Eureka! San Diego Reviews
Eureka! is next to San Diego State University (SDSU) very near the transit station so it's convenient to everybody. The restaurant is fun to visit during the week and especially on the weekend during football season since they have many screens above the bar and elsewhere which carry all the NFL games. The crowd is young and upscale and so is the menu which has all your usual favourites plus several dishes which are unique and enjoyable interpretations of classic menu selections all ofvwhich can be found on the menu supplied above. The facilities are clean and modern plus the staff is energetic and willing to fulfill all your desires each visit. It's a must during your visit to this part of town especially if you're looking for a more luxurious meal which isn't typical of this area usually.
Came for drinks after a concert. Was late but servers were friendly and drinks and apps were great. Have been to other locations and none disappoint, highly recommend.
Great place, been to other Eureka! restaurants before and this one is just as good with a casual vibe in the SDSU area. Not a restaurant issue but being close to SDSU and the MTS drop, there isn't much parking unless you're lucky to get a street spot or you're willing to go into the pay lot that's right around the corner. We ended up using the pay lot and it was only five dollars.
Since this place is on meal plan, whenever I have some extra money to spend at the end of the week, I'll always get a burger to go. Can't comment on service much but everybody is always nice. I got the jalapeño burger and the spicy fried chicken sandwich to go. Both were super tasty and I would absolutely get either again.
Went on a Saturday afternoon. Got outdoor seating and the crowd was chill. I like they have non alcoholic cocktails and a beer option. Staff was friendly. Only got the ahi poke stack and it was really good. Surprisingly nice presentation too. Would definitely go back and try the other food options.
Finding parking in this area sucked, but the food was good. Took a few minutes extra to get a soda refill, but they were pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon. The Double Smash burger was really good. Great selection of beers, too. Not sure why the TV with NFL Network on eas froze up and said BOOTLEG across the bottom, but i am sure there is a reasonable explanation.
This place is great! I love that it's half in-, half out-door, so depending on your mood and weather, you can choose whether to be in the elements or not. The bar is set up in such a way that the bartenders would be serving both indoor and outdoor bar patrons. The cocktails and the whisky selection are amazing here. You can't go wrong with their libations. They also have really good ROTATING local beer selection (hello, stouts! Not many places stock up on stouts, let alone the good ones). I had the crispy brussels sprouts this time and they really delighted my palate. They were crispy, slightly charred and lightly coated with some kind of sweet, citrus-y sauce. I could eat a mountain of these on my own. One thing I don't like about this place and this is no fault of the restaurant is the parking. It's near SDSU, which means no street/free parking around; your only choice is to park at the parking structure. And you only get 1 hour with validation. Uhhh.. it's not easy to enjoy your drinks when you only got an hour! I want my second drink!
Had an early dinner hear before heading to a concert at SDSU. My son LOVED the mac & cheese balls and our burgers were delicious!! (Bone marrow and fig burger). However, the fries were not good at all. They were fresh cut but soggy as heck. I've never had such soggy fries in my life. I also had an old fashioned, but the manager refused to put it on happy hour (we ordered 20 minutes before it started but stayed well into it). Oh well. Our waitress was friendly but didn't check on us often... Our cups Sat empty way too much.
The good: the food is delicious, salmon kale salad is extremely good and so is the bison burger. The bad: the music is kinda loud and it's hard to hear the person that your sitting with. The ugly: the bathrooms are disgusting, I feel like they must be short staffed because it takes for ever to get your order in and get your food.
Beautiful Bar and Restaurant indoor and outdoor seating. Food looked and taste delicious. Water is served in cute bottles, disappointed that it was warm and taste like faucet water. Had to ask my server for ice as it was warm. Other than that great little place. Watermelon hibiscus agua Caliente was my favorite. Like bitting into a Watermelon with tajin. Charcoal lemonade was ok
This spot is good for college students. The food itself is pretty mediocre—trying to be fancy, but not quite there. I gave it four stars for the atmosphere because the space has a really nice vibe, though the menu doesn’t quite match the ambience. Since it’s in a college area, students will probably think it’s fancier than it really is, and there are some affordable options too.
