Thai Lao Orchid San Antonio Reviews
The som tam Loas is outstanding — truly dare-spicy when they say it’s spicy. The fried rice and noodles are far above average. We walked to this place near the convention center and had an amazing meal. No reservation needed.
Really enjoyed my meal and experience here! I’m a Thai food novice, but my chicken pad Thai was very good. Just the right amount of spice, sauce, noodles, everything. The young man who waited on me was polite and kept my sweet tea full. Will definitely come back the next time I’m in town.
We were a little hesitant to visit this place but were craving badly for Thai food; we weren’t disappointed at all. Every order was absolutely amazing and tasty. The server was very friendly to us and also helped in deciding our orders and adjusting it according to our preferences. The spice level was just perfect and the taste was overall very good.
Came here for a late lunch at 2 PM on a Tuesday. We ordered the appetizer combo with fresh spring rolls, Thai crispy egg rolls and pot stickers. For our entree, we ordered the stir fry with chicken and vegetables, and the Tom Mee with beef. Everything was hot and perfect to the taste! This is a must go to place.
Service is always fast and food is fresh and vibrant with spice. Panang curry is a definite go-to. Pad Thai is some of the best I’ve had in town. Not just a Chinese restaurant trying to serve Thai food, but legit Thai cuisine. Lunch prices are reasonable for downtown fare, and the short wait time makes up for any premium. Big fan of the many options for delivery.
This was my second time eating here as I’m not in San Antonio very often. Its still as good as I remember. The menu isn’t extravagant but doesn’t need to be. What they have is delicious. I was visiting for lunch on a Friday and got in a few minutes after they opened. When I sat down, the waiter welcomed me, asked for a drink order and brought me a cup of egg drop (?) soup. It was light and tasty. I ordered the pad thai with tofu at medium heat (should have ordered spicy or very spicy but you never know a place’s version unless you try it). Portion was just right and good for the price. Staff is friendly and quick. The space is clean. Its also an easy walk from the hotels in the downtown/riverwalk area.
First, check your receipt!! They overcharged me. Combo rice was 12.95 plus spring rolls 6.95. With tax should've been $21.54. We were charged $23.71, so an extra $2.17. I have no problem tipping but I do have a problem with being overcharged. Food was good. You can only order take out. The lady that helped us was not very friendly.
Ordered my pork pad Thai with everything on the side so I could mix it in to my preference. I asked for it to be spicy and it was not spicy at all. The noodles were very mushy and the plate was kind of too sweet for my taste. I really was disappointed in my plate. The food is pricey since you are downtown. Over 20 dollars for this and a sweet tea. I will most likely not be going back. This was my second time coming back after a few years with the same type of experience.
Food tasted good but the service wasn’t. At first the lady who works in the restaurant told us to move to a smaller table as we were only 2 people even though we already told her that we are expecting someone else to join us. And then she repeatedly kept saying that “as you can see people are walking in and you are accommodating a bigger table you have to move”. It was really annoying. Second it took 40 minutes to get the food. The place was really hot and was filled with smoke and food aroma. When I walked in it felt like a combustion chamber 😉 but after a while I just got used to it. But at the end the food tasted good and is cheap as well so I will definitely be going back.
This was really disappointing. The food was mid and the customer service was absolutely awful, rude and inattentive. Not worth the money. Won’t be back.
I went in this place looking for an outlet, to waiting for my uber and potentially order. While I was charging my phone I was immediately laughed and disrespected by the older man (potentially the owner). He told me to sit in a different spot so I did. The older lady looked me up and down and asked me what I was doing, I explained what I was doing. She proceeds to ask me “Have you ordered” twice. I told her “Would you like me to order?, I can order.” because I wasn’t given the opportunity to order at all. And in a very disrespectful tone she told me to get out. So I did, because unlike them I kept it respectful. There is a reason why this place has 3.9 stars.
Really disappointing visit. Atmosphere felt unwelcoming and the interaction with staff left a bad impression. Nothing about the experience made me want to stay, let alone come back. There are plenty of other places nearby that offer a much better overall experience.
