoes were perfect too.
My friend and I had a great experience at Witherspoon Grill! From the start, our server Noris greeted us with her warm smile and made the perfect recommendation for a blood orange mojito (a must try for sure). The ambiance was upscale cozy and the food was delicious. We had the short rib mac and cheese, seasonal warm goat cheese salad, and some fries which were all delectable. The manager Danielle was extremely friendly and personable and made sure we felt welcome to the restaurant. I would definitely recommend stopping in Witherspoon Grill on your next day in Princeton!
Even though our party’s reservation was for 7:45pm, and the restaurant closed at 8pm, we were still served very well none the less! I was SO happy with our waiter. I didn’t get his name; but he had earrings, a mustache beard combo, reddish hair (might’ve been the lighting), on the shorter side, white guy. EXCELLENT WAITER, It was my grandmother’s 91st birthday and he was SO courteous and nice. Excellent service, even though he was given a table of 9 and was by himself. $100+ tip for him!! If he sees this, you deserve every dime, you seem like a you have a beautiful soul! He also had a gorgeous smile. ANYWAYS, enough about the waiter. The food was great, came out at a great time as well. The calamari was great, although I didn’t get a picture of it. 9.5/10 would most likely come back, definitely because of the waiter lol
We had such a great visit! The food was excellent, especially the bacon appetizer and zucchini straws. The manager Danielle was absolutely wonderful - kind, attentive, and on top of everything. Thank you!
Had lunch on Saturday, and was quite astonished by how the customers- especially one older woman- treated the hosts. The nice young woman was completely disrespected, I heard the whole encounter. Food was stellar, as well as service. I hope management takes control of situations where service staff is being berated.
Shawn is exceptionally pleasant and attentive. Our dining experience at Witherspoon was awesome. When we come back we hope to have him again.
This place was a great experience. And Shawn was the best!! He was very courteous and even remembered it was date for us. Food was great. We had the salmon and the ravioli and highly recommend. The best espresso Martinis we have ever had!
I went here with my family. Everything we ordered was great. The spinach/artichoke dip was awesome. My daughter ordered the Cobb salad and it was great. i got the short rib sandwich and it was amazing The two kids both got chicken tenders and fries- must have been good, because they are everything. The beer selection is awesome! I'd definitely like to come back if I'm in Princeton again.
Witherspoon grill is our most favorite restaurant in Princeton, and truly never disappoints. First and foremost, Danielle is the most wonderful hostess, she knows us by name, and always takes care of us. Secondly, no matter our server, it’s always the best service. Tonight happened to be Shaun, and he was on point, just like everything else about Witherspoon. The food is always so incredible, especially the crab cakes, my wife is always disappointed when trying the crab cakes at any other establishment, and always says “it’s not like Witherspoon” We will always be patrons of this wonderful restaurant!
I’ve been dining at The Witherspoon Grill for many years, graduations, birthdays, celebrations, etc. They never fail to impress. The food is consistently delicious—every visit have been excellent. The steak is cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and the seafood is surprisingly excellent for a steakhouse—definitely worth trying. The old fashioned is strong and expertly crafted, a perfect complement to the meal. On top of the fantastic food, the service is always attentive and friendly, making each visit a pleasure. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Witherspoon Grill to anyone looking for top-notch cuisine, a great cocktails, and attentive service.
I’ve played music at Witherspoon many times so I’m very familiar with it. We had family in from Vermont celebrating my wife’s birthday, a table of 10 with a four year old and one year old. Our server Mike was great. At the end of the night he said “what a beautiful family we have” the experience was very enjoyable, exactly what we expected.
Overall delicious!!! We had lunch around 1:00 & wasn’t overly crowded. We ate outside and the seating arrangements were good. They were dog friendly and brought my dog out a bowl of water without being asked! We did order an iced tea and it never came. I ordered the Cabo Grilled Shrimp Salad & it was superb! Wonderfully made and was filling. The shrimp were big but I wish I had 5 or 6 pieces instead of 4. We got the Baked Five Onion Soup and it was AMAZING. Rich & flavorful! Yum! The Lobster Bisque soup was great too! It has decent sized pieces of lobster in it so it was very tasty. My husband got the BBQ Short Rib Sandwich. He said it was delicious, but the BBQ sauce was on the sweeter side. He told me it’s an “8/10.” The pickles that come on the side were soft; we enjoy a good snappy crunch in our pickles. Overall, this place was awesome and I recommend going! The menu is fresh and there’s enough options for anybody to find something that appeals to them. With the items pictured, our bill was $74 before tip. Great place!!
Witherspoon Grill in Princeton has become one of my go-to spots, and for good reason. Each visit has been consistently enjoyable, leaving me eager to return. One standout aspect is their fig-infused Old Fashioned, a cocktail that perfectly balances sweetness and sophistication. It's a must-try for any cocktail enthusiast. The seafood tower is another highlight that never fails to impress. It’s a fantastic way to start the meal, featuring a fresh and varied selection of seafood that is both visually stunning and delicious. Moving on to the entrees, I’ve always found them to be reliably pleasant. Whether I’m in the mood for steak, seafood, or something else, the quality and flavors are consistently excellent. The ambiance and service further elevate the dining experience, making it a place I look forward to visiting again and again. If you’re in Princeton and looking for a spot that delivers good food and drinks every time, Witherspoon Grill is definitely worth checking out.
It's a very cozy and beautiful restaurant in the center of Princeton. The food was well prepared and tasty, although nothing extraordinary. The service was polite and friendly. Unfortunately, our server forgot one main dish and one drink. Not the worst experience, but wish it didn't happen.
