Fable & Fire - A Bookshop Bistro Rockwall Reviews
We dined at Fable and Fire last night for our anniversary, and the experience was exceptional. The staff consistently goes above and beyond to make each visit feel special. The food is outstanding and always beautifully presented. Some of our favorite dishes include the crab cakes, filet, and roasted chicken—though you truly can’t go wrong with any selection. It’s a charming, cozy spot in the heart of downtown and has become our go-to destination for date nights.
We were visiting from Houston and wanted to find a place where we could get good coffee AND good cocktails. We hit the jackpot. Fable & Fire was really cozy with super friendly service, great drinks, and fun music playing. The concept is cool and I wish we had something Ike this close to home. Highly recommend!
Food here was amazing. Nice atmosphere. Our server Ainsley was superb. Fried Pork Chop, Short Ribs Benedict, and Crab Cakes were absolutely delicious! I would definitely be going back again to try other items on the menu
Daughter lives in the area, stopped by for breakfast as part of continued celebration of my daughter’s birthday weekend — great food, great location, and quick service! Perfect spot great atmosphere and service. The Crab Benedict was delicious!
We enjoyed coming and supporting your local restaurant this morning Rockwall, Global, Women’s Empire local women in business coming together to support one another! Great food great conversations can’t wait to see you again. Highly recommend.
I love, love, love this place. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. The decor and atmosphere are lovely. The food is delicious! This is my new favorite place. The crab cakes are really good. So is the tomato basil soup. Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their food.
Love the vibes here so much! Everyone was so friendly, welcoming and it’s moody & cozy. I got an espresso martini & the buttermilk salad with chicken-both were great! We are visiting from out of town and I’ve asked my partner to come back so we can have cocktails before we leave!
We have been here many times for happy hour, we tried some dinner tonight. We were greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant. We sat at the bar and were waited on right away. We ordered the Lamb Meatballs were very tasty. Mackensie was fantastic. She had some great recommendations and was extremely helpful. All the employees were great, so helpful and friendly. We also were able to talk with one of the owners who was very fun to talk with. For our main course ordered the Wild Mushroom Pesto with Chicken which was cooked to perfection and so delicious. My partner ordered the Lamb Shank which was unbelievable. Cook until so tender and full of flavor. The servings are very generous, we had to get to go boxes. We found the restaurant very clean as were the restrooms. The theme of the place is books, the front half of the restaurant is a coffee shop with a bookstore and the restaurant is very casual with lots of books and other memorabilia. This is a fun place to return again and again.
Amazing place with great customer service! We drove all the way from Irving and would definitely come back again! Everyone from the hostess, to our waiter were friendly. The food was delicious. My boyfriend got the short rib Benedict, I got the grilled cheese lobster soup and we shared the lemon ricotta pancakes (amazing). Everything was delicious - the pancakes were so fluffy. The hazelnut caramel latte was so delicious too.
Very cool vibes, with the best matrady in all of Dallas. His name is Eduardo and he IS Fable & Fire, outstanding! The food is delicious...our favorite is the Matt's chicken and the meatballs. Atmosphere is so warm and inviting. They have several round booths, much like the Beverly Hills hotel, which are perfect for date night or family dinner. Rockwall has a gem of a restaurant and our favorite 🤎
This is a very cozy place with a cute atmosphere and great vibes. I tried the crab cakes and they were yummy. The server was nice, though a tad slow ( but it was a busy weekend) and the restaurant was clean. I loved the photos on the walls. I went during a downtown Rockwall event and would definitely go back to try other menu items and drinks at the bar!
I love fable and fire! Everything from the coffee and matcha (specifically the lavender bloom matcha)in the mornings to the fun beverages and delicious dinners at night. Definitely a Rockwall gem
This place is a must visit when I’m in DFW! It’s tucked away in Rockwall, which is such a cute area. Their specialty coffee and pastries are so good. Definitely stay for lunch or dinner- their specials always hit, and I love that the cocktails are inspired by books. So good and such a unique vibe!
Phenomenal experience all together. Every single thing we had was amazing. We ordered two appetizers - calamari and spinach and artichoke dip… 10/10. We had such a hard time deciding on our dinner because there were a lot of good options but we decided on the steak and frites and it did not disappoint! Super tender and very flavorful! What makes an experience for us is the service and I haven’t had service like we did tonight in a long time! Cody was our server and he did an outstanding job. Super knowledgeable about the menu and took his time with us as well as well as very attentive. Ask for him when you visit! You won’t be disappointed.
