Osteria Cotto E Mangiato San Diego Reviews
We tried this restaurant out for happy hour on a Wednesday afternoon at 3 PM. We had made reservations through OpenTable and when we arrived, we were asked if we wanted to sit indoors or outdoors. We chose a table indoors and had a very nice first time experience. We all had the red sangria which was delicious and we watched the bartender make it in front of us. Dry, which is what we like not sweet with a good serving of fruit in it. We had the meatballs, flatbread, and the calamari. Our server came back to tell us that the fryer was just turned on and it would be about 10 minutes, which was fine with us. When the calamari arrived, it was delicious. One note for the restaurant chef is that the calamari could be a little bit more tender. We also discovered that Wednesday nights are 40% off wine night so we ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, which was delicious and we ordered a second order of the meatballs. Furthermore, we also decided to order lemoncello cake. Which was quite delicious. All in all definitely returning for happy hour and most likely for dinner. Service was stellar. We also met the manager who was explaining to us about some of the ideas they have coming up.
What a delightful place. It’s located a bit up the hill from downtown SD on a nice quiet corner. Service was spot on perfect. Food is terrific with a nice, reasonable wine selection. I had the lasagne bolognese and it was as good as any I have ever had. Appetizer was fried calamari and it was good but maybe not the absolute best I’ve ever eaten. They need to work on how they cook that one. The cannoli for dessert was excellent as was the espresso. The interior itself is very nicely appointed, quiet and pleasant. Great place for a nice romantic date and there were a number of well dressed couples in the place doing exactly that. Next time I’m in town with my wife I will be sure to do the same. The patio looks great as well.
Amazing family owned Italian restaurant with great dishes. The homemade pasta was amazing. It is a small place. It feels like you are eating dinner with friends. Our server Sergio was excellent! We will definitely be back.
Authentic Italian Gem Near the San Diego Symphony! We had an incredible dinner at Osteria Cotto e Mangiato on Friday, October 17th, and it truly felt like we’d flown to Italy for the evening. We selected this restaurant for its proximity to the San Diego Symphony, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we called to move our reservation from 5:30 to 6:30, the staff was so kind and accommodating. We arrived at 6:15 and mentioned our show started at 7:30, and they made sure our meal was beautifully served by 6:30 — we finished right on time. We enjoyed the Frittura Mista (crispy calamari, shrimp, lemon, mustard aioli, and marinara), the Fettuccine Alfredo e Pollo (perfectly creamy Alfredo with roasted organic chicken), and a flatbread topped with prosciutto and assorted meats that was absolutely delicious. The service was warm and genuine, the ambiance relaxed yet elegant, and the flavors truly authentic. A big thank you to Andrea Provino and the team for such a memorable experience. We can’t wait to come back!
We really enjoyed our evening here. Basia was our server and she was attentive and friendly. The menu was creative and we loved our dishes. The presentation was gorgeous and portion sizes just right. We also liked the intimate atmosphere.
I loved this place. I happened upon it after a matinee at the Jacobs Symphony Hall. Little did I know they have a daily happy hour, so I was within that time (ends at 5pm). I ordered spaghetti, my favorite go to meal and how I rate all Italian restaurants, and this did not disappoint! The best spaghetti I've had in a long time. I love how it was served, in a pan. My friend and I also shared a Caesar salad and some garlic bread. Wine was happy hour price too! Our sever, Antonio, was very nice and accommodating. The restaurant was busy, but we were served in a reasonable time. I didn't order the cheese wheel, but it sure looked good. Next time 🙂 It was a special night and I will be back!!
This place has amazing food! Whenever we're in town we will eat here. The waitress was so sweet and attentive. We really enjoyed everything about our experience.
I came here a year ago. So good I came back and brought my family too. I personally am very picky when it comes to Italian food, it is really really good. Honestly the best I've had in the states. The sauce is authentic, amazing flavors. Kids loved it too and something on the menu for all of us. Wine menu is always great and they have listed what pairs with food to perfection. Do not pass up on trying the sausage or the meatballs. Relaxing and calm environment. Dog friendly as well even a menu for your fur baby. I didnt get before photos(excited to eat)
Had an amazing experience here while visiting San Diego! I don’t typically love going out for Italian food or pasta because I like making it at home, but because we were traveling and it was right across the street from our hotel, we decided to try. I am so happy we did because the Cacio e Pepe was some of the best pasta I have ever had. Creamy, flavorful, and great portion sizes. We also had the garlic bread and I would highly recommend, it was delicious. Aside from the outstanding food, our server, Isa, was lovely. She was attentive and friendly, we had a great conversation with her while getting our bill. Our table was seated outside and nice and comfortable. When we come back to San Diego, we will definitely be back!
What an amazing experience! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the service was outstanding. We tried several appetizers, but I’d love to highlight the Sicilian Caponata and the Veggie Lovers Bruschetta—both were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. For the main course, we had the Seared Sicilian Ahi Tuna, which was perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned. Every bite was a delight! To finish off the meal, we enjoyed two incredible desserts: the Limoncello Cake and the Tiramisu Della Nonna. Both were rich, flavorful, and the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. Another great touch was their selection of non-alcoholic wine, which is a wonderful option for those who want to enjoy the experience without alcohol. I highly recommend this place and can’t wait to come back!