Location is perfect and they have great outdoor seating which is awesome. Drink options were very good. The bread offered was cold and we asked for it to be warmed up. We tried their oysters sampler and was very good. Overall a decent experience.
Food and drinks were good, specifically the sides i.e. mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The pork chop was okay, had a burnt taste and was very dry even with the blueberry sauce. The chicken was seasoned well and was not dry. The bread was phenomenal and ultimately that is why I gave this spot a 4/5 for food.
Great food and atmosphere. I’ve eaten here a few times and have enjoyed every meal. Keep in mind it is a high end place, so it’s pricy. Food and service are always great. Calamari is excellent!
Classic old school steakhouse with everything you would expect including a raw bar and Frank Sinatra backround music. Table Service is surprisingly good considering the crowd. They also have outdoor dining.
Great location for this upscale eatery. Reservation on weekend is required. We were luck to get a table at the patio. Food was good but not great. Service was fantastic. Definitely worth visiting. Big portion sizes.
We have been here a couple of times and the issue is consistent. As soon as you arrive the hostess always sets the wrong tone. Your first impression counts and on both occasions the hostess who greets you has an unpleasant and blunt demeanor. Thankfully the rest of the staff are much friendlier, professional and engaging. The drinks are well served and the food is excellent. Each dish was well presented, good sizing and wonderful flavor.
Ate here last week. Was a notch below special. The steak and potato was average - strip had neither tenderness nor depth of flavor. Service was off a bit. Appetizers and salads were very good. Atmosphere was nice.
Had reservations with a friend on a Friday at 6:30pm. Place was super packed already but we were seated immediately. I ordered the blood orange martini and later on a white martini. Both were delicious and served fast. For an app I ordered the tuna avocado martini which was fresh, seasoned perfectly, and also arrived quickly. However our entrees didn't get to us until 8pm. I ordered the strip steak (medium) with mac and cheese side and my friend got the filet mignon (medium rare) with a baked potato side. I figured they went out to pick the cow for slaughter with how long it took to get to our table. You'd think with the long wait that at least the food would be good right? My strip was supposed to be 12oz but it was smaller than my friend's 8oz filet and it came out charred and overcooked. The mac and cheese was so bland! I don't think it had any salt at all. The fried onions were crispy but also bland and the wedge of tomato is so pointless. It's like the tomato you get in the boring pizza joint salads that have no business even existing. Maybe they think 1/4th of a tomato takes some guilt off all the calories you're about to consume. My friend's baked potato was really sad too. You'd think for $9 they'd do it up for you but it came out like a halved plain Idaho potato with some sides you could put on yourself. My fries were crispy and thankfully well seasoned. We didn't send anything back because if it took an hour to get our entrées, imagine how long we'd have to sit there before we actually got to eat. I ordered the crème brûlée for dessert which actually arrived quickly and tasted great. The crispy burnt sugar on top along with the blueberries were delicious. My friend got the chocolate peanutbutter lava cake which was also delicious. It got served with blueberries which we found a bit odd like they were trying to use up their blueberry inventory and threw it on there for funsies. Not really a fruit I'd say makes sense with peanutbutter. Our waiter was kind but not really attentive. To be fair I wouldn't pay much attention either when food takes an hour to get to tables. Maybe they were out harvesting the tomatoes they make seem so special by mentioning it on the menu (it really is just a plain tomato wedge they throw on your plate). In the end he mistakenly gave us someone else's check.
See the photo. The photo was taken in the shade and not edited in any way. The fries are more orange than creamy pale. (My kid had good fries with his chicken tenders so the comparison was easy). These fries must have been reheated in oil (they were dense and tough). I can get fries made-to-order from McDonalds. Those fries should never have left the kitchen. The grilled shrimp cobb salad was light on ingredients. I had to hunt down the beans, corn and tomatoes. It was approximately 80% iceberg lettuce. I would go with romaine. The menu does not list iceberg. Who still eats iceberg in such a nutrition-conscious time? Go ahead and list iceberg on the menu and watch no one order it.
I’ve been here a few times and normally it’s very good, but we had a family dinner there the day after Christmas and 2 people came home sick after eating the salmon. The service was great and the rest of our food was okay, but for quite a pricey restaurant it was disappointing to have some people end up having to stay up all night after being sick with the food.
I took my husband and sister to this restaurant in Princeton, hoping for a lovely meal while out on the town. We made a reservation and dressed up for what we anticipated would be a fancy dinner. The ambiance was beautiful, though the music was surprisingly loud for a steakhouse. Definitely recommend making a reservation, as the place fills up quickly. We ordered drinks, and unfortunately, they were quite disappointing. We tried the sangria, old fashioned, and a non-alcoholic mule. The mule was the best of the three, while the old fashioned, their signature cocktail, didn’t meet our expectations, and the sangria was overly bitter. The complimentary bread was stale and tough, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. We ordered steaks, a crab cake platter, and mac and cheese with fries as sides. The steak was especially disappointing - lacking seasoning and flavor, which is surprising for a steakhouse. The sides were nothing to write home about, particularly at $15 for a small portion of unseasoned fries. The mac and cheese was bland; I could easily make better at home. The crab cake platter was good, I'll give them that. Service was average but slow - we had to wait quite a while for boxes and the check, and it was difficult to flag someone down. I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, as it may have been an off night, but overall, everything from the drinks to the sides left us wanting more. Given the prices, I wouldn't say it was worth it.
Ordered a medium rare rib eye steak. It came out of the kitchen way too quickly to have been fresh cooked. It was not hot, it was dry, and it was not medium rare. It truly seemed to have been half cooked and then reheated upon ordering. I used to think of Witherspoon Grill as a steakhouse, but it turns out, it’s not a place to order steak.