We were warmly greeted by our host Eduardo and enjoyed great wait service by Delaney. The cozy ambiance alone is worth the trip! All of our food including drinks and coffee was terrific. The Peach BBQ Burger and salmon dip were very good. Margaritas were perfect. Going back!
Cutest restaurant & bookstore in Rockwall! Stop by the front-end coffee shop with yummy pastries, read a book in between or dine in the rear area. The food was delicious & and the service was great. We got a kick out of the secret bookshelf doors that led to the restrooms. We loved it. Can't say enough of this place. We'll be coming back soon.
This is a great little place that we stopped off and had almond croissants and lavender lattes. They have a nice book selection and even some vinyl records. It's a very modern and eclectic design aesthetic inside and it's very comfortable and feels great. I love this little place and I will definitely be back. The Barista was fantastic and this was probably one of the best lavender vanilla lattes I've ever had.
Great food, service, and atmosphere! Parking on a Saturday afternoon was tricky, but I think that's true of almost any trip into downtown Rockwall. Reservations are recommended - it was packed the entire time we were there!
Fun place. Went during the farmers market. Great experience. Ordered the London fog ☕️🫖and it tasted exactly like it should. I love tea as much as coffee. My husband ordered a sugar free vanilla latte and said it was pretty good. I think this is my second favorite coffee/tea place in the area. There is a restaurant in the back, but we haven’t eaten there yet. The atmosphere reminds me of an English Cottage. It transports you to another place and time. It’s large and cozy inside. Top it off with a delicious hot tea (or coffee) I can see why it got great reviews. The bathrooms have sliding book shelves to get in. The hanging lights in the restaurant are really pretty. Reminds me the start of a quest line in a Fantasy novel, 🤣 the name Fable 📖 & Fire 🔥 is most appropriate.
Tried this place for the first time today with my family and it was amazing!! The portions are big and we loved the taste of everything. The muscles and Brussel sprouts specifically were a 10/10!!! When we came it was $4 wine for happy hour, such a steal!! The staff is so kind and made us feel so welcomed. We ended the meal with a german chocolate cake that was so rich and tasty. Definitely recommend this place, great food and environment.
It's not often you walk in to a place and feel at home. Fable & Fire immediately comforts & relaxes you just walking through the door. My husband and I came in for coffee and stayed for brunch! I'm so happy we did. As a first time visitor, the atmosphere of the Saturday brunch with live piano music and quiet sounds of the restaurant, along with the smell of a bookstore, set the perfect stage to transport my soul to a place of comfort, not found in hospitality/restaurants these days. I'll certainly be back, it might even be tomorrow! What a gem in the downtown Rockwall square! Courtney our server was spectacular (on her first day), and I left gleaming at my experience. Beginning to end, coffee (Candied Nut Latte) and food were fantastic. The French toast is just like you remember from home. Crispy yet soft, and flavorful topped with fresh strawberries, walnuts & bananas. The potatoes with my husbands eggs were perfectly crisp and seasoned. The interior design of this restaurant flows so well. Nothing's out of place. It's 100% uniquely quaint. I love the charm I experienced here. I don't know why I haven't come by sooner. I'll be back time and time again. You NEED to visit. Tell Eduardo that Connie sent you! It won't disappoint. I can't wait to go back to my new favorite spot!
The service, atmosphere and food were impeccable. As soon as you walk in, you are warmly greeted. We came to have birthday breakfast for my book loving husband’s birthday and he was given a complimentary dessert of his choice. We had the 2 egg breakfast, chicken biscuit and some lattes - everything was delicious! Even had to get extra lattes to-go! They have a wonderful book collection you can purchase from as well. Fable & Fire is now a fave of ours - looking forward to being usuals!
