Park & Rec San Diego Reviews
I went to the Poetry Brothel DEVOTION Valentines Soiree. I LOVED IT !!
Excellent staff and service, reasonable cocktail prices for the neighborhood, and good vibes.
I hadn't been to Park & Rec in several years so I was excited for this happy hour. (I spent a lot of time in this location before it was P&R back when it was Bourbon Street.) It was a pretty perfect day for a low key happy hour. When I walked up and went to the bar. I found a seat and ordered a P&R Oldie and chair danced to everything the DJ was spinning. I loved every song so did John, the bartender who was serving my end of the bar. He was awesome! Extremely charismatic and attentive without hovering. Knew who was next immediately and didn’t miss a single empty glass. I was joined by an acquaintance I hadn’t seen in a while. We gabbed and ordered more cocktails. My favourite cocktail was the Dos Ojos. It was so refreshing and was like a palate cleanser. Thank you , P&R!
Venue is cool, music is hit or miss, Hoppe is the best bartender, he makes the best drinks!!
This place is hoppin'. Big crowds on weekends. Space is tight but lots of fun. 20s-30s high energy crowd. Staff is awesome. Only downside is the almost total absence of parking in the area. That is a city planning issue of course so no dings on the stars. Take an Uber or walk a block or two. Worth it.
What a cool spot! Came here for a DJ night which was awesome. Not too too packed on a Thursday night but enough people to get a good vibe and enjoy the night. Full bar with some specials for the night. Great interior and DJs were super!! Would definitely come back for another girls night out or just to chill and enjoy the night
A few months ago, Park and Rec started hosting an event for songwriters on Monday nights called Writer’s Round. It’s an intimate space in the bar’s “greenhouse.” It’s an open mic styled event that features local songwriters, with two rounds of random performers taking turns sharing their music and the songwriting process. Artists like Lee Coulter, Rachel de Koekkoek, Evan Diamond, Joshua Taylor, Lauren Leigh, Jeff Berkeley, Lisa Sanders, and Aaron Bowen. Such an organic spot to catch the songwriting community.
There is always a huge line (that moves fairly fast) on weekends... This place is a trip. It's built like a house party, with a very eccentric layout. In the back is a pretty large dance hall. Seems to attract good people too. Bartenders are competent and keep the lines rolling. Go for a Great time... Located in the heart of the city, very close to Adam's ave, in University heights
This place is incredible...Alex and Sonnie are such wonderful mixologist and truly are talented at their craft. I have full trust in letting Alex create whatever comes to her mind and she never fails to make something amazing. When you can visit again...go...and then go again and again and again...isssssss goooood!!!!
Park & Rec is a great bar with a great atmosphere, great drinks, and great service. University Lights is probably one of my favorite drinks that I've ever had and I don't see myself ordering something else here. All of the bartenders are very nice but I especially like the guy (his name escapes me) who always wears the Mariners hat/Seahawks stuff, even though I'm a Rams fan. Always make sure to bring people here when they want to go out in San Diego.
I can't believe I just discovered this place. We were dining at Madison for dinner next door and decided to come here for a drink afterwards. We went in around 10:00 p.m. so it was just starting to get busy, which is my preferred crowd size anyways. I love that they have multiple bars and a sense of different spaces. When you walk in you enter the first space that has a bar and its own set of music if you continue to walk towards the back you enter an outdoor space that has another bar into the right a dance floor with a DJ and a bar there as well! The multiple bars really spread out the line so you didn't have to wait forever for a drink. And wow, drinks are so affordable! I ordered two drinks, wanted tequila soda and one a Mezcal Paloma and it was $22 in total! I really love this spot it has something for everybody, if you want to just chill and talk and their outdoor space or in their front bar, or head to the dance floor in the back.
I visited Park & rec for the very first time for an event and had an amazing experience! We were in the back it was open, it felt perfect! The music wasn’t too loud and they had a lot of heaters. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we always had what we needed. The drink menu was extensive, offering a variety of unique cocktails that were both delicious and beautifully presented. I especially loved the lemon drop, which had a perfect balance of flavors. The bar also had cozy seating areas, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy the evening with friends. I can't wait to go back!
Parking here sucks. Meters until 6pm but if you go around the corner on Adams, it’s free. We came right when they opened so it was early enough to find free parking. This place serves drinks and has music at night. Nice cocktail lounge. They don’t serve food but you’re allowed to bring in your own food. Johnston’s next door has awesome sliders. Drinks at Park & Rec are delicious and they make awesome mocktails. I got cruel summer, picture of you and pink Cadillac. Cruel summer was on the sweet side with pineapple nice, picture of you tasted like cough syrup and pink Cadillac was like a spicy margarita with the Tajin on the rim. Atmosphere is chill with the multiple outdoor area. Nice vibe, plenty of seating.
I stopped by Saturday night and its Great atmosphere after 9pm once music starts playing if your into hip-hop. Two totally different crowds before 9pm and after 9pm. Drinks aren't consistent at all. Had three old fashion and all three were completely different and not that great. They also love to use ice haha so it does water down your drink quickly. I would go back to listen the music after 9pm and have the tacos that gets there around 930pm(I dont believe taco stand is connected to park and rec but I may be wrong) but wouldn't expect GREAT drinks but OK drinks.
I’m not one to leave reviews ever but I don’t know what happened to this place but in 2024 I used to love it, this was my go to spot. Now the vibes are TERRIBLE and DJ is horrible, im not sure if they changed them but they always play the same 3 songs for hickies and dry humps now. For gasolina night they don’t even play reggaeton, it’s a bunch of random pop music and a Spanish song every once in a while. The lines are CRAZY long bc they have a whole separate line where you have to pay $20 to get in and they prioritize that one. The security is always letting their buddies cut the lines too. This past Saturday I waited almost 3 hours in total to get in to the actual club and the dance floor bc of this. Not only that the securities are SO RUDE, especially the one with the glasses that’s inside by the dance floor. I’m not a fan of downtown but at this point I would 1000x rather go there. Really sad about what happened to this place. Not the vibe anymore.
I had a very disappointing experience at Park Ray. I observed young security staff smoking on duty and checking people which made the environment feel unprofessional and unsafe. I also saw situations where welding was allowed while customers were waiting in line, which raised safety concerns for me. Additionally, the way customers are treated seems inconsistent. At times it felt like people were being treated differently without clear reasons. The overall experience did not feel fair or organized. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves security professionalism and customer treatme
Omg I been here like 7 times my bartender, she's been excellent. Tonight was like a nightmare, this tall Mustache Mexican security or bar cleaning guy , cleared our table while we were In the restroom, when we came back to our table he took everything even my reading glasses, he walked me out threatening me police was going to arrest me if I didn't leave, he had complet power over me and management, even though she was very nice, I will never come here again and please repost this.
As they were closing, I was slammed to the ground by staff while asking for my jacket to be returned. To be fair, the staff member didn’t know I’ve been dealing with a herniated disc. Will be pursuing legal action for the injury.
