Loro S Lamar Blvd Reviews
Excellent food. We had the Chicken Karaage and Lunch Two-step with pulled pork and texas sweet corn. We had added the Seaweed salad. Zero proof cocktails include the Strawberry thai basil margaritas that was great.
Tried Loro after giving it a break for a long time. We remembered it as over priced and small portions. We were pleasantly surprised this time. Highly recommend their Happy Hour. Reasonable price points and generous portions. This evening was a bit on the chilly side and we would have appreciated more heaters in their outdoor space. We were surprised at the ample vegetarian portions.
Loro Asian Smokehouse & Bar is a powerhouse collaboration between two of Austin’s most famous culinary figures: Tyson Cole (the creative force behind Uchi) and Aaron Franklin (the pitmaster of Franklin Barbecue). On a whim, we decided to try this place for a late lunch and we were not disappointed — well other than the fact that the brisket isn’t served until after 4pm we weren’t disappointed. Luckily the food we were able to order was incredible, and worthy of a second visit. I’ll make sure we wait until after 4pm next time! As for the atmosphere, it has a "Texas dancehall" feel with high vaulted ceilings, long communal wooden tables, and a massive, dog-friendly outdoor patio shaded by oak trees. Here’s what we ordered: Brussels Sprouts (pictured) Oak Grilled Edamame (not pictured) Smoked Hot Wings w/Miso Blue Cheese (pictured) Pork Belly (pictured) Sesame Rice Noodles (pictured) Loro Cheeseburger (not pictured) Pork Katsu Sandwich (not pictured) All of the food was amazing and worthy of a second (or third) order. The highlight of the order for me was the cheeseburger. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of it, but believe me when I say that it’s one of the best burgers in Austin. I really do try to shy away from giving out 5 star reviews, but Loro deserves every star. I can’t wait to visit again.
First time visiting this Asia fusion BBQ restaurant, my daughter’s boy friend said this BBQ meal is the best meal in 2025. We had Brussels sprouts, broccoli, salad, potatoes, beef brisket, pork ribs, turkey breast with fresh veggies for wrapping the meat. And Pork belly. All dishes are tasty and meat is smoked sweet flavored. We are enjoying food here Service is fast and waiter / waitress is nice. Place is not noisy and environment is comfortable and good vibes. Marking one of must visit BBQ place in Austin.
I had the lunch 2 step fried chicken sandwich withba half order of crispy cabbage salad - chicken was crisp and spicy with nice pickles. Also at the table was the corn side and pork tostadas. The pork was tender and flavorful and the corn was good too. A bit disappointed that several options are only available after 4pm.
I was traveling to Austin for work. On the way there I was listening to Henry Winkler's autobiography and he mentioned "If you're ever in Austin you have to try Loro's." It was too crazy a coincidence to not go. I absolutely loved it. Had brisket ramen, a killer chicken sandwich, and a fantastic burger. You really can't go wrong with anything here.
Wow, was this place a nice surprise! 👍 I can’t believe I haven’t tried this place before. My cousin lives in Zilker right down the road from the Lamar location. I tried it today mostly due to proximity and boy was I glad I took the plunge. This restaurant is a fusion of 2 of my favorite spots in Austin: - Franklin’s BBQ - Uchi Japanese / sushi They bill themselves as an Asian smokehouse and wow do they have an intriguing menu. My appetite is greatly diminished following my cancer treatments so I am not able to consume anywhere near what I used to, but that just gives me more reason to come back and explore the menu. Today, I had: - OAK GRILLED EDAMAME (GF) lemon zest, white sesame, sriracha powder SEAWEED SALAD sweet cucumbers, ponzu, sesame seeds - LORO CAESAR SALAD with crispy fried chicken breast: smoked caesar dressing, crispy breadcrumbs, parmesan Everything was *on point* and succulent. The edamame was easily the best I have ever had. I shucked the first few beans out by hand for the photo, but the rest was consumed as intended - in the mouth, resulting in seasoning caked fingertips which resulted in frequent cleaning via suckling - the seasoning is so delicious and you can really taste the oak roasted flavor. The seaweed salad was also succulent and the soy sauce and cucumbers really enhanced the flavors. Finally, the Caesar salad was sooo fulfilling and there was liberal usage of the Parmesan and crispy breadcrumbs. The chicken was toasted perfectly. I will definitely be back in March for the MotoGP race @ COTA and likely sample more of the BBQ side. What a pleasant surprise this was - a new addition to the robust Austin food scene. Special shout out to my server / bartender Joe who was very attentive, polite, and professional. He treated me with respect and kindness and it was very appreciated - can’t wait to come back!
