Kitchen Richmond Reviews
Yesterday we held our graduation dinner after completing our six-month internship at this wonderful place. We reserved tables for 15 people, and it truly felt like the entire space was ours, which made the evening very special. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the night. The food was absolutely delicious. Our children were given special care, with a separate kids’ menu prepared just for them — and the pizza for the kids was amazingly good. We enjoyed a variety of seafood salads, all fresh and full of flavor. From the bottom of our hearts, we highly recommend this place. If you are visiting Richmond and looking to host an event, celebrate a birthday, or simply gather with friends, this is definitely a place to visit.
Fantastic restaurant inside hotel lobby. Arrived tired and hungry. Went to see what I could make do with. Wound up having a very fine dining experience. Started with focaccia, arancini were perfection, braised lamb shank melts in your mouth, and a chocolate puck for dessert. All were excellent. Great service and a welcoming environment. Very impressed.
The food and service was great! We had three courses and every single dish was fantastic!!
I had the pleasure of dining at this incredible restaurant, and I’m still dreaming about the meal! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with attentive service that made us feel genuinely cared for. But the true star of the evening was the filet—it was, without question, one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked to a tender medium-rare, it practically melted in my mouth. The seasoning was spot-on, enhancing the natural flavor without overpowering it, and the accompanying sides were just as thoughtfully prepared. This place is a true gem—whether you're celebrating something special or just in the mood for an unforgettable meal, don’t miss it. I’ll definitely be back!
Very good dinner with amazing food and excellent service from Adam. The calamari was delicious. We also had Lamb shank as well Osso buco and carbonara which well prep with nice presentation. Not too many customers and it felt like we had a private dinner only for us
Very delicious food! Highly recommend burrata salad, pesto primavera (veggie pasta), carbonara linguini (classic white sauce and bacon), and Tiramisu! Elegant and quiet place. Also, the service is the extraordinary, nice and warm.
came for thankgiving, absolutely knocked it out of the park. couldn't recommend this place enough, pork chop was sooo yummy. plate was cleaned <3
Dom was soooooo amazing!!! He catered to every need! Thank you for the experience. It was very nice and immersive. He is so creative and is full of energy with great vibes all around!! Happy Friday!!!
Chef’s Kitchen is a hidden gem that delivers top-tier food at an unbeatable price. The standout dish? The lamb shank. Perfectly cooked, fall-off-the-bone tender, and packed with rich flavor. But what really takes it to the next level are the sides—garlic mashed potatoes and garlic spinach. Both are absolute must-tries and could easily steal the show on their own. If you’re looking for incredible quality without the hefty price tag, this place is a no-brainer. Definitely stop here!
Staying at the Berkeley hotel and much to our Surprise we had dinner here at the Chef’s Kitchen. Veal Ossobuco was delicious ( I swapped for the mashed potatoes & spinach instead of risotto ). Beet & Beery salad was to die for. Loved it!! Wife had the scallops and loved them as well.
Classic with a twist of modern Italian cuisine. Excellent wine list with awesome staff! Hidden gem inside The Berkeley Hotel in Richmond Virginia.🤩

Went here for 20th anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. Service was stellar. Quiet and lovely atmosphere—all the fine details. Has the arroncini and scallops for appetizers; delish! Hubby had a delicious filet with mashed potatoes. For me they made heart-shaped ravioli! The passion fruit panna cotta was superb. They even put rose petals on the table and wrote “Happy Anniversary “ on our dessert plate. And the prices were reasonable. Overall a delightful and memorable anniversary dinner. Highly recommend.

My significant other and I visited during lunch time. It was the only time they had available. Dinner time was booked. However, the food was amazing. The service was amazing. Loved spending our 9th anniversary eating lunch at a place that took care of us
The food is the best modern Italian I’ve had in richmond, the chef is an artist! The service is impeccable every time! The atmosphere is very comfortable. I love this hidden gem, it is definitely worth checking out!
We had such an incredible experience at this restaurant. The food was amazing and the servers were very friendly. We are from the DC area and can be pretty snobby but have to say this was an amazing find. Just steps away from the Richmond Mariott Court Yard. You also must try the desert. We had the Panne cotta with Passion fruit. Very special.
Pleasantly surprise tonight. We were in a pinch and needed a nice restaurant last minute. I have never been here before, although it's right across the street from tobacco company, a place I've been many times. The food was good. The atmosphere was excellent. The service was great. It's very quiet inside. The prices are not bad compared to what they offered. I would even dare to say that the prices are pretty good.
Chef’s Kitchen at The Berkeley Hotel absolutely blew me away. I wasn’t expecting one of the best meals I’ve had in Richmond, but that’s exactly what I got. I ordered the pork chop, and it was perfection—thick, juicy, and glazed in the most delicious sauce. The mashed potatoes were fluffy, flavorful, and honestly unforgettable. The roasted vegetable medley tasted so fresh and perfectly seasoned every bite was a burst of flavor. Then came dessert: a creamy passion fruit panna cotta topped with raspberries and served with coconut ice cream. Sweet, tart, silky, tropical—hands down one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time. But the surprises didn’t stop there. Everything we tried was outstanding: • The focaccia bread and olive oil dip — unreal. • The beet salad — fresh and vibrant. • The gnocchi — pillowy and coated in an Alfredo-like sauce that was rich without being heavy. • The salmon — huge portion and cooked perfectly. • The pizzas — large, flavorful, and beautifully baked. • The mushroom risotto — creamy, earthy, and cooked to perfection. • And the calamari — to die for. They weren’t very busy when we visited, which honestly made the experience even better because every dish came out incredibly fresh, hot, and beautifully prepared. If you’re looking for a meal in RVA that feels special from start to finish, Chef’s Kitchen is the place. An absolute gem. I can’t wait to go back. The service and fresh flowers were so charming too.

