Manolo Salou Reviews
Went here for a spot of lunch. We had been many years before and remembered it was good and we weren't disappointed. We had Paella (chicken/seafood) for 3, spaghetti carbonara for our 5 year old and chicken escalope for our 8 year old. We all loved what we had. To top it off we enjoyed some nice cold beer and a pitcher of Sangria which my wife very much felt later that afternoon! We would definitely return if in the area.
Amazing service, and we had such a fantastic waiter too. Super attentive, warm and friendly. Loved every minute of our meal here - I had the mixed grilled fish and seafood, other party had the mixed grill and both came with generous portions of food and were super fresh. Definitely would recommend and planning on visiting again. (Hopefully with room for dessert next time!)
I did not have any high hopes before arriving here, this is more due to the fact that my experience in eating out in Torrevieja area has not been great, but i have to say that this restaurant exeeded the expectations. the food was good, massive portions and good pricing. i saw some bad reviews but thats on the paella which we did not have. i dont think generally Paella is a tasty dish at all, so i dont go for it. highly recomended place from me
A restaurant experience is based both on food and service, and while the food was good, our waiter was, unfortunately, either unexperienced, or too experienced, aka "you're in my living room and I'll do as I please... When you place your order, nothing complicated; cañas, tinto de verano and soda, and he walks away holding his head as if preventing it to explode it gives a rather bad impression. Yes, we were all rather large group (20+), but we all speak Spanish, and are not at all difficult. Dinner was served out of order; while some were eating their main course some were still waiting for their starters. And some got their main course 2 minutes after getting their starters. We'll give it another try though, but perhaps as a smaller group...
We're there Saturday early evening before the Spanish normally go to dinner. The service was unfriendly or at best they did there job without a smile or friendly manner. We asked two times for an bootle cooler but took it then by ourselves after waiting 10 minutes. I ordered grilled chicken. What I got looked like a Run over chicken. A flat mass of 15x10 cm with all what you could probably find in an chicken. And a small breast peace at the side (that is what I expect when ordering grilled chicken, but a bit bigger). Maybe that is the normal way of grilled chicken in Spain. For me it was not what I was looking for. And the cherry on top was, that the restrooms where closed because there was a problem with the water supply. Sure, that could happen, but then as restaurant I have to inform my guest about that issue. We were simply told, 300m down the streets would be a gas station with an restroom. In sum, the restaurant visit was not my best experience in Spain.
This is an addition to the original review. This time the food was very good, the Menu Del dia is now 12€ which is very reasonable. ( Added some pictures) The issue this time was a matter of principle and poor service 😔. We ordered the menu del dia, we were served a small salad between us which I am sure was meant for 1 person. We asked for vino tinto for both of us, the sever gave us half a glass 🍷 each then took the bottle away. Why should we be treated differently to all the Spanish people around us, in every case the bottle was left on the table, we don't want to drink the whole bottle but I do like a second glass, I asked for a second glass and was charged 2.80€ ( see picture of bill). The second complaint is about the service, no smile not a feeling of being welcome, we were asked if we would like a coffee, no offer of a dessert, I asked for a dessert the server said that he didn't speak English, I asked politely for cheese cake which he understood, and the cheese cake was excellent. I look forward to the comments of the owner, I live in Spain and love Spain I am not a tourist therefore if it's good I would return again. We have visited this restaurant several times over the last 3 years. This time we were very disappointed, The Menu del dia is €11.50 , on the left of the menu there are daily options, on the right are options which are available everyday. The wine comes with the meal, a large glass, bread, aliol and salad to start, we had fish soup and a plate of mixed meat. This was all Ok. We chose for the mains, pork scalup and garlic chicken. The pork was dry and bit tough, the chicken was not edible it had been so over cooked just solid lumps. The desert was Ok. We should have complained, but we decided to leave and never go back again. The question is why serve something that is obviously not to their standards. !!!!
Okay. So first thing to say is that the flavour here is not bad. We had pulpo de gallega, calamari, seafood grill, paella mixta and a dessert. On everything the flavour was decent. And the seafood grill I would say was good. But it was nothing special and there were a couple of aspects of the service which mean the rating should go down. It took ages to get a table the first time we went. Fine it was busy. No big deal. The second time we ordered the paella well in advance and had proof of this but they had not recorded the ask which was disappointing. Then, there was a fly on the pulpo (pics as evidence). Without these flaws I’d give this place a 3 star as an average place for food in Spain. No need to avoid the place but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here either.
We visited this restaurant with high expectations, and while the appetizers were quite good and well-prepared, the main course was a big letdown. We ordered two types of paella – the black squid ink paella and the chicken & seafood paella – and unfortunately, both were completely lacking in flavor. It was as if no seasoning had been used at all. Very disappointing for a dish that should be rich and full of taste. On top of that, the service was frustratingly slow. It took a long time just to place our order or ask for anything, as only one server was assigned to our table. Other staff members seemed unwilling to help even when it was clear we needed assistance. The whole experience felt disorganized and inattentive. Overall, we left unsatisfied. Good starters alone can’t make up for bland food and poor service.
