Gottscheer Hall Ridgewood Reviews
This place has been around for over 100 years. It's very low-key. If you come here enough times, you get to know the regulars. It's very very old school neighborhood vibes. You can come to get your German beer on, watch a sports game on TV, or do both. You do you. Recently Gottscheer has been holding a craft/art fair in the back, which I love. It's run by Tiny Arts, and it's highly recommended. There's other events too, like karaoke.
I was in Ridgewood for a wake and having come directly from work was looking for someplace local to eat. Someone recommended Goettscheer Hall and my first reaction was surprise. This is somewhere I came to as a kid to learn to sing German songs and attend weddings. I'm happy I took the suggestion. The menu is right in my wheelhouse and very reasonably priced. I'm definitely coming back if I'm in the old neighborhood again. I was sad to see that the bumper pool table was gone, the bartender said he's been there 30 years and had only heard of it. :) Good to see that the focus is still on the Goettscheer people and preserving their heritage.
Old school. Big vibes. Nice owners.
Great place. Lots of memories here over 25 years ago.
I voted here. One of the poll workers had 4 Halloween “I voted” stickers but I forgive her. It’s a cute place 🙂
Old school beer hall with a back party room and nostalgic feeling. Very welcoming staff, a neighborhood institution.
This is not the best german food I've ever had..... And it doesn't need to be. This is the food grandma makes, if grandma was a little old german lady. Pretty sure that was grandma who brought out the food :) . It was the most personable german food I've ever had, made with love and care. Delicious in it's own right. Nice german beers as well, which always helps.
One of the nicest places you will find in the neighborhood. It's always a very relaxed atmosphere where you can sit down peacefully and enjoy some good old traditional German food and variety of great beers. One of my favorite places!
I attended a Birthday party there. Food was very good!!! it's old and used, *((if the walls could speak of the good times)). Unpretentious, down to earth, planning my own party there. Love the place!!!!??? The only draw back NO PARKING.
Gottscheer Hall is a fixture of Ridgewood and has been for decades. It does an excellent job at bridging the gap between the old neighborhood and the infusion of the new crowd in a way in which everyone feels welcome. The food is excellent and reasonably priced and their selection of German beer pretty much guarantees something for everyone. The bartenders are also the best in the area, friendly, personable and great to chat with while sipping on a cold one. I've made many memories and friends in that place from all walks of life. I recommend it to everyone. Easy 5 stars. Check it out!
Was here for a handmade market. Old school vibes, this place looks like and feels as if it was around since pre-hipster/gentrification era... because it was here back in the day. Very unique atmosphere, people who work here are really nice - no attitude. Good food in very generous portions - no exaggeration - all at very affordable prices.
Wurst Plate was good. Little old lady (I'm assuming she's the cook) brings it out on her cart. Beer is cold. It a good place to meet friends and bs for a couple of hours. Set your expectations low and you will be surprised. Wouldn't bring your gf or wife to impress her unless she just wants to just chill.
First and last time in 30 years. The worst food ever ate since I came to USA. Food 0 star, service 0 star, (chicken cutlet, or snitzel were made in advance at least 3-4 days, tested as a rubber piece) atmosphere was ok because we were a big gathering, so at least we made the atmosphere to be ok.
Ordered two beers and two pretzels. My party was splitting the tab with cash and card. Handed a $20 and my card to the bartender on a $28 dollar bill who motioned back to me and in returned I motioned him to put the whole $20 on the card. Got my credit card receipt back. Price was still the same. Asked him what happened. He tells me he thought I said the $20 was a tip. What? First of all, who tips before they have paid? Second, who leaves an 80% tip on a bill? Instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, he blamed it on me, walked back to the tip jar and threw the $20 down in front me. Yup. Shady. Check your bills! Won't be returning. Also, the place smells like urine, and nothing inside looks or feels like a beer hall.