I have to start this by saying I'm extremely disappointed I've lived near Rockwall for almost 4 years without knowing about this place! A friend recommended it a few months ago when I was looking for places to work so I could get out of my house for a bit. Things took a change when my work situation changed and I've been on a bit of a lull with my writing. My friend and I decided to meet for brunch and she asked me to pick a place. This popped into my brain again, so we figured we'd check it out! This charming place is nestled in the corner of some shops directly across from the old courthouse. From the moment you walk in, it feels cozy and welcoming. The decor is unique and memorable. So fun. We were greeted by Delaney (sorry if I've misspelled it!), who was genuinely friendly and open to helping however she could. I ordered the Lavender Haze latte --- I mean, you had me at lavender! But mixed with the sweetness of strawberries, it was perfection. Delaney didn't balk at my request for decaf (for health reasons) and I was in heaven when my latte arrived. The right choice. 💜 Choosing my breakfast might have been challenging with the various options they had on the menu. But once I spotted crab cake eggs benedict, I was sold. Eggs benedict is one of my favorites, though I usually try to get it with salmon. But with crab? It's like they took two of my favorite things and married them together in deliciousness. It was too good for words. (I'm serious!) Delaney had the balance between checking in too much and visiting us too little down to a science. Every interaction was friendly and lighthearted. I will ask where her station is the next time (give this girl a raise! 😉). We weren't asked to leave when my friend and I were catching up, unlike 30 Brunch House (a place I will not go again), and it was just an overall wonderful experience. I will be back (again and again)!
We went to Fable & Fire for a late lunch/early dinner. The booth was cozy, the food was incredible, the ambiance was beautiful and the service was stellar. Highly recommend.
Our first time here. Melissa was our waitress. She was fantastic. She was very attentive and knowledgeable. We started with soups. We had the tomato bisque and the lobster bisque. For the main my hubby had the flatbread and I had the fish of the day which was mahi mahi. We had specialty coffees and my husband had cheesecake for dessert. The coffees are very hot which I love. Had to let it cool a few minutes. This was a great meal. We will definitely return.
Fable & Fire is an absolute gem!! This is such a cozy spot that is perfect for a romantic dinner or catching up with your besties. I surprised my daughter with dinner at Fable and Fire. She loved it so much! Our server, Courtney, was the absolute best. Everything we tried was well seasoned and at the perfect temperature. If you can, save room for dessert. You won't regret it.
In old Rockwall, very quiet, dark and romantic. Espresso Martini's are excellent. Calamari was well done, as were the Crabcakes. Lobster bisque was nice and hot and flavorful. Our entrees were all perfect. They have a bakery with cakes and pastries. Yumm!
I LOVE the ambiance of this place AND the "oldies" music!! They squeezed me in on a busy Friday night w/no reservations [I was an out of towner who didn't know it would be SO busy!!]--which I appreciated very much. My pasta dish off of a very eclectic menu was FABULOUS!!
My husband and I tried this place last night, and had a great experience. Our server Mia was outstanding, very attentive and took time to answer all of our questions. We don’t eat out often, but when we do, we pray for an outstanding experience like we had last night. This is my favorite new restaurant and we will be back. The atmosphere, the vibe, and the food were all on point. As restaurant owners ourselves, we give kudos to the staff, management, and owners!
I’ve been here for Brunch, Dinner & Drinks, and it’s always a fun and memorable experience!! The service is great, the food is fantastic, and the atmosphere with the books, vinyl records and earth tones is so roomy- which I love!! My only improvement I would add is more comfortable dining chairs. But Fable and Fire is such a highlight of my week when I stop by for food or just a drink! Will be back again very soon!!
We use to go to another breakfast/lunch spot on the opposite side of the square but their service is mid at best. This place is so much better. Great service and food, plus a coffee bar and a REAL bar. Not as many options for gluten free stuff but the service makes it worth it.
We did a wine pairing dinner in the new private area. The atmosphere is fantastic. Service and food was excellent. If you see the pricing below and feel it is high. This was a 5 course meal event with paired wines - so not typical of pricing in the main restaurant.
We used Fable and Fire’s new private event room as the location for our wedding reception and WOW. IT WAS AMAZING! Their private room has all the amazing charm of the main restaurant and then some! They have an in room bar, so we were able to have our own bartender and signature drinks. And of course, the food was amazing as usual! I worked with Laleh, the event lead, to get it all set in motion. She was so stellar to work with and very responsive to my many messages. Her and the staff on site were very accommodating to all our needs day of and made for such a wonderful evening. I wouldn’t have wanted to have our dinner anywhere else. They made it the perfect day!