I have never been anywhere that made us stand for 24 minutes with no acknowledgment. BTW first people in line outside. Costumer service is the worst! Second time we came after the Aztec Basketball game and stood in line with absolutely no “Hello” or “I’ll be right with you”.
OMG, I really like Eureka and I've been to other locations BUT here I ordered the salmon plate....the salmon was overcooked, potatoes were hard, sent back to kitchen. I guess the kitchen didn't like that bc when I ordered burgers instead, it's like they dumped tons of salt in the two burger plates. Ugh. Terrible experience 😪
I ordered the the fish and chips. I sub out the chips for onion rings. Both were were bad, all I could taste was the oil, could not finish my meal. My dinner company, ordered a burger will done. He took one bite , it was almost raw. Sent it back, had to wait 20 minutes for it to come out.
I waited tables through college so I’m pretty understanding with issues but this was above and beyond bad. Too many problems to list them all but half of us were finished eating before our last meal was brought out. Wine was warm and hamburger room temperature. One drink never arrived and when asked 15 minutes later he simply replied “we’re out of that” They brought out three incorrect meals before bring us the correct ones. Waiter never once apologized. We expected better.
Couldn’t have gone in at a slower time but it kind of made sense because they had the laziest crew on. There wasn’t anyone at the host stand so I approached the bar where a group of workers stood at the other end, just staring and chitchatting with each other. Finally, one of them told the bartender and she walked over to me, asked me how she could help me and I told her I was there to pick up my order and responded saying someone would help me at the host stand to which I responded, there’s nobody there and then she said they’d come out. I can’t quite explain it but the girls who did come to the host stand gave the vibe that they didn’t want to be bothered with working. Like babe pls quit?! Long review made short, their customer service is trash and due to it, it’s probably not worth eating here anymore.
Customer service HORRIBLE! I ordered food for pick up and came when it was ready and paid. The workers said they couldn’t find my order. Then proceeded to ignore me for an hour leaving me standing. Then finally I confronted one of them then they neglected me again. Then finally they told me they still can’t find my order 1.5 hours later. Then had to remake it. And didn’t even offer me any compensation. Well actually they said I could get a free drink then didn’t even give me the drink. I’m actually distraught.
The service at this place is so incredibly slow. There has been countless times I have been seated but not greeted for over 30 minutes. I placed to go orders all the time and it’s always packaged either incorrectly, missing food, or takes longer than given time. I am extremely disappointed because I actually do enjoy the food. But as a college student on the go, I hate how slow this place is.
Let me start by saying that we are big fans of Eureka. We have been to multiple locations without issue and have always had a positive experience, except this location. This particular restaurant is just awful. We have been there twice, and both times were a disaster. Granted that each time was in advance of a concert at the SDSU amphitheater, that’s still no excuse for the level of service (actually lack of) that we experienced. Both visits had the same thing in common, total chaos, not enough wait staff or ability to support how busy it was, LONG wait times for any attention at all, 30-60 minutes before a server even acknowledged our presence. Our latest visit, just this weekend, even worse. We had a reservation a month on advance, which they had no record of when we arrived, we waited for an hour for a table, we sat at the table for 30 minutes before a server came, the restaurant was completely sold out of wine, and it was another 30 minutes before they brought our drinks. We were late to the concert, and this is with an original reservation that was over 2 hours before the start time of the concert. Not rocket science for the restaurant management to plan for nights when there is a concert/event…Definitely do not recommend this restaurant on a day when there is an event, strongly avoid.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We waited well over an hour and a half and never even got to order our food. The place was either severely understaffed or the servers just didn’t care to do their jobs. Nobody came to check on us, no one explained the delay, and it honestly felt like we were invisible. If they can’t handle customers, they need to hire more competent people or train the ones they have. We eventually gave up and left hungry and frustrated. Absolutely unacceptable service, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