Superb! What an excellent restaurant. I had the chicken sandwich and the smoked salmon dip with wontons. The chicken sandwich was so damn good. The chicken was lite and perfectly cooked. The slaw had the right amount of tang. But what really made this sandwich special was the smoked hot sauce. Just the right amount of heat with this hit of smoke that brought it all together. The dip was delicious, just wish there was more. Lots of inside and outside seating. Beautiful decor. And the food came out quickly despite being very busy.
Great dining experience. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating options. Fast, efficient service model. Tasty Asian fusion dishes. Recommended dishes: - Chicken Karaage - more like Korean style fried chicken, but was very tasty. - Arugula & Melon Salad - seemingly strange combination was surprisingly good. - Char Siew Pork Belly - tad sweet but bursting with flavor - Sesame Rice Noodles - was an excellent companion to balance out the strong flavors of the Char Siew
Loro has been a favorite for many years - the frozen espresso is a refreshing, creamy start. Brisket and turkey are my go tos but the salmon with ponzu is light. The charred broccoli is unreal— crisp, smoky, spicy. The fusion of Asian and Texas BBQ is spot on, and if you visit at peak times, enjoy a cocktail while you wait in the yard and be sure to leave with a cookie “for later”…
The creativity behind these dishes are enhanced through their execution. The place has a fun and friendly vibe and they've designed it to handle crowds really well. I sat at the bar and ordered there. Tried their edamame, pork belly and brisket. Phenomenal! Taste, plating, ticket time, everything - it was awesome. They were PACKED and absolutely killing it. I don't think I'll be able to visit Austin again without making this mandatory stop! 👏
Loro is an Austin staple when you are looking for a spin on smoked meats. I love the Asian inspired flavors. My partner and I came hungry, so we over ordered. The seaweed salad came last, and it was too saucy. We also got the shrimp rice bowl which was excellent and the perfect portion. We ended up taking this whole dish to go. The star of the night was the sake smoked half chicken and karrage. The smoked chicken was soooo delicious. It was so moist, perfectly seasoned, and was accompanied by lettuce and herbs to make lettuce wraps. The karrage is a generous portion and really good. The sesame noodles were excellent as well. We left there super happy. The staff is very kind and attentive for being counter service. We went around 6:30pm on a Saturday. We were able to seat ourselves before the host set up kicked in. It was continuously busy all night. It is loud and dark in the inside.
This place was great! We came a little before 4 on a Sunday and it wasnt busy. You order at the bar and they bring the food to your table. They had a cider on tap (Texas Keeper) and had a can (East Austin Cider) option too. The Mexican Martini was a little flat, and didnt really taste like anything. We got the pork belly rice bowl and tofu rice bowl. They were both excellent. The pork belly came with some garlic and spicy fish sauce that was delicious. The coconut rice was lite ans fluffy. The schezuan tofu was absolutely delicious, crunchy and flavorful. Our friends got the ribs which were good, but came with some pickled carrots that were the star of the show!
Loro in South Austin is one of those rare spots that nails both flavor and atmosphere. The Asian smokehouse twist on Texas BBQ keeps every visit exciting. The chicken karaage is a must-order — perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired with just the right punch of seasoning. The brisket sandwich is equally memorable, with melt-in-your-mouth brisket and a balance of smoky, savory, and tangy flavors that make it hard to put down. Service here is all counter-style, and it works beautifully — quick, friendly, and efficient, even during busy stretches. The patio is one of the best in town: spacious, shaded, and perfect for enjoying Austin weather. Whether you’re gathering with friends, hosting a work happy hour, or having a family get-together, Loro has the space and vibe to make it easy. All in all, Loro delivers on every front — great food, great service, and a great setting.
