Matteucci's San Anselmo Reviews
Matteucci’s is not a bar. It's a time machine powered by booze, regret, and the last dying gasps of American civility. You don’t enter Matteucci’s — you cross over. The door creaks open and suddenly you’re not in whatever sterile, algorithmic city is rotting outside — you’re in a wood-paneled hallucination where the jukebox might still be whispering Sinatra, and the ghosts of old mobsters eye you from the corners. The place hums low and steady, like a diesel engine. Leather booths so worn they're practically sentient. A bar that’s seen more deals, disasters, and declarations of love than any court of law. It smells of Campari, vermouth, and the faint tang of existential despair — an intoxicating blend if you know what you’re looking for. The bartenders are mercenaries of the old school — no irony, no flair, no “craft cocktail” pretensions. Just good, solid service. A Negroni that tastes like it was mixed by a disillusioned Venetian priest. A martini that hits the bloodstream like a silent riot. They slide the drinks across the bar with the quiet efficiency of men who have seen too much and expect worse. The crowd is a beautiful cross-section of the doom: aging hipsters still clinging to the last shreds of style, retired wise guys muttering into their scotch, lovers plotting bad decisions. And all the while Matteucci’s stands, not caring, not pandering — just existing. Solid. Unflinching. Indifferent to the trends outside like an old bull elephant ignoring the rain. Matteucci’s isn’t trying to be anything. It just is — a rare and beautiful thing in a world of try-hards and plastic smiles. Go. Order something stiff. Sit down. Shut up. And feel something real for a change.
Great old school bar. Clean lit pool tables. Great backyard with views for warm days.

Great place and bartender. Best bar around the area. Very fun inside. We did not get food
Went to Matteucci’s on a Saturday night for a wedding after party and had a great time. There’s a hidden seating area in the back that’s perfect if you want to have a quiet hang and music in the bar if you feel like dancing a little. The pool tables are in great condition and a lot of fun. And they let us order in pizza because they don’t serve food (except for snacks like chips that you can buy at the bar). But best of all was the bartender. She made the whole experience really enjoyable. Great people. Great time.
Atmosphere is 100000/10. Loved the outdoor area! Great vibes.
Great staff, fun dive bar. Awesome location with good parking. The decor is really fun, with an old school Elvis/Italian American theme. The drinks are good, there's a really fun karaoke/comedy show on Thursday nights. Definitely worth exploring!
Matteucci's is a legendary Marin institution and one of the last of it's kind. This is an old-fashioned neighborhood bar with long-time regulars, good drink prices, impeccable service and relaxed atmosphere. Matteucci's harken's back to a near lost time when we all went to local bars afterwork where "everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came". I come as often as I can, usually with friends to kick back, have a good drink, talk and laugh. I love it, I'm sure you will too. (Matteucci's doesn't server food. I gave it 4 stars because they allow and encourage deliver food service!! Awsome!)
My favorite bar in Marin tbh. Super low-key and great prices. I spent hours there with friends and spent under a $100. There's good seating out back and up top out back. Always been a staple for me.
Love this place! Great atmosphere with some really cool pics of old bands and legends like the rat pack, 2 patios, 1 in the back, and 1 next to parking lot, 2 pool tables, and the bartenders are knowledgeable with drinks. I believe they serve hotdogs (not sure) but you are welcome to bring food and eat it there.
Has 2 pool tables $1 rounds, cheap drinks, and a great outdoor area with very cool decorations
Only ever been here on a Thursday, which is when karaoke happens. The host of which is very good, from her boisterous personality to her fantastic outfits.
Good ole local dive that's been in business for eons. Couple pool tables. Sitting at the bar and hobnobbing with the regulars is just too fun. The bartender Féargal is so cool. And interesting. And a psychic!

The indoor space looks like a sports bar with two pool tables that’s FREE to play. The outdoor space is beautiful with plenty of rooms to sit! Highly recommend for a chilled place to with friends or drinks! Self serve service. Don’t think they have food? Not sure.

A fun, laid-back dive bar with a really great karaoke night on Thursdays. Bartenders are fast and kind on the pour. It's cash only and their in-house ATM charges $2.50 so be sure to bring bills!
A classic little watering hole with character. I've always found good folks there and never a long wait for a pool table. Nice location.

Mattuci’s has a really bad reputation. It’s known as the kind of bar where people have to be careful — there have been situations where drinks were messed with, girls were taken advantage of, and any guys who seem like competition get kicked out. It’s not a safe or trustworthy place, and people should really know what goes on there. ESPECIALLY ON THURSDAYS
As a woman, I no longer feel safe going here. I was disgusted in the staffs response to an intoxicated male patron who was threatening me and my friends. The bartender continued to serve him drinks and another asked us to leave.
I have never once left a bad review. This one, however, deserves to be mentioned. I walked into this bar with my service dog and my friend, excited to try one of the only bars around that actually serves alcohol. I was immediately told that "pets are not allowed." I explained that it was a service animal, not a pet, and I showed my dog's identification to the bartender and the random man confronting me. As I went to take a seat, another man, apparently the owner, said something which I at first didn't hear (I have a hearing disability-hence, the service animal ). When asked to repeat, he said, "Seriously, you can't be in here. Get out." I again explained that my dog was a service animal. He said, "I don't care, get out." I explained that what he was doing was illegal, and a violation of the ADA. I shared with him that I have a hearing disability (information I am not required to share). His response was "you can hear me now, can't you? Get out." I decided to leave, rather than give my money to such a despicable and disgusting person. I have never been treated differently because of my disability until this experience. I am reporting his business to the ADA, the BBB, and the Attorney General. I sincerely request that you avoid this establishment, and take your money elsewhere. Millions of people in this country worked hard for disabled individuals to have a few basic rights pertaining to their needs. This man thinks he is above the law and above common decency, and his decision to humiliate and disrespect a customer should not be ignored.
Really awful, it was really like some homeless guys drug den. Didnt like the atmosphere felt very uncomfortable, Andre the bar tender grabbed my legs, and asked me some very personal questions I didnt like its so awful dont go.
I came accross this spontaneous little bar, Decided to grab a drink before I got home from work to see my kids, and the bar tender Andre was so rude, it was a little shocking I didnt know what I had done and felt uneasy wont go here again so sorry I came. So shameful
