Walking into Tempe House was like visiting your friend's house full of Aunties who are all trying to feed you. The regulars were laughing and kicking back with the owners, watching TV in their own honest comfort. The woman serving food was so friendly, and when I told her it was my first time having Indonesian food, every customer chimed in with their favorite dish that I should try. She ended up giving me a couple free samples and a side just so I could try what she liked. The food itself was delicious. I had sweet braised beef, tempe and tofu, kale curry, and the turmeric rice. They garnish the rice with crispy onions and piled on the portions! By the time I was full I hadn't even finished half my plate. All for a price cheaper than most other counter service spots I can think of. I'm definitely coming back to explore the menu! Can't recommend enough!

Loved this quick Indo food. The portions are huge. Food tastes great. The beef rendang and kale dish are so good. The service was nice and friendly. I would come back. The prices good too. There’s another indo restaurant in Colton that some like better but this portion and taste was really good for me. Although not a lot of seating inside seems like more a take out place. Good veggie options Will come back.

Always trying to find my wife some authentic good Indonesian food. The Tempe House Spicy Food delivered that and then some. We now have a new place to go when we visit Redlands.

Amazing little mom and pop Indo restaurant, rare gem in San Bernardino! The food is very authentic and delicious and the price is also very good, they stuff so much food in the container, each combo is at least 2 full meals. Definitely try the fried tempeh and tofu, always fresh and crisp

Indonesians must come here! Bought a $9 combo with 2 entrees and a big portion of rice. The food was delicious and well priced in my opinion. Their tempe is delicious and you could also buy the fresh/frozen tempe. Recommended!

A hole-in-the-wall experience (in the best way possible!) They also have an AMAZING vegan beef dish made with jack fruit. The taste is spot on—savory, sweet, and salty...perfect umami! The restaurant lady was super helpful and nice, and she gave us generous servings when we bought food to-go from the a la carte food line! There were several customers speaking Indonesian with the restaurant lady, and The whole place has a homie vibe to it. Highly recommend!

The food here is so cheap and so delicious! Plus they give you huge portions. 3 types of rice to choose from (regular, coconut or turmeric). A two item combo cost $7.30 and it was enough food for my lunch and my dinner. I got my family and coworkers to try the tempeh and they all said it was so good even though they were skeptical. I highly recommend everyone tries this place at least once!

This place is a real deal. The most authentic Indonesian restaurant I’ve ever had in SoCal. Everything is absolutely delicious. Too bad it’s really far from my place. The tempe orek is bomb!

Woah... Their food really good. Ordered some Gado2, spicy version, brought it to mom's 👩 place... Peanut 🥜 sauce onto the mound of food and started eating... Wooosh! That sucker's really spicy. That's when I realized I've been far too long Living in TO watered down Jack Spicy chicken is typical "spicy" version... Indo spicy ain't no joke. Delicious as heck, just took me about an hours worth to finish the salad 🥗 in one sitting, glad mom 👩 amused with me! - Nasi yellow Goreng, dang good - That yellow looking chicken curry 🍛 thingy, super fantastic over steamed "White" rice - Black chicken stuff, not too shabby. - The fried tofu, crunchy, ahh... superb! - The best part is the Chips, interesting taste, it's like the Indo version of Pringles, once it crunches in my mouth, cannot stop munching! Keep it up... any thoughts of opening another maybe closer the beach side.

Oh mannn, was this good! I’m writing this on Nov. 5th, 202, the day I first had Indonesian food and I was EXTREMELY impressed. Every time I go to a new spot I always ask the person helping me to choose their favorites to help me decide… The staff (and another ultra nice customer) helped me. I got the Rendang (left) and I forgot the other side. 🤦🏽‍♂️ But damn, was this so good. I am definitely going to be coming back and telling others of this place. If I wasn’t so full I’d try everything they have to offer!