Fable & Fire has become one of our favorite spots to enjoy a date night. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed, and just the right mix of upscale and comfortable, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the moment. The food is always incredible, the service is attentive, and the overall experience feels special every time we visit. It’s a place where you can slow down, have great conversation, and truly enjoy the evening together. If you’re looking for a great spot for a date night with amazing food, a welcoming atmosphere, and consistently great service, Fable & Fire is definitely a go-to.
My husband and I stopped by Fable & Fire for our date night and we had a wonderful time for our first visit. From the cozy welcoming atmosphere of the cafe at the entrance to the ceiling high shelving filled with books that led us to the dining area, we felt so welcomed by this cozy treasure tucked into the town square. Brooke took great care of us while we worked our way through the menu and her insight helped us curate a wonderful meal. Every thing that came out of the kitchen was made with care and every bite was exceptional. We cannot wait to try more of their flatbreads! (The Queen Margarita lives up to its royal name!) The house Prosecco was a perfect pairing for the Quattro Formaggi pasta we ordered. We cannot wait to visit again and try more dishes from their menu.
Fable & Fire catered and hosted our baby dedication brunch, and they absolutely crushed it! Everything went really well: • The Food: Incredible. Every guest felt very satisfied with the variety of options to choose from. • The Service: Professional and friendly! • The Venue/Atmosphere: Warm, charming, and perfectly set up for our family…even holiday themed, which we really enjoyed! Laleh handled all the stress of hosting so we could just enjoy celebrating our son. She did an excellent job assisting me throughout the entire process. Stop searching—book Fable & Fire now. You won't regret it!
One of the best spots in DFW. Food is exceptional (and reasonable). Tipped our server 35%……she was awesome. Good drinks. VERY COOL vibe. Grits are fantastic. Get reservations! It’s busy.
Fable & Fire has quickly become one of my favorite places to meet with clients. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and professional, making it the perfect spot for both casual conversations and business meetings. The food is always excellent, the service is attentive, and the overall experience is consistently top-notch. It’s one of those places where you can sit, enjoy a great meal, and have meaningful conversations without feeling rushed. If you’re looking for a go-to spot to meet clients, catch up with colleagues, or just enjoy a great meal in a beautiful setting, Fable & Fire is truly one of the best.
Me and my boyfriend came here for the first time this past week and we were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance! I loved the vibe that we got while dining from the low lighting, cozy feeling, and cool decor. My only complaint about the place was the noise from everyone talking and the music was way too loud, I had to shout to talk with my boyfriend. The food itself was very good! I got a pizza with a side of Mac n cheese and my boyfriend got their beef pasta dish. Both were yummy! Drinks from the bar were a bit expensive, but good quality. The part that really made our night perfect was our server Jacob. He was funny and helpful for us to find exactly what we wanted from the menu. Would go again and highly recommend this place for a date night or a birthday dinner.
This is a great fun place to go have coffee or friends and have something to eat I’m in a business and we have some pastries and coffee. It has a really unique vibe and everything that we had was good
Been looking for a place like this 😍 Vinyls, books, food, drinks, and coffee - LOVE IT! If you’re looking for brunch or dinner, this is such a good option. I love the book store/restaurant concept so much, it reminded me of DC! The restaurant is spacious, and they have a bar and patio as well! My family and I went for brunch here on a Sunday. We ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, French toast stack, breakfast sandwich, smoke salmon Benedict, steak and eggs, and the turkey/chicken club. Everything tasted really yummy, and the buildout of the restaurant looks so good. I really enjoyed the bookshelf bathroom doors, amazing! I kind of wish they were a little more heavy on the bookstore side, but beggars can’t be choosers - I’ll take it!! I definitely want to get back and try the pasta! Oh yeah - GET THE BREAKFAST POTATOES!
Service is great our server was friendly and attentive. My coffee was flavorful ordered their lavender latte delicious. From the food menu ordered a burger it was well done and very tasty loveddd my truffle fries.
Loved this place. It had a great wide variety of music playing to set the mood. It’s quaint, dare I say, “best kept secret that everyone should know and visit!” Don’t let the bistro word take away from the upscale dining experience. Plenty of wine, oops they do sell out of certain brands. The menu has so many delicious diversified options. We started with chef’s charcuterie board, lobster bisque, fish of the day was trout with almonds! Reasonably priced and tasty. I do prefer no skin & served hot! Instead of asparagus, I asked for brussel sprouts! It was charred and had bacon! I think the chef likes me, yum! Hey Chris, our waiter of 3 wks, was a bit timid, although, I won him over and he relaxed and was a great asset for our evening date night. THANK YOU Fire & Fable and Chris! See ya next time, soon!!