Loro is a great Asian smokehouse with a lot of tasty options to choose from. The meats are flavorful, and there’s a good variety of dishes. It does get pretty busy, though, so be ready for a longer wait than you might expect. We ordered the pork belly, and it was delicious. Just keep in mind that the meat comes without sides, so you’ll want to order some extras. We tried the sesame rice noodles, and they were really good. The Loro Cheeseburger was another standout—the patty was huge and packed with flavor. Definitely worth a visit!
Vibe & Service Loro has a very specific energy, it’s loud, dark, and consistently crowded. The system here is a bit different: you wait in line at the bar to place your order, and then the food is brought to your table surprisingly quickly. The Experience I had a bit of a mishap during my visit. I stepped inside for a moment to grab an iced tea, and a busboy cleared my plate before I was finished. I told the cashier inside and they were just like "oh okay" I probably could have asked for a refund if I wanted to make a fuss,, the silver lining was that it gave me an excuse to order a few more things to try and take some to-go. Pro Tip for Solos If you are dining alone, I’d suggest staying inside and sit at the bar. The busboys are too fast. If you’re sitting outside by yourself and step away for even a second, there’s a good chance your food will be "stolen" by the staff thinking you're done.
The food at the Loro Asian Smokehouse is a bit close to fusion. There are outdoor and indoor seating. Indoor is much impressive and contemporary. Outdoor might be suffering from some flies bugging around. Service was prompt and staff are friendly. Parking was the difficult part of my visit.
Beautiful restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating and heaters. Happy hour is wonderfully priced, but the bartenders need some work. I was told that one of the drinks was sold out, and then I noticed that some customers after us were able to get the drinks. Also, when asked about slushy recommendations to go with the twice pony special, the bartender was unable to recommend anything. They were cordial, but definitely felt like they didn’t really care. It could be that they were swamped by happy hour folks too. With the actual food and service workers, the appetizers were absolutely delicious, and the food delivery workers were prompt. They were the ones to actually provide some recommendations! The edamame was delightfully citrusy, with the sriracha adding flavour instead of spice. The rice bowl had tons of pickles which added some great brightness! Also, queso is a must try at happy hour!
I keep trying to love this place and it keeps coming up short. I get the concept, and I like the space, but I find the food is always just short of greatness. Maybe it's the price, or the portion size. Maybe it's a bizarre mix of flavors that while technically "fusion" don't necessarily fuse. I leave this spot to the hip new Austinites who seem to love it so much
Loro was and is a great place. There was a HUGE line at Terry Black’s so we decided to go here. It was not a mistake there was a 10 minute wait but that was great for a F1 weekend. We ordered Queso with brisket, Baby back ribs (delicious), pork belly rice bowl, oak smoked salmon rice bowl, and oak smoke beef brisket. I ordered pork belly rice bowl. It was delicious but it had WAY too many herbs and completely overtook everything else. Baby back ribs were the best I’ve ever had. Sorry for only one photo forgot to take em’ Texas accent kicking in.🤣. The photo is the salmon.
Loro has a great vibe — the space itself is beautiful, welcoming, and definitely one of the highlights of the experience. It’s a place you want to like as soon as you walk in. The service was okay, nothing bad but nothing particularly memorable either. The food was pretty good overall, but it felt like it was missing something to really make it stand out. Everything was fine, just not quite as impressive as I expected given the hype. The ordering process is also a bit odd. It’s a seat-yourself setup, but you still have to go to the bar to place your order. The bartender wasn’t especially friendly, and it felt awkward being prompted to tip after placing my own order and getting my own drink. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere and had a decent experience, but a few tweaks to service, food execution, and the ordering process would go a long way toward making this a place I’d be excited to return