Don’t judge the book by its covers. This eatery might look like a rundown but its the best tasting indonesian food I had in USA. Its like your own mom cooking for you. Whenever I visit in san bernardino, I religiously eat here almost every day. Your staple indonesian cuisine - tempeh, tofu, gado gado, siomay and cold refreshments like es campur. Price wise - unbeatable. Rice and 1 viand for 6 usd, 2 viands 7 usd , 3 viands 8-9 usd. The 1 viand portion is good for 2 persons even.

This place has my favorite Indonesian vegan options. I am Indonesian and it is hard to find vegan Indonesian options since most Indonesians cook with trasi or fermented shrimps. This place is owned and run by a Seventh Day Adventist who doesn’t eat shellfish. Thus lots of their dishes are vegan!!! The taste is pretty authentic and spicy. Thus the name of the place is Tempeh House Spicy Food! Tempeh is Indonesian origin. I grew up eating tempeh and love tempeh before becoming a vegan and before tempeh is popular among vegans. My favorite vegan dishes from here are kale curry, Spicy Tempeh Stir Fry, Sayur Lodeh, Sambal Goreng Tempeh, Nasi Kuning, Ketoprak, Steamed Spiced Tofu in Banana Leaves, Fried Tempeh, Fried, Tofu, Es Cendol, emping, garlic krupuk, and tofu in soy sauce. Many! The dishes mostly served on a steam table. Ask which dishes are vegetarians with no eggs or vegans. The only thing is the place is not fancy. It is kind of a hole in the wall kind of place. It sits on a funky small strip mall in an industrial area by the airport. I don’t mind eating in this kind of establishment but I don’t bring certain friends here. Ha ha. I usually come with my brother and my husband, just families. However the price is realiy good and the portion is HUGE! The taste is yummmmy. Thus I keep coming back although it takes an hour to get there. That says it all!!!

Looks can be deceiving indeed. This small unassuming place has delicious delicious delicious food! I've never liked tempe until I tasted theirs. I especially love the spicy fried tempe, kale in coconut milk and OMG the potatoes are amazing! Dont know how they make it but simply amazing. Every single person I've taken to here has become loyal customers. Crazy good. Beef renadang was a little sweet but still quite good.

This is Indonesian home cooking, like going to grandma's if your grandma was Indonesian! Everything's so mouth-wateringly delicious. Large number of vegan dishes. Big portions, good prices. The no atmosphere IS the atmosphere!

Tempe house spicy food is a small mom and pop joint. It is located in a very small shopping center. It specializes in Indonesian food/cuisine. Staff/employees are friendly. They let you try a small sample so you know what you want. Everything is made with love. The prices are very reasonable. Potion size is very generous. Everything we've had has been delicious. Don't let the pics fool you. Everything has great flavor. If you haven't been, you should definitely stop by. The spicy chicken, coconut rice, turmeric rice, ,beef stew, greens, and fried Tempe are some of our favorites.

Nice little Indonesian place here in San Bernardino with a mostly Indonesian customer base so you know they’re an important part of the community. I got the Rendang with Turmeric Rice and Kale Curry, and it was great. There’s a few vegetarian options with tempeh and tofu and is to-go style although you can of course dine in. I haven’t had much Indonesian food and when asked about the spiciness level of a dish, I was even given a small sample, so that was nice!

Great Indonesian food. This place is worth the visit. Food reasonable price. I ate my lunch at the shop and serveral order to go plate for my family. Serves beef rendang, indo fried chicken and vegan options. Vegan dishes include yellow curry with potato, kale, spicy tofu/tempeh stew and fried tofu. Bad.. Place could use a good floor mopping. Table need a wipe down. Store located in sketchy neighborhood.

Great and delicious Indonesian food! I ordered the Mie Ayam. Yum 😋. It consisted of yellow egg noodles with chicken and mushrooms. They also throw in a small meatball soup. At $10.00 plus tax, its a little higher than what i normally pay for lunch but still very good food. Go get some!