10/10, the owner was very attentive throughout the whole experience. Shared some history about the location, how his project became a reality. Food was incredibly DELICIOUS!!!, and got a personal tour of the restaurant at the end. Highly recommended, let’s support great businesses like this. Keep the great work A, thank you for making me feel like family! 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
I stopped by here because I was staying at a nearby hotel. The food was delicious I got the sicilian caponata as an appetizer and it was delicious, bread warm and soft yet cruncy, caponata perfect mix of tomatoes, capers and olives...I didn't take a picture! I ordered the penne vodka and it was perfect. It reminded me of my fave at Carbones in Vegas. The service was amazing, Francesco was so kind, was happy and personable. He made me feel like if I lived in San Diego, this would be the regular place. I felt so welcomed, and he gave me a card for a bruscetta on a future visit. Of course I had to get the Tiramisu for desert. It was a generous portion, with creamy marscapone balanced with the sweet bitterness of the espressoed ladyfingers. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a decent selection of mocktails with non-alcoholic wines available even! I'll be back next time I'm in town. With my bruscetta card!
Had a delicious dinner here and the hospitality and service was great. The house salad was fresh and we had spaghetti with meat balls and sausage as well as pasta bolognese. The pastas are all homemade and were excellent, and the sauce was really delicious. They had a great Italian beer as well as wine. It was an excellent dinner.
We had a great time at Osteria Cotto e Mangiato. The pasta was seriously good, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. You can tell they care about the ingredients and keep things simple in the best way. Diego took amazing care of us all night. He was friendly, attentive without hovering, and gave great recommendations. He made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. Between the delicious pasta and Diego’s service, it was an easy five stars. We’ll definitely be back.
Really nice Italian dining experience. The pastas were delicious and authentic. Highly recommend the lobster pasta, especially if you visit on a Monday when it’s half-price. The lobster is baked and served in the shell, locking in its fresh, sweet seafood flavor. Super delicious. I liked the music there, too.
We had an incredible dining experience at this Italian gem. The food was outstanding and full of flavor. The cheese wheel truffle fettuccine was a standout. Rich and aromatic, yet light and cooked to absolute perfection. The linguine vongole was equally impressive, with fresh seafood that was flavorful, and beautifully executed. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the service. Felix, was exceptional. He was very warm, welcoming, always smiled and was unbelievably attentive despite being the only server for the night. He struck the perfect balance of being present without hovering, and his recommendations were spot on. Felix made us feel welcome and well taken care of from start to finish. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for amazing Italian cuisine with service to match. Looking forward to our next dinner there!
love the calm and cozy vibe of this restaurant. sat outside for dinner - there are string lights and heaters outside so it was perfect! food is absolutely delicious! also a wide variety of drink options. i brought my parents here last time they visited and they loved it!
I had the fortunate experience to try a sample of pasta from this place at a Yelp event and I knew I had to go! My friend was in town and on his last night he wanted Italian so I said we should try this place! I am so glad we did! We came in on a Thursday night around 5pm. Parking was great and there was no wait more was it crowded. We were seated quickly and the server was so kind. He recommended the Prosciutto Bruschetta as an appetizer which so good. The bread was toasted and still sour soft and the burrata was so fresh. I had not eaten all day and it was such a nice first dish! For entres we ordered the Rigatoni Carbonara and the Penne Vodka with chicken. The Rigatoni Carbonara was probably the best I have ever had. It was so creamy and so so good! The pancetta had such great flavor as well and cooked perfectly. The Penne Vodka was a perfect tomato creamy balance with such a delicious sauce! And the pasta in both these dishes was home made and cooked so perfectly! I was in heaven! If we weren't in a time crunch I would have ordered or tried other dishes. I cannot wait to come back!
Cozy place with great food. We tried the lasagna Bolognese and it was delicious. The service is friendly and efficient. The tiramisu for dessert was also a good surprise with a unique presentation.

What an amazing experience! I discovered this fabulous Italian restaurant through TikTok, and it truly did not disappoint. I was looking for a fabulous place to celebrate my 25th, and Osteria Cotto e Mangiato came highly recommended. The restaurant was also a 4 minute walk from our hotel which worked out even better! The environment is so cute and cozy, and the outdoor seating is lovely. Issa was amazing and so sweet, greeting us warmly and being very attentive. The prices are well worth the portion size you receive, and everything tastes AMAZING! You really can’t go wrong. The tortellini and pear bruschetta was a highlight for me, and you definitely have to check out their dessert!

We LOVED everything about this place. The food, atmosphere, and Felix our server! We were not disappointed in the quality of everything we ordered. The music list was so much fun as well. We went on a Wednesday evening and were seated right away. The food is authentic and you can tell they care about the quality! We will definitely return, as frequent visitors of San Diego!
We ordered the prosciutto bruschetta 10/10. Shrimp ravioli 7/10 pretty shrimp forward but good and the tortellini emiliani was great 10/10. The desert was the best part we got a canoli and lemoncello cake both 10/10. Keep in mind the place is expensive especially considering the portions.