Great coffee and decent breakfast. I wanted to go to an indie bookstore and stopped by for the first time today. I hadn’t realized the bookstore portion of it would be so small but it’s cute and quaint. The lattes were great and the food was just okay. I thought the sofa was a bit too low to be paired with the bistro table. I got the 2 egg breakfast and didn’t realize it would be put all in an extremely hot skillet. That made it difficult to eat. But the chocolate almond latte was delish and the service was great!
Fable and Fire was nicely decorated giving a cozy vibe. With it being marketed as a book store and cafe, the atmosphere was a bit noisier than expected and music was very loud. Tables were a bit close together making it difficult for staff and guests to maneuver around. We ordered the charcuterie board, crab cakes, burger, and chai tea lattes. The lattes were delicious! Highly recommend. The burger was slightly greasy but edible. The fries and crab cakes were tasty. However, the charcuterie board was not recommended. The fruit was delicious and plentiful taking up half of the board, but the meat and cheese selections weren’t the best, especially given the price. Overall experience was not bad. The staff was friendly and attentive, but the kitchen did seem a bit backed up.
Cinnamon vanilla latte when requested sweet was too sweet. It was remade "3/4" of sweet and my friend enjoyed it Shrimp with grits and Salmon Egg Benedict Grits were too saucy for my friend so he ordered another order of grits. I requested BBQ sauce or syrup for my potatoes. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat my potatoes until after 15 minutes to get one of two of my requests even after trying to get it sooner. At least the potatoes weren't bad cold like fries are. Unfortunately, the second order of grits came out, and they were a bit uncooked like undercooked rice. The workers are courteous and pleasant. I'm sure others have a more pleasant experience
I recently visited Fable and Fire and had a mixed experience. While the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely, several aspects of the service could use improvement. Upon arrival, we had made a reservation over the phone for a Saturday afternoon ensuring we would have a table. The ambiance was inviting, and the decor of the restaurant is truly beautiful, creating a great vibe . However, the service left something to be desired. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed, likely due to managing too many tables at once. It would have been beneficial for the managers to step in and assist staff during busy times, as I've seen in other restaurants where management actively supports their team. One notable issue was with our drink orders. While we paid full price, the drinks were only filled to about three-quarters of the glass, which felt a bit stingy. Given the overall experience, this was disappointing. Additionally, the seating could use some attention. The hard chairs were uncomfortable, which detracted from the overall dining experience. Unfortunately, our group also experienced stomach aches after the meal, which is always a concern. In summary, Fable and Fire has great potential, but some tweaks to service and comfort could elevate the experience significantly. With delicious food and a lovely atmosphere, I hope they can address these issues for a more enjoyable visit in the future.
Fable & Fire has a nice set up, but the sun shining in the window made it difficult to see. The food was really good but inconsistent tastes with each bite of my burger. Some bites were tastier than others. The portions were big. The service was pretty slow even though it was not a busy time of day. The server was nice but definitely slow.
If they would just make a few adjustments to the food, it would be fabulous. First off, my MIL ordered the eggs benedict, which she said were very tasty, but the potatoes were cold and limp. My grilled cheese, with added bacon, was good. Especially paired with their tomato soup. Boss Lady's hamburger was good, but not good enough for back flips. To end the meal, I got a coffee and tiramisu. The coffee was way too strong, so I took it home to make a whole pot. Unfortunately, we ordered what they call a berry crisp. It was just hot soupy berries with raw oats sprinkled on top, with a scoop of vanilla iced cream. Very disappointing! The interior space is great! It's amazing to see what they did from what it was. Our server was awesome.
I arrived around 12:30 on a Wednesday. I waited about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me waiting to be seated. I ordered the crab cake benidect, comes with fried potatoes. My friend ordered a sandwich with French fries. Both of our plates had cold potatoes/French fries. They took both plates to redo the potatoes/French fries. My friend ate hers but I took one bite and didn't bother to eat any further. Was never asked why I only ate my crab cakes or if my potatoes were better. I don't plan to return. I have also received emails from the restaurant and didn't sign up for any type of email.