Delicious Food at The Berkeley Hotel. We happened to walk in on NYE and had a delicious meal. The chef is very talented and a very nice guy. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

Great prosciutto pizza and nice waitstaff, but, um… the Febreze air freshener and proximity of the table to the hotel entrance (the restaurant is “open” with no wall between diners and hotel entryway) kinda damped the ambiance. So I guess it’s not bad if you’re staying at the hotel and don’t have a sensitive nose. Good pizza.
I had a peaceful and relaxing time on my solo date! Ronda was attentive and helpful, and the food was fabulous! I could come solely for the focaccia and bread with oil/balsamic vinegar. Lovely place!
We had a lovely Valentine's Day dinner here. The food was wonderful. We had the beautiful scallops and the bacon wrapped filet. Service was wonderful.

Terrible Experience at Chef’s Kitchen – Do Not Go I wanted to love our experience at Chef’s Kitchen, but I simply cannot recommend it. We chose it for a family dinner on Sunday, December 28, 2025, because of its amazing reviews and location in Shockoe Slip. We even had a 7:45 PM reservation – the wide-open availability that evening should have been our first clue something was off. Last night was arguably one of our worst dining experiences in Richmond in the past five years. The place was severely understaffed, with apparently only two people running everything: the one and only server (on his very first day) and a man we think was the chef who ended up taking orders and helping with frint of house duties. Despite the reservation, we waited 15 minutes just for a table to be cleaned. Throughout the meal, three other tables remained dirty and piled with dishes the entire time. When our entrees started arriving, the empty appetizer plates were still cluttering our table – they were never cleared. To make room, I ended up bussing the dishes myself to one of those uncleaned tables. Drink service was excruciating: it took 15-20 minutes just to place our order (initial bourbon choices were Jim Beam or Evan Williams until we learned there was Woodford Reserve – we got the literal last drops, resulting in weak, overly sweet Old Fashioneds that were charged double). In total, from ordering to actually receiving the drinks, it took over an hour – we were about to leave when the server/bartender finally brought them. Later, when someone wanted an additional drink, we had to walk up to the bar ourselves to order it. We also ordered a bottle of wine that never came (in retrospect, a blessing given the final bill). The presumed chef came over to take our food order. We explained the long wait and said we couldn’t stay if dinner would take just as long. He promised it wouldn’t, so – buoyed by the great reviews – we stayed, hoping the food would save the night. We were sadly mistaken. The best part of the meal was the appetizers: the calamari was good, and the burrata salad was decent. That’s where the positives ended. • The “house-made” linguine was severely oversalted. • The vodka rigatoni with salmon (may have a slightly different official name) had little to no salmon. • The pork chop was undercooked. For 7 people we ordered 2 apps, 2 salads, one personal-size pizza, 4 entrees, 2 beers, and 5 very weak (but apparently very expensive) cocktails. The total bill with tip was over $350. I almost fell out of my chair. I don’t mind paying for a good experience and good food, but this was atrocious on both counts. No management in sight all evening, no acknowledgment of the problems, and no effort to make it right beyond the server’s sincere apologies. I genuinely felt sorry for him – he tried his best but was clearly undertrained and left alone to handle everything: bartending, serving four tables (including two large parties), and end-of-night cleanup. When we were ready to pay, we waited and waited; eventually I went to the bar myself to ask for the check while he was stocking shelves. All in all, the experience lasted almost 3 hours in a half-empty restaurant with dirty tables everywhere. The new waiter has real potential and I hope he finds a place that staffs properly and serves high-quality food – but Chef’s Kitchen is not it. For this price, Richmond has truly great Italian restaurants like Edo’s Squid, Gersi, Dinamo, La Grotta, or Mama Cucina. We should have trusted our gut and left early. Save your money and time – go elsewhere. 1/5 stars.
Food was mediocre. The single server who showed up for the shift was clearly overwhelmed by our large party (with reservations, so not an unplanned surprise to management), but did their best and were very pleasant. DO NOT USE THE VALET PARKING. I used their valet service in late october for a family function, and in early January got 2 crazy parking tickets from the same date as our reservations with Chefs Kitchen, which was my only stop in Richmond, and the only place i parked my vehicle on that date. When I got my vehicle back, the check engine light was on, and the mileage did not match the drop-off mileage. The only explanation is valet took my vehicle while I was eating dinner and racked up +$200 in parking tickets. And, if you have lived in richmond, you know there is no getting parking tickets waived - why do u think I left?? 😅 Never coming back, cannot recommend, and honestly, im forever done with the dump of a city that is RVA. ✌️
